We investigate how thermal quantum discord (QD) and classical correlations (CC) of a two-qubit one-dimensional XX Heisenberg chain in thermal equilibrium depend on the temperature of the bath as well as on nonuniform external magnetic fields applied to two qubits and varied separately. We show that the behavior of QD differs in many unexpected ways from the thermal entanglement (EOF). For the nonuniform case (B1 = -B2), we find that QD and CC are equal for all values of (B1 = -B2) and for different temperatures. We show that, in this case, the thermal states of the system belong to a class of mixed states and satisfy certain conditions under which QD and CC are equal. The specification of this class and the corresponding conditions are completely general and apply to any quantum system in a state in this class satisfying these conditions. We further find that the relative contributions of QD and CC can be controlled easily by changing the relative magnitudes of B1 and B2. Finally, we connect our results with the monogamy relations between the EOF, CC and the QD of two qubits and the environment.
We study the thermal entanglement of a 2-qutrit spin chain with nonlinear coupling in the presence of nonuniform magnetic field. Thermal entanglement of an arbitrary (finite dimensional) m-partite system vanishes at some finite threshold temperature T_s. We investigate the dependence of T_s on the system's parameters, i.e. the nonlinear coupling and the magnetic field, for this 2-qutrit system. In addition, we compare two lower bounds of I-concurrence for this system and also study its dense coding capacity as a function of system's parameters.
The thermal entanglement in a two-spin-qutrit system with two spins coupled by exchange interaction under a magnetic field in an arbitrary direction is investigated. Negativity, the measurement of entanglement, is calculated. We find that for any temperature the evolvement of negativity is symmetric with respect to magnetic field. The behavior of negativity is presented for four different cases. The results show that for different temperature, different magnetic field give maximum entanglement. Both the parallel and antiparallel magnetic field cases are investigated qualitatively (not quantita…
We study the effect of inhomogeneities in the magnetic field on the thermal entanglement of a two spin system. We show that in the ferromagnetic case a very small inhomogeneity is capable to produce large values of thermal entanglement. This shows that the absence of entanglement in the ferromagnetic Heisenberg system is highly unstable against inhomogeneoity of magnetic fields which is inevitably present in any solid state realization of qubits.
For a two-qubit system under local depolarizing channels, the most robust and most fragile states are derived for a given concurrence or negativity. For the one-sided channel, the pure states are proved to be the most robust ones, with the aid of the evolution equation for entanglement given by Konrad et al. [Nat. Phys. 4, 99 (2008)]. Based on a generalization of the evolution equation for entanglement, we classify the ansatz states in our investigation by the amount of robustness, and consequently derive the most fragile states. For the two-sided channel, the pure states are the most robust f…
A quantum network is a promising quantum many-body system because of its tailored geometry and controllable interaction. Here, we propose an external control scheme for the qubit-photon interaction and multiqubit reset in a dissipative quantum network, which comprises superconducting circuit chains with microwave drives and filter-filter couplings. The traditional multiqubit reset of the quantum network requires physically disconnected qubits to prevent their entanglement. However, we use an original effect of dissipation, i.e., consuming the entanglement generated by qubits' interaction, to a…
We have investigated the dynamics of entanglement between two spin-1/2 qubits that are subject to independent kick and Gaussian pulse type external magnetic fields analytically as well as numerically. Dyson time ordering effect on the dynamics is found to be important for the sequence of kicks. We show that "almost-steady" high entanglement can be created between two initially unentangled qubits by using carefully designed kick or pulse sequences.
A scheme for backward retrieval in optical quantum memories in which information is stored in collective states of an extended resonant atomic ensemble is developed such that phase conjugation can be implemented by application of an external nonuniform electric (magnetic) field without use of coherent exciting pulses. The possibilities of realizing such a scheme using resonant solid-state materials are discussed.
We analyze the dynamics of a qubit-resonator system coupled with a thermal bath and external electromagnetic fields. Using the evolution equations for the set of Heisenberg operators, that describe the whole system, we derive an expression for the resonator field, accounting for the resonator-drive,-bath, and -qubit interaction. The renormalization of the resonator frequency, caused by the qubit-resonator interaction, is accounted for. Using solutions for the resonator field, we derive the equation describing qubit dynamics. The influence of the qubit evolution during the measurement time on t…
For a flux qubit described by a two-level system of equations we propose a special time dependent external control field. We show that for a qubit placed in this field there exists a critical value of tunnel frequency. When the tunnel frequency is close to its critical value, the probability value of a definite direction of the current circulating in a Josephson-junction circuit may be kept above 1/2 during a desirable time interval. We also show that such a behavior is not much affected by a sufficiently small dissipation.
