We examine critically the evidence for deviations from next-to-leading order perturbative DGLAP evolution in HERA data. We briefly review the status of perturbative small-x resummation and of global determinations of parton distributions. We show that the geometric scaling properties of HERA data are consistent with DGLAP evolution, which is also strongly supported by the double asymptotic scaling properties of the data. However, backward--evolution of parton distributions into the low x, low Q^2 region does show evidence of deviations between the observed behaviour and the next-to-leading order predictions. These deviations cannot be explained by missing next-to-next-to-leading order perturbative terms, and are consistent with perturbative small-x resummation.
The evidence from HERA for parton saturation, and other low-$x$ effects beyond the conventional DGLAP formalism, is recalled and critically reviewed in the light of new data and analyses presented at the conference.
We evaluate within the LO DGLAP approximation the dependence on energy of the cross section of the photo(electro)production of vector meson V ($V=J/ψ,...$) in the hard elastic processes off a parton $γ^*+g\to V=J/ψ+g$ as the function of momentum transfer $t=(q_γ-p_V)^2$. We demonstrate that in the limit $-t \ge m_V^2 +Q^2$ the cross section does not contain double logarithmic terms in any order of the DGLAP approximation leading to the energy independent cross section. Thus the energy dependence of cross section $γ^*+p\to J/ψ+{\rm rapidity ~gap} +X$ is governed at large $t$ by the gluon distri…
HERA data on diffractive DIS show deviations from twist 2 DGLAP predictions below $Q^2\sim 5$ GeV$^2$ at low pomeron $ξ$, which may reach up to 100%. These deviations are consistent with higher twists effects extracted from the saturation model. It is a first direct evidence for the higher twists in DIS. This finding affects determination of the diffractive parton densities that are used for the predictions at the LHC.
We present the current status of the application of our approach of {\it exact} amplitude-based resummation in quantum field theory to precision QCD calculations, by realistic MC event generator methods, as needed for precision LHC physics. In this ongoing program of research, we discuss recent results as they relate to the interplay of the attendant IR-Improved DGLAP-CS theory of one of us and the precision of exact NLO matrix element matched parton shower MC's in the Herwig6.5 environment in relation to recent LHC experimental observations. There continues to be reason for optimism in the att…
We study a twist decomposition of diffractive structure functions in the diffractive deep inelastic scattering (DDIS) at HERA. At low Q2 and at large energy the data exhibit a strong excess, up to about 100%, above the twist 2 NLO DGLAP description. The excess in consistent with higher twist effects. It is found, that complementing the DGLAP fit by twist 4 and 6 components of the GBW saturation model leads to a good description of data at low Q2. We conclude that the DDIS at HERA provides the first, strong evidence of higher twist effects in DIS.
The effects of the first nonlinear corrections to the DGLAP evolution equations are studied by using the recent HERA data for the structure function $F_2(x,Q^2)$ of the free proton and the parton distributions from CTEQ5L and CTEQ6L as a baseline. By requiring a good fit to the H1 data, we determine initial parton distributions at $Q_0^2=1.4$ GeV$^2$ for the nonlinear scale evolution. We show that the nonlinear corrections improve the agreement with the $F_2(x,Q^2)$ data in the region of $x\sim 3\cdot 10^{-5}$ and $Q^2\sim 1.5$ GeV$^2$ without paying the price of obtaining a worse agreement at…
We present particular and unique solutions of singlet and non-singlet Dokshitzer-Gribov-Lipatov- Altarelli-Parisi (DGLAP) evolution equations in next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) at low-x. We obtain t-evolutions of deuteron, proton, neutron and difference and ratio of proton and neutron structure functions at low-x from DGLAP evolution equations. The results of t-evolutions are compared with HERA and NMC lox-x and low-Q2 data. We also compare our result of t-evolution of proton structure function with a recent global parameterization.
We introduce a coupled pair of evolution equations for the unintegrated gluon distribution and the sea quark distribution which incorporate both the resummed leading $\ln (1/x)$ BFKL contributions and the resummed leading $\ln (Q^2)$ DGLAP contributions. We solve these unified equations in the perturbative QCD domain. With only two physically motivated parameters we obtain an excellent description of the HERA $F_2$ data.
