We tackle the question of motion in Quantum Gravity: what does motion mean at the Planck scale? Although we are still far from a complete answer we consider here a toy model in which the problem can be formulated and resolved precisely. The setting of the toy model is three dimensional Euclidean gravity. Before studying the model in detail, we argue that Loop Quantum Gravity may provide a very useful approach when discussing the question of motion in Quantum Gravity.
We derive the equations of motion of an electrically neutral test particle for modified gravity theories in which the covariant divergence of the ordinary matter energy-momentum tensor dose not vanish (i.e. $\nabla_μT^{μν}\neq0$). In fact, we generalize the Mathisson-Papapetrou equations by deriving a general form for the equations of motion of a test particle. Furthermore, using the generalized Mathisson-Papapetrou equations, we investigate the equations of motion of a pole-dipole (spinning) particle in the context of Modified Gravity (MOG).
We find an exact solution to the charged 2-body problem in $(1+1)$ dimensional lineal gravity which provides the first example of a relativistic system that generalizes the Majumdar-Papapetrou condition for static balance.
A description of motion is proposed, adapted to the composite bundle interpretation of Poincaré Gauge Theory. Reference frames, relative positions and time evolution are characterized in gauge-theoretical terms. The approach is illustrated by an appropriate formulation of the familiar example of orbital motion induced by Schwarzschild spacetime.
We present an exact solution to the problem of the relativistic motion of 2 point masses in $(1+1)$ dimensional dilaton gravity. The motion of the bodies is governed entirely by their mutual gravitational influence, and the spacetime metric is likewise fully determined by their stress-energy. A Newtonian limit exists, and there is a static gravitational potential. Our solution gives the exact Hamiltonian to infinite order in the gravitational coupling constant.
Entropic forces result from an increase of the entropy of a thermodynamical physical system. It has been proposed that gravity is such a phenomenon and many articles have appeared on the literature concerning this problem. Loop quantum gravity has also considered such possibility. We propose a new method in loop quantum gravity which reproduces an entropic force. By considering the interaction between a fixed gravity state space and a particle state in loop quantum gravity, we show that it leads to a mathematical description of a random walk of such particle. The random walk in special situati…
We provide a set of exact spherically symmetric solutions describing the interior of a relativistic star under f(T) modified gravity. To tackle the problem with lucidity we also assume the existence of a conformal Killing vector field within this f(T) gravity. We study several cases of interest to explore physically valid features of the solutions.
We compare the Vinti integral of the classic celestial mechanics with a conserved Carter-like integral of motion for an axially-symmetric body in the Newtonian theory that has been recently found by Clifford Will. We demonstrate that the integrals are identical. It sheds new light on the Newtonian limit of the Kerr geometry.
The behaviour of massive and massless test particles around asymptotically flat and spherically symmetric, charged black holes in the context of generalized dilaton-axion gravity in four dimensions is studied. All the possible motions are investigated by calculating and plotting the corresponding effective potential for the massless and massive particles as well. Further, the motion of massive (charged or uncharged) test particles in the gravitational field of charged black holes in generalized dilaton-axion gravity for the cases of static and non-static equilibrium is investigated by applying…
We derive the equations of motion of extended deformable bodies in metric-affine gravity. The conservation laws which follow from the invariance of the action under the general coordinate transformations are used as a starting point for the discussion of the dynamics of extended deformable test bodies. By means of a covariant approach, based on Synge's world function, we obtain the master equation of motion for an arbitrary system of coupled conserved currents. This unified framework is then applied to metric-affine gravity. We confirm and extend earlier findings; in particular, we once again …
In this paper, we study the geodesic motion in the spacetime of a SU(2)-colored (A)dS black hole in conformal gravity, and also we investigate spacetime features, such as light spheres and horizons. Moreover, we derive the analytical solutions for the equation of motion of test particles and light rays using Weierstrass elliptic and Kleinian sigma functions. Depending on the particle energy levels and angular momentums, we classify the solutions of the geodesic equations. Furthermore, several examples of possible types of orbits illustrate the results
The aim of this paper is to find higher order geometrical corrections to the Einstein-Hilbert action that can lead to only second order equations of motion. The metric formalism is used, and static spherically symmetric and Friedmann-Lemaître space-times are considered, in four dimensions. The FKWC-basis are introduced in order to consider all the possible invariant scalars, and both polynomial and non-polynomial gravities are investigated.
