In this paper we study the ring $\mathcal{P}$ of combinatorial convex polytopes. We introduce the algebra of operators $\mathcal{D}$ generated by the operators $d_k$ that send an $n$-dimensional polytope $P^n$ to the sum of all its $(n-k)$-dimensional faces. It turns out that $\mathcal{D}$ is isomorphic to the universal Leibnitz-Hopf algebra with the antipode $χ(d_k)=(-1)^kd_k$. Using the operators $d_k$ we build the generalized $f$-polynomial, which is a ring homomorphism from $\mathcal{P}$ to the ring $\Qsym[t_1,t_2,...][α]$ of quasi-symmetric functions with coefficients in $\mathbb Z[α]$. The images of two polytopes coincide if and only if their flag $f$-vectors are equal. We describe the image of this homomorphism over the integers and prove that over the rationals it is a free polynomial algebra with dimension of the $n$-th graded component equal to the $n$-th Fibonacci number. This gives a representation of the Fibonacci series as an infinite product. The homomorphism is an isomorphism on the graded group $BB$ generated by the polytopes introduced by Bayer and Billera to find the linear span of flag $f$-vectors of convex polytopes. This gives the group $BB$ a structure of the ring isomorphic to $f(\mathcal{P})$. We show that the ring of polytopes has a natural Hopf comodule structure over the Rota-Hopf algebra of posets. As a corollary we build a ring homomorphism $l_α\colon\mathcal{P}\to\mathcal{R}[α]$ such that $F(l_α(P))=f(P)^*$, where $F$ is the Ehrenborg quasi-symmetric function.
The rank of a $d$-dimensional polytope $P$ is defined by $F-(d+1)$, where $F$ denotes the number of facets of $P$. In this paper, We focus on the toric rings of $(0,1)$-polytopes with small rank. We study their normality, the torsionfreeness of their divisor class groups and the classification of their isomorphism classes.
In the present paper, we give some sufficient conditions for $\operatorname{Cl}(\Bbbk[P])$ to be torsionfree, where $\operatorname{Cl}(\Bbbk[P])$ denote the divisor class group of the toric ring $\Bbbk[P]$ of an integral polytope $P$. We prove that $\operatorname{Cl}(\Bbbk[P])$ is torsionfree if $P$ is compressed, and $\operatorname{Cl}(\Bbbk[P])$ is torsionfree if $P$ is a $(0,1)$-polytope which has at most $\dim P+2$ facets. Moreover, we characterize the toric rings of $(0,1)$-polytopes in the case $\operatorname{Cl}(\Bbbk[P])\cong \mathbb{Z}$.
Let $R$ be the Ehrhart ring of the stable set polytope of a cycle graph which is not Gorenstein. We describe the non-Gorenstein locus of $\mathrm{Spec} R$. Further, we show that $R$ is almost Gorenstein. Moreover, we show that the conjecture of Hibi and Tsuchiya is true.
In this paper, we give a criterion of the nearly Gorenstein property of the Ehrhart ring of the stable set polytope of an h-perfect graph: the Ehrhart ring of the stable set polytope of an h-perfect graph $G$ with connected components $G^{(1)}, \ldots, G^{(\ell)}$ is nearly Gorenstein if and only if (1) for each $i$, the Ehrhart ring of the stable set polytope of $G^{(i)}$ is Gorenstein and (2) $|ω(G^{(i)})-ω(G^{(j)})|\leq 1$ for any $i$ and $j$, where $ω(G^{(i)})$ is the clique number of $G^{(i)}$. We also show that the Segre product of Cohen-Macaulay graded rings with linear non-zerodivisor …
In this paper, we give a criterion of the Gorenstein property of the Ehrhart ring of the stable set polytope of an h-perfect graph: the Ehrhart ring of the stable set polytope of an h-perfect graph $G$ is Gorenstein if and only if (1) sizes of maximal cliques are constant (say $n$) and (2) (a) $n=1$, (b) $n=2$ and there is no odd cycle without chord and length at least 7 or (c) $n\geq 3$ and there is no odd cycle without chord and length at least 5.
In this paper, we study nearly Gorensteinness of Ehrhart rings arising from lattice polytopes. We give necessary conditions and sufficient conditions on lattice polytopes for their Ehrhart rings to be nearly Gorenstein. Using this, we give an efficient method for constructing nearly Gorenstein polytopes. Moreover, we determine the structure of nearly Gorenstein (0, 1)-polytopes and characterise nearly Gorensteinness of edge polytopes and graphic matroids.