The very precise combined HERA data provides a testing ground in which the relevance of novel QCD regimes, other than the successful linear DGLAP evolution, in small-x inclusive DIS data can be ascertained. We present a study of the dependence of the AAMQS fits, based on the running coupling BK non-linear evolution equations (rcBK), on the fitted dataset. This allows for the identification of the kinematical region where rcBK accurately describes the data, and thus for the determination of its applicability boundary. We compare the rcBK results with NNLO DGLAP fits, obtained with the NNPDF met…
The forthcoming p+Pb run at the LHC will provide crucial in formation on the initial state effects of heavy ion collisions and on the gluon saturation phenomena. In turn, most of the saturation inspired phenomenology in heavy ion collisions borrows substantial empiric information from the analysis of e+p data, where abundant high quality data on the small-x kinematic region is available. Indeed, the very precise combined HERA data provides a testing ground in which the relevance of novel QCD regimes, other than the successful linear DGLAP evolution, in small-x inclusive DIS data can be ascerta…
The phenomenology of heavy quarkonia production in fixed target experiments and at the Tevatron and HERA colliders is reviewed. The latest theoretical results are presented and compared with data, with emphasis on the predictions of the factorization approach by Bodwin, Braaten and Lepage.
The combined HERA data for the inclusive deep inelastic scattering (DIS) cross sections for the momentum transfer $Q^2 > 1$ GeV$^2$ are fitted within the Dokshitzer-Gribov-Lipatov-Altarelli-Parisi (DGLAP) framework at next-to-leading order (NLO) and next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) accuracy, complemented by a QCD-inspired parameterisation of twist 4 corrections. A modified form of the input parton density functions is also included, motivated by parton saturation mechanism at small Bjorken $x$ and at a low scale. These modifications lead to a significant improvement of the data description…
Recent measurements of inclusive deep inelastic scattering differential cross-section in the range 1.5 \gev2\le Q^2\le 30000 \gev2 and 5\cdot 10^{-6}\le x\le 0.65 are presented. Phenomenological analyses performed from these measurements are also described.
This talk describes the physics input of QCDINS, a Monte Carlo event generator for QCD-instanton induced scattering processes in deep-inelastic scattering.
We perform a BFKL-NLL analysis of forward jet production at HERA which leads to a good description of data over the full kinematical domain. We also predict the azimuthal angle dependence of Mueller-Navelet jet production at the Tevatron and the LHC using the BFKL NLL formalism.
We introduce the new IR-improved Dokshitzer-Gribov-Lipatov-Altarelli-Parisi-Callan-Symanzik (DGLAP-CS) kernels recently developed by one of us into the HERWIG6.5 to generate a new MC, HERWIRI1.0(31), for hadron-hadron scattering at high energies. We use MC data to compare the parton shower generated by the standard DGLAP-CS kernels and that generated by the new IR-improved DGLAP-CS kernels. The seamless interface to MC@NLO, MC@NLO/HERWIRI, is illustrated. We show comparisons with FNAL data and we discuss some possible LHC phenomenology implications.
We recently derived explicit solutions of the leading-order Dokshitzer-Gribov-Lipatov-Altarelli-Parisi (DGLAP) equations for the $Q^2$ evolution of the singlet structure function $F_s(x,Q^2)$ and the gluon distribution $G(x,Q^2)$ using very efficient Laplace transform techniques. We apply our results here to a study of the HERA data on deep inelastic $ep$ scattering as recently combined by the H1 and ZEUS groups. We use initial distributions $F_2^{γp}(x,Q_0^2)$ and $G(x,Q_0^2)$ fixed by a global fit to the HERA data. From $F_2^{γp}(x,Q_0^2)$ we obtain the singlet quark distribution $F_s(x,Q_0^…
We study a twist decomposition of diffractive structure functions in the diffractive deep inelastic scattering at HERA. At low $Q^2$ and at large energy the data exhibit a strong deviation from the twist-2 NLO DGLAP description. It is found that this deviation in consistent with higher twist effects. We conclude that the DDIS at HERA provides the first, strong evidence of higher twist effects in DIS.
