Let $\g$ be a classical Lie algebra, $e$ a nilpotent of $\g$ element and $\gt g_e$ the centraliser of $e$ in $\g$. We prove that $\g_e=[\g_e,\g_e]$ if and only if $e$ is rigid. It is also shown that if $e$ is contained in $[\g_e,\g_e]$, then the nilpotent radical of $\g_e$ coincides with $[\g(1)_e,\g_e]$, where $\g(1)_e$ is an eigenspace of a characteristic of $e$ with the eigenvalue 1.
Let $A$ be a finite dimensional algebra having the double centraliser property with respect to a minimal faithful projective-injective left module $Af$ for some idempotent $f$. We prove that in this case $A$ is a monomial algebra if and only if $A$ is a Nakayama algebra given by quiver and relations.
In representation theory, the double centraliser property is an important property for a module (bimodule). It plays a fundamental role in many theories. In this paper, we extend this property to complexes in derived categories of finite dimensional algebras, under the name derived double centraliser property. Characterizations for complexes with the derived double centraliser property and (two-sided) tilting complexes in derived categories of hereditary algebras are given. In particular, all complexes with this property in the derived categories of lower triangular matrix algebras are classif…
We define a family of algebras \mathsf{FH}_{m} which generalise the Farahat-Higman algebra introduced in [FH59] by replacing the role of the center of the group algebra of the symmetric groups with centraliser algebras of symmetric groups. These algebras have a basis indexed by marked cycle shapes, combinatorial objects which generalise proper integer partitions. We analyse properties of marked cycle shapes and of the algebras \mathsf{FH}_{m}, demonstrating that some of the former govern the latter. The main theorem of the paper proves that the algebra \mathsf{FH}_{m} is isomorphic to the tens…
We check that the connected centralisers of nilpotent elements in the orthogonal and symplectic groups have Levi decompositions in even characteristic. This provides a justification for the identification of the isomorphism classes of the reductive quotients as stated in [Liebeck, Seitz; Unipotent and Nilpotent Classes in Simple Algebraic Groups and Lie Algebras].
We prove that the kernel of the action the group algebra of the Weyl group acting on tensor space (via restriction of the action from the general linear group) is a cell ideal with respect to the alternating Murphy basis. This provides an analogue of the second fundamental theory of invariant theory for the partition algebra over an arbitrary commutative ring and proves that the centraliser algebras of the partition algebra are cellular. We also prove similar results for the half partition algebras.
We consider the deformed versions of the classical Howe dual pairs $(O(r),\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}(2))$ and $(O(r),\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{p}\mathfrak{o}(2|2))$ in the context of a rational Cherednik algebra $H_c=H_c(W,\mathfrak{h})$ associated to a finite Coxeter group $W$ at the parameters $c$ and $t=1$. For the first pair, we compute the centraliser of the well-known copy of $\mathfrak{s}\cong\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}(2)$ inside $H_c$. For the second pair, we show that the classical copy of $\mathfrak{g}\cong\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{p}\mathfrak{o}(2|2)$ inside the Weyl-Clifford algebra $\mathcal{…
The Birman-Wenzl-Murakami algebra, Hecke algebra and representations of U_{q}(osp(1|2n))
A representation of the Birman-Wenzl-Murakami algebra BW_{t} (-q^{2n},q) exists in the centraliser algebra End_{U_q(osp(1|2n))} (V^{ \otimes t}), where V is the fundamental (2n+1)-dimensional irreducible U_{q} (osp(1|2n))-module. This representation is defined using permuted R-matrices acting on V^{ \otimes t}. A complete set of projections onto and intertwiners between irreducible U_{q} (osp(1|2n))-summands of V^{ \otimes t} exists via this representation, proving that End_{U_q(osp(1|2n))} V^{ \otimes t}) is generated by the set of permuting R-matrices acting on V^{ \otimes t}. We also show t…
We show that the centraliser of the maximal compact subgroup of the real orthogonal or symplectic groups acting on tensors of their standard representation are isomorphic to cyclotomic Brauer algebras. We also show that for the symplectic group this cyclotomic Brauer algebra splits into summands of walled Brauer algebras.
