The self-consistent quasiparticle RPA (SCQRPA) is constructed to study the effects of fluctuations on pairing properties in nuclei at finite temperature and z-projection M of angular momentum. Particle-number projection (PNP) is taken into account within the Lipkin-Nogami method. Several issues such as the smoothing of superfluid-normal phase transition, thermally assisted pairing in hot rotating nuclei, extraction of the nuclear pairing gap using an improved odd-even mass difference are discussed. A novel approach of embedding the PNP SCQRPA eigenvalues in the canonical and microcanonical ensembles is proposed and applied to describe the recent empirical thermodynamic quantities for iron, molybdenum, dysprosium, and ytterbium isotopes.
A finite rank separable approximation for the quasiparticle RPA with Skyrme interactions is applied to study the low lying quadrupole and octupole states in some S isotopes and giant resonances in some spherical nuclei. It is shown that characteristics calculated within the suggested approach are in a good agreement with available experimental data.
We discuss novel features of a new continuum RPA formulated in the coordinate-space Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov framework. This continuum quasiparticle RPA takes into account both the one- and two-particle escaping channels. The theory is tested with numerical calculations for monopole, dipole and quadrupole excitations in neutron-rich oxygen isotopes near the drip-line. Effects of the particle-particle RPA correlation caused by the pairing interaction are discussed in detail, and importance of the selfconsistent treatment is emphasized.
A finite rank separable approximation for the particle-hole RPA calculations with Skyrme interactions is extended to take into account the pairing. As an illustration of the method energies and transition probabilities for the quadrupole and octupole excitations in some O, Ar, Sn and Pb isotopes are calculated. The values obtained within our approach are very close to those that were calculated within QRPA with the full Skyrme interaction. They are in reasonable agreement with experimental data.
The Self-Consistent RPA (SCRPA) equations in the particle-particle channel are solved without any approximation for the picket fence model. The results are in excellent agreement with the exact solutions found with the Richardson method. Particularly interesting features are that screening corrections reverse the sign of the interaction and that SCRPA yields the exact energies in the case of two levels with two particles.
We propose a description of pairing properties in finite systems within the canonical and microcanonical ensembles. The approach is derived by solving the BCS and self-consistent quasiparticle random-phase approximation with the Lipkin-Nogami particle-number projection at zero temperature. The obtained eigenvalues are embedded into the canonical and microcanonical ensembles. The results obtained are found in quite good agreement with the exact solutions of the doubly-folded equidistant multilevel pairing model as well as the experimental data for $^{56}$Fe nucleus. The merit of the present app…
Particle-number projection within the Lipkin-Nogami (LN) method is applied to the self-consistent quasiparticle random-phase approximation (SCQRPA), which is tested in an exactly solvable multi-level pairing model. The SCQRPA equations are numerically solved to find the energies of the ground and excited states at various numbers $Ω$ of doubly degenerate equidistant levels. The use of the LN method allows one to avoid the collapse of the BCS (QRPA) to obtain the energies of the ground and excited states as smooth functions of the interaction parameter $G$. The comparison between results given …
Conclusions: (1) Calculations with an RPA correction added to the BCS pairing correction conventionally employed in Nilsson-Strutinskij calculations account well for the variation with A of the pattern of masses near N=Z. (2) The RPA correction is insignificant for reproducing the doubly even masses and hence for the shape of the Wigner cusp. (3) It is important, however, that the macroscopic (liquid drop) symmetry energy be proportional to T(T+1). (4) This form of the macroscopic symmetry energy is understood microscopically, in terms of the RPA, to result from the nuclear superfluidity. (5) …
Several approximations are tested by calculating the ground-state energy and the energy of the first excited $0^{+}$ state using an exactly solvable model with two symmetric levels interacting via a pairing force. They are the BCS approximation (BCS), Lipkin - Nogami (LN) method, random-phase approximation (RPA), quasiparticle RPA (QRPA), the renormalized RPA (RRPA), and renormalized QRPA (RQRPA). It is shown that, in the strong-coupling regime, the QRPA which neglects the scattering term of the model Hamiltonian offers the best fit to the exact solutions. A recipe is proposed using the RRPA a…
We revisit the long-standing problem of the superfluid transition temperature $T_c$ in dilute neutron matter. It is well known that $T_c$ is strongly affected by medium polarization effects (screening) which modify the pairing interaction in the medium. We study these effects within the random-phase approximation (RPA). It turns out that the widely used Landau approximation is sufficient only at densities below about 0.002 fm$^{-3}$. At higher densities, the full RPA leads to stronger screening than the Landau approximation.
