Nuclear pairing properties are studied within an approach that includes the quasiparticle-number fluctuation (QNF) and coupling to the quasiparticle-pair vibrations at finite temperature and angular momentum. The formalism is developed to describe non-collective rotations about the symmetry axis. The numerical calculations are performed within a doubly-folded equidistant multilevel model as well as several realistic nuclei. The results obtained for the pairing gap, total energy and heat capacity show that the QNF smoothes out the sharp SN phase transition and leads to the appearance of a thermally assisted pairing gap in rotating nuclei at finite temperature. The corrections due to the dynamic coupling to SCQRPA vibrations and particle-number projection are analyzed. The effect of backbending of the momentum of inertia as a function of squared angular velocity is also discussed.
Rotational motion of heated 72-Ge is studied within the microscopic Shell Model Monte Carlo approach. We investigate the the angular momentum alignment and nuclear pairing correlations associated with J-pi Cooper pairs as a function of the rotational frequency and temperature. The reentrance of pairing correlations with temperature is predicted at high rotational frequencies. It manifests itself through the anomalous behavior of specific heat and level density.
Finite temperature Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov calculations are performed in Sn isotopes using Skyrme and zero-range, density-dependent pairing interactions. For both stable and very neutron-rich nuclei the critical temperature at which pairing correlations vanish is independent of the volume/surface nature of the pairing interaction. The value of the critical temperature follows approximatively the empirical rule T$_c$ $\simeq$ 0.5 $Δ_{T=0}$ for all the calculated isotopes, showing that the critical temperature could be deduced from the pairing gap at zero temperature. On the other hand, the pair…
A systematic investigation of the rotating $N=Z$ even-even nuclei in the mass $A=58-80$ region has been performed within the frameworks of the Cranked Relativistic Mean field, Cranked Relativistic Hartree Bogoliubov theories and cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky approach. Most of the experimental data is well accounted for in the calculations. The present study suggests that there is strong isovector $np$-pair field at low spin, the strength of which is defined by the isospin symmetry. At high spin, the isovector pair field is destroyed and the data are well described by the calculations assuming zer…
The present paper establishes a link between pairing correlations in rotating nuclei and collective vortical modes in the intrinsic frame. We show that the latter can be embodied by a simple S-type coupling a la Chandrasekhar between rotational and intrinsic vortical collective modes. This results from a comparison between the solutions of microscopic calculations within the HFB and the HF Routhian formalisms. The HF Routhian solutions are constrained to have the same Kelvin circulation expectation value as the HFB ones. It is shown in several mass regions, pairing regimes, and for various spi…
The pairing gaps, heat capacities and level densities are calculated within the BCS-based quasiparticle approach including the effect of thermal fluctuations on the pairing field within the pairing model plus noncollective rotation along the z axis for $^{60}$Ni and $^{72}$Ge nuclei. The analysis of the numerical results obtained shows that, in addition to the pairing gap, the heat capacity can also serve as a good observable to detect the appearance of the pairing reentrance in hot rotating nuclei, whereas such signature in the level density is rather weak.
Rapidly rotating nuclei provide us good testing grounds to study the pairing correlations; in fact, the transition from the superfluid to the normal phase is realized at high-spin states. The role played by the pairing correlations is quite different in these two phases: The static (BCS like mean-field) contribution is dominant in the superfluid phase, while the dynamic fluctuations beyond the mean-field approximation are important in the normal phase. The influence of the pairing fluctuations on the high-spin rotational spectra and moments of inertia is discussed.
The superdeformation (SD) in non-rotating states is studied with the HF+BCS method using the Skyrme interaction. In applying the BCS theory, the seniority pairing force is employed, of which strengths are determined in order to reproduce the empirical pairing gap formula, $\barΔ = 12 A^{-1/2}$ MeV, through a smooth level density obtained in the Thomas-Fermi approximation. Properties of superdeformation are investigated by calculating potential energy surfaces (PES) for various sets of the pairing force strengths and the Skyrme force parameter for 194Hg and 236,238U. The best results are obtain…
Previous studies have indicated that the peak of the quarkonium entropy at the deconfinement transition can be related to the entropic force which would induce the dissociation of heavy quarkonium. In this paper, we study the entropic force in a rotating hot and dense medium using AdS/CFT correspondence. It turns out that the inclusion of angular velocity increases the entropic force thus enhancing quarkonium dissociation, while chemical potential has the same effect. Furthermore, the results imply that the quarkonium dissociates easier in rotating medium compared to static case.
