The electron and hole states in a CdTe quantum dot containing a single magnetic impurity in an external magnetic field are investigated, using the multiband approximation which includes the heavy hole-light hole coupling effects. The electron-hole spin interactions and s,p-d interactions between the electron, the hole and the magnetic impurity are also included. The exciton energy levels and optical transitions are evaluated using the exact diagonalization scheme. A novel mechanism is proposed here to manipulate impurity-spin in the quantum dot which allows us to drive selectively the spin of the magnetic atom into each of its six possible orientations.
We theoretically consider the effects of having unintentional charged impurities in laterally coupled two-dimensional double (GaAs) quantum dot systems, where each dot contains one or two electrons and a single charged impurity in the presence of an external magnetic field. Using molecular orbital and configuration interaction method, we calculate the effect of the impurity on the 2-electron energy spectrum of each individual dot as well as on the spectrum of the coupled-double-dot 2-electron system. We find that the singlet-triplet exchange splitting between the two lowest energy states, both…
The absorption of electromagnetic radiation of an anisotropic quantum dot is theoretically investigated taking into account the processes associated with simultaneous scattering from ionized impurities. It is shown that the scattering of electrons by impurities leads to the resonance absorption even if we have only one impurity in the quantum dot. Explicit formula is derived for the absorption coefficient. The positions of the resonances peaks are found. The effects of external magnetic field on the resonance absorption are studied.
The influence of isolated impurity atoms on the electron energy spectrum in a parabolic quantum dot in quantizing magnetic field is studied. The impurity potential is approximated by a Gaussian separable operator which allows one to obtain the exact solution of the problem. We demonstrate that in the electron energy spectrum there is a set of local levels which are split from the Landau zone boundaries in the upward or downward direction depending on the impurity type. We have calculated the local level positions, the wave functions of electrons in bound states, and the residues of the electro…
The ground-state energy and fine-structure splitting of ionized shallow donor impurity-exciton complex in quantum dots are investigated. It is found that fine-structure splitting could be largely reduced by the off-center ionized impurities since the anisotropic shape of exciton envelope function is significantly changed. Anomalous Stark shifts of the ground-state energy and efficient tuning of the fine-structure splitting by the external electric field due to the local electric field produced by the ionized impurities are discussed. The scheme may be useful for the design of the quantum dots-…
Using double quantum dots as the weak link of a Josephson junction, we realize the superconducting analog of the celebrated two-impurity Kondo model. The device shows a cusped current-voltage characteristic, which can be modelled by an overdamped circuit relating the observed cusp current to the Josephson critical current. The gate dependence of the cusp current and of the subgap spectra are used as complementary ground-state indicators to demonstrate gate-tuned changes of the ground state from an inter-dot singlet to independently screened Yu-Shiba-Rusinov (YSR) singlets. In contrast to the t…
The effect of a constant electric field and donor impurity on the energies and oscillator strengths of electron intraband quantum transitions in double-well spherical quantum dot GaAs/Al$_{x}$Ga$_{1-x}$As/GaAs is researched. The problem is solved in the framework of the effective mass approximation and rectangular potential wells and barriers model using the method of wave function expansion over a complete set of electron wave functions in nanostructure without electric field. It is shown that under the effect of electric field, the electron in the ground state tunnels from the inner potentia…
We consider the transition of electron between two quantum dots in which the discrete levels are swept past each other with a constant velocity. If a direct tunneling between the dot levels was allowed, an electron will be transferred between the dots when the levels cross. This transfer is described in terms of the conventional Landau-Zener theory. We assume that direct tunneling between the dots is forbidden. Rather, the transfer is due to the resonant tunneling via a discrete impurity level separating the dots. Then the description of the electron transfer reduces to a threestate (two dots …
Within the framework of zero-range potential model in the ap-proach of effective mass, the impurity absorption by the complex Quantum Dot-Impurity Center in an external constant uniform magnetic field is considered. Under condition that the influence of a magnetic field on the ground state of quantum dot is negligible, we have derived the light absorption coefficient of impurity for the case of longitudinal polarization. It is shown that with an increase of the intensity of magnetic field the threshold of an impurity absorption band is shifted to the short-wave spectrum region. Also, the absor…
We consider the optical properties of a single magnetic impurity in a self-assembled quantum dot. We show that using the resonant pumping one can address and manipulate selectively individual spin states of a magnetic impurity. The mechanisms of resonant optical polarization of a single impurity in a quantum dot involve anisotropic exchange interactions and are different to those in diluted semiconductors. A Mn impurity can act as qubit. The limiting factors for the qubit manipulation are the electron-hole exchange interaction and finite temperature.