We derive the full set of field equations based on Hossenfelder's recent covariant formulation of the emergent gravity model, along with perturbative and exact solutions. The exact solution describes a static, spherically-symmetric spacetime with a non-trivial vector field which plays the role of dark matter under the emergent gravity paradigm. Equations of motion of relativistic test masses are derived and are shown to reduce to Modified Newtonian Dynamics with additional relativistic corrections. It is also shown that the presence of the vector field gives an additional positive contribution…
It is shown that introducing the quantum effects using deBroglie--Bohm theory in the canonical formulation of gravity would change the constraints algebra. The new algebra is derived and shown that it is the clear projection of general coordinate transformations to the spatial and temporal diffeomorphisms. The quantum Einstein's equations are derived and it is shown that they are manifestly covariant under the above diffeomorphisms, as it would be.
Recently the non-local gravity theory has come out to be a good candidate for an effective field theory of quantum gravity and also it can provide rich phenomenology to understand late-time accelerating expansion of the universe. For any valid theory of gravity, it has to surmount solar system tests as well as strong field tests. Having motivations to prepare the framework for the strong field test of the modified gravity using Extreme Mass Ratio Inspirals(EMRIs), here we try to obtain the metric for Kerr-like blackhole for a non-local gravity model known as RR model and calculate the shift in…
In this article, we have examined the existence of a static spherically symmetric solution in the Scalar Tensor Vector Gravity (STVG) and investigated its horizon distances to develop boundary limitations for our test particle. We have computed the Kretschmann invariant of the metric to study the singularities and verify that it reduces to general relativity's Kretschmann invariant as $α\rightarrow0$. Further, we investigated the orbital motion of a time-like and light-like test particle around the static solution by developing an effective potential and the radius of the innermost stable circ…
Constants of motion are calculated for 2+1 dimensional gravity with topology R \times T^2 and negative cosmological constant. Certain linear combinations of them satisfy the anti - de Sitter algebra so(2,2) in either ADM or holonomy variables. Quantisation is straightforward in terms of the holonomy parameters, and the modular group is generated by these conserved quantities. On inclusion of the Hamiltonian three new global constants are derived and the quantum algebra extends to the conformal algebra so(2,3).
It is shown that a recently proposed model for the gravitational interaction in non relativistic quantum mechanics may turn to be relevant to the derivation of the second law of thermodynamics. In particular, the spreading of the probability density of the center of mass of an isolated macroscopic body does not imply delocalization of the wave function, but on the contrary it corresponds to an entropy growth.
