We apply the factorization technique developed by Kuru and Negro [Ann. Phys. 323 (2008) 413] to study complex classical systems. As an illustration we apply the technique to study the classical analogue of the exactly solvable PT symmetric Scarf II model, which exhibits the interesting phenomenon of spontaneous breakdown of PT symmetry at some critical point. As the parameters are tuned such that energy switches from real to complex conjugate pairs, the corresponding classical trajectories display a distinct characteristic feature - the closed orbits become open ones.
Optomechanical systems typically use light to control the quantum state of a mechanical resonator. In this paper, we propose a scheme for controlling the quantum state of light using the mechanical degree of freedom as a controlled beam splitter. Preparing the mechanical resonator in non-classical states enables an optomechanical Stern-Gerlach interferometer. When the mechanical resonator has a small coherent amplitude it acts as a quantum control, entangling the optical and mechanical degrees of freedom. As the coherent amplitude of the resonator increases, we recover single photon and two-ph…
This article elaborates on entanglement entropy and quantum information theory of geometric flows of (relativistic) Lagrange--Hamilton mechanical systems. A set of basic geometric and quantum mechanics and probability concepts together with methods of computation are developed in general covariant form for curved phase spaces modelled as cotangent Lorentz bundles. The constructions are based on ideas relating the Grigory Perelman's entropy for geometric flows and associated statistical thermodynamic systems to the quantum von Neumann entropy, classical and quantum relative and conditional entr…
We study the motion of a particle in a particular magnetic field configuration both classically and quantum mechanically. For flux-free radially symmetric magnetic fields defined on circular regions, we establish that particle escape speeds depend, classically, on a gauge-fixed magnetic vector potential, and demonstrate some trajectories associated with this special type of magnetic field. Then we show that some of the geometric features of the classical trajectory (perpendicular exit from the field region, trapped and escape behavior) are reproduced quantum mechanically using a numerical meth…
Position-dependent mass harmonic oscillator: classical-quantum mechanical correspondence and ordering-ambiguity
我们回收克鲁兹等人。的(Phys. Lett.
Cavity optomechanical systems are one of the leading experimental platforms for controlling mechanical motion in the quantum regime. We exemplify that the control over cavity optomechanical systems greatly increases by coupling the cavity also to a two-level system, thereby creating a hybrid optomechanical system. If the two-level system can be driven largely independently of the cavity, we show that the non-linearity thus introduced enables us to steer the extended system to non-classical target states of the mechanical oscillator with Wigner functions exhibiting significant negative regions.…
We show that the heating effect of spontaneous wave-function collapse models implies an experimentally significant increment $ΔT$ of equilibrium temperature in a mechanical oscillator. The obtained form $ΔT$ is linear in the oscillator's relaxation time $τ$ and independent of the mass. The oscillator can be in a classical thermal state, the effect $ΔT$ is classical for a wide range of frequencies and quality factors. We note that the test of $ΔT$ does not necessitate quantum state monitoring but tomography. In both gravity-related (DP) and continuous spontaneous localization (CSL) models the s…
We report the realization of dynamical localization in a strongly driven two-mode optomechanical system consisting of two coupled cantilevers. Due to the coupling, mechanical oscillations can transport between the cantilevers. However, by placing one of the cantilevers inside a harmonically oscillating optical trap, we demonstrate that mechanical oscillations become tightly bounded to the isolated cantilevers rather than propagate away at specific driving parameters. The effect of dynamical localization is employed to induce a conductor-to-insulator-like transition in the two-mode mechanical s…
Witnessing quantumness in mesoscopic objects is an important milestone for both quantum technologies and foundational reasons. Cavity optomechanics offers the ideal system to achieve this by combing high precision optical measurements with mechanical oscillators. However, mechanical quantumness can only be established if the behaviour is incompatible with any classical description of an oscillator. After explicitly considering classical and hybrid quantum-classical descriptions of an optomechanical system, we rule out squeezing of the optical field as such a witness by showing it is also predi…
We apply the strategy of the back action evading measurement of a quadrature component of mechanical motion of a test mass to detection of a classical force acting on the mass (Science, 209, (1980) 547) and study both classical and quantum limitations of the technique. We are considering a resonant displacement transducer interrogated with a dichromatic optical pump as a model system in this study. The transducer is represented by a Fabry Perot cavity with a totally reflecting movable end mirror the resonant force of interest acts upon. The cavity is pumped with two coherent optical carriers e…
We theoretically propose a scheme for the generation of a non-classical single-mode motional state of a mechanical resonator (MR) in the three-mode optomechanical systems, in which two optical modes of the cavities are linearly coupled to each other and one mechanical mode of the MR is optomechanically coupled to the two optical modes with the same coupling strength simultaneously. One cavity is driven by a coherent laser light. By properly tuning the frequency of the weak driving field, we obtain engineered Liouvillian superoperator via engineering the selective interaction Hamiltonian confin…
We discuss the semiclassical and classical character of the dynamics of a single spin 1/2 coupled to a bath of noninteracting spins 1/2. On the semiclassical level, we extend our previous approach presented in D. Stanek, C. Raas, and G. S. Uhrig, Phys. Rev. B 88, 155305 (2013) by the explicit consideration of the conservation of the total spin. On the classical level, we compare the results of the classical equations of motions in absence and presence of an external field to the full quantum result obtained by density-matrix renormalization (DMRG). We show that for large bath sizes and not too…
