A moving frame formulation of non-stretching geometric curve flows in Euclidean space is used to derive a 1+1 dimensional hierarchy of integrable SO(3)-invariant vector models containing the Heisenberg ferromagnetic spin model as well as a model given by a spin-vector version of the mKdV equation. These models describe a geometric realization of the NLS hierarchy of soliton equations whose bi-Hamiltonian structure is shown to be encoded in the Frenet equations of the moving frame. This derivation yields an explicit bi-Hamiltonian structure, recursion operator, and constants of motion for each model in the hierarchy. A generalization of these results to geometric surface flows is presented, where the surfaces are non-stretching in one direction while stretching in all transverse directions. Through the Frenet equations of a moving frame, such surface flows are shown to encode a hierarchy of 2+1 dimensional integrable SO(3)-invariant vector models, along with their bi-Hamiltonian structure, recursion operator, and constants of motion, describing a geometric realization of 2+1 dimensional bi-Hamiltonian NLS and mKdV soliton equations. Based on the well-known equivalence between the Heisenberg model and the Schrodinger map equation in 1+1 dimensions, a geometrical formulation of these hierarchies of 1+1 and 2+1 vector models is given in terms of dynamical maps into the 2-sphere. In particular, this formulation yields a new integrable generalization of the Schrodinger map equation in 2+1 dimensions as well as a mKdV analog of this map equation corresponding to the mKdV spin model in 1+1 and 2+1 dimensions.
We study the negative flows of the hierarchy of the integrable Heisenberg Ferromagnet model and their soliton solutions. The first negative flow is related to the so-called short pulse equation. We provide a framework which generates Lax pairs for the other members of the hierarchy. The Inverse scattering, based on the dressing method is illustrated with the derivation of the one-soliton solution.
We present in this report 1+1 dimensional nonlinear partial differential equation integrable through inverse scattering transform. The integrable system under consideration is a pseudo-Hermitian reduction of a matrix generalization of classical 1+1 dimensional Heisenberg ferromagnet equation. We derive recursion operators and describe the integrable hierarchy related to that matrix equation.
A generalized inhomogeneous higher-order nonlinear Schrodinger (GIHNLS) equation for the Heisenberg ferromagnetic spin chain system in (1+1)-dimensions under zero boundary condition at infinity is taken into account. The spectral analysis is first performed to generate a related matrix Riemann-Hilbert problem on the real axis. Then, through solving the resulting matrix Riemann-Hilbert problem by taking the jump matrix to be the identity matrix, the general bright multi-soliton solutions to the GIHNLS equation are attained. Furthermore, the one- and two-soliton solutions are written out and ana…
Type-I quantum impurities are investigated in the context of the integrable Heisenberg model. This type of defects is associated to the (q)-harmonic oscillator algebra. The transmission matrices associated to this particular type of defects are computed via the Bethe ansatz methodology for the XXX model, as well as for the critical and non-critical XXZ spin chain. In the attractive regime of the critical XXZ spin chain the transmission amplitudes for the breathers are also identified.
We present a general method of folding an integrable spin chain, defined on a line, to obtain an integrable open spin chain, defined on a half-line. We illustrate our method through two fundamental models with sl(2) Lie algebra symmetry: the Heisenberg XXX and the Inozemtsev hyperbolic spin chains. We obtain new long-range boundary Hamiltonians and demonstrate that they exhibit Yangian symmetries, thus ensuring integrability of the models we obtain. The method presented provides a "bottom-up" approach for constructing integrable boundaries and can be applied to any spin chain model.