We have implemented the new IR-improved Dokshitzer-Gribov-Lipatov-Altarelli-Parisi-Callan-Symanzik (DGLAP-CS) kernels recently developed by one of us in the HERWIG6.5 environment to generate a new MC, HERWIRI1.0(31), for hadron-hadron scattering at high energies. We present MC data that illustrate the comparison between the parton shower generated by the standard DGLAP-CS kernels and that generated by the new IR-improved DGLAP-CS kernels. We also show comparisons with FNAL data and we discuss possible implications for LHC phenomenology.
QCD coherence effects in initial state radiation at small x in deep inelastic scattering in HERA kinematics are studied with the help of the Monte Carlo model SMALLX. Theoretical assumptions based on the CCFM evolution equation are reviewed and the basic properties of the partonic final states are investigated. The results are compared with those obtained in the conventional DGLAP evolution scheme.
We analytically solved the QED $\otimes$ QCD coupled DGLAP evolution equations at leading order (LO) quantum electrodynamics (QED) and next to leading order (NLO) quantum chromodynamics (QCD) approximations, using the Laplace transform method and then computed the proton structure function in terms of the unpolarized parton distributions functions. Our analyitical solutions for parton densities are in good agreement with those from APFEL (A PDF Evolution Library) (Computer Physics Communications 185, 1647-1668 (2014)) and CT14QED (Phys. Rev. D 93, 114015 (2016)) global parameterizations. We al…
We compare different schemes for the treatment of heavy quark production in Deep-Inelastic Scattering (DIS). For fully-integrated quantities such as $F_{2}(x,Q^{2})$, we advocate the use of the General-Massive Variable-Flavor-Number (GM-VFN) scheme; we present some results showing the progress of a Next-to-Leading Order calculation in this scheme. For differential quantities, the Fixed-Flavor-Number (FFN) scheme provides a more appropriate starting point. We present a new calculation of the azimuthal distribution of charm quark production in DIS. All results have been obtained using a Monte Ca…
We consider the photoproduction of D* mesons associated with two hadron jets at HERA collider in the framework of the kt-factorization approach. The unintegrated gluon densities in a proton are obtained from the full CCFM, from unified BFKL-DGLAP evolution equations as well as from the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin prescription. Resolved photon contributions are reproduced by the initial-state gluon radiation. We investigate different production rates and make comparison with the recent experimental data taken by the ZEUS collaboration. Special attention is put on the specific dijet correlations which …
We show that the forward-jet measurements performed at HERA allow for a detailed study of corrections due to next-to-leading logarithms (NLL) in the Balitsky-Fadin-Kuraev-Lipatov (BFKL) approach. While the description of the dσ/dx data shows small sensitivity to NLL-BFKL corrections, these can be tested by the triple differential cross section dσ/dxdk_T^2dQ^2 recently measured. These data can be successfully described using a renormalization-group improved NLL kernel while the standard next-to-leading-order QCD or leading-logarithm BFKL approaches fail to describe the same data in the whole ki…
A detailed comparison of HERA data at low Bjorken-$x$ and low four-momentum-transfer squared, $Q^2$, with predictions based on $\ln{Q^2}$ evolution (DGLAP) in perturbative Quantum Chromo Dynamics suggests inadequacies of this framework. The standard DGLAP evolution was augmented by including an additional higher-twist term in the description of the longitudinal structure function, $F_{\rm L}$. This additional term, $F_{\rm L}~A_{\rm L}^{\rm HT}/Q^2$, improves the description of the reduced cross sections significantly. The resulting predictions for $F_{\rm L}$ suggest that further corrections …
Recent HERA data on small-x structure functions as well as DIS diffraction and diffractive vector meson production are presented. The relationship between these processes and possible indications of dynamics beyond the DGLAP formalism are discussed.