We analyze the consequences of a first-order (in the effective Kondo coupling) inter-impurity correlation present in the Two-Impurity Anderson Hamiltonian. This correlation generates a pair of Kondo Doublet states which are responsible for the first (higher energy) Kondo stage of these systems. Applied to systems of quantum dots in a semiconductor heterolayer, these Doublets predict a mainly ferromagnetic dot-dot spin correlation which is different than the expected from the second-order RKKY interaction. In order to effectively screen both dots, a parallel alignment of the dot-spins is favore…
We present a microscopic theory of the optical properties of self-assembled quantum dots doped with a single magnetic manganese (Mn) impurity and containing a controlled number of electrons. The single-particle electron and heavy-hole electronic shells are described by two-dimensional harmonic oscillators. The electron-electron, electron-hole Coulomb as well as the short-range electron spin-Mn spin and hole spin-Mn spin contact exchange interactions are included. The electronic states of the photo-excited electron-hole-Mn complex and of the final electron-Mn complex are expanded in a finite nu…
The hole energy spectrum with the ion of an acceptor impurity in the quantum dot has been calculated using the spherical approximation of the multiband Luttinger model. The dependence of the hole energy levels on the impurity location in the quantum dot has been studied. The effect of the impurity location on the dipole momentum and the oscillator strength has been analyzed. The hole interlevel absorption coefficient has been calculated.
In the present work, genetic algorithm method (GA) is applied to the problem of impurity at the center of a spherical quantum dot for infinite confining potential case. For this purpose, any trial variational wave function is considered for the ground state and energy values are calculated. In applying the GA to the problem under investigation, two different approaches were followed. Furthermore, a standard variational procedure is also performed to determine the energy eigenvalues. The results obtained by all methods are found in satisfactory agreement with each other and also with the exact …
In this study, we have performed a detailed investigation of the electronic properties of a core/shell/well/shell multi-layered spherical quantum dot, such as energy eigenvalues, wave functions, electron probability distribution and binding energies. The energy eigenvalues and their wave functions of the considered structure have been calculated for cases with and without an on-center impurity. For this purpose, the Schrödinger equation has been numerically solved by using the shooting method in the effective mass approximation for a finite confining potential. The electronic properties have b…
We report on the resonant optical pumping of the |\pm1> spin states of a single Mn dopant in an InAs/GaAs quantum dot embedded itself in a charge tuneable device. The experiment relies on a "W" scheme of transitions reached when a suitable longitudinal magnetic field is applied. The optical pumping is achieved via the resonant excitation of the central Λ system at the neutral exciton X0 energy. For a specific gate voltage, the red-shifted photoluminescence of the charged exciton X- is observed, which allows non-destructive readout of the spin polarization. An arbitrary spin preparation in the …
We consider theoretically a magnetic impurity spin driven by polarized electrons tunneling through a double quantum dot system. Spin blockade effect and spin conservation in the system make the magnetic impurity sufficiently interact with each transferring electron. As a results, a single collected electron carries information about spin change of the magnetic impurity. The scheme may develop all electrical manipulation of magnetic atoms by means of single electrons, which is significant for the implementation of scalable logical gates in information processing systems.