Let $P$ be a finite poset, $K$ a field, and $O(P)$ (resp. $C(P)$) the order (resp. chain) polytope of $P$. We study the non-Gorenstein locus of $E_K[O(P)]$ (resp. $E_K[C(P)]$), the Ehrhart ring of $O(P)$ (resp. $C(P)$) over $K$, which are each normal toric rings associated $P$. In particular, we show that the dimension of non-Gorenstein loci of $E_K[O(P)]$ and $E_K[C(P)]$ are the same. Further, we show that $E_K[C(P)]$ is nearly Gorenstein if and only if $P$ is the disjoint union of pure posets $P_1, \ldots, P_s$ with $|\mathrm{rank} P_i-\mathrm{rank} P_j|\leq 1$ for any $i$ and $j$.
Toric topology assigns to each $n$-dimensional combinatorial simple convex polytope $P$ with $m$ facets an $(m+n)$-dimensional moment-angle manifold $\mathcal{Z}_P$ with an action of a compact torus $T^m$ such that $\mathcal{Z}_P/T^m$ is a convex polytope of combinatorial type $P$. We study the notion of $B$-rigidity. A property of a polytope $P$ is called $B$-rigid, if any isomorphism of graded rings $H^*(\mathcal{Z}_P,\mathbb Z)= H^*(\mathcal{Z}_Q,\mathbb Z)$ for a simple $n$-polytope $Q$ implies that it also has this property. We study families of $3$-dimensional polytopes defined by their …
The main objects of the present paper are (i) Hibi rings (toric rings arising from order polytopes of posets), (ii) stable set rings (toric rings arising from stable set polytopes of perfect graphs), and (iii) edge rings (toric rings arising from edge polytopes of graphs satisfying the odd cycle condition). The goal of the present paper is to analyze those three toric rings and to discuss their structures in the case where their class groups have small rank. We prove that the class groups of (i), (ii) and (iii) are torsionfree. More precisely, we give descriptions of their class groups. Moreov…
Given a root system $Φ$ of type $A_n$, $B_n$, $C_n$, or $D_n$ in Euclidean space $E$, let $W$ be the associated Weyl group. For a point $p \in E$ not orthogonal to any of the roots in $Φ$, we consider the $W$-permutohedron $P_W$, which is the convex hull of the $W$-orbit of $p$. The representation of $W$ on the rational cohomology ring $H^\ast(X_Φ)$ of the toric variety $X_Φ$ associated to (the normal fan to) $P_W$ has been studied by various authors. Let $\{s_1,\ldots,s_n\}$ be a complete set of simple reflections in $W$. For $K \subseteq [n]$, let $W_K$ be the standard parabolic subgroup of …

We prove quadratic generation for the ideal of the Cox ring of the blow-up of $\mathbb{P}^3$ at $7$ points, solving a conjecture of Lesieutre and Park. To do this we compute Khovanskii bases, implementing techniques which proved successful in the case of Del Pezzo surfaces. Such bases give us degenerations to toric varieties whose associated polytopes encode toric degenerations with respect to all projective embeddings. We study the edge-graphs of these polytopes and we introduce the Mukai edge graph.
We study a natural set of refinements of the Ehrhart series of a closed polytope, first considered by Chapoton. We compute the refined series in full generality for a simplex of dimension d, a cross-polytope of dimension d, respectively a hypercube of dimension d<4, using commutative algebra. We deduce summation formulae for products of q-integers with different arguments, generalizing a classical identity due to MacMahon and Carlitz. We also present a characterisation of a certain refined Eulerian polynomial in algebraic terms.
One approach to Schubert calculus is to realize Schubert classes as concrete combinatorial objects such as Schubert polynomials. Through an identification of the cohomology ring of the type A full flag variety with the polytope ring of the Gelfand-Tsetlin polytopes, Kiritchenko-Smirnov-Timorin realized each Schubert class as a sum of reduced (dual) Kogan faces. In this paper, we explicitly describe string parametrizations of opposite Demazure crystals, which give a natural generalization of reduced dual Kogan faces. We also relate reduced Kogan faces with Demazure crystals using the theory of …
