We extend the definition of tridendriform bialgebra by introducing a weight q. The subspace of primitive elements of a q-tridendriform bialgebra is equipped with an associative product and a natural structure of brace algebra, related by a distributive law. This data is called q-Gerstenhaber-Voronov algebras. We prove the equivalence between the categories of connected q-tridendriform bialgebras and of q-Gerstenhaber-Voronov algebras. The space spanned by surjective maps, as well as the space spanned by parking functions, have natural structures of q-tridendriform bialgebras, denoted ST(q) and PQSym(q)*, in such a way that ST(q) is a sub-tridendriform bialgebra of PQSym(q)*. Finally we show that the bialgebra of M-permutations defined by T. Lam and P. Pylyavskyy may be endowed with a natural structure of q-tridendriform algebra which is a quotient of ST(q).
This paper introduces the braidings of dendriform algebras and tridendriform algebras. By studying free braided dendriform algebras, we obtain braidings of the Hopf algebras of Loday and Ronco of planar binary rooted trees. We also give a variation of the braiding of Foissy for the noncommutative Connes-Kreimer (a.k.a the Foissy-Holtkamp) Hopf algebra of planar rooted forests so that the well-known isomorphism between this Hopf algebra and the Loday-Ronco Hopf algebra is extended to the braided context. As free braided tridendriform algebras, we also give braided extension of the Hopf algebra …
We develop a theory of multigraded (i.e., $N^l$-graded) combinatorial Hopf algebras modeled on the theory of graded combinatorial Hopf algebras developed by Aguiar, Bergeron, and Sottile [Compos. Math. 142 (2006), 1--30]. In particular we introduce the notion of canonical $k$-odd and $k$-even subalgebras associated with any multigraded combinatorial Hopf algebra, extending simultaneously the work of Aguiar et al. and Ehrenborg. Among our results are specific categorical results for higher level quasisymmetric functions, several basis change formulas, and a generalization of the descents-to-pea…
In this work a combinatorial description is provided of a Faa di Bruno type Hopf algebra which naturally appears in the context of Fliess operators in nonlinear feedback control theory. It is a connected graded commutative and non-cocommutative Hopf algebra defined on rooted circle trees. A cancellation free forest formula for its antipode is given.
In this short note, we construct quasi-idempotent Rota-Baxter operators by quasi-idempotent elements and show that every finite dimensional Hopf algebra admits nontrivial Rota-Baxter algebra structures and tridendriform algebra structures. Several concrete examples are provided, including finite quantum groups and Iwahori-Hecke algebras.
The purpose of this paper is two fold: we study the behaviour of the forgetful functor from S-modules to graded vector spaces in the context of algebras over an operad and derive from this theory the construction of combinatorial Hopf algebras. As a byproduct we obtain freeness and cofreeness results for these Hopf algebras. Let O denote the forgetful functor from S-modules to graded vector spaces. Left modules over an operad P are treated as P-algebras in the category of S-modules. We generalize the results obtained by Patras and Reutenauer in the associative case to any operad P: the functor…
By means of a new notion of subforests of an angularly decorated rooted forest, we give a combinatorial construction of a coproduct on the free Rota-Baxter algebra on angularly decorated rooted forests. We show that this coproduct equips the Rota-Baxter algebra with a bialgebra structure and further a Hopf algebra structure.
This is a study on pattern Hopf algebras in combinatorial structures. We introduce the notion of combinatorial presheaf, by adapting the algebraic framework of species to the study of substructures in combinatorics. Afterwards, we consider functions that count the number of patterns of objects and endow the linear span of these functions with a product and a coproduct. In this way, any well behaved family of combinatorial objects that admits a notion of substructure generates a Hopf algebra, and this association is functorial. For example, the Hopf algebra on permutations studied by Vargas in …
We define a "combinatorial Hopf algebra" as a Hopf algebra which is free (or cofree) and equipped with a given isomorphism to the free algebra over the indecomposables (resp. the cofree coalgebra over the primitives). The choice of such an isomorphism implies the existence a finer algebraic structure on the Hopf algebra and on the indecomposables (resp. the primitives). For instance a cofree-cocommutative right-sided combinatorial Hopf algebra is completely determined by its primitive part which is a pre-Lie algebra. The key example is the Connes-Kreimer Hopf algebra. The study of all these co…
Faà di Bruno subalgebras of the Hopf algebra of planar trees from combinatorial Dyson-Schwinger equations
The graph algebra is a commutative, cocommutative, graded, connected incidence Hopf algebra, whose basis elements correspond to finite simple graphs and whose Hopf product and coproduct admit simple combinatorial descriptions. We give a new formula for the antipode in the graph algebra in terms of acyclic orientations; our formula contains many fewer terms than Takeuchi's and Schmitt's more general formulas for the antipode in an incidence Hopf algebra. Applications include several formulas (some old and some new) for evaluations of the Tutte polynomial.
