This paper revisits a homogenization problem studied by L. Tartar related to a tridimensional Stokes equation perturbed by a drift (connected to the Coriolis force). Here, a scalar equation and a two-dimensional Stokes equation with a $L^2$-bounded oscillating drift are considered. Under higher integrability conditions the Tartar approach based on the oscillations test functions method applies and leads to a limit equation with an extra zero-order term. When the drift is only assumed to be equi-integrable in $L^2$, the same limit behaviour is obtained. However, the lack of integrability makes difficult the direct use of the Tartar method. A new method in the context of homogenization theory is proposed. It is based on a parametrix of the Laplace operator which permits to write the solution of the equation as a solution of a fixed point problem, and to use truncated functions even in the vector-valued case. On the other hand, two counter-examples which induce different homogenized zero-order terms actually show the optimality of the equi-integrability assumption.
We target at the periodic homogenization of a semi-linear reaction-diffusion-convection system describing filtration combustion, where fast drifts affect the competition between heat and mass transfer processes as well as the interplay between the surface nonlinear chemical reactions and the transport processes. To handle the heterogeneity of the medium, we rely on the concept of two-scale convergence with drift to obtain for suitably scaled model parameters the upscaled system of combustion equations together with the effective transport and reaction parameters. The main difficulty here is to…
This paper investigates quantitative estimates in elliptic homogenization of non-divergence form with unbounded drift and an interface, which continues the study of the previous work by Hairer and Manson [Ann. Probab. 39(2011) 648-682], where they investigated the limiting long time/large scale behavior of such a process under diffusive rescaling. We determine the effective equation and obtain the size estimates of the gradient of Green functions as well as the optimal (in general) convergence rates. The proof relies on transferring the non-divergence form into the divergence-form with the coe…
We provide a simple proof of quenched stochastic homogenization for random environments with a mean zero, divergence-free drift under the assumption that the drift admits a stationary $L^d$-integrable stream matrix in $d\geq 3$ or an $L^{2+δ}$-integrable stream matrix in $d=2$. In addition, we prove that the environment almost surely satisfies a large-scale Hölder regularity estimate and first-order Liouville principle.
We prove that diffusion equations with a space-time stationary and ergodic, divergence-free drift homogenize in law to a deterministic stochastic partial differential equation with Stratonovich transport noise. In the absence of spatial ergodicity, the drift is only partially absorbed into the skew-symmetric part of the flux through the use of an appropriately defined stream matrix. This leaves a time-dependent, spatially-homogenous transport which, for mildly decorrelating fields, converges to a Brownian noise with deterministic covariance in the homogenization limit. The results apply to uni…
We consider a nonlinear drift-diffusion system for multiple charged species in a porous medium in 2D and 3D with periodic microstructure. The system consists of a transport equation for the concentration of the species and Poisson's equation for the electric potential. The diffusion terms depend nonlinearly on the concentrations. We consider non-homogeneous Neumann boundary condition for the electric potential. The aim is the rigorous derivation of an effective (homogenized) model in the limit when the scale parameter $ε$ tends to zero. This is based on uniform $\textit{a priori}$ estimates fo…
We study the question of periodic homogenization of a variably scaled reaction-diffusion problem with non-linear drift posed for a domain crossed by a flat composite thin layer. The structure of the non-linearity in the drift was obtained in earlier works as hydrodynamic limit of a totally asymmetric simple exclusion process (TASEP) process for a population of interacting particles crossing a domain with obstacle. Using energy-type estimates as well as concepts like thin-layer convergence and two-scale convergence, we derive the homogenized evolution equation and the corresponding effective mo…
The paper deals with the homogenization of a linear Boltzmann equation by the means of the sigma-convergence method. Under a general deterministic assumption on the coefficients of the equation, we prove that the density of the particles converges to a solution of a drift-diffusion equation. To achieve our goal, we use the Krein-Rutman theorem for locally convex spaces together with the Fredholm alternative to solve the so-called corrector problem.