The properties of the low-lying, collective 2+ states in neutron-rich oxygen isotopes are investigated in the framework of self-consistent microscopic models with effective Skyrme interactions. In RPA the excitation energies E2+ can be well described but the transition probabilities are much too small as compared to experiment. Pairing correlations are then accounted for by performing quasiparticle RPA calculations. This improves considerably the predictions of B(E2) values and it enables one to calculate more reliably the ratios Mn/Mp of neutron-to-proton transition amplitudes. A satisfactory…
The self-consistent separable RPA (random phase approximation) method is formulated for Skyrme forces with pairing. The method is based on a general self-consistent procedure for factorization of the two-body interaction. It is relevant for various density- and current-dependent functionals. The contributions of the time-even and time-odd Skyrme terms as well as of the Coulomb and pairing terms to the residual interaction are taken self-consistently into account. Most of the expression have a transparent analytical form, which makes the method convenient for the treatment and analysis. The sep…
We study the correlation energy associated with the pair fluctuations in BCS theory. We use a schematic two-level pairing model and discuss the behavior of the correlation energy across shell closures, including the even-odd differences. It is shown that the random phase approximation (RPA) to the ground state energy reproduces the exact solutions quite well both in the normal fluid and in the superfluid phases. In marked contrast, other methods to improve the BCS energies such as Lipkin-Nogami method, only work when the strength of a pairing interaction is large. We thus conclude that the RPA…
We investigate the RPA normal-mode coordinates in the pairing-plus-quadrupole model, with an eye on simplifying the application of large amplitude collective motion techniques. At the Hartree-Bogoliubov minimum, the RPA modes are exactly the cranking operators of the collective coordinate approach. We examine the possibility of representing the self-consistent cranking operator by linear combinations of a limited number of one-body operators. We study the Sm nuclei as an example, and find that such representations exist in terms of operators that are state-dependent in a characteristic manner.
We present a number conserving particle-hole RPA theory for collective excitations in the transition from normal to superfluid nuclei. The method derives from an RPA theory developed long ago in quantum chemistry using antisymmetric geminal powers, or equivalently number projected HFB states, as reference states. We show within a minimal model of pairing plus monopole interactions that the number conserving particle-hole RPA excitations evolve smoothly across the superfluid phase transition close to the exact results, contrary to particle-hole RPA in the normal phase and quasiparticle RPA in t…
In this study, we analyzed how the incident neutron current is affected by the pairing effect in the neutron-nucleus scattering described within the framework of Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov theory by performing numerical calculations in terms of current, vorticity, and circulation of the incident neutron current. We found that the pairing effect on the incident neutron flux is completely different between particle-type and hole-type quasiparticle resonances. In the case of h-type quasiparticle resonance, the pairing acts to prevent the neutron flux from entering the nucleus, reducing circulation. …
By introducing the intrinsic pair operators which commute with number fluctuation operator, a new formalism is given for the number-conserving description of the pairing correlations. The difficulty in the conventional RPA treatment for pairing rotation is removed.