Analytical solutions of Maxwell equations around black hole immersed in external uniform magnetic field in the background of the Kehagias-Sfetsos (KS) asymptotically flat black hole solution of Hořava-Lifshitz gravity have been found. Influence of magnetic field on effective potential of the radial motion of charged test particle around black hole immersed in external magnetic field in Hořava-Lifshitz gravity has been investigated by using Hamilton-Jacobi method. Exact analytical solution for dependence of the minimal radius of the circular orbits $r_{\rm mc}$ from KS parameter $ω$ for motion …
A general definition of energy is given, via the Nöther theorem, for the N-body problem in (1+1) dimensional gravity. Within a first-order Lagrangian framework, the density of energy of a solution relative to a background is identified with the superpotential of the theory. For specific applications we reproduce the expected Hamiltonian for the motion of N particles in a curved spacetime. This Hamiltonian agrees with that found through an ADM-like prescription for the energy when the latter is applicable but it also extends to a wider class of solutions provided a suitable background is chosen…
The motion of a neutral particle in the vicinity of a slowly rotating black hole in the Horava-Lifshitz theory of gravity and 3+1 dimensional topological Lifshitz black hole is investigated. Geodesics for radial motion of the particles are also plotted. Some different cases of the orbital motion of the particle are discussed where maximum and minimum values of the effective potential are calculated. Further the Bañados, Silk and West (BSW) mechanism is studied for these black holes. It is shown that the centre-of-mass energy (CME) of two colliding uncharged particles at the horizon of these bl…
In the present paper we study the geodesic motion of test particles and light rays in the spacetime of a static charged black hole in $f(R)$ gravity. The complete set of analytic solutions of the geodesic equations in the spacetime of this black hole are presented. The geodesic equations are solved in terms of Weierstrass elliptic $\wp$ function and derivatives of Kleinian $σ$ function. With the help of parametric diagrams and effective potentials we analyze the geodesic motion and give a list of all possible orbit types. The different types of the resulting orbits are characterized in terms o…
On the basis of Lagrangian formalism of relativistic field theory post-Newtonian equations of motion for a rotating body are derived in the frame of Feynman's quantum field gravity theory (FGT) and compared with corresponding geodesic equations in general relativity (GR). It is shown that in FGT the trajectory of a rotating test body does not depend on a choice of a coordinate system. The equation of translational motion of a gyroscope is applied to description of laboratory experiments with free falling rotating bodies and rotating bodies on a balance scale. Post-Newtonian relativistic effect…
We develop the canonical formalism for a system of $N$ bodies in lineal gravity and obtain exact solutions to the equations of motion for N=2. The determining equation of the Hamiltonian is derived in the form of a transcendental equation, which leads to the exact Hamiltonian to infinite order of the gravitational coupling constant. In the equal mass case explicit expressions of the trajectories of the particles are given as the functions of the proper time, which show characteristic features of the motion depending on the strength of gravity (mass) and the magnitude and sign of the cosmologic…
Quantum Cosmology and Gravity are formulated here as the primary and secondary quantizations of the energy constraints by analogy with the historical formulation of quantum field theory. New fact is that both the Universe and its matter are created from stable vacuum obtained by the Bogoliubov-type transformation just as it is in the theory of quantum superfluid liquid. Such the Quantum Gravity gives us possibility to explain topical problems of cosmology by the cosmological creation of universes and particles from vacuum.
In this paper, model of charged gravastar under $f(T)$ modified gravity is obtained. The model has been explored by taking the diagonal tetrad field of static spacetime together with electric charge. To solve the Einstein-Maxwell field equations, along with $f(T)$ gravity, we assume the existence of a conformal Killing vector which relates between geometry and matter through the Einstein-Maxwell field equations by an inheritance symmetry. We study several cases of interest to explore physically valid features of the solutions. Some physical properties of the model are discussed and we match ou…
When pressure is not negligible in comparison with energy density, the external gravitational field and the motion of particles in it are modified. For spherically symmetric body two effective mass parameters determine the external gravitational field and the motion of particles in it. For distances much larger than the gravitational radius we use the linearized Einstein equations to consider the effects of pressure on test particle motion.