We give the map representing the evolution of a qubit under the action of non-dissipative random external fields. From this map we construct the corresponding master equation that in turn allows us to phenomenologically introduce population damping of the qubit system. We then compare, in this system, the time-regions when non-Markovianity is present on the basis of different criteria both for the non-dissipative and dissipative case. We show that the adopted criteria agree both in the non-dissipative case and in the presence of population damping.
We investigate the ground state and the thermal entanglement in the two-qubit Ising model interacting with a site-dependent magnetic field. The degree of entanglement is measured by calculating the concurrence. For zero temperature and for certain direction of the applied magnetic field, the quantum phase transition observed under a uniform external magnetic field disappears once a very small non-uniformity is introduced. Furthermore, we have shown analytically and confirmed numerically that once the direction of one of the magnetic field is along the Ising axis then no entangled states can be…
The spin-vortex-induced loop current (SVILC) is a nano-sized loop current predicted to exist in the CuO$_2$ plane in the bulk of hole-doped cuprate superconductors. It is a persistent loop current protected by the topological winding number associated with the wave function. It exists around a spin-vortex created by the itinerant electrons with a doped hole at its center. The direction of each SVILC can be either clockwise (winding number is -1) or counterclockwise (winding number is +1) and the winding number with no current (winding number is zero) is forbidden by the singlevalued requiremen…
Perturbative anticrossings have long been identified as a potential computational bottleneck for quantum annealing. This bottleneck can appear, for example, when a uniform transverse driver Hamiltonian is applied to each qubit. Previous theoretical research sought to alleviate such anticrossings by adjusting the transverse driver Hamiltonians on individual qubits according to a perturbative approximation. Here we apply this principle to a physical implementation of quantum annealing in a D-Wave 2000Q system. We use samples from the quantum annealing hardware and per-qubit anneal offsets to pro…
Imagine that you have several sets of two coupled qubits, but you do not know the parameters of their Hamitonians. How to determine these without resorting to the usual spectroscopy approach to the problem? Based on numerical modeling, we show that all the parameters of a system of two coupled qubits can be determined by applying to it an external classical noise and analysing the Fourier spectrum of the elements of the system's density matrix. In particular, the interlevel spacings as well as the strength and sign of qubit-qubit coupling can be determined this way.
It is shown that the Hohenberg-Kohn lemma and theorem are direct consequences of the statement that the ground state energy (or free energy) of a system of interacting particles in an external field is a unique functional of the potential of this field. This means that, if the Hohenberg-Kohn theorem is valid, the nonuniform density in the equilibrium system and the external field potential are biunique functionals. In this case, the nonuniform density is intimately related to the inverse response function. On this basis, a regular procedure can be constructed for determining the density functi…
Quantum Steering vs Entanglement and Extracting Work in an Anisotropic Two-Qubit Heisenberg Model in Presence of External Magnetic Fields with DM and KSEA Interactions
We have investigated the analytical and numerical dynamics of entanglement for two qubits that interact with each other via Heisenberg XXX-type interaction and subject to local time-specific external kick and Gaussian pulse-type magnetic fields in x-y plane. The qubits have been assumed to be initially prepared in different pure separable and maximally entangled states and the effect of the strength and the direction of external fast pulses on concurrence has been investigated. The carefully designed kick or pulse sequences are found to enable one to obtain constant long-lasting entanglement w…
In adiabatic rapid passage, the Bloch vector of a qubit is inverted by slowly inverting an external field to which it is coupled, and along which it is initially aligned. In non-adiabatic twisted rapid passage, the external field is allowed to twist around its initial direction with azimuthal angle ϕ(t) at the same time that it is non-adiabatically inverted. For polynomial twist, ϕ(t) \sim Bt^{n}. We show that for n \ge 3, multiple qubit resonances can occur during a single inversion of the external field, producing strong interference effects in the qubit transition probability. The character…
In this paper, we study the influence of anisotropy on the usefulness, of the entanglement in a two-qubit Heisenberg XY chain at thermal equilibrium in the presence of an external magnetic field, as resource for quantum teleportation via the standard teleportation protocol. We show that the nonzero thermal entanglement produced by adjusting the external magnetic field strength beyond some critical strength is a useful resource. We also considered entanglement teleportation via two two-qubit Heisenberg XY chains.