We continue the program initiated in a previous work, of applying integro-differential methods to Neumann Homogenization problems. We target the case of linear periodic equations with a singular drift, which includes (with some regularity assumptions) divergence equations with \emph{non-co-normal} oscillatory Neumann conditions. Our analysis focuses on an induced integro-differential homogenization problem on the boundary of the domain. Also, we use homogenization results for regular Dirichlet problems to build barriers for the oscillatory Neumann problem with the singular gradient term. We no…
Rigorous Homogenization of a Stokes-Nernst-Planck-Poisson Problem for various Boundary Conditions
我们利用双尺度收敛方法对非定常Stokes-Nernst-Planck-Poisson系统进行周期均匀化(即$\eps\to 0$),其中$\eps$是一个合适的尺度参数.目的是研究微观偏微分方程组偏微分方程组的\textsl{different boundary conditions and variable choices of scalings in $\eps$}对极限模型方程结构的影响。由于基本方程的特定非线性耦合,当传递到静电漂移项的极限时必须特别注意。作为均匀化过程的直接结果,获得了各种类的放大模型方程。
In this paper we establish periodic homogenization for Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equations, associated to nonlocal operators of integro-differential type. We consider the case when the fractional diffusion has the same order as the drift term, and is weakly elliptic. The outcome of the paper is twofold. One one hand, we provide Lipschitz regularity results for weakly elliptic non-local HJB, extending the results previously obtained in [8]. On the other hand, we establish a convergence result, based on half relaxed limits and a comparison principle for the effective problem. The latter stro…
Pseudo-parabolic equations have been used to model unsaturated fluid flow in porous media. In this paper it is shown how a pseudo-parabolic equation can be upscaled when using a spatio-temporal decomposition employed in the Peszyn'ska-Showalter-Yi paper [8]. The spatial-temporal decomposition transforms the pseudo-parabolic equation into a system containing an elliptic partial differential equation and a temporal ordinary differential equation. To strengthen our argument, the pseudo-parabolic equation has been given advection/convection/drift terms. The upscaling is done with the technique of …
We consider the problem of essential self-adjointness of the drift-diffusion operator $H=-\frac{1}ρ\nabla\cdot ρ\mathbb D\nabla +V$ on domains $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^d$ with $\mathcal{C}^2$-boundary $\partial Ω$ and for large classes of coefficients $ρ,\; \mathbb{D}$ and $V$. We give criteria showing how the behavior as $x \rightarrow \partial Ω$ of these coefficients balances to ensure essential self-adjointness of $H$. On the way we prove a weak anisotropic Hardy inequality which is of independent interest.
We study a reaction-diffusion-convection problem with nonlinear drift posed in a domain with periodically arranged obstacles. The non-linearity in the drift is linked to the hydrodynamic limit of a totally asymmetric simple exclusion process (TASEP) governing a population of interacting particles crossing a domain with obstacle. Because of the imposed large drift scaling, this nonlinearity is expected to explode in the limit of a vanishing scaling parameter. As main working techniques, we employ two-scale formal homogenization asymptotics with drift to derive the corresponding upscaled model e…

Diffusion of particles through an heterogenous obstacle line is modeled as a two-dimensional diffusion problem with a one--directional nonlinear convective drift and is examined using two-scale asymptotic analysis. At the scale where the structure of heterogeneities is observable the obstacle line has an inherent thickness. Assuming the heterogeneity to be made of an array of periodically arranged microstructures (e.g. impenetrable solid rectangles), two scaling regimes are identified: the characteristic size of the microstructure is either significantly smaller than the thickness of the obsta…
We study the long-time dynamics of two-dimensional linear Fokker-Planck equations driven by a drift that can be decomposed in the sum of a large shear component and the gradient of a regular potential depending on one spatial variable. The problem can be interpreted as that of a passive scalar advected by a slightly compressible shear flow, and undergoing small diffusion. For the corresponding stochastic differential equation, we give explicit homogenization rates in terms of a family of time-scales depending on the parameter measuring the strength of the incompressible perturbation. This is a…