Pairing reentrance phenomenon in the warm rotating $^{104}$Pd nucleus is studied within the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS)-based approach (the FTBCS1). The theory takes into account the effect of quasiparticle number fluctuations on the pairing field at finite temperature and angular momentum within the pairing model plus noncollective rotation along the symmetry axis. The numerical calculations for the pairing gaps and nuclear level densities (NLD), of which an anomalous enhancement has been experimentally observed at low excitation energy $E^*$ and high angular momentum $J$, show that the p…
Temperature and angular momentum induced shape changes in the well deformed 100 Nb have been investigated within the theoretical framework of Statistical theory combined with triaxially deformed Nilson potential and Strutinsky prescription. Two shape coexistence, one in the ground state of 104 Nb between oblate and triaxial shapes and another one between oblate and rarely seen prolate non-collective shapes in excited hot rotating 100 Nb at the mid spin values around 14-16h are reported for the first time. The level density parameter indicates the influence of the shell effects and changes dras…
For the first time, the tilted axis cranking covariant density functional theory with pairing correlations has been formulated and implemented in a fully self-consistent and microscopic way to investigate the evolution of the spin axis and the pairing effects in rotating triaxial nuclei. The measured energy spectrum and transition probabilities for the Nd-135 yrast band are reproduced well without any ad hoc renormalization factors when pairing effects are taken into account. A transition from collective to chiral rotation has been demonstrated. It is found that pairing correlations introduce …
The hot nucleus $^{162}\mathrm{Dy}$ is investigated using covariant density functional theory, where the shell-model-like approach treats the pairing correlation. Lee-Yang's theorem is applied to classify the pairing phase transition by analyzing the distribution of zeros of the partition function in the complex temperature plane. The distribution of zeros of the partition function converges with increasing particle numbers and illustrates the characteristics of the phase transition. In our calculations, we determine the first order of the phase transition near the critical temperature. Differ…
We study the systematics of the giant dipole resonance width $Γ$ in hot rotating nuclei as a function of temperature $T$, spin $J$ and mass $A$. We compare available experimental results with theoretical calculations that include thermal shape fluctuations in nuclei ranging from A=45 to A=208. Using the appropriate scaled variables, we find a simple phenomenological function $Γ(A,T,J)$ which approximates the global behavior of the giant dipole resonance width in the liquid drop model. We reanalyze recent experimental and theoretical results for the resonance width in Sn isotopes and $^{208}$Pb…

The fusion process and the competition between fission and n, p and alpha-particle emission is studied. The calculations are performed for nuclei at excitation energies from 80 MeV up to about 300 MeV. The nuclear fission is described by a Langevin equation coupled to the Master equation for particle evaporation. A significant influence of the initial spin distribution on the prescission particles multiplicities is found.
The pairing correlations in hot nuclei $^{162}$Dy are investigated in terms of the thermodynamical properties by covariant density functional theory. The heat capacities $C_V$ are evaluated in the canonical ensemble theory and the paring correlations are treated by a shell-model-like approach, in which the particle number is conserved exactly. A S-shaped heat capacity curve, which agrees qualitatively with the experimental data, has been obtained and analyzed in details. It is found that the one-pair-broken states play crucial roles in the appearance of the S shape of the heat capacity curve. …
The dependence of the transmission coefficient on the deformation, the collective rotation and excitation energy of the compound nucleus emitting light particles is introduced in the framework of Weißkopf's evaporation theory. The competition between fission and particle evaporation is treated by a~Langevin equation for the fission variable coupled to the emission process. Detailed calculations are presented on the decay of different Gd and Yb isotopes at an excitation energy of about 250~MeV. These calculations demonstrate the importance of the effects of nuclear deformation and of the initia…
Employing a cranking Hamiltonian, in the static path approximation to the partition function, we have studied the behaviour of the moment of inertia of $^{64}Zn$ at a few values of temperatures as a function of the rotation frequency. At a low temperature T = 0.5 MeV and J=16 rotational alignment of $0g_{9/2}$ orbitals takes place. But at a high temperature T = 2.0 MeV about 40 - 45$\%$ of all the angular momenta are generated by the alignment of the same orbitals. This should imply a decrease in collectivity for all the spins at high temperatures.