Quantum state on Bloch sphere for superconducting charge qubit, phase qubit and flux qubit for all time in absence of external drive is stable to initial state. By driving the qubits, approximation of charge and flux Hamiltonian lead to quantum state rotation in Bloch sphere around an axis completely differ from rotation vector of exact Hamiltonian. The trajectory of quantum state for phase qubit for approximated and exact Hamiltonian is the same but the expectation of quantum observable has considerable errors as two other qubits. microwave drive control is designed for approximated Hamiltoni…
We study the two qubits Heisenberg XX chain with magnetic impurity in the presence of the external magnetic field and calculate the optimal fidelity of standard teleportation via the thermal equilibrium state. It is found that the combined influence of magnetic impurity and external magnetic field can increase the critical temperatures of entanglement and quantum teleportation without limit. The relation between two kinds of critical temperatures is revealed.
We analyze conditions leading to enhancement of thermal entanglement in two-qubit XY models. The effect of including cross-product terms, besides the standard XY exchange interactions, in the presence of an external magnetic field, is investigated. We show that entanglement can be yield at elevated temperatures by tuning the orientation of the external magnetic field. The details of the intrinsic exchange interactions determine the optimal orientation.
We study the exact solution of the Schrödinger equation for the dissipative dynamics of a qubit, achieved by means of Short Iterative Lanczos method (SIL), which allows us to describe the qubit and the bath dynamics from weak to strong coupling regimes. We focus on two different models of a qubit in contact with the external environment: the first is the Spin Boson Model (SBM), which gives a description of the qubit in terms of static tunnelling energy and a bias field. The second model describes an externally driven qubit, where both the bias field and the tunnelling rate are controlled by a …
We study the influence of an external driving field on the coherence properties of a qubit under the influence of bit-flip noise. In the presence of driving, two paradigmatic cases are considered: (i) a field that results for a suitable choice of the parameters in so-called coherent destruction of tunneling and (ii) one that commutes with the static qubit Hamiltonian. In each case, we give for high-frequency driving a lower bound for the coherence time. This reveals the conditions under which the external fields can be used for coherence stabilization.

The interaction of a quantum system, which is not accessible by direct measurement, with an external probe can be exploited to infer specific features of the system itself. We introduce a probing scheme based on the emergence of spontaneous quantum synchronization between an out-of-equilibrium qubit, in contact with an external environment, and a probe qubit. Tuning the frequency of the probe leads to a transition between synchronization in phase and antiphase. The sharp transition between these two regimes is locally accessible by monitoring the probe dynamics alone and allows one to reconstr…
We quantify the total, quantum, and classical correlations with entropic measures, and quantitatively compare these correlations in a quantum system, as exemplified by a Heisenberg dimer which is subjected to the change of environmental parameters: temperature and nonuniform external field. Our results show that the quantum correlation may exceed the classical correlation at some nonzero temperatures, though the former is rather fragile than the later under thermal fluctuation. The effect of the external field to the classical correlation is quite different from the quantum correlation.
We describe a superconducting circuit consisting of a Josephson junction in parallel with a quantum phase slip wire, which implements a Hamiltonian that is periodic in both charge and flux. This Hamiltonian is exactly diagonalisable in a double-Bloch band, and the eigenstates are shown to be code states of the Gottesman-Kitaev-Preskill quantum error correcting code. The eigenspectrum has several critical points, where the linear sensitivity to external charge and flux noise vanishes. The states at these critical points thus hold promise as qubit states that are insensitive to external noise so…
We explore the possibility of the controlled manipulation of the entanglement of two qubits with an external apparatus, the Rabi Hamiltonian. The novel results show that the initially entangled two qubits could have very high probability to stay unchanged by the coherent state of the photon with chosen parameters. If the inter-qubit coupling strength is negative, their entanglement could be kept for a much longer time by a relatively strong external quantum control with the suitable and novel choice of some parameters. Furthermore, their entanglement will not show any sudden death and revival.…
Taking the decoherence effect due to population relaxation into account, we investigate the entanglement properties for two qubits in the Heisenberg XY interaction and subject to an external magnetic field. It is found that the phenomenon of entanglement sudden death (ESD) as well as sudden birth(ESB) appear during the evolution process for particular initial states. The influence of the external magnetic field and the spin environment on ESD and ESB are addressed in detail. It is shown that the concurrence, a measure of entanglement, can be controlled by tuning the parameters of the spin chai…
The establishment of a scalable scheme for quantum computing with addressable and long-lived qubits would be a scientific watershed, harnessing the laws of quantum physics to solve classically intractable problems. The design of many proposed quantum computational platforms is driven by competing needs: isolating the quantum system from the environment to prevent decoherence, and easily and accurately controlling the system with external fields. For example, neutral-atom optical-lattice architectures provide environmental isolation through the use of states that are robust against fluctuating …