Bell polynomials appear in several combinatorial constructions throughout mathematics. Perhaps most naturally in the combinatorics of set partitions, but also when studying compositions of diffeomorphisms on vector spaces and manifolds, and in the study of cumulants and moments in probability theory. We construct commutative and noncommutative Bell polynomials and explain how they give rise to Faà di Bruno Hopf algebras. We use the language of incidence Hopf algebras, and along the way provide a new description of antipodes in noncommutative incidence Hopf algebras, involving quasideterminants…
We identify a collection of primitive elements generating the Hopf algebra NCSym of symmetric functions in noncommuting variables and give a combinatorial formula for the antipode.
The Hopf algebra of word-quasi-symmetric functions ($\WQSym$), a noncommutative generalization of the Hopf algebra of quasi-symmetric functions, can be endowed with an internal product that has several compatibility properties with the other operations on $\WQSym$. This extends constructions familiar and central in the theory of free Lie algebras, noncommutative symmetric functions and their various applications fields, and allows to interpret $\WQSym$ as a convolution algebra of linear endomorphisms of quasi-shuffle algebras. We then use this interpretation to study the fine structure of quas…
A combinatorial interpretation is given of Devlin's word problem underlying the classical center-focus problem of Poincare for non-autonomous differential equations. It turns out that the canonical polynomials of Devlin are from the point of view of connected graded Hopf algebras intimately related to the graded components of a Hopf algebra antipode applied to the formal power series of Ferfera. The link is made by passing through control theory since the Abel equation, which describes a center, is equivalent to an output feedback equation, and the Hopf algebra of output feedback is derived fr…
We give a combinatorial description for the weak order on the hyperoctahedral group. This characterization is then used to analyze the order-theoretic properties of the shifted products of hyperoctahedral groups. It is shown that each shifted product is a disjoint union of some intervals, which can be convex embedded into a hyperoctahedral group. As an application, we investigate the monomial basis for the Hopf algebra $\mathfrak{H}Sym$ of signed permutations, related to the fundamental basis via Möbius inversion on the weak order on hyperoctahedral groups. It turns out that the image of a mon…
We present an expository overview of the monoidal structures in the category of linearly compact vector spaces. Bimonoids in this category are the natural duals of infinite-dimensional bialgebras. We classify the relations on words whose equivalence classes generate linearly compact bialgebras under shifted shuffling and deconcatenation. We also extend some of the theory of combinatorial Hopf algebras to bialgebras that are not connected or of finite graded dimension. Finally, we discuss several examples of quasi-symmetric functions, not necessarily of bounded degree, that may be constructed v…
In this paper we report on results of our investigation into the algebraic structure supported by the combinatorial geometry of the cyclohedron. Our new graded algebra structures lie between two well known Hopf algebras: the Malvenuto-Reutenauer algebra of permutations and the Loday-Ronco algebra of binary trees. Connecting algebra maps arise from a new generalization of the Tonks projection from the permutohedron to the associahedron, which we discover via the viewpoint of the graph associahedra of Carr and Devadoss. At the same time that viewpoint allows exciting geometrical insights into th…
Recent advances in stochastic PDEs, Hopf algebras of typed trees and integral equations have inspired the study of algebraic structures with replicating operations. To understand their algebraic and combinatorial nature, we first use rooted forests with multiple decoration sets to construct free Hopf algebras with multiple Hochschild 1-cocycle conditions. Applying the universal property of the underlying operated algebras and the method of Gröbner-Shirshov bases, we then construct free objects in the category of matching Rota-Baxter algebras which is a generalization of Rota-Baxter algebras to…
This paper is devoted to the study of the quasitriangularity of Hopf algebras via Hopf quiver approaches. We give a combinatorial description of the Hopf quivers whose path coalgebras give rise to coquasitriangular Hopf algebras. With a help of the quiver setting, we study general coquasitriangular pointed Hopf algebras and obtain a complete classification of the finite-dimensional ones over an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0.