We have undertaken an algorithmic search for new integrable semi-discretizations of physically relevant nonlinear partial differential equations. The search is performed by using a compatibility condition for the discrete Lax operators and symbolic computations. We have discovered a new integrable system of coupled nonlinear Schrodinger equations which combines elements of the Ablowitz-Ladik lattice and the triangular-lattice ribbon studied by Vakhnenko. We show that the continuum limit of the new integrable system is given by uncoupled complex modified Korteweg-de Vries equations and uncouple…
The non-holonomic deformations of non-local integrable systems belonging to the Nonlinear Schrodinger family are studied using the Bi-Hamiltonian formalism as well as the Lax pair method. The non-local equations are first obtained by symmetry reductions of the variables in the corresponding local systems. The bi-Hamiltonian structures of these equations are explicitly derived. The bi-Hamiltonian structures are used to obtain the non-holonomic deformation following the Kupershmidt ansatz. Further, the same deformation is studied using the Lax pair approach and several properties of the deformat…
This paper is a continuation of our previous work in which we studied a dispersionless limits of some integrable spin systems (magnetic equations). Now, we shall present dispersionless limits of some integrable generalized Heisenberg ferromagnet equations.
An integrable generalization of the NLS equation is presented, in which the dynamical complex variable $u(t,x)$ is replaced by a pair of dynamical complex variables $(u_1(t,x),u_2(t,x))$, and $i$ is replaced by a Pauli matrix $J$. Integrability is retained by the addition of a nonlocal term in the resulting 2-component system. A further integrable generalization is obtained which involves a dynamical scalar variable and an additional nonlocal term. For each system, a Lax pair and a bi-Hamiltonian formulation are derived from a zero-curvature framework that is based on symmetric Lie algebras an…
Integrable Heisenberg ferromagnetic equations are an important subclass of integrable systems. The M-XCIX equation is one of a generalizations of the Heisenberg ferromagnetic equation and are integrable. In this paper, the Darboux transformation of the M-XCIX equation is constructed. Using the DT, a 1-soliton solution of the M-XCIX equation is presented.
We propose a general integrable lattice system involving some free parameters, which contains known integrable lattice systems such as the Ablowitz-Ladik discretization of the nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation as special cases. With a suitable choice of the parameters, it provides a new integrable space-discretization of the derivative NLS equation known as the Chen-Lee-Liu equation. Analogously to the continuous case, the space-discrete Chen-Lee-Liu system possesses a Lax pair and admits a complex conjugation reduction between the two dependent variables. Thus, we obtain a proper space-dis…
This paper is concerned with the construction of the fifth-order generalized Heisenberg supermagnetic models. We also investigate the integrable structure and properties of the supersymmetric systems. We establish their gauge equivalent equations with the gauge transformation for two quadratic constraints, i.e., the super fifth-order nonlinear Schrödinger equation and the fermionic fifth-order nonlinear Schrödinger equation, respectively.
Generation of higher-dimensional isospectral-nonisospectral integrable hierarchies associated with a new class of higher-dimensional column-vector loop algebras
In this paper, we explore the integrable fractional derivative nonlinear Schrödinger (fDNLS) equation by using the inverse scattering transform. Firstly, we start from the recursion operator and obtain a formal fDNLS equation. Then the inverse scattering problem is formulated and solved through the matrix Riemann-Hilbert problem. Subsequently, we give the explicit form of the fDNLS equation according to the properties of squared eigenfunctions, such as squared eigenfunctions are the eigenfunctions of the recursion operator of the integrable equations. The reflectionless potential with a simple…
Integrable discretisations for a class of coupled (super) nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) type of equations are presented. The class corresponds to a Lax operator with entries in a Grassmann algebra. Elementary Darboux transformations are constructed. As a result, Grassmann generalisations of the Toda lattice and the NLS dressing chain are obtained. The compatibility (Bianchi commutativity) of these Darboux transformations leads to integrable Grassmann generalisations of the difference Toda and NLS equations. The resulting systems will have discrete Lax representations provided by the set of two c…
Addition of higher nonlinear terms to the well known integrable nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equations, keeping the same linear dispersion (LD) usually makes the system nonintegrable. We present a systematic method through a novel Eckhaus-Kundu hierarchy, which can generate higher nonlinearities in the NLS and derivative NLS equations preserving their integrability. Moreover, similar nonlinear integrable extensions can be made again in a hierarchical way for each of the equations in the known integrable NLS and derivative NLS hierarchies with higher order LD, without changing their LD.
