Let $R$ be a commutative ring with identity. We define a graph $Γ_{\aut}(R)$ on $ R$, with vertices elements of $R$, such that any two distinct vertices $x, y$ are adjacent if and only if there exists $σ\in \aut$ such that $σ(x)=y$. The idea is to apply graph theory to study orbit spaces of rings under automorphisms. In this article, we define the notion of a ring of type $n$ for $n\geq 0$ and characterize all rings of type zero. We also characterize local rings $(R,M) $ in which either the subset of units ($\neq 1 $) is connected or the subset $M- \{0\}$ is connected in $Γ_{\aut}(R)$.
Recently, Edo-Poloni constructed a family of tame automorphisms of a polynomial ring in three variables which degenerates to a wild automorphism. In this note, we generalize the example by a different method.
An automorphism $F$ of the polynomial ring in $n$ variables over a field of characteristic zero is said to be {\it co-tame} if the subgroup of the automorphism group of the polynomial ring generated by $F$ and affine automorphisms contains the tame subgroup. There exist many examples of such an $F$, and several sufficient conditions for co-tameness are already known. In 2015, Edo-Lewis gave the first example of a non-cotame automorphism, which is a tame automorphism of the polynomial ring in three variables. In this paper, we give the first example of a non-cotame automorphism which is not tam…
We consider differential rings of the form (K[x; y];D), where K is an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero and D : K[x; y] \to K[x; y] is a K-derivation. We study the Automorphism Group of such a ring and give criteria for deciding whether that group is an algebraic group. In most cases, from that study we deduce a primary classification of this type of differential ring up to conjugation with a polynomial automorphism.
In this article we extend the notion of expansivity from topological dynamics to automorphisms of commutative rings with identity. We show that a ring admits a 0-expansive automorphism if and only if it is a finite product of local rings. Generalizing a well known result of compact metric spaces, we prove that if a ring admits a positively expansive automorphism then it admits finitely many maximal ideals. We prove its converse for principal ideal domains. We also consider the topological expansivity induced, in the spectrum of the ring with the Zariski topology, by an automorphism and some co…
We say that a polynomial automorphism $ϕ$ in $n$ variables is stably co-tame if the tame subgroup in $n$ variables is contained in the subgroup generated by $ϕ$ and affine automorphisms in $n+1$ variables. In this paper, we give conditions for stably co-tameness of polynomial automorphisms.
Let $G\subset GL_n(k)$ be a finite subgroup and $k[x_1,\dots, x_n]^G\subset k[x_1,\dots, x_n]$ its ring of invariants. We show that, in many cases, the automorphism group of $k[x_1,\dots, x_n]^G$ is $k^\times$. Version 2: Incorporates parts of arXiv:2210.16265.
This work concerns the Koszul complex $K$ of a commutative noetherian local ring $R$, with its natural structure as differential graded $R$-algebra. It is proved that under diverse conditions, involving the multiplicative structure of $H(K)$, any dg $R$-algebra automorphism of $K$ induces the identity map on $H(K)$. In such cases, it is possible to define an action of the automorphism group of $R$ on $H(K)$. On the other hand, numerous rings are described for which $K$ has automorphisms that do not induce the identity on $H(K)$. For any $R$, it is shown that the group of automorphisms of $H(K)…
Let $R$ be a commutative integral domain with unit, $f$ be a nonconstant monic polynomial in $R[t]$, and $I_f \subset R[t]$ be the ideal generated by $f$. In this paper we study the group of $R$-algebra automorphisms of the $R$-algebra without unit $I_f$. We show that, if $f$ has only one root (possibly with multiplicity), then $Aut (I_f) \cong R^\times$. We also show that, under certain mild hypothesis, if $f$ has at least two different roots in the algebraic closure of the quotient field of $R$, then $Aut(I_f)$ is a cyclic group and its order can be completely determined by analyzing the roo…
Let $k$ be a field of characteristic $p>0$. We discuss the automorphisms of the polynomial ring $k[x_1,\ldots ,x_n]$ of order $p$, or equivalently the ${\bf Z}/p{\bf Z}$-actions on the affine space ${\bf A}_k^n$. When $n=2$, such an automorphism is know to be a conjugate of an automorphism fixing a variable. It is an open question whether the same holds when $n\ge 3$. In this paper, (1) we give the first counterexample to this question when $n=3$. In fact, we show that every ${\bf G}_a$-action on ${\bf A}_k^3$ of rank three yields counterexamples for $n=3$. We give a family of counterexamples …
We consider matrices with entries in a local ring, Mat(m,n;R). Fix an action of group G on Mat(m,n;R), and a subset of allowed deformations, Σin Mat(m,n;R). The standard question (along the lines of Singularity Theory) is the finite-(Σ,G)-determinacy of matrices. In our previous work this determinacy question was reduced to the study of the tangent spaces to Σand to the orbit, T_{(Σ,A)}, T_{(GA,A)}, and their quotient: the tangent module to the miniversal deformation. In particular, the order of determinacy is controlled by the annihilator of this tangent module. Then we have studied this tang…
We describe the set of all locally nilpotent derivations of the quotient ring $\mathbb{K}[X,Y,Z]/(f(X)Y - φ(X,Z))$ constructed from the defining equation $f(X)Y = φ(X,Z)$ of a generalized Danielewski surface in $\mathbb K^3$ for a specific choice of polynomials $f$ and $φ$, with $\mathbb K$ an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. As a consequence of this description we calculate the $ML$-invariant and the Derksen invariant of this ring. We also determine a set of generators for the group of $\mathbb K$-automorphisms of $\mathbb K[X,Y,Z]/(f(X)Y - φ(Z))$ also for a specific choice …
Due to Rentschler, Miyanishi and Kojima, the invariant ring for a ${\bf G}_a$-action on the affine plane over an arbitrary field is generated by one coordinate. In this note, we give a new short proof for this result using the automorphism theorem of Jung and van der Kulk.
The automorphism group of a curve is studied from the viewpoint of the canonical embedding and Petri's theorem. A criterion for identifying the automorphism group as an algebraic subgroup the general linear group is given. Furthermore the action of the automorphism group is extended to an action of the minimal free resolution of the canonical ring of the curve $X$.