We calculate the cross section of beauty production in electron-proton deep inelastic scattering at HERA collider in the framework of the kt-factorization approach. The unintegrated gluon distributions in a proton are obtained from the full CCFM, from unified BFKL-DGLAP evolution equations as well as from the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin prescription. We investigate different production rates and study the b-quark contribution to the inclusive proton structure function F2(x,Q2) at small x and at moderate and high values of Q2. Our theoretical results are compared with the recent experimental data take…
The measurement of forward jet cross sections has been suggested as a promising probe of new small x parton dynamics and the question is whether the new HERA data provide an indication of this. In this paper the influence of resolved photon processes has been investigated and it has been studied to what extent the inclusion of such processes in addition to normal deep inelastic scattering leads to agreement with data. It is shown that two DGLAP evolution chains from the hard scattering process towards the proton and the photon respectively, are sufficient to describe effects observed in the HE…
We calculate the cross section of charm photoproduction at HERA collider in the framework of the kt-factorization QCD approach. Our analysis cover the inclusive charm production as well as charm and associated jet production processes. Both photon-gluon and gluon-gluon fusion mechanisms are taken into account. The unintegrated gluon densities in a proton and in a photon obtained from the full CCFM, from unified BFKL-DGLAP evolution equations as well as from the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin prescription are used. Our theoretical results are compared with the recent experimental data taken by the H1 and…
We present calculations of the beauty photoproduction at HERA collider in the framework of the kt-factorization approach. Both direct and resolved photon contributions are taken into account. The unintegrated gluon densities in a proton and in a photon are obtained from the full CCFM, from unified BFKL-DGLAP evolution equations as well as from the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin prescription. We investigate different production rates (both inclusive and associated with hadronic jets) and compare our theoretical predictions with the recent experimental data taken by the H1 and ZEUS collaborations. Special…
The data on the diffractive deep inelastic scattering (DDIS) at HERA exhibit a strong excess, up to about 100%, above the twist-two NLO DGLAP description at low $Q^2$ and at large energy. I show, that complementing the DGLAP fit by twist 4 and 6 components of the saturation model leads to a good description of data at low $Q^2$ and conclude that the DDIS at HERA provides the first evidence of higher twist effects in DIS.
The QCD evolution of both unpolarized and polarized generalized parton distributions (GPDs) to next-to-leading order (NLO) accuracy is presented, in both the DGLAP and ERBL regions, for two appropriately symmetrized input distributions based on conventional parton density functions. To illustrate the relative size of the NLO corrections a comparison is made with leading order evolution of the same distributions. For the first time, NLO results are given for both small and large values of the skewedness parameter, $ζ= x_{bj}$, i.e. for all of the kinematic range relevant to HERA and HERMES.
The phenomenology and prospects for a discovery of R-parity violating Supersymmetry at HERA are analysed. Emphasis is put on the direct resonant production of squarks by electron-quark fusion and all possible subsequent decay modes of the squarks are considered. In particular, the full consequences of the mixing in the supersymmetric gaugino-higgsino sector are taken into account. A rich phenomenology emerges for HERA which offers a unique sensitivity to new R-parity violating couplings and good discriminating power against free parameters of the theory.
The recent $F_2$ data can be described using the DGLAP evolution equations with an appropriate choice of input distributions and the choice of the starting scale for the $Q^2$ evolution. We demonstrate in this paper that we cannot conclude that there are no significant shadowing corrections at HERA kinematic region using $F_2$ data only. In this paper we calculate the shadowing corrections to the longitudinal structure function $F_L(x,Q^2)$ and to the charm component of the proton structure function $F_2^c(x,Q^2)$ at HERA kinematic region using an eikonal approach. We demonstrate that the shad…
We develop the color dipole phenomenology of diffractive photo- and electroproduction $γ^{*}\,N\rightarrow V(V')\,N$ of light vector mesons ($V(1S) = ϕ^0, ω^0, ρ^0$) and their radial excitations ($V'(2S) = ϕ', ω', ρ'$). The node of the radial wave function of the $2S$ states in conjunction with the energy dependence of the color dipole cross section is shown to lead to a strikingly different $Q^2$ and $ν$ dependence of diffractive production of the $V(1S)$ and $V'(2S)$ vector mesons. We discuss the restoration of flavor symmetry and universality properties of production of different vector mes…
We determine diffractive parton distributions of the proton from DGLAP based fits to HERA data including the twist--4 contribution from longitudinal polarized virtual photons, which is known to be important in the region of large beta. The biggest impact of this contribution is on the diffractive gluon distribution and on the diffractive longitudinal structure function to be determined from HERA data.