In this paper we consider integrable dispersive chains associated with the so called Energy Dependent Schrodinger operator. In a general case multi component reductions of these dispersive chains are new integrable systems, which are characterised by two arbitrary natural numbers. Also we show that integrable three dimensional linearly degenerate quasilinear equations of a second order possess infinitely many differential constraints. Corresponding dispersive reductions are integrable systems associated with the Energy Dependent Schrodinger operator.
In the present paper, we study the integrable 2-layer generalized Heisenberg ferromagnet equation (HFE). The relation between this generalized HFE and differential geometry of curves is established. Using this relation we found the geometrical equivalent counterpart of the 2-layer spin system which is the 2-component KdV equation. Finally, the gauge equivalence between these equations is established.
A systematic approach to Liouville integrable defects is proposed, based on an underlying Poisson algebraic structure. The non-linear Schrodinger model in the presence of a single particle-like defect is investigated through this algebraic approach. Local integrals of motions are constructed as well as the time components of the corresponding Lax pairs. Continuity conditions imposed upon the time components of the Lax pair to all orders give rise to sewing conditions, which turn out to be compatible with the hierarchy of charges in involution. Coincidence of our results with the continuum limi…
The general multi-soliton solution of the integrable coupled nonlinear Schrodinger equation (NLS) of Manakov type is investigated by using Zakharov-Shabat (ZS) scheme. We get the bright and dark multi-soliton solution using inverse scattering method of ZS scheme. Elastic and inelastic collision of N-solitons solution of the equation are also discussed.
Integrable fractional equations such as the fractional Korteweg-deVries and nonlinear Schrödinger equations are key to the intersection of nonlinear dynamics and fractional calculus. In this manuscript, the first discrete/differential difference equation of this type is found, the fractional integrable discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equation. This equation is linearized; special soliton solutions are found whose peak velocities exhibit more complicated behavior than other previously obtained fractional integrable equations. This equation is compared with the closely related fractional averaged…
We consider some nonlinear models describing interactions of long and short (LS) waves. Such LS models have been derived and proposed with various motivations, which mainly come from fluid and plasma physics. In this paper, we study some of integrable LS models, namely, the Yajima-Oikawa equation, the Newell equation, the Ma equation, the Geng-Li equation and etc. In particular, the gauge equivalent counterparts of these integrable LS models (equations) are found. In fact, these gauge equivalents of the LS equations are integrable generalized Heisenberg ferromagnet equations (HFE) with self-co…
We implement the dressing method for a novel integrable generalization of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. As an application, explicit formulas for the $N$-soliton solutions are derived. As a by-product of the analysis, we find a simplification of the formulas for the $N$-solitons of the derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation given by Huang and Chen.
The Lax pair for a derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation proposed by Chen-Lee-Liu is generalized into matrix form. This gives new types of integrable coupled derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equations. By virtue of a gauge transformation, a new multi-component extension of a derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation proposed by Kaup-Newell is also obtained.
The equivalence of the discrete isotropic Heisenberg magnet (IHM) model and the discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) given by Ablowitz and Ladik is shown. This is used to derive the equivalence of their discretization with the one by Izergin and Korepin. Moreover a doubly discrete IHM is presented that is equivalent to Ablowitz' and Ladiks doubly discrete NLSE.
Two types of integrable coupled nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equations are derived by using Zakharov-Shabat (ZS) dressing method. The Lax pairs for the coupled NLS equations are also investigated using the ZS dressing method. These give new types of the integrable coupled NLS equations with certain additional terms. Then, the exact solutions of the new types are obtained. We find that the solution of these new types do not always produce a soliton solution even they are the kind of the integrable NLS equations.
