This work proposes a new distributed and self-organized authentication scheme for Mobile Ad-hoc NETworks (MANETs). Apart from describing all its components, special emphasis is placed on proving that the proposal fulfils most requirements derived from the special characteristics of MANETs, including limited physical protection of broadcast medium, frequent route changes caused by mobility, and lack of structured hierarchy. Interesting conclusions are obtained from an analysis of simulation experiments in different scenarios.
The practical deployment of vehicular networks is still a pending issue. In this paper we describe a new self-organized method of authentication for VANETs, which allows their widespread, fast and secure implementation. Our proposal does not involve any central certification authority because the nodes themselves certify the validity of public keys of the other nodes. On the one hand we propose an algorithm that each node must use to choose the public key certificates for its local store. On the other hand, we also describe a new node authentication method based on a cryptographic protocol inc…
Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) are a particular subclass of mobile ad hoc networks that raise a number of security challenges, notably from the way users authenticate the network. Authentication technologies based on existing security policies and access control rules in such networks assume full trust on Roadside Unit (RSU) and authentication servers. The disclosure of authentication parameters enables user's trace-ability over the network. VANETs' trusted entities (e.g. RSU) can utilize such information to track a user traveling behavior, violating user privacy and anonymity. In this pap…
In some situations the communications of a place can be affected, totally lost, or not even exist. In these cases, the MANETs play an important role, allowing to establish a communications point using the different nodes of the network to reach the destination using decentralized communications. This paper proposes the implementation of a Robotic MANET, a decentralized network using robots as its nodes, which allows to move the network nodes to the desired location remotely. For this, each robot has as a core a Raspberry Pi with the capabilities to perform audio and video streaming, remote con…

Internet of Things (IoT) is a distributed communication technology system that offers the possibility for physical devices (e.g. vehicles home appliances sensors actuators etc.) known as Things to connect and exchange data more importantly without human interaction. Since IoT plays a significant role in our daily lives we must secure the IoT environment to work effectively. Among the various security requirements authentication to the IoT devices is essential as it is the first step in preventing any negative impact of possible attackers. Using the current IEEE 802.11 infrastructure this paper…
Lightweight and low latency security schemes at the physical layer that have recently attracted a lot of attention include: (i) physical unclonable functions (PUFs), (ii) localization based authentication, and, (iii) secret key generation (SKG) from wireless fading coefficients. In this paper, we focus on short blocklengths and propose a fast, privacy preserving, multi-factor authentication protocol that uniquely combines PUFs, proximity estimation and SKG. We focus on delay constrained applications and demonstrate the performance of the SKG scheme in the short blocklength by providing a numer…
Nowadays, Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs) are popularly known as they can reduce traffic and road accidents. These networks need several security requirements, such as anonymity, data authentication, confidentiality, traceability and cancellation of offending users, unlinkability, integrity, undeniability and access control. Authentication is one of the most important security requirements in these networks. So many authentication schemes have been proposed up to now. One of the well-known techniques to provide users authentication in these networks is the authentication based on the smartc…
With the development of artificial intelligence and self-driving, vehicular ad-hoc network (VANET) has become an irreplaceable part of the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSs). However, the traditional network of the ground cannot meet the requirements of transmission, processing, and storage among vehicles. Under this circumstance, integrating space and air nodes into the whole network can provide comprehensive traffic information and reduce the transmission delay. The high mobility and low latency in the Space-Air-Ground Integrated Network (SAGIN) put forward higher requirements for sec…
This paper describes a solution for the efficient management of revocation in vehicular ad-hoc networks, for both certificate-based and identity-based authentication. It proposes the use of an authenticated data structure based on a dynamic hash tree, which is a perfect $k$-ary tree, together with a new version of the SHA-3 hash function. This combination allows optimizing search and insertion operations in the tree. Consequently, the proposal is very useful both when vehicular networks are widely used, and in urban environments. Simulation results are promising and confirm this hypothesis.
A Mobile Ad hoc NETwork (MANET) is a type of wireless network without any infrastructure, where nodes must adapt to the changing dynamic situations that result from their mobility. Because of the decentralization of nodes and the security needs of communications, management of MANETs must be self-organized, which is a major research challenge. In order to cope with the intrinsic properties of MANETs, a new decentralized management system for MANETs called Self-organizing Life Cycle Management (SLCM), is here fully described and evaluated. Regarding security, node authentication is the most cri…
Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) improves traffic management and reduce the amount of road accidents by providing safety applications. However, VANETs are vulnerable to variety of security attacks from malicious entities. An authentication is an integral a neighborhood of trust establishment and secure communications between vehicles. The Road-side Unit (RSU) evaluates trust-value and the Agent Trusted Authority (ATA) helps in computing the trust-value of auto supported its reward-points. The communication between nodes is enhanced, this can reduce 50% of road accidents. The security of the …
Among the available communication systems, vehicular networks are emerging as one of the most promising and yet most challenging instantiations of mobile ad-hoc network technologies. The deployment of such networks in large scale requires the enforcement of stringent security mechanisms that need to abide by the technical, societal, legal, and economical requirements of Intelligent Transportation Systems. Authentication is an effective process for validating user identity in vehicular netoworks. However, it cannot guarantee the network security by itself. Available industrial standards do not …
