It is known that some GIT compactifications associated to moduli spaces of either points in the projective line or cubic surfaces are isomorphic to Baily-Borel compactifications of appropriate ball quotients. In this paper, we show that their respective toroidal compactifications are isomorphic to moduli spaces of stable pairs as defined in the context of the MMP. Moreover, we give a precise mixed-Hodge-theoretic interpretation of this isomorphism for the case of eight labeled points in the projective line.
In this paper we compute the multiple cover Gromov-Witten integrals (analog of the Aspinwall-Morrison formula) for the unramified compactification of the moduli space of stable maps to an embedded $\PO$ in a Calabi-Yau threefold $X$ with the normal bundle $\mathcal{O}_{\PO}(-1) \bigoplus \mathcal{O}_{\PO}(-1)$.

In this paper we construct the analogue of Dedekind eta-function on the moduli space of polarized CY manifolds. We prove that the L-two norm of eta is the regularized determinants of the Laplacians of the CY metric on (0,1) forms. We construct the analogue of the Baily-Borel Compactification of the moduli space of polarized CY and prove that it has the same properties as the Baily-Borel compactification of the locally symmetric Hermitian spaces. We give a summary of joint work with Michael Thaddeus that realizes toroidal compactifcations of split reductive groups as moduli spaces of framed bundles on chains of rational curves. We construct a canonical compactification $SQ^{toric}_{g,K}$ of the moduli of abelian varieties over $Z[ζ_N, 1/N]$ where $ζ_N$ is a primitive $N$-th root of unity. This is very similar to, but slightly diferent from the compactification constructed by the author in Inventiones vol. 136 (1999). Any degenerate abelian scheme on the boundary of $SQ^{toric}_{g,K}$ is reduced and singular and it is one of the stable quasi-abelian varieties introduced by Alexeev and the author (Tohoku J. 1999).
We study semistable sheaves of rank $2$ with Chern classes $c_1=0$, $c_2=2$ and $c_3=0$ on the Fano 3-fold $V_5$ of Picard number $1$, degree $5$ and index $2$. We show that the moduli space of such sheaves has a component that is isomorphic to $\mathbb{P}^5$ by identifying it with the moduli space of semistable quiver representations. The new compactification of moduli scheme of Gieseker-stable vector bundles with the given Hilbert polynomial on a smooth projective polarized surface (S;H), over the field k = \bar k of zero characteristic, is constructed in previous papers of the author. Families of locally free sheaves on the surface S are completed by the locally free sheaves on the schemes which are certain modifications of S. We describe a compactification by KSBA stable pairs of the five-dimensional moduli space of K3 surfaces with purely non-symplectic automorphism of order four and $U(2)\oplus D_4^{\oplus2}$ lattice polarization. We study the moduli space of triples $(C, L_1, L_2)$ consisting of quartic curves $C$ and lines $L_1$ and $L_2$. Specifically, we construct and compactify the moduli space in two ways: via geometric invariant theory (GIT) and by using the period map of certain lattice polarized $K3$ surfaces. The GIT construction depends on two parameters $t_1$ and $t_2$ which correspond to the choice of a linearization. We construct various modular compactifications of the space of elliptic K3 surfaces using tools from the minimal model program, and explicitly describe the surfaces parametrized by their boundaries. The coarse spaces of our constructed compactifications admit morphisms to the Satake-Baily-Borel compactification. Finally, we show that one of our spaces is smooth with coarse space the GIT quotient of pairs of Weierstrass K3 surfaces with a chosen fiber.
We generalize a compactification technique due to C. Simpson in the context of $\mathbb{G}_m$-actions over the ground field of complex numbers, to the case of a universally Japanese base ring. We complement this generalized compactification technique so that it can sometimes yield projectivity results for these compactifications. We apply these projectivity results to the Hodge, de Rham, and Dolbeault moduli spaces for curves, with special regards to ground fields of positive characteristic.