In our recent paper we described relationships between integrable systems inspired by the AGT conjecture. On the gauge theory side an integrable spin chain naturally emerges while on the conformal field theory side one obtains some special reduced Gaudin model. Two types of integrable systems were shown to be related by the spectral duality. In this paper we extend the spectral duality to the case of higher spin chains. It is proved that the N-site GL(k) Heisenberg chain is dual to the special reduced k+2-points gl(N) Gaudin model. Moreover, we construct an explicit Poisson map between the mod…
The local and non-local vector Non-linear Schrodinger Equation (NLSE) with a general cubic non-linearity are considered in presence of a linear term characterized, in general, by a non-hermitian matrix which under certain condition incorporates balanced loss and gain and a linear coupling between the complex fields of the governing non-linear equations. It is shown that the systems posses a Lax pair and an infinite number of conserved quantities and hence integrable. Apart from the particular form of the local and non-local reductions, the systems are integrable when the matrix representing th…
The integrable vector nonlinear Schrodinger (vector NLS) equation is investigated by using Zakharov-Shabat (ZS) scheme. We get a Lax pair formulation of the vector NLS model. Multi-soliton solution of the equation is also derived by using inverse scattering method of ZS scheme. We also find that there is an elastic and inelastic collision of the bright and dark multi-solitons of the system.
A discrete version of the inverse scattering method proposed by Ablowitz and Ladik is generalized to study an integrable full-discretization (discrete time and discrete space) of the coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations. The generalization enables one to solve the initial-value problem. Soliton solutions and conserved quantities of the full-discrete system are constructed.
In this paper, we investigate a general integrable nonlocal coupled nonlinear schrödinger (NLS) system with the the parity-time (PT) symmetry, which contains not only the nonlocal self-phase modulation and the nonlocal cross-phase modulation, but also the nonlocal four-wave mixing terms. This nonlocal coupled NLS system is a nonlocal version of a coupled NLS system. The general Nth Darboux transformation for the nonlocal coupled NLS equation is constructed. By using the Darboux transformation, its soliton solutions are obtained.
We analyze initial-boundary value problems for an integrable generalization of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation formulated on the half-line. In particular, we investigate the so-called linearizable boundary conditions, which in this case are of Robin type. Furthermore, we use a particular solution to verify explicitly all the steps needed for the solution of a well-posed problem.
We present new integrable models of interacting spin-1/2 chains, which can be interpreted as hard rod deformations of the XXZ Heisenberg chains. The models support multiple particle types: dynamical hard rods of length $\ell$ and particles with lengths $\ell'<\ell$ that are immobile except for the interaction with the hard rods. We encounter a remarkable phenomenon in these interacting models: exact spectral degeneracies across different deformations and volumes. The algebraic integrability of these systems is also treated using a recently developed formalism for medium range integrable spin c…
The soliton solution of the integrable coupled nonlinear Schrodinger equation (NLS) of Manakov type is investigated by using Zakharov-Shabat (ZS) scheme. We get the bright N-solitons solution by solving the integrable uncoupled NLS of Manakov type. We also find that there is an elastic collision of the bright N-solitons.
An integrable generalization of the continuous classical O$(2,1)$ pseudospin Heisenberg model to the case of the ospu$(1,1/1)$ superalgebra is constructed. The gauge equivalence of the constructed model and the related NLSE is established. We indicate a method of generating classical solutions using the global ospu$(1,1/1)$ supersymmetry. The relationship between solutions of O$(2,1)$ HM and 'superpartners' of NLSE is obtained.
A new integrable discrete system is constructed and studied, based on the algebraization of the difference operator. The model is named the discrete generalized nonlinear Schrodinger (GNLS) equation for which can be reduced to classical discrete nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equation. To show the complete integrability of the discrete GNLS equation, the recursion operator, symmetries and conservation quantities are obtained. Furthermore, all of reductions for the discrete GNLS equation are given and the discrete NLS equation is obtained by one of the reductions. At the same time, the recursion o…
In this paper, we provide the geometric formulation to the two-component Camassa-Holm equation (2-mCHE). We also study the relation between the 2-mCHE and the M-CV equation. We have shown that these equations arise from the invariant space curve flows in three-dimensional Euclidean geometry. Using this approach we have established the geometrical equivalence between the 2-mCHE and the M-CV equation. The gauge equivalence between these equations is also considered.