The rotating nuclei represent one of most interesting subjects for theoretical and experimental studies. They open a new dimension of nuclear landscape, namely, spin direction. Contrary to the majority of nuclear systems, their properties sensitively depend on time-odd mean fields and currents in density functional theories. Moreover, they show a considerable interplay of collective and single-particle degrees of freedom. In this chapter, I discuss the basic features of the description of rotating nuclei in one-dimensional cranking approximation of covariant density functional theory. The succ…
Evaporation residue cross-sections are calculated in a dynamical description of nuclear fission in the framework of the Langevin equation coupled with statistical evporation of light particles. A theoretical model of one-body nuclear friction which was developed earlier, namely the chaos-weighted wall formula, is used in this calculation for the 224Th nucleus. The evaporation residue cross-section is found to be very sensitive to the choice of nuclear friction. The present results indicate that the chaotic nature of the single-particle dynamics within the nuclear volume may provide an explanat…
The subtle interplay between the two nuclear superfluids, isovector T=1 and isoscalar T=0 phases, are investigated in an exactly soluble model. It is shown that T=1 and T=0 pair-modes decouple in the exact calculations with the T=1 pair-energy being independent of the T=0 pair-strength and vice-versa. In the rotating-field, the isoscalar correlations remain constant in contrast to the well known quenching of isovector pairing. An increase of the isoscalar (J=1, T=0) pair-field results in a delay of the bandcrossing frequency. This behaviour is shown to be present only near the N=Z line and its…
The thermodynamics of pairing phase-transition in nuclei is studied in the canonical ensemble and treating the pairing correlations in a finite-temperature variation after projection BCS approach (FT-VAP). Due to the restoration of particle number conservation, the pairing gap and the specific heat calculated in the FT-VAP approach vary smoothly with the temperature, indicating a gradual transition from the superfluid to the normal phase, as expected in finite systems. We have checked that the predictions of the FT-VAP approach are very accurate when compared to the results obtained by an exac…
Pairing correlations in rotating nuclei are discussed within the Lipkin-Nogami method. The accuracy of the method is tested for the Krumlinde-Szymański R(5) model. The results of calculations are compared with those obtained from the standard mean field theory and particle-number projection method, and with exact solutions.
Using Chandrasekhar's S-type coupling between rotational and intrinsic vortical modes one may simply reproduce the HFB dynamical properties of rotating nuclei within Routhian HF calculations free of pairing correlations yet constrained on the relevant so-called Kelvin circulation operator. From the analogy between magnetic and rotating systems, one derives a model for the quenching of pairing correlations with rotation, introducing a critical angular velocity -- analogous to the critical field in supraconductors -- above which pairing vanishes. Taking stock of this usual model, it is then show…
Thermal fluctuations of quasiparticle number are included making use of the secondary Bogolyubov's transformation, which turns quasiparticles operators into modified-quasiparticle ones. This restores the unitarity relation for the generalized single-particle density operator, which is violated within the Hartree-Fock-Bogolyubov (HFB) theory at finite temperature. The resulting theory is called the modified HFB (MHFB) theory, whose limit of a constant pairing interaction yields the modified BCS (MBCS) theory. Within the MBCS theory, the pairing gap never collapses at finite temperature T as it …
The development of nuclear shapes under the extreme conditions of high spin and/or temperature is examined. Scaling properties are used to demonstrate universal properties of both thermal expectation values of nuclear shapes as well as the minima of the free energy, which can be used to understand the Jacobi transition. A universal correlation between the width of the giant dipole resonance and quadrupole deformation is found, providing a novel probe to measure the nuclear deformation in hot nuclei.
