We present the first rigorous derivation of a number of universal relations for a class of models with continuously varying indices (among which are interacting planar Ising models, quantum spin chains and 1D Fermi systems), for which an exact solution is not known, except in a few special cases. Most of these formulas were conjectured by Luther and Peschel, Kadanoff, Haldane, but only checked in the special solvable models; one of them, related to the anisotropic Ashkin-Teller model, is novel.
We propose a family of "exactly solvable" probability distributions to approximate partition functions of two-dimensional statistical mechanics models. While these distributions lie strictly outside the mean-field framework, their free energies can be computed in a time that scales linearly with the system size. This construction is based on a simple but nontrivial solution to the marginal problem. We formulate two non-linear constraints on the set of locally consistent marginal probabilities that simultaneously (i) ensure the existence of a consistent global probability distribution and (ii) …
The present study regards the zeroth order mean field approximation of a dipole-type interaction model, which is analytically solved in the canonical and microcanonical ensembles. After writing the canonical partition function, the free and internal energies, magnetization and the specific heat are derived and graphically represented. A crucial derivation is the calculation of the free energy, which is variationally evaluated, and it is shown that the exact result coincides with the approximate trend when $N$ tends to infinity. In the microcanonical ensemble, the entropy as other thermodynamic…
We review recent results on an exactly solvable model of nonequilibrium statistical mechanics, specifically the classical Rule 54 reversible cellular automaton and some of its quantum extensions. We discuss the exact microscopic description of nonequilibrium dynamics as well as the equilibrium and nonequilibrium stationary states. This allows us to obtain a rigorous handle on the corresponding emergent hydrodynamic description, which is treated as well. Specifically, we focus on two different paradigms of Rule 54 dynamics. Firstly, we consider a finite chain driven by stochastic boundaries, wh…
We study the emergence over time of a universal, uniform distribution of quantum states supported on a finite subsystem, induced by projectively measuring the rest of the system. Dubbed deep thermalization, this phenomenon represents a form of equilibration in quantum many-body systems stronger than regular thermalization, which only constrains the ensemble-averaged values of observables. While there exist quantum circuit models of dynamics in one dimension where this phenomenon can be shown to arise exactly, these are special in that deep thermalization occurs at precisely the same time as re…
An infinite number of spin chains are solved and it is derived that the ground-state phase transitions belong to the universality classes with central charge c=m/2, where m is an integer. The models are diagonalized by automatically obtained transformations, many of which are different from the Jordan-Wigner transformation. The free energies, correlation functions, string order parameters, exponents, central charges, and the phase diagram are obtained. Most of the examples consist of the stabilizers of the cluster state. A unified structure of the one-dimensional XY and cluster-type spin chain…
Inverse statistical approaches to determine protein structure and function from Multiple Sequence Alignments (MSA) are emerging as powerful tools in computational biology. However the underlying assumptions of the relationship between the inferred effective Potts Hamiltonian and real protein structure and energetics remain untested so far. Here we use lattice protein model (LP) to benchmark those inverse statistical approaches. We build MSA of highly stable sequences in target LP structures, and infer the effective pairwise Potts Hamiltonians from those MSA. We find that inferred Potts Hamilto…
We investigate the non-equilibrium dynamics of a class of isolated one-dimensional systems possessing two degenerate ground states, initialized in a low-energy symmetric phase. We report the emergence of a time-scale separation between fast (radiation) and slow (kink or domain wall) degrees of freedom. We find a universal long-time dynamics, largely independent of the microscopic details of the system, in which the kinks control the relaxation of relevant observables and correlations. The resulting late-time dynamics can be described by a set of phenomenological equations, which yield results …