We present a general formulation of the ground state binding energy of a shallow hydrogenic impurity in spherical quantum dot with parabolic confinement, considering the effects of polarization and self energy. The variational approach within the effective mass approximation is employed here. The binding energy of an on-center impurity is computed for a $\mathrm{GaAs}$/ $\mathrm{{Al}_{x}{Ga}_{1-x}As}$ quantum dot as a function of the dot size with the dot barrier as parameter. The influence of polarization and self energy are also treated separately. Results indicate that the binding energy in…
We study the competition of hole capture between an In(Ga)As quantum dot and a directly adjacent ionized impurity in view of spin-photon interfaces. The Kerr rotation noise spectroscopy at 4.2 K shows that the hole-capture probability of the In(Ga)As quantum dot is about one order of magnitude higher compared to the hole-capture probability of the ionized impurity and suggests that a simultaneous occupation of quantum dot and impurity by a hole is efficiently suppressed due to Coulomb interaction. A theoretical model of interconnected spin and charge noise allows the quantitative specification…
We study the efficiency of modulated laser pulses to produce efficient and fast charge localization transitions in a two-electron double quantum dot. We use a configuration interaction method to calculate the electronic structure of a quantum dot model within the effective mass approximation. The interaction with the electric field of the laser is considered within the dipole approximation and optimal control theory is applied to design high-fidelity ultrafast pulses in pristine samples. We assessed the influence of the presence of Coulomb charged impurities on the efficiency and speed of the …
Tunneling conductance through two quantum dots, which are connected in series to left and right leads, is calculated by using the numerical renormalization group method. As the hopping between the dots increases from very small value, the following states continuously appear; (i) Kondo singlet state of each dot with its adjacent-site lead, (ii) singlet state between the local spins on the dots, and (iii) double occupancy in the bonding orbital of the two dots. The conductance shows peaks at the transition regions between these states. Especially, the peak at the boundary between (i) and (ii) h…
We study a series-coupled double quantum dot in the Kondo regime modeled by the two-impurity Anderson model and find a new conduction-band mediated superexchange interaction that competes with Kondo physics in the strong Coulomb interaction limit. Our numerical renormalization group results, complemented with the higher-order Rayleigh-Schrödinger perturbation theory, show that the novel exchange mechanism leads to clear experimental consequences that can be checked in transport measurements through double quantum dots.
We simulate the nonequilibrium dynamics of two generic many-body quantum impurity models by employing the recently developed iterative influence-functional path integral method [Phys. Rev. B {\bf 82}, 205323 (2010)]. This general approach is presented here in the context of quantum transport in molecular electronic junctions. Models of particular interest include the single impurity Anderson model and the related spinless two-state Anderson dot. In both cases we study the time evolution of the dot occupation and the current characteristics at finite temperature. A comparison to mean-field resu…
Magneto-optical properties of the quantum dot - impurity center (QD-IC) systems synthesized in a transparent dielectric matrix are considered. For the QD one-electron state description the parabolic model of the confinement potential is used. Within the framework of zero-range potential model and the effective mass approach, the light impurity absorption coefficient for the case of transversal polarization with respect to the applied magnetic field direction, with consideration of the QD size dispersion, has been analytically calculated. It is shown that for the case of transversal polarizatio…
We theoretically investigate the electron transport properties for a semiconductor quantum wire containing a single finite-size attractive impurity under an external terahertz electromagnetic field illumination in the ballistic limit. Within the effective mass free-electron approximation, the scattering matrix for the system has been formulated by means of a time-dependent mode matching method. Some interesting properties of the electron transmission for the system have been shown through a few groups of numerical examples. It is found that in the case of the comparative stronger field amplitu…
In this study, we have investigated the photoionization cross section of an on-center hydrogenic impurity in a multi-layered spherical quantum dot. The electronic energy levels and their wave functions have been determined fully numerically by shooting method. Also, we have calculated the binding energy of the impurity by using these energy values. The photoionization cross section has also been computed as a function of the layer thickness and normalized photon energies. We have discussed in detail the possible physical reasons behind the changes in the binding energies and photoionization cr…
