We consider the lowest order quantum gravitational corrections to Yukawa and Phi^4 interactions. Our results show that quantum gravity leads to contributions to the running coupling constants if the particles are massive and therefore alters the scaling behavior of the Standard Model. Furthermore, we find that the gravitational contributions to the running of the masses vanish.
We study the beta functions of the quartic and Yukawa couplings of General Relativity and Unimodular Gravity coupled to the $λϕ^4$ and Yukawa theories with masses. We show that the General Relativity corrections to those beta functions as obtained from the 1PI functional by using the standard MS multiplicative renormalization scheme of Dimensional Regularization are gauge dependent and, further, that they can be removed by a non-multiplicative, though local, field redefinition. An analogous analysis is carried out when General Relativity is replaced with Unimodular Gravity. Thus we show that a…

We study the behaviour of Yukawa and Newtonian gravitational forces in a cubic box with fully periodic boundaries commonly encountered in N-body simulations of the structure formation. Placing a single gravitating body at the origin of coordinates, we reveal the scales at which non-negligible deviation from the Yukawa law occurs when the Newtonian approximation is employed. We discuss the results in terms of the corresponding physical distances today as well as earlier, back at the matter-dominated stage. Revisiting the problem for free boundaries, we also compare the periodic and plain gravit…
The solution of the equation for the phion propagator in the leading order of the $1/N$ -- expansion for a vector-matrix model with interaction $g(ϕ_a)^*ϕ_bχ_{ab}$ in four dimensions shows a change of the asymptotic behavior in the deep Euclidean region in a vicinity of a certain critical value of the coupling constant.
We consider the renormalization of the one-loop effective action for the Yukawa interaction. We compute the beta functions in the generalized DeWitt-Schwinger subtraction scheme. For the quantized scalar field we obtain that all the beta functions exhibit decoupling for heavy fields as stated by the Appelquist-Carazzone theorem including also the gravitational couplings. For the quantized Dirac field, decoupling appears for almost all of them. We obtain the atypical result that the mass parameter of the background scalar field does not decouple.
We consider a quintessence model with Yukawa interaction between dark energy and dark matter and constrain this model by employing the recent cosmological data including the updated cosmic microwave background (CMB) measurements from Planck 2015, the weak gravitational lensing measurements from Kilo Degree Survey (KiDS) and redshift-space distortions. We find that an interaction in the dark sector is compatible with observations. The updated Planck data can significantly improve the constraints compared with the previous results from Planck 2013, while the KiDS data has less constraining power…
We compute the lowest order gravitational UV divergent radiative corrections to the S matrix element of the $fermion + fermion\rightarrow fermion + fermion$ scattering process in the massive Yukawa theory, coupled either to Unimodular Gravity or to General Relativity. We show that both Unimodular Gravity and General Relativity give rise to the same UV divergent contribution in Dimensional Regularization. This is a nontrivial result, since in the classical action of Unimodular Gravity coupled to the Yukawa theory, the graviton field does not couple neither to the mass operator nor to the Yukawa…
We discover that asymptotically safe quantum gravity could predict the top-quark mass. For a broad range of microscopic gravitational couplings, quantum gravity could provide an ultraviolet completion for the Standard Model by triggering asymptotic freedom in the gauge couplings and bottom Yukawa and asymptotic safety in the top-Yukawa and Higgs-quartic coupling. We find that in a part of this range, a difference of the top and bottom mass of approximately $170\, \rm GeV$ is generated and the Higgs mass is determined in terms of the top mass. Assuming no new physics below the Planck scale, we …
The asymptotic behavior of the elastic scattering amplitude by the exchange of graviton between two scalar particles at high energies and fixed momentum transfers is reconsidered in the Logunov-Tavkhelidze equation in the linearized gravitational theory. The corrections to the eikonal approximation in the quasi-potential approach of relative order $1/p$ is developed with the principal contributions at high energy. The eikonal expression of scattering amplitude and the formal first correction are derived. The Yukawa potential is applied to discuss the results.
The decoupling of heavy fields as required by the Appelquist-Carazzone theorem plays a fundamental role in the construction of any effective field theory. However, it is not a trivial task to implement a renormalization prescription that produces the expected decoupling of massive fields, and it is even more difficult in curved spacetime. Focused on this idea, we consider the renormalization of the one-loop effective action for the Yukawa interaction with a background scalar field in curved space. We compute the beta functions within a generalized DeWitt-Schwinger subtraction procedure and dis…
We study corrections to the soft graviton theorem at all loop orders in Yukawa and scalar theories, both in the high energy and low energy regions. It is found that the tree level soft theorem is corrected by matrix elements coupled to the Riemann curvature tensor of linearized gravity. Further corrections appear in the high energy region and we develop a power counting technique to classify all such loop corrections according to their order of magnitude. This leads to the construction of factorized contributions to the soft theorem, to which we apply an analysis analogous to Low's theorem bas…
Thanks to their interpretation as first order correction of General Relativity at high energies, quadratic theories of gravity gained much attention in recent times. Particular attention has been drawn to the Einstein-Weyl theory, where the addition of the squared Weyl tensor to the action opens the possibility of having non-Schwarzschild black holes in the classical spectrum of the theory. Static and spherically symmetric solutions of this theory have been studied and classified in terms of their small scales behaviour; however, a classification of these solutions in terms of the asymptotic g…

We consider the one-loop renormalization of a real scalar field interacting with a Dirac spinor field in curved spacetime. A general Yukawa interaction is considered which includes both a scalar and a pseudoscalar coupling. The scalar field is assumed to be non-minimally coupled to the gravitational field and to have a general quartic self-interaction potential. All of the one-loop renormalization group functions are evaluated and in the special case where there is no mass scale present in the classical theory (apart from the fields) we evaluate the one-loop effective action up to and includin…
We study a universe filled with cold dark matter in the form of discrete inhomogeneities (e.g., galaxies) and dark energy in the form of a continuous perfect fluid. We develop a first-order scalar perturbation theory in the weak gravity limit around a spatially flat Friedmann universe. Our approach works at all cosmic scales and incorporates linear and nonlinear effects with respect to energy density fluctuations. The gravitational potential can be split into individual contributions from each matter source. Each potential is characterized by a Yukawa interaction with the same range, which is …