We study the entanglement evolution of two coupled qubits in interaction with an external environment and in the presence of an external magnetic field with a stochastic component. The results show the expected degradation of entanglement due to the noise. The new effect is that the time of disentanglement depends in a non-monotonous way on the strength of the noise. We find that it is shortest for an intermediate strength value of the latter. This we call "stochastic anti-resonance". Our results could lead to a better undestanding of noisy perturbations and their role for optimal designing of…
We examine the non-stationary evolution of a coupled qubit-transmission line-resonator system coupled to an external drive and the resonator environment. By solving the equation for a non-stationary resonator field, we determined the requirements for a single-shot non-destructive dispersive measurement of the phase qubit state. Reliable isolation of the qubit from the "electromagnetic environment" is necessary for a dispersive readout and can be achieved if the whole system interacts with the external fields only through the resonator that is weakly coupled to the qubit. A set of inequalities …
The orthogonality time is examined for different initial states settings interacting locally with different types of spin interaction: $XX$, Ising and anisotropic models. It is shown that, the number of orthogonality increases, and consequently the time of orthogonality decreases as the environment qubits increase. The shortest time of orthogonality is displayed for the $XX$ chain model, while the largest time is shown for the Ising model. The external field increases the numbers of orthogonality, while Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya interaction decreases the time of orthogonality. The initial state set…
We study the dynamics of entanglement for the XY-model, one-dimensional spin systems coupled through nearest neighbor exchange interaction and subject to an external time-dependent magnetic field. Using the two-site density matrix, we calculate the time-dependent entanglement of formation between nearest neighbor qubits. We investigate the effect of varying the temperature, the anisotropy parameter and the external time-dependent magnetic field on the entanglement. We have found that the entanglement can be localized between nearest neighbor qubits for certain values of the external time-depen…
Proposals for quantum computing using rotational states of polar molecules as qubits have previously considered only diatomic molecules. For these the Stark effect is second-order, so a sizable external electric field is required to produce the requisite dipole moments in the laboratory frame. Here we consider use of polar symmetric top molecules. These offer advantages resulting from a first-order Stark effect, which renders the effective dipole moments nearly independent of the field strength. That permits use of much lower external field strengths for addressing sites. Moreover, for a parti…
We propose a pulsed dynamical decoupling protocol as the generator of tunable, fast, and robust quantum phase gates between two microwave-driven trapped ion hyperfine qubits. The protocol consists of sequences of $π$-pulses acting on ions that are oriented along an externally applied magnetic field gradient. In contrast to existing approaches, in our design the two vibrational modes of the ion chain cooperate under the influence of the external microwave driving to achieve significantly increased gate speeds. Our scheme is robust against the dominant noise sources, which are errors on the magn…
In an adiabatic rapid passage experiment, the Bloch vector of a two-level system (qubit) is inverted by slowly inverting an external field to which it is coupled, and along which it is initially aligned. In twisted rapid passage, the external field is allowed to twist around its initial direction with azimuthal angle $ϕ(t)$ at the same time that it is inverted. For polynomial twist: $ϕ(t) \sim Bt^{n}$. We show that for $n \geq 3$, multiple avoided crossings can occur during the inversion of the external field, and that these crossings give rise to strong interference effects in the qubit trans…
We demonstrate long-lived coherence in internal hyperfine states of a single \Ca{43} trapped-ion qubit $[T_2=1.2(2)\s]$, and in external motional states of a single \Ca{40} trapped-ion qubit $[T_2'=0.18(4)\s]$, in the same apparatus. The motional decoherence rate is consistent with the heating rate, which was measured to be 3(1) quanta/sec. Long coherence times in the external motional states are essential for performing high-fidelity quantum logic gates between trapped-ion qubits. The internal-state $T_2$ time that we observe in \Ca{43}, which has not previously been used as a trapped-ion qub…
We investigate the use of continuously-applied external fields to maximize the fidelity of quantum logic operations performed on a decohering qubit. Assuming a known error operator and an environment represented by a scalar boson field at a finite temperature, we show how decoherence during logical operations can be efficiently reduced by applying a superposition of two external vector fields: one rotating orthogonally to the direction of the other, which remains static. The required field directions, frequency of rotation and amplitudes to decouple noise dynamically are determined by the coup…
We present a scalable scheme for superconducting charge qubits with the assistance of one-dimensional superconducting transmission line resonator (STLR) playing the role of data bus. The coupling between qubit and data bus may be turned on and off by just controlling the gate voltage and externally applied flux of superconducting charge qubit. In our proposal, the entanglement between arbitrary two qubits and $W$ states of three qubits can be generated quickly and easily.