We study the nonequilibrium spectral function of the single-impurity Anderson model connecting with multi-terminal leads. The full dependence on frequency and bias voltage of the nonequilibrium self-energy and spectral function is obtained analytically up to the second-order perturbation regarding the interaction strength $U$. High and low bias voltage properties are analyzed for a generic multi-terminal dot, showing a crossover from the Kondo resonance to the Coulomb peaks with increasing bias voltage. For a dot where the particle-hole symmetry is not present, we construct a current-preservin…
We present an approach for entangling electron spin qubits localized on spatially separated impurity atoms or quantum dots via a multi-electron, two-level quantum dot. The effective exchange interaction mediated by the dot can be understood as the simplest manifestation of Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida exchange, and can be manipulated through gate voltage control of level splittings and tunneling amplitudes within the system. This provides both a high degree of tuneability and a means for realizing high-fidelity two-qubit gates between spatially separated spins, yielding an experimentally acce…
Achieving controllable coupling of dopants in silicon is crucial for operating donor-based qubit devices, but it is difficult because of the small size of donor-bound electron wavefunctions. Here we report the characterization of a quantum dot coupled to a localized electronic state, and we present evidence of controllable coupling between the quantum dot and the localized state. A set of measurements of transport through this device enable the determination of the most likely location of the localized state, consistent with an electronically active impurity in the quantum well near the edge o…
We predict a new type of the negative-$U$ Anderson impurity formed in a triple quantum dot. The two dots of the system behave as a negative-$U$ impurity preferring zero or double electron occupancy rather than single occupancy, and the third dot stabilizes the attractive interaction of $U < 0$ via Coulomb repulsion. Using a bosonization method, we find that the system has the two different phases of massive or vanishing charge fluctuations between the two occupancies at low temperature, which are equivalent with the antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic phases of the anisotropic Kondo model, res…
We have measured systematic repetitions of avoided crossings in low temperature three-terminal transport through a carbon nanotube with encapsulated C60 molecules. We show that this is a general effect of the hybridization of a host quantum dot with an impurity. The well-defined nanotube allows identification of the properties of the impurity, which we suggest to be a chain of C60 molecules inside the nanotube. This electronic coupling between the two subsystems opens the interesting and potentially useful possibility of contacting the encapsulated molecules via the tube.
In this study, we have investigated the inter-sublevel optical properties of a core/shell/well/shell spherical quantum dot with the form of quantum dot-quantum well heterostructure. In order to determine the energy eigenvalues and corresponding wave functions, the Schrödinger equation has been solved full numerically by using shooting method in the effective mass approximation for a finite confining potential. The inter-sublevel optical absorption and the oscillator strength between ground ($1s$) and excited ($1p$) states have been examined based on the computed energies and wave functions. Al…
We consider a spin-orbit coupled particle confined in a quantum dot in a bath of impurity spins. We investigate the consequences of spin-orbit coupling on the interactions that the particle mediates in the spin bath. We show that in the presence of spin-orbit coupling, the impurity-impurity interactions are no longer spin-conserving. We quantify the degree of this symmetry breaking and show how it relates to the spin-orbit coupling strength. We identify several ways how the impurity ensemble can in this way relax its spin by coupling to phonons. A typical resulting relaxation rate for a self-a…
We present exact results on the non-equilibrium current fluctuations for 2 quantum dots in series throughout a crossover from non-Fermi liquid to Fermi liquid behavior described by the 2 impurity Kondo model. The result corresponds to resonant tunneling of carriers of charge $2e$ for a critical inter-impurity coupling. At low energy scales, the result can be understood from a Fermi liquid approach that we develop and use to also study non-equilibrium transport in an alternative double dot realization of the 2 impurity Kondo model under current experimental study.