Within the framework of the dipole factorisation, we use a recent collinearly-improved version of the Balitsky-Kovchegov equation to fit the HERA data for inclusive deep inelastic scattering at small Bjorken $x$. The equation includes an all-order resummation of double and single transverse logarithms and running coupling corrections. Compared to similar equations previously proposed in the literature, this work makes a direct use of Bjorken $x$ as the rapidity scale for the evolution variable. We obtain excellent fits for reasonable values for the four fit parameters. We find that the fit qua…
We review our on-going theoretical and phenomenological investigation of the prospects to discover QCD-instantons in deep-inelastic scattering at HERA.
Fits to the final combined HERA deep-inelastic scattering cross-section data within the conventional DGLAP framework of QCD have shown some tension at low $x$ and low $Q^2$. A resolution of this tension incorporating $\ln(1/x)$-resummation terms into the HERAPDF fits is investigated using the xFitter program. The kinematic region where this resummation is important is delineated. Such high-energy resummation not only gives a better description of the data, particularly of the longitudinal structure function $F_L$, it also results in a gluon PDF which is steeply rising at low $x$ for low scales…
By implementing the new IR-improved Dokshitzer-Gribov-Lipatov-Altarelli-Parisi-Callan-Symanzik (DGLAP-CS) kernels recently developed by one of us in the HERWIG6.5 environment we generate a new MC, HERWIRI1.0(31), for hadron-hadron scattering at high energies. We use MC data to illustrate the comparison between the parton shower generated by the standard DGLAP-CS kernels and that generated by the new IR-improved DGLAP-CS kernels. The interface to MC@NLO, MC@NLO/HERWIRI, is illustrated. Comparisons with FNAL data and some discussion of possible implications for LHC phenomenology are also present…
We use the dipole model to analyze the inclusive DIS cross section data, obtained from the HERA I+II measurements \cite{Abramowicz:2015mha}. We show that these combined data are very well described within the dipole model framework, which is complemented with a valence quark structure functions. Our motivation is to investigate the gluon density with the BGK dipole model \cite{BGK} as an alternative to the PDF approach. BGK dipole model uses for evolution the DGLAP mechanism in the $kt$ factorization scheme (in contrast to the collinear factorization for PDFs). We confirm our results from the …
In this contribution we apply the QCD dipole picture combined with $k_T$-factorization to get predictions for deep-inelastic scattering on an onium. Assuming renormalization-group factorization, we get predictions for the $F_2, F_G$ and $R= F_L/F_T$ proton structure functions. We obtain a three-parameter fit of the 1994 H1 data in the low-$x_{bj}$, moderate-$Q^2$ range. $F_G/F_2$ and $R$ are then predicted without any additionnal parameter. The BFKL dynamics contained in the dipole model is shown to provide a relevant model in describing the HERA data. The prediction for $F_2$ and $F_G$ are co…
We performed the detailed NLO analysis of the combined CCFR $xF_3$ and $F_2$ structure functions data and extracted the value of $α_s$, parameters of distributions and higher-twist (HT) terms using the direct solution of the DGLAP equation. The value of $α_s(M_Z)=0.1222\pm 0.0048 (exp)\pm 0.0040(theor)$ was obtained. The result has larger central value and errors, than the original result of the CCFR collaboration, in view of the incorporation into the fits of the HT terms as the free model independent parameters. The $x$-shapes of the HT contributions to $xF_3$ and $F_2$ are in agreement with…
The new IR-improved Dokshitzer-Gribov-Lipatov-Altarelli-Parisi-Callan-Symanzik (DGLAP-CS) kernels recently developed by one of us is implemented in the HERWIG6.5 environment to generate a new MC, HERWIRI1.0(31), for hadron-hadron scattering at high energies. The comparison between the parton shower generated by the standard DGLAP-CS kernels and that generated by the new IR-improved DGLAP-CS kernels is illustrated using MC data. This is done for some of the respective exact {\cal O}(α_s) corrected spectra using the seamless interfaces to MC@NLO while making comparisons with FNAL data. Some disc…