We characterize a superconducting qubit before and after embedding it along with its package in an absorptive medium. We observe a drastic improvement in the effective qubit temperature and over a tenfold improvement in the relaxation time up to 5.7 $μ$s. Our results suggest the presence of external radiation inside the cryogenic apparatus can be a limiting factor for both qubit initialization and coherence. We infer from simple calculations that relaxation is not limited by thermal photons in the sample prior to embedding, but by dissipation arising from quasiparticle generation.
Entropic uncertainty and entanglement are two distinct aspects of quantum mechanical procedures. To estimate entropic uncertainty relations, entropies are used: the greater the entropy bound, the less effective the quantum operations and entanglement are. In this regard, we analyze the entropic uncertainty, entropic uncertainty lower bound, and concurrence dynamics in two non-interacting qubits. The exposure of two qubits is studied in two different qubit-noise configurations, namely, common qubit-noise and independent qubit-noise interactions. To include the noisy effects of the local externa…
Multi-qubit quantum Rabi model, which is a fundamental model describing light-matter interaction, plays an important role in various physical systems. In this paper, we propose a theoretical method to simulate multi-qubit quantum Rabi model in a circuit quantum electrodynamics system. By means of external transversal and longitudinal driving fields, an effective Hamiltonian describing the multi-qubit quantum Rabi model is derived. The effective frequency of the resonator and the effective splitting of the qubits depend on the external driving fields. By adjusting the frequencies and the amplit…
We address how the non-local nature of the topological qubits, realized by Majorana modes and driven by an external magnetic field, can be used to control the non-Markovian dynamics of the system. It is also demonstrated that the non-local characteristic plays a key role in control and protection of quantum correlations between Majorana qubits. Moreover, we discuss how those non-local qubits help us to enhance quantum magnetometry.
We present an open loop (bang-bang) scheme to control decoherence in a generic one-qubit quantum gate and implement it in a realistic simulation. The system is consistently described within the spin-boson model, with interactions accounting for both adiabatic and thermal decoherence. The external control is included from the beginning in the Hamiltonian as an independent interaction term. After tracing out the environment modes, reduced equations are obtained for the two-level system in which the effects of both decoherence and external control appear explicitly. The controls are determined ex…
We study the violations of Bell inequality for thermal states of qubits in a multi-qubit Heisenberg model as a function of temperature and external magnetic fields. Unlike the behaviors of the entanglement the violation can not be obtained by increasing the temperature or the magnetic field. The threshold temperatures of the violation are found be less than that of the entanglement. We also consider a realistic cavity-QED model which is a special case of the mutli-qubit Heisenberg model.
We propose a theoretical protocol to create the entanglement of two qubits via the Born-Oppenheimer (BO) approximation. In our scheme, each qubit is coupled to a faster data bus whose frequency is much larger than the energy spacing of the qubits and thus the BO approximation is valid. Then the adiabatic separation of qubits from the data bus can induce an effective potential to couple the two qubits, which can be utilized to create a quantum logic gate. We also discuss the quantum decoherence caused by the adiabatic entanglement between the two qubits and the external field.
We propose a one-step scheme to implement a multiqubit controlled phase gate of one qubit simultaneously controlling multiple qubits with three-level atoms at distant nodes in coupled cavity arrays. The selective qubit-qubit couplings are achieved by adiabatically eliminating the atomic excited states and photonic states and the required phase shifts between the control qubit and any target qubit can be realized through suitable choices of the parameters of the external fields. Moreover, the effective model is robust against decoherence because neither the atoms nor the field modes during the …
We propose an alternative scheme to generate W state via optical state truncation using quantum scissors. In particular, these states may be generated through three-mode optical state truncation in a Kerr nonlinear coupler. The more general three-qubit state may be also produced if the system is driven by external classical fields.