Three equivalent methods allow to compute the antipode of the Hopf algebras of Feynman diagrams in perturbative quantum field theory (QFT): the Dyson-Salam formula, the Bogoliubov formula, and the Zimmermann forest formula. Whereas the first two hold generally for arbitrary connected graded Hopf algebras, the third one requires extra structure properties of the underlying Hopf algebra but has the nice property to reduce drastically the number of terms in the expression of the antipode (it is optimal in that sense). The present article is concerned with the forest formula: we show that it genera…
A noncommutative and noncocommutative Hopf algebra on finite topologies H_T is introduced and studied (freeness, cofreeness, self-duality...). Generalizing Stanley's definition of P-partitions associated to a special poset, we define the notion of T-partitions associated to a finite topology, and deduce a Hopf algebra morphism from H_T to the Hopf algebra of packed words WQSym. Generalizing Stanley's decomposition by linear extensions, we deduce a factorization of this morphism, which induces a combinatorial isomorphism from the shuffle product to the quasi-shuffle product of WQSym. It is stro…
Parallel to operated algebras built on top of planar rooted trees via the grafting operator $B^+$, we introduce and study $\vee$-algebras and more generally $\vee_Ω$-algebras based on planar binary trees. Involving an analogy of the Hochschild 1-cocycle condition, cocycle $\vee_Ω$-bialgebras (resp.~$\vee_Ω$-Hopf algebras) are also introduced and their free objects are constructed via decorated planar binary trees. As a special case, the well-known Loday-Ronco Hopf algebra $H_{LR}$ is a free cocycle $\vee$-Hopf algebra. By means of admissible cuts, a combinatorial description of the coproduct $…
We classify combinatorial Dyson-Schwinger equations giving a Hopf subalgebra of the Hopf algebra of Feynman graphs of the considered Quantum Field Theory. We first treat single equations with an arbitrary number (eventually infinite) of insertion operators. we distinguish two cases; in the first one, the Hopf subalgebra generated by the solution is isomorphic to the Faà di Bruno Hopf algebra or to the Hopf algebra of symmetric functions; in the second case, we obtain the dual of the enveloping algebra of a particular associative algebra (seen as a Lie algebra). We also treat systems with an ar…
The main ideas developed in this habilitation thesis consist in endowing combinatorial objects (words, permutations, trees, Young tableaux, etc.) with operations in order to construct algebraic structures. This process allows, by studying algebraically the structures thus obtained (changes of bases, generating sets, presentations, morphisms, representations), to collect combinatorial information about the underlying objects. The algebraic structures the most encountered here are magmas, posets, associative algebras, dendriform algebras, Hopf bialgebras, operads, and pros. This work explores th…
In this paper, we establish a structure theorem for connected graded Hopf algebras over a field of characteristic $0$ by claiming the existence of a family of homogeneous generators and a total order on the index set that satisfy some desirable conditions. The approach to the structure theorem is constructive, based on the combinatorial properties of Lyndon words and the standard bracketing on words. As a surprising consequence of the structure theorem, we show that connected graded Hopf algebras of finite Gelfand-Kirillov dimension over a field of characteristic $0$ are all iterated Hopf Ore …
For any Koszul Artin-Schelter regular algebra A, we consider a version of the universal Hopf algebra aut(A) coacting on A, introduced by Manin. To study the representations (i.e. finite dimensional comodules) of this Hopf algebra, we use the Tannaka-Krein formalism. Specifically, we construct an explicit combinatorial rigid monoidal category U, equipped with a functor M to finite dimensional vector spaces such that aut(A)= coend_U(M). Using this pair (U,M) we show that aut(A) is quasi-hereditary as a coalgebra and in addition is derived equivalent to the representation category of U.