The outlook of a simple method to generate localized (soliton-like) potentials of time-dependent Schrodinger type equations is given. The conditions are discussed for the potentials to be real and nonsingular. For the derivative Schrodinger equation also is discussed its relation to the Ishimori-II model. Some pecular soliton solutions of nonlinear Schrodinger type equations are given and discussed.
In the present paper, we study the Myrzakulov-XIII (M-XIII) equation geometrically. From the geometric point of view, we establish a link of the M-XIII equation with the motion of space curves in the 3-dimensional space $R^{3}$. We also show that the complex coupled dispersionless (CCD) equation can be derived from the geometrical formalism such that their curve flows are formulated. Finally, the gauge equivalence between the M-XIII equation and the CCD equation is established.
In the paper we continue to consider symmetries related to the Ablowitz-Ladik hierarchy. We derive symmetries for the integrable discrete nonlinear Schrödinger hierarchy and discrete AKNS hierarchy. The integrable discrete nonlinear Schrödinger hierarchy are in scalar form and its two sets of symmetries are shown to form a Lie algebra. We also present discrete AKNS isospectral flows, non-isospectral flows and their recursion operator. In continuous limit these flows go to the continuous AKNS flows and the recursion operator goes to the square of the AKNS recursion operartor. These discrete AKN…
We study a deformation of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation recently derived in the context of deformation of hierarchies of integrable systems. This systematic method also led to known integrable equations such as the Camassa-Holm equation. Although this new equation has not been shown to be completely integrable, its solitary wave solutions exhibit typical soliton behaviour, including near elastic collisions. We will first focus on standing wave solutions, which can be smooth or peaked, then, with the help of numerical simulations, we will study solitary waves, their interactions and finall…
In this paper, we show that the nonlocal discrete focusing nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) and nonlocal discrete defocusing NLS equation are gauge equivalent to the discrete coupled Heisenberg ferromagnet (HF) equation and the discrete modified coupled HF equation, respectively. Under the continuous limit, the discrete coupled HF equation and the modified discrete coupled HF equation lead to the corresponding coupled HF equation and modified coupled HF equation. This means that the nonlocal focusing and defocusing NLS equations are gauge equivalent to the coupled HF and coupled modified HF equatio…
Recently, an integrable system of coupled (2+1)-dimensional nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equations was introduced by Fokas (eq. (18) in Nonlinearity 29}, 319324 (2016)). Following this pattern, two integrable equations [eqs.2 and 3] with specific parity-time symmetry are introduced here, under different reduction conditions. For eq. 2, two kinds of periodic solutions are obtained analytically by means of the Hirota's bilinear method. In the long-wave limit, the two periodic solutions go over into rogue waves (RWs) and semi-rational solutions, respectively. The RWs have a line shape, while the s…
The non-holonomic deformation of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation, uniquely obtained from both the Lax pair and Kupershmidt's bi-Hamiltonian [Phys. Lett. A 372, 2634 (2008)] approaches, is compared with the quasi-integrable deformation of the same system [Ferreira et. al. JHEP 2012, 103 (2012)]. It is found that these two deformations can locally coincide only when the phase of the corresponding solution is discontinuous in space, following a definite phase-modulus coupling of the non-holonomic inhomogeneity function. These two deformations are further found to be not gauge-equivalent in gen…
In this paper, we study integrable multilayer spin systems, namely, the multilayer M-LIII equation. We investigate their relation with the geometric flows of interacting curves and surfaces in some space $R^{n}$. Then we present their the Lakshmanan equivalent counterparts. We show that these equivalent counterparts are, in fact, the vector nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE). It is well-known that the vector NLSE is equivalent to the $Γ$-spin system. Also, we have presented the transformations which give the relation between solutions of the $Γ$-spin system and the multilayer M-LIII equatio…
In this short note, we construct mappings from one-dimensional integrable spinor BECs to matrix nonlinear Schrödinger equation, and solve the Bogoliubov equation of these systems. A map of spin-$n$ BEC is constructed from the $2^n$-dimensional spinor representation of irreducible tensor operators of $so(2n+1)$. Solutions of Bogoliubov equation are obtained with the aid of the theory of squared Jost functions.