We present a detailed discussion of the solution of Nambu-Gor'kov equations in superfluid nuclei, which provide a consistent framework to deal with the interplay between particle-hole and particle- particle channel, including the effects of the fragmentation of the quasiparticle strength and of the pairing interaction induced by the exchange of collective vibrations. The coupling between quasiparticle and vibrations is determined from the experimental polarizability of the low-lying collective surface vibrations. This coupling is used to renormalize the properties of quasiparticles obtained fr…
A model with nucleons in a charge-independent potential well interacting by an isovector pairing force is considered. For a 24-dimensional valence space, the Hartree-Bogolyubov (HB) plus random phase approximation (RPA) to the lowest eigenvalue of the Hamiltonian is shown to be accurate except near values of the pairing force coupling constant G where the HB solution shifts from a zero to a non-zero pair gap. In the limit G -> infinity the HB + RPA is asymptotically exact. The inaccuracy of the HB + RPA in the critical regions of G can be remedied by interpolation. The resulting algoritm is us…
As a model which displays a picture of the symmetry energy as an energy of rotation in isospace of a Cooper pair condensate, a Hamiltonian with a pairing force and an interaction of isospins is analyzed in the Hartree-Bogolyubov (HB) plus Random Phase (RPA) approximation. The HB energy minus Lagrangian multiplier terms is shown to be locally minimized by a product of neutron and proton Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer states. Nambu-Goldstone RPA solutions appear due to global gauge invariance and isobaric invariance. In an idealized case of infinitely many equidistant single-nucleon levels, the symme…
We investigate the possible signature of the presence of giant pairing states at excitation energy of about 10 MeV via two-particle transfer reactions induced by neutron-rich weakly-bound projectiles. Performing particle-particle RPA calculations on $^{208}$Pb and BCS+RPA calculations on $^{116}$Sn, we obtain the pairing strength distribution for two particles addition and removal modes. Estimates of two-particle transfer cross sections can be obtained in the framework of the 'macroscopic model'. The weak-binding nature of the projectile kinematically favours transitions to high-lying states. …
Self-Consistent Quasi-Particle RPA (SCQRPA) is for the first time applied to a more level pairing case. Various filling situations and values for the coupling constant are considered. Very encouraging results in comparison with the exact solution of the model are obtained. The nature of the low lying mode in SCQRPA is identified. The strong reduction of the number fluctuation in SCQRPA vs BCS is pointed out. The transition from superfluidity to the normal fluid case is carefully investigated.
The uncertainty in the nuclear matrix elements (NMEs) of $0νββ$ decay for $^{76}$Ge, $^{82}$Se, $^{128}$Te, $^{130}$Te, and $^{136}$Xe in the self-consistent quasiparticle random phase approximation (QRPA) method is investigated by using eighteen Skyrme interactions supplemented with either a volume- or surface-type of pairing interactions. The NMEs for the isotopes concerned (except $^{136}$Xe) are less sensitive to the particle-hole ($ph$) interactions, while strongly dependent on the employed isovector particle-particle ($pp$) pairing interactions even though the pairing strengths are optim…
An approach to pairing in finite nuclei at nonzero temperature is proposed, which incorporates the effects due to the quasiparticle-number fluctuation (QNF) around Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) mean field and dynamic coupling to quasiparticle-pair vibrations within the self-consistent quasiparticle random-phase approximation (SCQRPA). The numerical calculations of pairing gap, total energy, and heat capacity were carried out within a doubly folded multilevel model as well as realistic nuclei $^{56}$Fe and $^{120}$Sn. The results obtained show that, under the effect of QNF, in the region of m…
In the random-phase-approximation-amended (RPA-amended) Nilsson-Strutinskij method of calculating nuclear binding energies, the conventional shell correction terms derived from the independent-nucleon model and the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer pairing theory are supplemented by a term which accounts for the pair-vibrational correlation energy. This term is derived by means of the RPA from a pairing Hamiltonian which includes a neutron-proton pairing interaction. The method was used previously in studies of the pattern of binding energies of nuclei with approximately equal numbers $N$ and $Z$ of n…
We have introduced a separable pairing force, which was adjusted to reproduce the pairing properties of the Gogny force in nuclear matter. This separable pairing force is able to describe in relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov (RHB) calculations the pairing properties in the ground state of finite nuclei on almost the same footing as the original Gogny interaction. In this work we investigate excited states using the Relativistic Quasiparticle Random Phase Approximation (RQRPA) with the same separable pairing force. For consistency the Goldstone modes and the convergence with various cutoff parame…
The strength distributions of the isoscalar giant monopole resonance have been calculated in $^{16}$O, $^{40}$Ca, $^{90}$Zr, $^{112-124}$Sn, $^{144}$Sm, and $^{208}$Pb nuclei within the self-consistent random phase approximation and its extensions which include pairing correlations and quasiparticle-phonon coupling. The results are compared with the available experimental data. The problem of the nuclear matter incompressibility is discussed.