We argue through a combination of slave boson mean field theory and the Bethe ansatz that the ground state of closely spaced double quantum dots in parallel coupled to a single effective channel are Fermi liquids. We do so by studying the dots' conductance, impurity entropy, and spin correlation. In particularly we find that the zero temperature conductance is characterized by the Friedel sum rule, a hallmark of Fermi liquid physics, and that the impurity entropy vanishes in the limit of zero temperature, indicating the ground state is a singlet. This conclusion is in opposition to a number of…
We study transport across a magnetic impurity by means of a recently developed slave-spin technique that does not require any constraint. Within a conserving mean-field approximation we find a conductance that displays both the known zero-bias anomaly but also the expected peak at bias of order U. We extend the slave-spin mean-field approximation to study the out of equilibrium transient evolution of a quantum dot. We apply the method to investigate the time-evolution of a quantum dot induced by a time-dependent electrochemical potential applied to the contacts. Similarly to the time-dependent…
A detailed study of the low-temperature physics of an interacting double quantum dot system in a T-shape configuration is presented. Each quantum dot is modeled by a single Anderson impurity and we include an inter-dot electron-electron interaction to account for capacitive coupling that may arise due to the proximity of the quantum dots. By employing a numerical renormalization group approach to a multi-impurity Anderson model, we study the thermodynamical and transport properties of the system in and out of the Kondo regime. We find that the two-stage-Kondo effect reported in previous works …
We present a detailed analysis of the electronic and optical properties of two-electron quantum dots with a two-dimensional Gaussian confinement potential. We study the effects of Coulomb impurities and the possibility of manipulate the entanglement of the electrons by controlling the confinement potential parameters. The degree of entanglement becomes highly modulated by both the location and charge screening of the impurity atom, resulting two regimes: one of low entanglement and other of high entanglement, with both of them mainly determined by the magnitude of the charge. It is shown that …
We consider electrons confined to a quantum dot interacting antiferromagnetically with a spin-$\half$ Kondo impurity. The electrons also interact among themselves ferromagnetically with a dimensionless coupling $\tilde{J}$, where $\tilde{J}=1$ denotes the bulk Stoner transition. We show that as $\tilde{J}$ approaches 1 there is a regime with enhanced Kondo correlations, followed by one where the Kondo effect is destroyed and impurity is spin polarized opposite to the dot electrons. The most striking signature of the first, Stoner-enhanced Kondo regime, is that a Zeeman field increases the Kond…
The system of several (N) quantum dots coupled in parallel to the same single-mode conduction channel can be modelled as a single-channel N-impurity Anderson model. Using the generalized Schrieffer-Wolff transformation we show that near the particle-hole symmetric point, the effective Hamiltonian in the local moment regime is the N-impurity S=1/2 Kondo model. The conduction-band-mediated RKKY exchange interaction between the dots is ferromagnetic and at intermediate temperatures locks the moments into a maximal spin S=N/2 ground state. We provide an analytical estimate for the RKKY interaction…
We study the physics of electron tunneling between multiple quantum dots and the edge of a quantum Hall state. Our results generalize earlier work [G. A. Fiete, W. Bishara, C. Nayak, Phys. Rev. Lett. 101, 176801 (2008)] in which it was shown that a single quantum dot tunnel coupled to a non-Abelian quantum Hall state can realize a stable multi-channel Kondo fixed point at low-energy. In this work, we investigate the physics of multiple dots and find that a rich set of possible low-energy fixed points arises, including those with non-Fermi liquid properties. Previously unidentified fixed points…
We investigate experimentally and theoretically few-particle effects in the optical spectra of single quantum dots (QDs). Photo-depletion of the QD together with the slow hopping transport of impurity-bound electrons back to the QD are employed to efficiently control the number of electrons present in the QD. By investigating structurally identical QDs, we show that the spectral evolutions observed can be attributed to intrinsic, multi-particle-related effects, as opposed to extrinsic QD-impurity environment-related interactions. From our theoretical calculations we identify the distinct trans…
The impurity-related electron transport through a double quantum dot (QD) Aharonov-Bohm (AB) interferometer is theoretically studied, by considering impurities coupled to the QDs in the interferometer arms. When investigating the linear conductance spectra \emph{vs} the impurity levels, we show that the impurities influence the electron transport in a nontrivial way, since their suppressing or enhancing the electron tunneling. A presented single-level impurity leads to the appearance of Fano lineshapes in the conductance spectra in the absence of magnetic flux, with the positions of Fano antir…
