We consider a quintessence model with Yukawa interaction between dark energy and dark matter and constrain this model by employing the recent cosmological data including the updated cosmic microwave background (CMB) measurements from Planck 2015, the weak gravitational lensing measurements from Kilo Degree Survey (KiDS) and redshift-space distortions. We find that an interaction in the dark sector is compatible with observations. The updated Planck data can significantly improve the constraints compared with the previous results from Planck 2013, while the KiDS data has less constraining power than Planck. The Yukawa interaction model is found to be moderately favored by Planck and able to alleviate the discordance between weak lensing measurements and CMB measurements as previously inferred from the standard Lambda cold dark matter model. N-body simulations for Yukawa interaction model is also performed. We find that using the halo density profile is plausible to improve the constraints significantly in the future.
We consider a quintessence model for dark energy interacting with dark matter via a Yukawa interaction. To put constraints on this model we use the CMB measurements from the Planck satellite together with BAO, SNIa and $H_0$ data. We conclude that this is a viable model and an appropriate scalar potential can favor the interacting scenario.
The origin of the neutrino mass, dark matter (DM), and dark energy (DE) are among the most challenging problems of fundamental physics. We address these questions from analyses of the models where the neutrino mass is generated via Yukawa coupling to the quintessence field which represents the DE. It has been shown in a recent work on the toy model with a single Dirac fermion coupled to the quintessence that by choosing parameters of the DE potential to match the present DE density, the model allows to lock the neutrino mass at m ~0.01 eV and yields consistent estimates for other parameters of…
We present the first analysis of extended stellar kinematics of elliptical galaxies where a Yukawa--like correction to the Newtonian gravitational potential derived from f(R)-gravity is considered as an alternative to dark matter. In this framework, we model long-slit data and planetary nebulae data out to 7 Re of three galaxies with either decreasing or flat dispersion profiles. We use the corrected Newtonian potential in a dispersion-kurtosis Jeans analysis to account for the mass-anisotropy degeneracy. We find that these modified potentials are able to fit nicely all three elliptical galaxi…
The red-shift space distortions in the galaxy power spectrum can be used to measure the growth rate of matter density perturbations delta_m. For dynamical dark energy models in General Relativity we provide a convenient analytic formula of f(z) sigma_8(z) written as a function of the redshift z, where f=d ln delta_m/d ln a (a is the cosmological scale factor) and sigma_8 is the rms amplitude of over-density at the scale 8 h^{-1} Mpc. Our formula can be applied to the models of imperfect fluids, quintessence, and k-essence, provided that the dark energy equation of state w does not vary signifi…

We consider a cosmology in which dark matter and a quintessence scalar field responsible for the acceleration of the Universe are allowed to interact. Allowing for both conformal and disformal couplings, we perform a global analysis of the constraints on our model using Hubble parameter measurements, baryon acoustic oscillation distance measurements, and a Supernovae Type Ia data set. We find that the additional disformal coupling relaxes the conformal coupling constraints. Moreover we show that, at the background level, a disformal interaction within the dark sector is preferred to both $Λ$CD…
The de Sitter Swampland conjecture compels us to consider dark energy models where $λ(ϕ) \equiv |\nabla_ϕ V|/V$ is bounded below by a positive constant. Moreover, it has been argued for Quintessence models that the constant $λ$ scenario is the least constrained. Here we demonstrate that increasing $λ$ only exacerbates existing tension in the Hubble constant $H_0$. The identification of dark energy models that both evade observational bounds and alleviate $H_0$ tension constitutes a robust test for the Swampland program.