A particle-vibration coupling calculation based on the RPA and the cranked shell model has been carried out for superdeformed rotational bands in $^{193}$Hg. The result suggests that properties of single-particle motions in superdeformed nuclei may be significantly affected by coupling effects with low-frequency octupole vibrational modes, especially by the lowest $K=2$ octupole mode.
The dynamical effects of ground state correlations for excitation energies and transition strengths near the superfluid phase transition are studied in the soluble two level pairing model, in the context of the particle-particle self consistent Random Phase Approximation (SCRPA). Exact results are well reproduced across the transition region, beyond the collapse of the standard particle-particle Random Phase Approximation. The effects of two-body correlation in the SCRPA are displayed explicitly.
The consistency condition is tested within the particle-particle random-phase approximation (RPA), renormalized RPA (RRPA) and the self-consistent RPA (SCRPA) making use of the Richardson model of pairing. The two-particle separation energy is calculated in two ways, namely as the energy of the first addition mode, which adds two particles to a core with N particles, and as the energy of the first removal mode, which removes two particles from the (N+2) - particle system to get back to the same N-particle core. The corresponding transitions generated by the pairing operators are also calculate…
We formulate the self-consistent separable random-phase-approximation (SRPA) method and specify it for Skyrme forces with pairing for the case of axially symmetric deformed nuclei. The factorization of the residual interaction allows to avoid diagonalization of high-rank RPA matrices, which dramatically reduces the computational expense. This advantage is crucial for the systems with a huge configuration space, first of all for deformed nuclei. SRPA takes self-consistently into account the contributions of both time-even and time-odd Skyrme terms as well as of the Coulomb force and pairing. Th…
A fully self-consistent renormalized random-phase approximation is constructed based on the self-consistent Hartree-Fock mean field plus exact pairing solutions (EP). This approach exactly conserves the particle number and restores the energy-weighted sum rule, which is violated in the conventional renormalized particle-hole random-phase approximation for a given multipolarity. The numerical calculations are carried out for several light, medium, and heavy-mass nuclei such as $^{22}$O, $^{60}$Ni, and $^{90}$Zr by using an effective MSk3 interaction. To study the pygmy dipole resonance (PDR), t…
Using an exactly solvable pairing model Hamiltonian in the static path approximation together with small-amplitude quantal fluctuation corrections in random phase approximation (SPA+RPA), we have analyzed the behaviour of canonical (number projected) and grandcanonical treatments of nuclear level densities as a function of temperature and number of particles. For small particle numbers at a low temperature, we find that though the grandcanonical partition function in SPA+RPA approach is quite close to its exact value, the small errors in its estimation causes significant suppression of level d…
A method based on the consistent use of the Green function formalism has been developed to calculate the distribution of the single-particle strength in odd nuclei with pairing. The method takes into account the quasiparticle-phonon interaction, ground state correlations and a "refinement" of phenomenological single-particle energies and pairing gap values from the quasiparticle-phonon interaction under consideration. The calculations for 121Sn and 119Sn that were performed in the quasiparticle$\otimes$phonon approximation, have shown a reasonable agreement with experiment. The ground state co…
Role of pairing correlation for emergence of low-frequency vibrational excitations in neutron drip line nuclei is discussed paying special attention to neutrons with small orbital angular momentum l. Self-consistent pairing correlation in the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) theory causes the change of the spatial structure of the quasiparticle wave functions; "the pairing anti-halo effect" in the lower component and "the broadening effect" in the upper component. The resultant spatial distribution of the two-quasiparticle states among low-l neutrons, "the broad localization", brings about qualit…
The partition function by means of the static path approximation (SPA) plus the random-phase approximation (RPA) treatment can be written as a contour integral form without solving the RPA equations for a separable interaction. This method is an efficient way to evaluate numerically the partition function for realistic calculations. As an illustration, we adopt the pairing model at finite temperature.
