Superization and (q,t)-specialization in combinatorial Hopf algebras

We extend a classical construction on symmetric functions, the superization process, to several combinatorial Hopf algebras, and obtain analogs of the hook-content formula for the (q,t)-specializations of various bases. Exploiting the dendriform structures yields in particular (q,t)-analogs of the Bjorner-Wachs q-hook-length formulas for binary trees, and similar formulas for plane trees.

Quasisymmetric Functions from Combinatorial Hopf Monoids and Ehrhart Theory

We investigate quasisymmetric functions coming from combinatorial Hopf monoids. We show that these invariants arise naturally in Ehrhart theory, and that some of their specializations are Hilbert functions for relative simplicial complexes. This class of complexes, called forbidden composition complexes, also forms a Hopf monoid, thus demonstrating a link between Hopf algebras, Ehrhart theory, and commutative algebra. We also study various specializations of quasisymmetric functions.

A Hopf algebra of parking functions

If the moments of a probability measure on $\R$ are interpreted as a specialization of complete homogeneous symmetric functions, its free cumulants are, up to sign, the corresponding specializations of a sequence of Schur positive symmetric functions $(f_n)$. We prove that $(f_n)$ is the Frobenius characteristic of the natural permutation representation of $\SG_n$ on the set of prime parking functions. This observation leads us to the construction of a Hopf algebra of parking functions, which we study in some detail.

A Noncommutative Symmetric System over the Grossman-Larson Hopf Algebra of Labeled Rooted Trees

In this paper, we construct explicitly a noncommutative symmetric (${\mathcal N}$CS) system over the Grossman-Larson Hopf algebra of labeled rooted trees. By the universal property of the ${\mathcal N}$CS system formed by the generating functions of certain noncommutative symmetric functions, we obtain a specialization of noncommutative symmetric functions by labeled rooted trees. Categorifications of ${\textsf {QSym}}$ using supercharacter theories and a new basis for ${\textsf {NSym}}_{\mathbb{C}(q,t)}$

Let us fix a positive integer $ν>1$. For each positive integer $n>1$, we consider a normal supercharacter theory $\mathcal{S}_n$ of $G_n$, where $G_n$ is the direct-product of $n-1$ copies of the cyclic group of order $ν$. Representation theory of the 0-Ariki-Koike-Shoji algebras

We investigate the representation theory of certain specializations of the Ariki-Koike algebras, obtained by setting $q=0$ in a suitably normalized version of Shoji's presentation. We classify the simple and projective modules, and describe restrictions, induction products, Cartan invariants and decomposition matrices. This allows us to identify the Grothendieck rings of the towers of algebras in terms of certain graded Hopf algebras known as the Mantaci-Reutenauer descent algebras, and Poirier Quasi-symmetric functions.

Counting faces of nestohedra

A new algebraic formula for the numbers of faces of nestohedra is obtained. The enumerator function $F(P_B)$ of positive lattice points in interiors of maximal cones of the normal fan of the nestohedron $P_B$ associated to a building set $B$ is described as a morphism from the certain combinatorial Hopf algebra of building sets to quasisymmetric functions. We define the $q$-analog $F_q(P_B)$ and derive its determining recurrence relations. The $f$-polynomial of the nestohedron $P_B$ appears as the principal specialization of the quasisymmetric function $F_q(P_B)$.