Rotating $N=Z$ nuclei in the mass $A=58-80$ region have been studied within the framework of isovector mean field theory. Available data is well and systematically described in the calculations. The present study supports the presence of strong isovector $np$ pair field at low spin, which is, however, destroyed at high spin. No clear evidence for the existence of the isoscalar $t=0$ $np$ pairing has been found.
The self-consistent quasiparticle RPA (SCQRPA) is constructed to study the effects of fluctuations on pairing properties in nuclei at finite temperature and z-projection M of angular momentum. Particle-number projection (PNP) is taken into account within the Lipkin-Nogami method. Several issues such as the smoothing of superfluid-normal phase transition, thermally assisted pairing in hot rotating nuclei, extraction of the nuclear pairing gap using an improved odd-even mass difference are discussed. A novel approach of embedding the PNP SCQRPA eigenvalues in the canonical and microcanonical ens…
Several global parameters of compact stars are related via empirical relations, which are (nearly) independent of the underlying equation of state (EoS) of dense matter and, therefore, are said to be universal. We investigate the universality of relations that express the maximum mass and the radius of non-rotating and maximally rapidly rotating configurations, as well as their moment of inertia, in terms of the compactness of the star. For this, we first utilize a collection of cold (zero-temperature) and hot (isentropic) nucleonic EoS and confirm that the universal relations are holding for …
The phonon damping model (PDM) is extended to include the effect of angular momentum at finite temperature. The model is applied to the study of damping of giant dipole resonance (GDR) in hot and noncollectively rotating spherical nuclei. The numerical results obtained for Mo88 and Sn106 show that the GDR width increases with both temperature T and angular momentum M. At T > 4 MeV and M<= 60 hbar the increase in the GDR width slows down for Sn106, whereas at M<= 80 hbar the GDR widths in both nuclei nearly saturate. By adopting the nuclear shear viscosity extracted from fission data at T= 0, i…
An approach is proposed to nuclear pairing at finite temperature and angular momentum, which includes the effects of the quasiparticle-number fluctuation and dynamic coupling to pair vibrations within the self-consistent quasiparticle random-phase approximation. The numerical calculations of pairing gaps, total energies, and heat capacities are carried out within a doubly folded multilevel model as well as several realistic nuclei. The results obtained show that, in the region of moderate and strong couplings, the sharp transition between the superconducting and normal phases is smoothed out, …
We discuss the effect of rapid rotation on the phase diagram of hadronic matter. The energy dispersion relation is shifted by an effective chemical potential induced by rotation. This suggests that rotation should lower the critical temperature of chiral restoration, but it is still controversial how the deconfinement temperature should change as a function of angular velocity. We adopt the hadron resonance gas model as an approach free from fitting parameters. We identify the deconfinement from the thermodynamic behavior and find that rotation decreases the deconfinement temperature. We also …
Pair correlations are described in the framework of the HFB approximation applied to a uniformly rotating system (Cranking model). The reduction of the moments of inertia, the classification of rotational bands as multi quasiparticle configurations, and the signatures of the rotation induced transition to the unpaired state are discussed.