In order to analyse the role of the quasiparticle-phonon interaction in the origin of nuclear gap, we applied an approach which is similar to the Eliashberg theory for usual superconductors. We obtained that the averaged contribution of the quasiparticle-phonon mechanism to the observed value of the pairing gap for $^{120}$Sn is 26% and the BCS-type mechanism gives 74% . Thus, pairing is of a mixed nature at least in semi-magic nuclei -- it is due to the quasiparticle-phonon and BCS mechanisms, the first one being mainly a surface mechanism and the second one mainly a volume mechanism. The cal…
We have calculated the strength distributions of the dipole response in spherical nuclei, ranging all over the periodic table. The calculations were performed within two microscopic models: the discretized quasiparticle random phase approximation (QRPA) and the quasiparticle continuum RPA, which takes into account the coupling of the single-particle continuum in an exact way. Pairing correlations are treated with the BCS model. In the calculations, two density functionals were used, namely the functional PC-F1 and the functional DD-PC1. Both are based on relativistic point coupling Lagrangians…
Low-frequency $K^π=0^{+}$ states in deformed neutron-rich nuclei are investigated by means of the quasiparticle-random-phase approximation based on the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov formalism in the coordinate space. We have obtained the very strongly collective $K^π=0^{+}$ modes not only in neutron-rich Mg isotope but also in Cr and Fe isotopes in N=40 region, where the onset of nuclear deformation has been discussed. It is found that the spatially extended structure of neutron quasiparticle wave functions around the Fermi level brings about a striking enhancement of the transition strengths. It is…
The properties of the pairing interaction in the shell model framework are considered with the aid of the exact numerical solution utilizing the quasispin symmetry. We emphasize the features which are out of reach for the usual approximate techniques based on the BCS approach supplemented by the random phase approximation treatment of pair vibrations, especially in the region of weak pairing where the BCS+RPA theory fails. For the first time chaotic aspects of the mixing generated by the pairing interaction are studied. The level repulsion and large information entropy of the eigenstates coexi…
Important features of low-frequency collective vibrational excitations in neutron drip line nuclei are studied. We emphasize that pairing anti-halo effect in the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) theory play crucial roles to realize collective motions in loosely bound nuclei. We study the spatial properties of one particle - one hole (1p-1h) states with/without selfconsistent pairing correlations by solving simplified HF(B) equations in coordinate space. Next, by performing Skyrme-HFB plus selfconsistent quasiparticle random phase approximation (QRPA) we investigate the first 2+ states in neutron …
The first 2+ states in N=20 isotones including neutron-rich nuclei 32Mg and 30Ne are studied by the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov plus quasiparticle random phase approximation method based on the Green's function approach. The residual interaction between the quasiparticles is consistently derived from the hamiltonian density of Skyrme interactions with explicit velocity dependence. The B(E2) transition probabilities and the excitation energies of the first 2+ states are well described within a single framework. We conclude that pairing effects account largely for the anomalously large B(E2) value a…
Isoscalar dipole strength distributions in spherical medium- and heavy-mass nuclei are calculated within random phase approximation (RPA) or quasiparticle RPA. Different Skyrme-type interactions corresponding to incompressibilities in the range 200 - 250 MeV are used. The results are discussed in comparison with existing data on isoscalar giant dipole resonances. Two main issues are raised, firstly the calculated giant resonance energies are somewhat higher than the observed ones, and secondly a sizable fraction of strength is predicted below 20 MeV which needs to be experimentally confirmed.