We consider an integrable generalization of the nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation that was recently derived by one of the authors using bi-Hamiltonian methods. This equation is related to the NLS equation in the same way that the Camassa Holm equation is related to the KdV equation. In this paper we: (a) Use the bi-Hamiltonian structure to write down the first few conservation laws. (b) Derive a Lax pair. (c) Use the Lax pair to solve the initial value problem. (d) Analyze solitons.
With this paper we begin an investigation of difference schemes that possess Darboux transformations and can be regarded as natural discretizations of elliptic partial differential equations. We construct, in particular, the Darboux transformations for the general self adjoint schemes with five and seven neighbouring points. We also introduce a distinguished discretization of the two-dimensional stationary Schrodinger equation, described by a 5-point difference scheme involving two potentials, which admits a Darboux transformation.
The set of integrable symmetries of the nonstationary Schrödinger equation is shown to admit a natural decomposition into subsets of mutually commuting symmetries. Hierarchies of time evolutions associated with each of these subsets ultimately lead to nonlinear (possibly, operator) equations of the Kadomtsev--Petviashvili I type or its higher analogues, thus demonstrating that the linear problem itself constructively determines the associated nonlinear integrable evolution equations and their hierarchies.
The three equations named in the title are examples of infinite-dimensional completely integrable Hamiltonian systems, and are related to each other via simple geometric constructions. In this paper, these interrelationships are further explained in terms of the recursion operator for the Localized Induction Equation, and the recursion operator is seen to play a variety of roles in key geometric variational formulas.
We revisit integrable discretizations for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation due to Ablowitz and Ladik. We demonstrate how their main drawback, the non-locality, can be overcome. Namely, we factorize the non-local difference scheme into the product of local ones. This must improve the performance of the scheme in the numerical computations dramatically. Using the equivalence of the Ablowitz--Ladik and the relativistic Toda hierarchies, we find the interpolating Hamiltonians for the local schemes and show how to solve them in terms of matrix factorizations.
A system of semi-discrete coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations is studied. To show the complete integrability of the model with multiple components, we extend the discrete version of the inverse scattering method for the single-component discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equation proposed by Ablowitz and Ladik. By means of the extension, the initial-value problem of the model is solved. Further, the integrals of motion and the soliton solutions are constructed within the framework of the extension of the inverse scattering method.
We study two integrable systems associated with the coupled NLS equation: the integrable defect system and the integrable boundary systems. Regarding the first one, we present a type I defect condition, which is described by a Bäcklund transformation frozen at the defect location. For the resulting defect system, we prove its integrability both by showing the existence of an infinite set of conserved quantities and by implementing the classical $r$-matrix method. Regarding the second one, we present some new integrable boundary conditions for the coupled NLS equation by imposing suitable reduc…
In this article, by means of using discrete zero curvature representation and constructing opportune time evolution problems, two new discrete integrable lattice hierarchies with n-dependent coefficients are proposed, which related to a new discrete Schrödinger nonisospectral operator equation. The relation of the two new lattice hierarchies with the Volterra hierarchy is discussed. It has been shown that one lattice hierarchy is equivalent to the positive Volterra hierarchy with n-dependent coefficients and another lattice hierarchy with isospectral problem is equivalent to the negative Volte…
Generalized lattice Heisenberg magnet model is an integrable model exhibiting soliton solutions. The model is physically important for describing the magnon bound states (or soliton excitations) with arbitrary spin, in magnetic materials. In this paper, a time-discrete generalized lattice Heisenberg magnet (GLHM) model is investigated. By writing down the Lax pair representation of the time-discrete GLHM model, we present explicitly the underlying integrable structure like, the Darboux transformation and soliton solutions.