We present a method to implement two-phonon interactions between mechanical resonators and spin qubits in hybrid setups, and show that these systems can be applied for the generation of nonclassical mechanical states even in the presence of dissipation. In particular, we demonstrate that the implementation of a two-phonon Jaynes-Cummings Hamiltonian under coherent driving of the qubit yields a dissipative phase transition with similarities to the one predicted in the model of the degenerate parametric oscillator: beyond a certain threshold in the driving amplitude, the driven-dissipative syste…
Coupled nanomechanical resonators have recently attracted much attention for both fundamental studies in physics and broad applications in high-precession detection or sensing. By studying the Landau-Zener transitions and Rabi oscillation of two coupled resonators, it has been shown that such a two-mode system acts as a classical two-level system bearing the analog to a quantum mechanical two-level one. Here we construct a Stückelberg interferometer with two coupled cantilevers by driving the system through the avoided crossing twice. By measuring the non-adiabatic phase acquired at the Landau…
Several mechanical realizations of PR-Boxes are discussed. Apart from superluminal correlations, which are known not to be realizable by classical devices, the requirements (1) PR-condition on input-output relations, (2) non-signaling, and (3) allowing for independent measurements are discussed separately. The examples show that internal signaling (inside the box) does not invariably imply the possibility of external signaling and may externally be attributed to contextuality. The proposed model requires two classical bits to be exchanged internally in order to realize the defined requirements…
The time-independent Schroedinger and Klein-Gordon equations - as well as any other Helmholtz-like equation - were recently shown to be associated with exact sets of ray-trajectories (coupled by a "Wave Potential" function encoded in their structure itself) describing any kind of wave-like features, such as diffraction and interference. This property suggests to view Wave Mechanics as a direct, causal and realistic, extension of Classical Mechanics, based on exact trajectories and motion laws of point-like particles "piloted" by de Broglie's matter waves and avoiding the probabilistic content …
Quantum statistical methods that are commonly used for the derivation of classical thermodynamic properties are extended to classical mechanical properties. The usual assumption that every real motion of a classical mechanical system is represented by a sharp trajectory is not testable and is replaced by a class of fuzzy models, the so-called maximum entropy (ME) packets. The fuzzier are the compared classical and quantum ME packets, the better seems to be the match between their dynamical trajectories. Classical and quantum models of a stiff rod will be constructed to illustrate the resulting…
Macroscopic mechanical qubits are fundamental both to test the classical-quantum boundary and present suitable candidates for quantum information processing. Motivated by these, we propose a feasible probabilistic scheme to generate an on-demand mechanical qubit, as well as Schrödinger's cat and Fock number states. In order to accomplish this proposal, we study an open dispersive spin-mechanical system in the absence of any external driving. The procedure is solely based on spin post-selection in the weak coupling regime. Through this scheme we demonstrate that the achieved superposition is cl…
Interfacing a single photon with another quantum system is a key capability in modern quantum information science. It allows quantum states of matter, such as spin states of atoms, atomic ensembles or solids, to be prepared and manipulated by photon counting and, in particular, to be distributed over long distances. Such light-matter interfaces have become crucial to fundamental tests of quantum physics and realizations of quantum networks. Here we report non-classical correlations between single photons and phonons -- the quanta of mechanical motion -- from a nanomechanical resonator. We impl…
The interplay between quantum-mechanical and classical evolutions in a chirped driven Rydberg atom is discussed. It is shown that the system allows two continuing resonant excitation mechanisms, i.e., a successive two-level transitions (ladder climbing) and a continuing classical-like nonlinear phase locking (autoresonance). The persistent $1:1$ and $2:1$ resonances between the driving and the Keplerian frequencies are studied in detail and characterized in terms of two dimensionless parameters $P_{1,2}$ representing the driving strength and the nonlinearity in the problem, respectively. The q…
The derivation of the time dependent Schrödinger equation with transversal and longitudinal relaxation, as the quantum mechanical analog of the classical Landau-Lifshitz-Bloch equation, has been described. Starting from the classical Landau-Lifshitz-Bloch equation the transition to quantum mechanics has been performed and the corresponding von-Neumann equation deduced. In a second step the time Schrödinger equation has been derived. Analytical proofs and computer simulations show the correctness and applicability of the derived Schrödinger equation.
The seminal work by T. Kazimierczuk et al. [Nature 514, 343 (2014)] has shown the existence of highly excited exciton states in a regime, where the correspondence principle is applicable and quantum mechanics turns into classical mechanics, however, any interpretation of exciton spectra based on a classical approach to excitons is still missing. Here, we close this gap by computing and comparing quantum mechanical and semiclassical recurrence spectra of cuprous oxide. We show that the quantum mechanical recurrence spectra exhibit peaks, which, by application of semiclassical theories and a sca…
The study of the quantum to classical transition is of fundamental as well as technological importance, and focusses on mesoscopic devices, with a size for which either classical physics or quantum physics can be brought to dominate. A particularly diverse selection of such devices is available in cavity quantum-optomechanics. We show that these can be leveraged for the study of dynamical-tunnelling in a quantum chaotic system. This effect probes the quantum to classical transition deeply, since tunnelling rates sensitively depend on the ability of the quantum system to resolve the underlying …
The semiclassical theory of light-matter interactions describes the interaction between a classical electromagnetic field with a quantum mechanical two-level system. We show that the quantum mechanical two-level system can be modeled by a system of two coupled classical harmonic oscillators whose eigenstates are split in frequency according to the coupling strength and play the roles of the two levels of the quantum mechanical two-level system. The effect of the light field on the mechanical system is modeled as a modulation of the spring constants of the individual oscillators. Using this full…