In this paper we study the tensor powers of the standard representation of the quantum super-algebra $U_q(sl(2|1)$, focusing on the rings of its algebra endomorphisms, called centraliser algebras and denoted by $LG_n$. Their dimensions were conjectured by I. Marin and E. Wagner \cite{MW}. We prove this conjecture, describing the intertwiner spaces from a semi-simple decomposition as sets consisting of certain paths in a planar lattice with integer coordinates. Using this model, we present a matrix unit basis for the centraliser algebra $LG_n$, by means of closed curves in the plane, which are …
Derived equivalences between finite dimensional algebras do, in general, not pass to centraliser (or other) subalgebras, nor do they preserve homological invariants of the algebras, such as global or dominant dimension. We show that, however, they do so for large classes of algebras described in this article. Algebras $A$ of $ν$-dominant dimension at least one have unique largest non-trivial self-injective centraliser subalgebras $H_A$. A derived restriction theorem is proved: A derived equivalence between $A$ and $B$ implies a derived equivalence between $H_A$ and $H_B$. Two methods are devel…
Let p be a prime, K a p-adic field, G a nilpotent, uniform pro-p group. We prove that all faithful, primitive ideals in the Iwasawa algebra KG are controlled by the centraliser of the second term in the upper central series for G.
Humphreys' conjecture on blocks parametrises the blocks of reduced enveloping algebras $U_χ({\mathfrak g})$, where ${\mathfrak g}$ is the Lie algebra of a reductive algebraic group over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>0$ and $χ\in{\mathfrak g}^{*}$. It is well-known to hold under Jantzen's standard assumptions. We note here that it holds under slightly weaker assumptions, by utilising the full generality of certain results in the literature. We also provide a new approach to prove the result for ${\mathfrak g}$ of type $G_2$ in characteristic 3, a case in which the previousl…
Let $G$ be a locally profinite group and let $k$ be a field of positive characteristic $p$. Let $Z(G)$ denote the center of $G$ and let $\mathfrak{Z}(G)$ denote the Bernstein center of $G$, that is, the $k$-algebra of natural endomorphisms of the identity functor on the category of smooth $k$-linear representations of $G$. We show that if $G$ contains an open pro-$p$ subgroup but no proper open centralisers, then there is a natural isomorphism of $k$-algebras $\mathfrak{Z}(Z(G)) \xrightarrow{\cong} \mathfrak{Z}(G)$. We also describe $\mathfrak{Z}(Z(G))$ explicitly as a particular completion of…
Let $A$ be a standardly stratified algebra over a field $K$ and $T$ a tilting module over $A$. Let $Λ^+$ be an indexing set of all simple modules in $A\lmod$. We show that if there is an integer $r\in\N$ such that for any $λ\inΛ^+$, there is an embedding $Δ(λ)\hookrightarrow T^{\oplus r}$ as well as an epimorphism $T^{\oplus r}\twoheadrightarrow\overline{\nabla}(λ)$ as $A$-modules, then $T$ is a faithful $A$-module and $A$ has the double centraliser property with respect to $T$. As applications, we prove that if $A$ is quasi-hereditary with a simple preserving duality and $T$ a given faithful …
In this paper we determine the derived representation type of quadratic string algebras and we prove that every derived tame quadratic string algebra whose quiver has cycles is derived equivalent to some skewed-gentle algebra.
The numerical invariants (global) cohomological length, (global) cohomological width, and (global) cohomological range of complexes (algebras) are introduced. Cohomological range leads to the concepts of derived bounded algebras and strongly derived unbounded algebras naturally. The first and second Brauer-Thrall type theorems for the bounded derived category of a finite-dimensional algebra over an algebraically closed field are obtained. The first Brauer-Thrall type theorem says that derived bounded algebras are just derived finite algebras. The second Brauer-Thrall type theorem says that an …
We determine the derived representation type of Nakayama algebras and prove that a derived tame Nakayama algebra without simple projective module is gentle or derived equivalent to some skewed-gentle algebra, and as a consequence, we determine its singularity category.
Let $A$ be a graded algebra. It is shown that the derived category of dg modules over $A$ (viewed as a dg algebra with trivial differential) is a triangulated hull of a certain orbit category of the derived category of graded $A$-modules. This is applied to study derived categories of graded gentle one-cycle algebras.