We present the exact solution of two-body motion in (1+1) dimensional dilaton gravity by solving the constraint equations in the canonical formalism. The determining equation of the Hamiltonian is derived in a transcendental form and the Hamiltonian is expressed for the system of two identical particles in terms of the Lambert $W$ function. The $W$ function has two real branches which join smoothly onto each other and the Hamiltonian on the principal branch reduces to the Newtonian limit for small coupling constant. On the other branch the Hamiltonian yields a new set of motions which can not …
Hořava--Lifshitz gravity has covariance only under the foliation-preserving diffeomorphism. This implies that the quantities on the constant-time hypersurfaces should be regular. In the original theory, the projectability condition, which strongly restricts the lapse function, is proposed. We assume that a star is filled with a perfect fluid with no-radial motion and that it has reflection symmetry about the equatorial plane. As a result, we find a no-go theorem for stationary and axisymmetric star solutions in projectable Hořava--Lifshitz gravity under the physically reasonable assumptions in…
A systematic method is developed to study classical motion of a mass point in gravitational gauge field. First, the formulation of gauge theory of gravity in arbitrary curvilinear coordinates is given. Then in spherical coordinates system, a spherical symmetric solution of the field equation of gravitational gauge field is obtained, which is just the Schwarzschild solution. In gauge theory of gravity, the equation of motion of a classical mass point in gravitational gauge field is given by Newton's second law of motion. A relativistic form of the gravitational force on a mass point is deduced …
A general form for the equation of motion for higher-curvature gravity is obtained. The interesting feature of the analysis is that it can handle Lagrangians which contain non-minimal kinetic scalar couplings. Certain subtle features, which are absent for the Einstein-Hilbert term, arise in higher-curvature gravity. These are identified and an algorithmic prescription is presented for the evaluation of the generalized equation of motion.
In the present paper we take a step towards the generalization of the post-Newtonian formalism to tensor-multi-scalar theories. These are theories where we have more than one scalar field being mediators of the gravitational interaction in addition to the spacetime metric. They are very natural extensions of Einstein's gravity allowing for the existence of new classes of compact objects and offering interesting phenomenology reaching far beyond the single scalar field theories. We calculate the expansion up to 2.5 post-Newtonian order in the near zone using the so-called direct integration of …
We construct a charged rotating black hole in 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity starting from charged black hole in 4D EGB gravity using complex coordinate transformations suggested by Newman-Janis. Further, we have studied the null geodesics to investigate the shape of the shadow cast by a rotating charged black hole in 4D EGB gravity. Also we have discussed their horizon properties and shadow cast. The phenomenon of black hole shadows alongwith the horizon structure and energy emission has been analysed to see the influence of Gauss-Bonnet term and black hole charge on horizon, shadow, …
Although general relativity (GR) passes all present experimental tests with flying colors, it remains important to study alternative theories of gravity for several theoretical and phenomenological reasons that we recall in these lecture notes. The various possible ways of modifying GR are presented, and we notably show that the motion of massive bodies may be changed even if one assumes that matter is minimally coupled to the metric as in GR. This is illustrated with the particular case of scalar-tensor theories of gravity, whose Fokker action is discussed, and we also mention the consequence…
In this work we find analytical solutions to the null geodesics around a black hole in the conformal Weyl gravity. Exact expressions for the horizons are found, and they depend on the cosmological constant and the coupling constants of the conformal Weyl gravity. Then, we study the radial motion from the point of view of the proper and coordinate frames, and compare it with that found in spacetimes of general relativity. The angular motion is also examined qualitatively by means of an effective potential; quantitatively, the equation of motion is solved in terms of $\wp$-Weierstrass elliptic f…
We consider electromagnetic fields and charged particle dynamics around non-singular black holes in conformal gravity immersed in an external, asymptotically uniform magnetic field. First, we obtain analytic solutions of the electromagnetic field equation around rotating non-singular black holes in conformal gravity. We show that the radial components of the electric and magnetic fields increase with the increase of the parameters $L$ and $N$ of the black hole solution. Second, we study the dynamics of charged particles. We show that the increase of the values of the parameters $L$ and $N$ and…
We calculate the explicit equations of motion for non-spinning compact objects to 2.5 post-Newtonian order, or O(v/c)^5 beyond Newtonian gravity, in a general class of scalar-tensor theories of gravity. We use the formalism of the Direct Integration of the Relaxed Einstein Equations (DIRE), adapted to scalar-tensor theory, coupled with an approach pioneered by Eardley for incorporating the internal gravity of compact, self-gravitating bodies. For the conservative part of the motion, we obtain the two-body Lagrangian and conserved energy and momentum through second post-Newtonian order. We find…
Effective potential for a class of static solutions of Kaluza-Klein equations with three-dimensional spherical symmetry is studied. Test particles motion is analyzed. In attempts to read the obtained results with the experimental data, particular attention is devoted to the Schwarzschild's limit of the four dimensional counterpart of these electromagnetic-free solutions. Massive particles stable circular orbits in particular are studied, and a comparison between the well known results if the Schwarzschild's case and those found for the static higher-dimensional case is performed. A modificatio…
This paper investigates the influence of charge on physical features of gravastars in the framework of energy-momentum squared gravity. A gravastar is an alternate model to a black hole that comprises of three distinct regions, namely the intermediate shell, inner and outer sectors. Different values of the barotropic equation of state parameter provide the mathematical formulation for these regions. We construct the structure of a gravastar admitting conformal motion for a specific model of energy-momentum squared gravity. The field equations are formulated for a spherically symmetric spacetim…
A modified gravity (MOG) theory, that has been successfully fitted to galaxy rotational velocity data, cluster data, the Bullet Cluster 1E0657-56 and cosmological observations, is shown to be in good agreement with the motion of satellite galaxies around host galaxies at distances 50-400 kpc.