We report on recent progress towards quantitative phenomenology of small x resummation of deep-inelastic structure functions. We compute small x resummed K-factors with realistic PDFs and estimate their impact in the HERA kinematical region. These K-factors, which match smoothly to the fixed order NLO results, approximately reproduce the effect of a small x resummed PDF analysis. Typical corrections are found to be of the same order as the NNLO ones, that is, a few percent, but with opposite sign. These results imply that resummation corrections could be relevant for a global PDF analysis, esp…
We show that the previously introduced CKMT model, based on conventional Regge theory, gives a good description of the HERA data on the structure function F_2^D for large rapidity gap (diffractive) events. These data allow, not only to determine the valence and sea quark content of the Pomeron, but also, through their Q^2 dependence, give information on its gluonic content. Using DGLAP evolution, we find that the gluon distribution in the Pomeron is very hard and the gluons carry more momentum than the quarks. This indicates that the Pomeron, unlike ordinary hadrons, is a mostly gluonic object…
We present an analysis of the most precise set of HERA data within the color dipole formalism, by using an analytical gluon density, based on the double-logarithm approximation of the DGLAP equations in the asymptotic limit of the scaling variable, $σ=\log{(1/x)}\log{(\log{(Q^2/Q_ 0^2)})}\rightarrow \infty$. Fits to data, including charm and bottom quarks are performed and demonstrate the efficiency of the model in describing the reduced cross section, $σ_{r}$, in the wide range $Q^2:(1.5,500)$ GeV$^2$ for two dipole models including parton saturation effects. We also give predictions to $F_{2…
We present particular and unique solutions of singlet and non-singlet Dokshitzer-Gribov-Lipatov-Altarelli-Parisi (DGLAP) evolution equations in leading order (LO) and next-to-leading order (NLO) and gluon, sea and valence quark Dokshitzer-Gribov-Lipatov-Altarelli-Parisi (DGLAP) evolution equations in leading order (LO) by applying Taylor expansion method at small-x. We obtain t-evolutions of deuteron, proton, neutron, difference and ratio of proton and neutron, gluon, light sea and valence quark structure functions and x-evolution of deuteron, gluon and light sea quark structure functions at sm…
In the current region of semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering, most events are accompanied by intensive radiation of soft and collinear partons which cannot be reliably described at any fixed order of perturbative QCD. In this paper, a resummation formalism that describes such multiple parton radiation is compared to the HERA data on semi-inclusive DIS, including the distributions of energy flow and charged particle multiplicity. We show that the resummation of multiple parton radiation improves the agreement between the theory and the data. We make some suggestions on further experimental…
Measurements of the proton structure function $F_2$ in the $Q^2$ range $0.6 - 17 \rm GeV^2$ from ZEUS 1995 shifted vertex data and $Q^2 \simeq 1.5 - 20000 \rm GeV^2$ from 1996 and 1997 ZEUS data are presented. From the former and other ZEUS $F_2$ data the slopes $d F_2 / d \ln Q^2$ at fixed $x$ and $d F_2 / d \ln(1/x)$ at fixed $Q^2$ are derived. $F_2$ data at $Q^2$ below $0.9 \rm GeV^2$ are described successfully by a combination of generalised vector meson dominance and Regge theory. Using a NLO QCD fit the gluon density in the proton is extracted in the range $3 \times 10^{-5} < x < 0.7$ fr…
We present a precise comparison of the results of the dipole models with the newest data from HERA on the diffractive open charm production. We found good agreement with the data on the diffractive open charm production both for the the gluon distributions from the considered dipole models and the DGLAP fits to HERA data from our earlier analysis for diffractive parton distributions with higher twist. We also show that exclusive diffractive charm production can practically be neglected
We determine the initial condition for the small-$x$ evolution equation (BK) from the HERA deep inelastic scattering data using a new parametrization that also keeps the unintegrated gluon distribution positive. The obtained dipole amplitude and its uncertainty estimate can be used to compute single inclusive particle production in proton-proton and proton-nucleus collisions. We argue that one has to use consistently the proton transverse area measured in DIS and the total inelastic cross section when calculating the single inclusive cross section. This leads to a midrapidity nuclear modificat…