The collective excitation phenomena in atomic nuclei are studied in two different formulations of the Random Phase Approximation (RPA): (i) RPA based on correlated realistic nucleon-nucleon interactions constructed within the Unitary Correlation Operator Method (UCOM), and (ii) relativistic RPA (RRPA) derived from effective Lagrangians with density-dependent meson-exchange interactions. The former includes the dominant interaction-induced short-range central and tensor correlations by means of an unitary transformation. It is shown that UCOM-RPA correlations induced by collective nuclear vibra…
We analyze the properties of the scattering solutions obtained as the pole of the S- and K-matrix with the help of the Jost function framework and the Strum-Liouville theory within the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov(HFB) framework, and clarify the scattering solutions which can be defined as the physical state. We found that there are three types of the resonances; "{\it shape resonance}", "{\it particle-type}" and "{\it hole-type quasiparticle resonances}", and another two types of solutions are given as the independent S-matrix and K-matrix poles. The shape resonance is formed by the Hartree-Fock(H…
A systematic comparison is conducted for pairing properties of finite systems at nonzero temperature as predicted by the exact solutions of the pairing problem embedded in three principal statistical ensembles, as well as the unprojected (FTBCS1+SCQRPA) and Lipkin-Nogami projected (FTLN1+SCQRPA) theories that include the quasiparticle number fluctuation and coupling to pair vibrations within the self-consistent quasiparticle random-phase approximation. The numerical calculations are performed for the pairing gap, total energy, heat capacity, entropy, and microcanonical temperature within the d…
We present an extension of the pair coupled cluster doubles (p-CCD) method to quasiparticles and apply it to the attractive pairing Hamiltonian. Near the transition point where number symmetry gets spontaneously broken, the proposed BCS-based p-CCD method yields significantly better energies than existing methods when compared to exact results obtained via solution of the Richardson equations. The quasiparticle p-CCD method has a low computational cost of $\mathcal{O}(N^3)$ as a function of system size. This together with the high quality of results here demonstrated, points to considerable pr…
Stimulated by the still puzzling competition between spin-singlet and spin-triplet pairing in nuclei, the 3SD1 neutron-proton pairing is investigated in the framework of BCS theory of nuclear matter. The medium polarization effects are included in the single particle spectrum and also in the pairing interaction starting from the G-matrix, calculated in the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock approximation. The vertex corrections due to spin and isospin collective excitations of the medium are determined from the Bethe-Salpeter equation in the RPA limit, taking into account the tensor correlations. It is fo…
We study the properties of the superdeformed (SD) bands of 195Pb and 193Hg by the cranked Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov method. Our calculations reproduce the flat behavior of the dynamical moment of inertia of two of the SD bands of 195Pb measured recently. We discuss possible configuration assignments for the observed bands 3 and 4 of 195Pb. We also calculate the two interacting SD bands of 193Hg. Our analysis confirms the superiority of a density-dependent pairing force over a seniority pairing interaction.