Constraints on the expansion history of the universe from measurements of cosmological distances make predictions for large-scale structure growth. Since these predictions depend on assumptions about dark energy evolution and spatial curvature, they can be used to test general classes of dark energy models by comparing predictions for those models with direct measurements of the growth history. I present predictions from current distance measurements for the growth history of dark energy models including a cosmological constant and quintessence. Although a time-dependent dark energy equation o…
The Quintessence model is one of the simplest and better known alternatives to Einstein's theory for gravity. The properties of the solutions have been studied in great detail in the background, linear and non-linear contexts in cosmology. Here we discuss new phenomenology that is induced by adding disformal terms to the interactions. Among other results, we show analytically and using cosmological simulations ran with the code \texttt{Isis} that the model posses a mechanism through which is it possible to obtain repulsive fifth forces, which are opposite to gravity. Although the equations are…
Any theory invoked to explain cosmic acceleration predicts consistency relations between the expansion history, structure growth, and all related observables. Currently there exist high-quality measurements of the expansion history from Type Ia supernovae, the cosmic microwave background temperature and polarization spectra, and baryon acoustic oscillations. We can use constraints from these datasets to predict what future probes of structure growth should observe. We apply this method to predict what range of cosmic shear power spectra would be expected if we lived in a LambdaCDM universe, wi…
We model the nonlinear growth of cosmic structure in different dark energy models, using large volume N-body simulations. We consider a range of quintessence models which feature both rapidly and slowly varying dark energy equations of state, and compare the growth of structure to that in a universe with a cosmological constant. The adoption of a quintessence model changes the expansion history of the universe, the form of the linear theory power spectrum and can alter key observables, such as the horizon scale and the distance to last scattering. The difference in structure formation can be e…
Recently we proposed a new approach to the testing of dark energy models based on the observational data. In that work we focused particularly on quintessence models for demonstration and invoked a widely used parametrization of the dark energy equation of state. In this paper we take the more recent SN Ia, CMB and BAO data, invoke the same parametrization, and apply this method of consistency test to five categories of dark energy models, including the LCDM model, the generalized Chaplygin gas, and three quintessence models: exponential, power-law and inverse-exponential potentials. We find t…
We examine the Chevallier-Polarski-Linder (CPL) parametrization, in the context of quintessence and barotropic dark energy models, to determine the subset of such models to which it can provide a good fit. The CPL parametrization gives the equation of state parameter $w$ for the dark energy as a linear function of the scale factor $a$, namely $w = w_0 + w_a(1-a)$. In the case of quintessence models, we find that over most of the $w_0$, $w_a$ parameter space the CPL parametrization maps onto a fairly narrow form of behavior for the potential $V(ϕ)$, while a one-dimensional subset of parameter s…
We investigate whether there are any cosmological evidences for a scalar field with a mass and coupling to matter which change accordingly to the properties of the astrophysical system it "lives in", without directly focusing on the underlying mechanism that drives the scalar field scale-dependent properties. We assume a Yukawa type of coupling between the field and matter and also that the scalar field mass grows with density, in order to overcome all gravity constraints within the solar system. We analyse three different gravitational systems assumed as "cosmological indicators": supernovae …
Future galaxy surveys hope to distinguish between the dark energy and modified gravity scenarios for the accelerating expansion of the Universe using the distortion of clustering in redshift space. The aim is to model the form and size of the distortion to infer the rate at which large scale structure grows. We test this hypothesis and assess the performance of current theoretical models for the redshift space distortion using large volume N-body simulations of the gravitational instability process. We simulate competing cosmological models which have identical expansion histories - one is a q…
Numerous upcoming observations, such as WFIRST, BOSS, BigBOSS, LSST, Euclid, and Planck, will constrain dark energy (DE)'s equation of state with great precision. They may well find the ratio of pressure to energy density, $w$, is -1, meaning DE is equivalent to a cosmological constant. However, many time-varying DE models have also been proposed. A single parametrization to test a broad class of them and that is itself motivated by a physical picture is therefore desirable. We suggest the simplest model of DE has the same mechanism as inflation, likely a scalar field slowly rolling down its p…

Direct measurements of Hubble parameters $H(z)$ are very useful for cosmological model parameters inference. Based on them, Sahni, Shafieloo and Starobinski introduced a two-point diagnostic $Omh^2(z_i, z_j)$ as an interesting tool for testing the validity of the $Λ$CDM model. Applying this test they found a tension between observations and predictions of the $Λ$CDM model. We use the most comprehensive compilation $H(z)$ data from baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO) and differential ages (DA) of passively evolving galaxies to study cosmological models using the Hubble parameters itself and to d…