The high-precision HERA data can be used as an input to a QCD analysis within the DGLAP formalism to obtain the detailed description of the proton structure in terms of the parton distribution functions (PDFs). However, when searching for Beyond Standard Model (BSM) contributions in the data one should take into account the possibility that the PDF set may already have been biased by partially or totally absorbing previously unrecognised new physics contributions. The ZEUS Collaboration has proposed a new approach to the BSM analysis of the inclusive $ep$ data based on the simultaneous QCD fit…
After a brief introduction into the phenomenology of instantons, results from instanton perturbation theory applied to deep-inelastic electron proton scattering are summarized. Based on event signatures derived from Monte Carlo studies, strategies for enhancing instanton induced events relative to Standard Model deep-inelastic events are developed. Preliminary results for a search for such events performed with the H1 detector at HERA are given.
Including the new HERA data, the $γ^* p$ total cross section is analysed in the generalized vector dominance/colour-dipole picture (GVD/CDP) that contains scaling in $η= (Q^2 + m^2_0) / Λ^2 (W^2)$, where $Λ^2 (W^2)$ is an increasing function of $W^2$. At any $Q^2$, for $W^2 \to \infty$, the cross sections for virtual and real photons become identical, $σ_{γ^* p} (W^2, Q^2) / σ_{γp} (W^2) \to 1$. The gluon density deduced from the colour-dipole cross section fulfills the leading order DGLAP relationship. Evolution à la DGLAP breaks down for $η\lsim 0.1$.
We discuss two different models for the impact parameter dependent dipole cross section: one based on DGLAP evolution and the other inspired by the Balitsky-Kovchegov equation. The parameters are determined from fits to data on the total gamma* p cross section measured at HERA. The impact parameter dependent saturation scale is extracted. Predictions are then confronted with HERA data on exclusive diffractive vector meson production and deeply virtual Compton scattering. Finally, predictions are given for the cross sections of exclusive photoproduced J/psi and Upsilon mesons, and Z^0 bosons, e…
In a previous publication, we have established a collinearly-improved version of the Balitsky-Kovchegov (BK) equation, which resums to all orders the radiative corrections enhanced by large double transverse logarithms. Here, we study the relevance of this equation as a tool for phenomenology, by confronting it to the HERA data. To that aim, we first improve the perturbative accuracy of our resummation, by including two classes of single-logarithmic corrections: those generated by the first non-singular terms in the DGLAP splitting functions and those expressing the one-loop running of the QCD…
The HERA diffractive structure function data are interpreted in terms of `diffractive parton distributions' which satisfy DGLAP evolution. These distributions are modeled assuming that the scattering takes place off a colour singlet `pomeron' target. A quantitative test of the universality of diffractive parton distributions is proposed.
We present a BFKL phenomenology of structure functions in the framework of the generalized BFKL equation for the dipole cross section proposed by us recently. We show that the HERA measurements of excitation of charm at $Q^{2} \lsim $10 GeV$^{2}$ allow determination of the intercept of the BFKL pomeron. A comparison with the experimental data suggests a large contribution from the nonperturbative cross section for colour dipoles of large size $r$.
We present a global analysis of available data on inclusive structure functions measured in electron-proton scattering at small values of Bjorken-x, including the latest data from the combined HERA analysis on reduced cross sections. Our approach relies on the dipole formulation of DIS together with the use of the non-linear running coupling BK equation for the description of the small-x dynamics. With the resulting parametrization we are able to describe the latest FL data measured by the H1 collaboration. Further, we discuss the kinematical domain where significant deviations from NLO-DGLAP …