We study the influence of a magnetic impurity or ultrasmall quantum dot on the charge persistent current of a mesoscopic ring. The system consists of electrons in a one-dimensional ring threaded by spin-dependent Aharonov-Bohm/Casher fluxes, coupled via an antiferromagnetic exchange interaction to a localized electron. By passing to a basis of electron states with definite parities, the problem is mapped onto a Kondo model for the even-parity channel plus free electrons in the odd-parity channel. States of opposite parities decouple for values of the flux corresponding to periodic or antiperio…
Density-functional theory is used to study the electronic structure of quantum dots in a magnetic field. New series of magic numbers are found for the total angular momentum of electrons. The empirical formula for the plateau width is obtained. The effect of a charged impurity on the electronic structure of a quantum dot has been studied.
We propose a realization of the two-impurity Anderson model in a double quantum-dot device. When charge transfer between the dots is suppressed the system exhibits a quantum phase transition, controlled by a surface of non-Fermi liquid fixed points parameterized by the charge valences of the dots. Employing conformal field theory techniques, we identify the scaling exponents that govern transport and thermodynamics close to criticality. We also determine the dynamical exponents that set the time scale for buildup of the non-Fermi liquid state after the system is suddenly shifted into the criti…
Pinning of magnetic-field induced Wigner molecules (WMs) confined in parabolic two-dimensional quantum dots by a charged defect is studied by an exact diagonalization approach. We found a re-entrant pinning of the WMs as function of the magnetic field, a magnetic field induced re-orientation of the WMs and a qualitatively different pinning behaviour in the presence of a positive and negative Coulomb impurity.
We study the single impurity Anderson model (SIAM) using the equations of motion method (EOM), the non-crossing approximation (NCA), the one-crossing approximation (OCA), and Wilson's numerical renormalization group (NRG). We calculate the density of states and the linear conductance focusing on their dependence on the chemical potential and on the temperature paying special attention to the Kondo and Coulomb blockade regimes for a large range of model parameters. We report that some standard approximations based on the EOM technique display a rather unexpected poor behavior in the Coulomb blo…
We model a small quantum dot with a magnetic impurity by the Anderson Hamiltonian with a supplementary exchange interaction term. The transport calculations are performed by means of the Green functions within the equation of motion scheme, in which two decoupling procedures are proposed, for high and low temperatures, respectively. The paper focuses on the charge fluctuations for such a system, aspect not addressed before, as well as on the Kondo resonance. We show a specific role of the excited state, which can be observed in transport and in spin-spin correlations. Our studies show on a new…
We study the low-temperature transport properties of the systems of parallel quantum dots described by the N-impurity Anderson model. We calculate the quasiparticle scattering phase shifts, spectral functions and correlations as a function of the gate voltage for N up to 5. For any N, the conductance at the particle-hole symmetric point is unitary. For N >= 2, a transition from ferromagnetic to antiferromagnetic impurity spin correlations occurs at some gate voltage. For N >= 3, there is an additional transition due to an abrupt change in average impurity occupancy. For odd N, the conductance …
The archetypal two-impurity Kondo problem in a serially-coupled double quantum dot is investigated in the presence of a thermal bias $θ$. The slave-boson formulation is employed to obtain the nonlinear thermal and thermoelectrical responses. When the Kondo correlations prevail over the antiferromagnetic coupling $J$ between dot spins we demonstrate that the setup shows negative differential thermal conductance regions behaving as a thermal diode. Besides, we report a sign reversal of the thermoelectric current $I(θ)$ controlled by $t/Γ$ ($t$ and $Γ$ denote the interdot tunnel and reservoir-dot…
We investigate the dynamics of charge--states coherence in a degenerate double--dot Aharonov--Bohm interferometer with finite interdot Coulomb interactions. The quantum coherence of the charge states is found to be sensitive to the transport setup configurations, involving both the single--electron impurity channels and the Coulomb--assisted ones. We numerically demonstrate the emergence of a complete coherence between the two charge states, with the relative phase being continuously controllable through the magnetic flux. Remarkably, a fully coherent charge qubit arises at the double--dots el…
Anderson impurity model for semiconductor quantum dot is extended to take into account both particle and hole branches of charge excitations. It is shown that in dots with even number of electrons where the Kondo effect is absent in the ground state, novel midgap excitonic states emerge in the energy spectrum due to Kondo-type shake-up processes. The relevance of the model to rare earth ions adsorbed on metallic surfaces is discussed.