The problem of motion for different test particles, charged and spinning objects of constant spinning tensor in different versions of bimetric theory of gravity is obtained by deriving their corresponding path and path deviation equations, using a modified Bazanski in presence of Riemannian geometry. This method enables us to find path and path deviation equations of different objects orbiting very strong gravitational fields.
The motion of test bodies in gravity is tightly linked to the conservation laws. This well-known fact in the context of General Relativity is also valid for gravitational theories which go beyond Einstein's theory. Here we derive the equations of motion for test bodies for a very large class of gravitational theories with a general nonminimal coupling to matter. These equations form the basis for future systematic tests of alternative gravity theories. Our treatment is covariant and generalizes the classic Mathisson-Papapetrou-Dixon result for spinning (extended) test bodies. The equations of …
We examine generalizations of the five-dimensional canonical metric by including a dependence of the extra coordinate in the four-dimensional metric. We discuss a more appropriate way to interpret the four-dimensional energy-momentum tensor induced from the five-dimensional space-time and show it can lead to quite different physical situations depending on the interpretation chosen. Furthermore, we show that the assumption of five-dimensional null trajectories in Kaluza-Klein gravity can correspond to either four-dimensional massive or null trajectories when the path parameterization is chosen…
We extend the canonical formalism for the motion of $N$-particles in lineal gravity to include charges. Under suitable coordinate conditions and boundary conditions the determining equation of the Hamiltonian (a kind of transcendental equation) is derived from the matching conditions for the dilaton field at the particles' position. The canonical equations of motion are derived from this determining equation. For the equal mass case the canonical equations in terms of the proper time can be exactly solved in terms of hyperbolic and/or trigonometric functions. In electrodynamics with zero cosmo…
We study the derivation of the effective equation of motion for a pointlike particle in the framework of quantum gravity. Just like the geodesic motion of a classical particle is a consequence of classical field theory coupled to general relativity, we introduce the similar notion of an effective equation of motion, but starting from an abstract quantum gravity description. In the presence of entanglement between gravity and matter, quantum effects give rise to modifications of the geodesic trajectory, primarily as a consequence of the nonzero overlap between various coherent states of the gra…
We study motion of test particles and photons in the vicinity of (2+1) dimensional Gauss-Bonnet (GB) BTZ black hole. We find that the presence of the coupling constant serves as an attractive gravitational charge, shifting the innermost stable circular orbits outward with respect to the one for this theory in 4 dimensions. Further we consider the gravitational lensing, to test the GB gravity in (2+1) dimensions and show that the presence of GB parameter causes the bending angle to grow up first with the increase of the inverse of closest approach distance, $u_0$, then have its maximum value fo…
We consider possible signatures for the so called {\it hybrid gravity} within the Galactic Central Parsec. This modified theory of gravity consists of a superposition of the metric Einstein-Hilbert Lagrangian with an $f(R)$ term constructed {\it à la Palatini} and can be easily reduced to an equivalent scalar-tensor theory. Such an approach is introduced in order to cure the shortcomings related to $f(R)$ gravity, in general formulated either in metric or in metric-affine frameworks. Hybrid gravity allows to disentangle the further gravitational degrees of freedom with respect to those of stan…
In general coordinate invariant gravity theories whose Lagrangians contain arbitrarily high order derivative fields, the Noether currents for the global translation and for the Nakanishi's IOSp(8|8) choral symmetry containing the BRS symmetry as its member, are constructed. We generally show that for each of those Noether currents a suitable linear combination of equations of motion can be brought into the form of Maxwell-type field equation possessing the Noether current as its source term.
