We present a photometric and spectroscopic study of the poorly investigated open cluster Trumpler~3. Basic parameters such as the age of $70\pm10$ Myr, the color excess $E(B-V)=0.30\pm0.02$ mag, the distance of $0.69\pm0.03$ kpc and the limiting radius of 12' were redetermined and compared with previous preliminary studies. The distance of $0.65\pm0.09$ kpc was determined independently by spectral parallaxes. Simultaneously, our analysis allowed us to estimate a total number of members to be $N_{\rm{tot}}=570\pm90$ and a total mass of the cluster to be $M_{\rm{tot}}=270\pm40$ $\rm{M}_{\odot}$. We also determined a state of cluster's dynamical evolution. We conclude that Trumpler~3 is a young low-massive stellar ensemble with a typical mass function slope, located near to the outer edge of the Galaxy's Orion Spur. As a result of a wide-field search for short period variable stars, 24 variables were discovered in the cluster's area. Only one of them -- a variable of the $γ$-Dor type -- was found to be a likely cluster member.
This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of two pairs of binary clusters (NGC 5617 and Trumpler 22) and (NGC 3293 and NGC 3324) located in the fourth quadrant of our Galaxy. For this purpose we use different data taken from VVV survey, WISE, VPHAS, APASS, GLIMPSE along with Gaia~EDR3 astrometric data. We identified 584, 429, 692 and 273 most probable cluster members with membership probability higher than 80 % towards the region of clusters NGC 5617, Trumpler 22, NGC 3293 and NGC 3324. We estimated the value of R as ~ 3.1 for clusters NGC 5617 and Trumpler 22, which indicates normal extinc…
We present a study, based on Gaia DR2, of the population of blue straggler stars (BSS) in the open clusters Trumpler 5, Trumpler 20, and NGC 2477. All candidates were selected according to their position in the color-magnitude diagram, to their proper motion components, and to their parallax. We also looked for yellow stragglers, i.e., possible evolved blue stragglers. We found that Trumpler 5 hosts a large BSS population, which allowed us to analyze their radial distribution as a probe of the cluster's dynamical status. The BSS distribution was compared with that of red giant branch stars (RG…
Context. Sulfur (S) is one of the lesser-studied $α$-elements. Published investigations of its behavior have so far focused on local stars, and only a few clusters of the Milky Way have been considered to study this topic. We aim to study the S content of the globular cluster Ruprecht 106 -- which has never before been studied for this purpose, but is known to present low levels of the [$α$/Fe] abundance ratio -- and the open cluster Trumpler 5. The only star studied so far in Trumpler 5 shows an unexpectedly low abundance of S. Aims. With this work, we aim to provide the first S abundance in …
We carried out UBVRcIc photometric study of three poorly studied young open clusters IC 1442, King 21, and Trumpler 7 (Tr 7). We obtained 263, 244, and 128 member stars using Gaia DR2 proper motions and parallaxes in IC 1442, King 21, and Tr 7, respectively. The reddening, E(B-V), was derived to be 0.54+/-0.04, 0.76+/-0.06, and 0.38+/-0.04 mag for these clusters. The comparison of observed colour-magnitude diagrams (CMDs) with solar metallicity isochrones yields log(Age) = 7.40+/-0.30, 7.70+/-0.20, and 7.85+/-0.25 yr and corresponding distances 2847+/-238, 2622+/-156, and 1561+/-74 pc for IC 1…
Using offset-corrected Gaia-EDR3 parallax measurements and spectrophotometric methods, we have determined distances for 69 massive stars in the Carina OB1 association and associated clusters: Trumpler 16 (21 stars), Trumpler 14 (20 stars), Trumpler 15 (3 stars), Bochum 11 (5 stars), and South Pillars region (20 stars). Past distance estimates to the Carina Nebula range from 2.2 to 3.6 kpc, with uncertainties arising from photometry and anomalous dust extinction. The EDR3 parallax solutions show considerable improvement over DR2, with typical errors $σ_{\varpi}/\varpi \approx$~3-5%. The O-type …

We measure the projected half-light radii of young star clusters in 31 galaxies from the Legacy Extragalactic UV Survey (LEGUS). We implement a custom pipeline specifically designed to be robust against contamination, which allows us to measure radii for 6097 clusters. This is the largest sample of young star cluster radii currently available. We find that most (but not all) galaxies share a common cluster radius distribution, with the peak at around 3 pc. We find a clear mass-radius relation of the form $R_{\mathrm{eff}} \propto M^{0.24}$. This relation is present at all cluster ages younger …
For application to surveys of interstellar matter and Galactic structure, we compute new spectrophotometric distances to 139 OB stars frequently used as background targets for UV spectroscopy. Many of these stars have updated spectral types and digital photometry with reddening corrections from the Galactic O-Star (GOS) spectroscopic survey. We compare our new photometric distances to values used in previous IUE and FUSE surveys and to parallax distances derived from Gaia-DR2, after applying a standard (0.03 mas) offset from the quasar celestial reference frame. We find substantial differences…
Many disc galaxies in clusters have been found with bulges of similar age or younger than their surrounding discs, at odds with field galaxies of similar morphology and their expected inside-out formation. We use the EAGLE simulations to test potential origins for this difference in field and cluster galaxies. We find, in agreement with observations, that on average disc-dominated field galaxies in the simulations have older inner regions, while similar galaxies in groups and clusters have similarly aged or younger inner regions. This environmental difference is a result of outside-in quenchin…
In compact and dense star-forming clouds a global star cluster wind could be suppressed. In this case the stellar feedback is unable to expel the leftover gas from the cluster. Young massive stars remain embedded into a dense residual gas and stir it moving in the gravitational well of the system. Here we present a self-consistent model for the molecular gas distribution in such young, enshrouded stellar clusters. It is assumed that the cloud collapse terminates and the star formation ceases when a balance between the turbulent pressure and gravity and between the turbulent energy dissipation …
The low-mass members of OB associations, expected to be a major component of their total population, are in most cases poorly studied because of the difficulty of selecting these faint stars in crowded sky regions. Our knowledge of many OB associations relies only on a relatively small number of massive members. We study here the Sco OB1 association, with the aim of a better characterization of its properties such as global size and shape, member clusters and their morphology, age and formation history, and total mass. We use deep optical and NIR photometry from the VPHAS+ and VVV surveys, ove…
I present the latest results from our group about the multiple stellar populations in the old Milky Way globular clusters (GCs) and in the young systems both in the Magellanic Clouds and in the Milky Way. For the ancient GCs in our Galaxy I summarize the chemical properties of the stellar populations as observed on the chromosome map. Both Type I and Type II GCs are discussed. For the youngest clusters I will briefly report our latest spectroscopic analysis on the Large Magellanic Cloud cluster NGC1818 and the Galactic open cluster NGC6705 (M11), which supports the co-existence of stellar popu…