The nonequilibrium time evolution of a quantum dot is studied by means of dynamic equations for time-dependent Greens functions derived from a two-particle-irreducible (2PI) effective action for the Anderson impurity model. Coupling the dot between two leads at different voltages, the dynamics of the current through the dot is investigated. We show that the 2PI approach is capable to describe the dynamical build-up of the Kondo effect, which shows up as a sharp resonance in the spectral function, with a width exponentially suppressed in the electron self coupling on the dot. An external voltag…
The energy levels of an impurity center in a deep quantum well of width L and depth g are studied analytically . Renormalised perturbative series are constructed in the regions g L^ << 1 and g L^2 >> 1. Maximal binding energy and wave function deformation to a quasi-twodimensional function are found to occur at a certain L_c satisfying sqrt{g} L_c ~ 1. Similar results may be obtained for the impurity in a quantum wire, in a dot or in a multiwell structure.
A simple, single-color method for permanent marking of the position of individual self-assembled semiconductor Quantum Dots (QDs) at cryogenic temperatures is reported. The method combines in situ photolithography with standard micro-photoluminescence spectroscopy. Its utility is proven by a systematic magnetooptical study of a single CdTe/ZnTe QD containing a Mn2+ ion, where a magnetic field of up to 10 T in two orthogonal, Faraday and Voigt, configurations is applied to the same QD. The presented approach can be applied to a wide range of solid state nanoemitters.
The effects of spin-orbit (SO) coupling arising from the confinement potential in single and two vertically-coupled quantum dots have been investigated. Our work indicates that a dot containing a single electron shows the lifting of the degeneracy of dipole-allowed transitions at B=0 due to the SO coupling which disappears for a dot containing two electrons. For coupled dots with one electron in each dot, the optical spectra is not affected by the coupling and is the same as the dot containing one electron. However, for the case of two coupled dots where one partner dot has two interacting ele…
We investigate the heat current of a strongly interacting quantum dot in the presence of a voltage bias in the Kondo regime. Using the slave- boson mean-field theory, we discuss the behavior of the energy flow and the Joule heating. We find that both contributions to the heat current dis- play interesting symmetry properties under reversal of the applied dc bias. We show that the symmetries arise from the behavior of the dot trans- mission function. Importantly, the transmission probability is a function of both energy and voltage. This allows us to analyze the heat current in the nonlinear re…

A promising method to investigate dark exciton transitions in quantum dots is presented. The optical recombination of the dark exciton is allowed when the exciton state is coupled with an individual magnetic impurity (manganese ion). It is shown that the efficient radiative recombination is possible when the exchange interaction with the magnetic ion is accompanied by a mixing of the heavy-light hole states related to an in-plane anisotropy of the quantum dot. It is also shown that the dark exciton recombination is an efficient channel of manganese spin orientation.