According to General Relativity, as distinct from Newtonian gravity, motion under gravity is treated by a theory that deals, initially, only with test particles. At the same time, satellite measurements deal with extended bodies. We discuss the correspondence between geodesic motion in General Relativity and the motion of an extended body by means of the Ehlers-Geroch theorem, and in the context of the recently launched LAser RElativity Satellite (LARES). Being possibly the highest mean density orbiting body in the Solar system, this satellite provides the best realization of a test particle e…
We consider the N-body problem in (1+1) dimensional lineal gravity. For 2 point masses (N=2) we obtain an exact solution for the relativistic motion. In the equal mass case we obtain an explicit expression for their proper separation as a function of their mutual proper time. Our solution gives the exact Hamiltonian to infinite order in the gravitational coupling constant.
In general relativity, the equation of motion of the spin is given by the equation of parallel transport, which is a result of the space-time geometry. Any result of the space-time geometry can not be directly applied to gauge theory of gravity. In gauge theory of gravity, based on the viewpoint of the coupling between the spin and gravitational field, an equation of motion of the spin is deduced. In the post Newtonian approximation, it is proved that this equation gives out the same result as that of the equation of parallel transport. So, in the post Newtonian approximation, gauge theory of …
The effects of Horava-Lifshitz corrections to the gravito-magnetic field are analyzed. Solutions in the weak field, slow motion limit, referring to the motion of a satellite around the Earth are considered. The post-newtonian paradigm is used to evaluate constraints on the Horava-Lifshitz parameter space from current satellite and terrestrial experiments data. In particular, we focus on GRAVITY PROBE B, LAGEOS and the more recent LARES mission, as well as a forthcoming terrestrial project, GINGER.
This work mainly focuses to unveil the optical features of a black hole. For this objective, we utilize the metric-affine black hole geometry with the inclusion of dilation, spin, and shear charge. The Lagrangian coefficients $f_1$ and $d_1$ are the main parameters, where $f_1<0$, which differentiate the solutions by $d_1=8f_1,\;d_1=-8f_1,\;\&\;d_1=\pm8f_1$. Based on these parameters, we carry out this work in two cases, i.e., $d_1=8f_1,\;\&\;d_1=-8f_1$. We forecast the detailed impact of dilation, spin, and shear charges on the optical properties of the black holes in both cases. To unreveal …
For a test body orbiting an axisymmetric body in Newtonian gravitational theory with multipole moments Q_L, (and for a charge in a non-relativistic orbit about a charge distribution with the same multipole moments) we show that there exists, in addition to the energy and angular momentum component along the symmetry axis, a conserved quantity analogous to the Carter constant of Kerr spacetimes in general relativity, if the odd-L moments vanish, and the even-L moments satisfy Q_2L = m (Q_2/m)^L. Strangely, this is precisely the relation among mass moments enforced by the no-hair theorems of rot…
We perform a post-Newtonian (PN) solar system analysis for Palatini $f(R)$ theories considering finite volume non-spherical planets and with emphasis to $f(R)$ functions that are analytical about $R=0$. First we consider the Will-Nordtvedt parametrized post-Newtonian (PPN) formalism, from which the metric is shown to depend, in general, on terms not covered by the standard PPN potentials. Hence, a full analysis of the PN equations of motion is performed. From the latter we conclude that, apart from redefinitions on the internal energy and the pressure, which cannot be constrained by solar syst…