Nuclear pairing properties are studied within an approach that includes the quasiparticle-number fluctuation (QNF) and coupling to the quasiparticle-pair vibrations at finite temperature and angular momentum. The formalism is developed to describe non-collective rotations about the symmetry axis. The numerical calculations are performed within a doubly-folded equidistant multilevel model as well as several realistic nuclei. The results obtained for the pairing gap, total energy and heat capacity show that the QNF smoothes out the sharp SN phase transition and leads to the appearance of a therm…
We have calculated the strength distributions of the giant monopole resonance in the even-A tin isotopes (A = 112-124) which were recently measured in inelastic $α$-scattering. The calculations were performed within two microscopic models: the quasiparticle random phase approximation (QRPA) and the quasiparticle time blocking approximation which is an extension of the QRPA including quasiparticle-phonon coupling. We used a self-consistent calculational scheme based on the HF+BCS approximation. The single-particle continuum was exactly included on the RPA level. The self-consistent mean field a…
An approach is proposed to nuclear pairing at finite temperature and angular momentum, which includes the effects of the quasiparticle-number fluctuation and dynamic coupling to pair vibrations within the self-consistent quasiparticle random-phase approximation. The numerical calculations of pairing gaps, total energies, and heat capacities are carried out within a doubly folded multilevel model as well as several realistic nuclei. The results obtained show that, in the region of moderate and strong couplings, the sharp transition between the superconducting and normal phases is smoothed out, …
The relation between two approaches to the su(2)-algebraic many-fermion model is discussed: (1) the BCS-Bogoliubov approach in terms of the use of the quasiparticles representing all the degrees of freedom except those related to the Cooper-pairs and (2) the conventional algebraic approach in terms of the use of the minimum weight states, from which the Cooper-pairs are excluded. In order to arrive at the goal, the idea of the quasiparticles is brought up in the conservation of the fermion number. Under the c-number replacement for the three su(2)-generators, the quasiparticles suggested in th…
Nuclear state densities are important inputs to statistical models of compound-nucleus reactions. State densities are often calculated with self-consistent mean-field approximations that do not include important correlations and have to be augmented with empirical collective enhancement factors. Here, we benchmark the static-path plus random-phase approximation (SPA+RPA) to the state density in a chain of samarium isotopes $^{148-155}$Sm against exact results (up to statistical errors) obtained with the shell model Monte Carlo (SMMC) method. The SPA+RPA method incorporates all static fluctuati…
A self-consistent version of the Thermal Random Phase Approximation (TSCRPA) is developed within the Matsubara Green's Function (GF) formalism. The TSCRPA is applied to the many level pairing model. The normal phase of the system is considered. The TSCRPA results are compared with the exact ones calculated for the Grand Canonical Ensemble. Advantages of the TSCRPA over the Thermal Mean Field Approximation (TMFA) and the standard Thermal Random Phase Approximation (TRPA) are demonstrated. Results for correlation functions, excitation energies, single particle level densities, etc., as a functio…

We study collective excitations in a superfluid neutron gas at zero temperature within the quasiparticle random phase approximation. The particle-hole residual interaction is obtained from a Skyrme functional, while a separable interaction is used in the pairing channel which gives a realistic density dependence of the pairing gap. In accordance with the Goldstone theorem, we find an ungapped collective mode (analogous to the Bogoliubov-Anderson mode). At low momentum, its dispersion relation is approximately linear and its slope coincides with the hydrodynamic speed of sound calculated with t…
Allowed weak interaction rates for sd-shell nuclei in stellar environment are calculated using a generalized form of proton-neutron quasiparticle RPA model with separable Gamow-Teller forces. Twelve different weak rates are calculated for each nucleus as a function of temperature and density. This project consists of calculation of weak rates for a total of 709 nuclei with masses ranging from A = 18 to 100. This paper contains calculated weak rates for sd-shell nuclei. The calculated capture and decay rates take into consideration the latest experimental energy levels and ft value compilations…
We have proposed in a series of previous papers a method to determine the effective axial-vector current coupling and the strength of the isoscalar proton-neutron pairing interaction for calculating the nuclear matrix elements of the neutrinoless double-$β$ decay by the quasiparticle random-phase approximation. The combination of these two parameters have had an uncertainty in this approach, but now this uncertainty is removed. In this paper, we apply our method to the neutrinoless double-$β$ decays of $^{136}$Xe and $^{130}$Te and predict the nuclear matrix elements and reduced half-lives. Ou…