Using a current-current correlation function (CF), the photon polarization tensor is calculated for a rotating hot and dense QCD medium. The spectral function (SF) and the dilepton rate (DR) are estimated therefrom. Numerical results show that both SF and DR are enhanced in a rotating medium, especially in a low invariant mass region. SF and DR are also explored in the consequences of the interplay among the angular velocity, temperature and chemical potential. We also estimated the electromagnetic screening by calculating the Debye mass and it shows a suppression for a rotating QCD medium. Th…
Cranked Relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory without and with approximate particle number projection by means of the Lipkin-Nogami method is presented in detail as an extension of Relativistic Mean Field theory with pairing correlations to the rotating frame. Pairing correlations are taken into account by a finite range two-body force of Gogny type. The applicability of this theory to the description of rotating nuclei is studied in detail on the example of superdeformed bands in even-even nuclei of the $A\sim 190$ mass region. Different aspects such as the importance of pairing and particle…
The specific shear viscosity $\barη$ of a classically rotating system of nucleons that interact via a monopole pairing interaction is calculated including the effects of thermal fluctuations and coupling to pair vibrations within the selfconsistent quasiparticle random-phase approximation. It is found that $\barη$ increases with angular momentum $M$ at a given temperature $T$. In medium and heavy systems, $\barη$ decreases with increasing $T$ at $T\geq$ 2 MeV and this feature is not affected much by angular momentum. But in lighter systems (with the mass number $A\leq$ 20), $\barη$ increases w…
The hot nucleus $^{171}$Yb is investigated by the covariant density functional theory with the PC-PK1 effective interaction. The thermodynamic quantities are evaluated with the canonical ensemble theory. The pairing correlations is treated by the shell-model-like approach, in which the particle numbers are conserved strictly and in which the blocking effect is handled exactly. An S-shaped heat capacity versus temperature of $^{171}$Yb appears. It has been studied in terms of the blocking effect, the single-particle levels, the pairing gap, and defined seniority components, and compared to the …
The prediction of the equation of state of hot, dense nuclear matter is one of the most complicated and interesting problems in nuclear astrophysics. At the same time, knowledge of it is the basic ingredient for some of the most interesting studies. In the present work, we concentrate our study on the construction of the equation of state of hot, dense nuclear matter, related mainly to the interior of the neutron star. We employ a theoretical nuclear model, which includes momentum-dependent interaction among the nucleons, along with the \textit{state-of-the-art} microscopic calculations. Therm…
The hot rotating nuclei could be formed in the complete and incomplete fusion reaction of two heavy ions. At low bombarding energies the reaction goes via compound nucleus formation and subsequent evaporation of charged particles, neutrons and $γ$-rays. However, with increasing the energy of the projectile, the emission of particles during the equilibration process becomes more and more probable. This effect can be estimated by the Heavy-Ion Phase-Space Exploration (HIPSE) code which describes the production of clusters of various size from nucleons initially in the target or projectile. This …

Properties of non-rotating and rapidly rotating protoneutron stars and neutron stars are investigated. Protoneutron stars are hot, lepton rich neutron stars which are formed in Type-II supernovae. The hot dense matter is described by a realistic equation of state which is obtained by extending a recent approach of Myers and Swiatecki to the nuclear mass formula. We investigate the properties of protoneutron stars and neutron stars at different evolutionary stages in order to emphasize the differences between very young and old neutron stars. The numerical calculations are performed by means of…
The density of accessible levels at low spin in the (^3He,αγ) reaction has been extracted for the ^{161,162}Dy and ^{171,172}Yb nuclei. The entropy of the even-odd and even-even nuclei has been deduced as a function of excitation energy, and found to reach a maximum of 15 k_B before neutron evaporation. The entropy of one quasi-particle outside an even-even core is found to be 1.70(15) k_B. This quasi-particle picture of hot nuclei is well accounted for within a simple pairing model. The onset of two, four and six quasi-particle excitations in the ^{162}Dy and ^{172}Yb nuclei is discussed and …
A simple model based on the canonical-ensemble theory is outlined for hot nuclei. The properties of the model are discussed with respect to the Fermi gas model and the breaking of Cooper pairs. The model describes well the experimental level density of deformed nuclei in various mass regions. The origin of the so-called S-shape of the heat capacity curve Cv(T) is discussed.
We study the properties of a hot and magnetized quark matter in a rotating cylinder in the presence of a constant magnetic field. To do this, we solve the corresponding Dirac equation using the Ritus eigenfunction method. This leads to the energy dispersion relation, Ritus eigenfunctions, and the quantization relation for magnetized fermions. To avoid causality-violating effects, we impose a certain global boundary condition, and study its effect, in particular, on the energy eigenmodes and the quantization relations of fermions. Using the fermion propagator arising from this method, we then s…
