Time-dependent frequency harmonic oscillators (TDFHO's) are studied through the theory of Lie systems. We show that they are related to a certain kind of equations in the Lie group SL(2,R). Some integrability conditions appear as conditions to be able to transform such equations into simpler ones in a very specific way. As a particular application of our results we find t-dependent constants of the motion for certain one-dimensional TDFHO's. Our approach provides an unifying framework which allows us to apply our developments to all Lie systems associated with equations in SL(2,R) and to generalise our methods to study any Lie system.
Using N. Euler's theorem on the integrability of the general anharmonic oscillator equation \cite{12}, we present three distinct classes of general solutions of the highly nonlinear second order ordinary differential equation $\frac{d^{2}x}{dt^{2}}+f_{1}\left(t\right) \frac{dx}{dt}+f_{2}\left(t\right) x+f_{3}\left(t\right) x^{n}=0$. The first exact solution is obtained from a particular solution of the point transformed equation $d^{2}X/dT^{2}+X^{n}\left(T\right) =0$, $n\notin \left\{-3,-1,0,1\right\} $, which is equivalent to the anharmonic oscillator equation if the coefficients $f_{i}(t)$, …
In this letter we show that the force-free Duffing-van der Pol oscillator is completely integrable for a specific parametric choice. We derive a general solution for this parametric choice. Further, we describe a procedure to construct the transformation which removes the time dependent part from the first integral and provide the general solution by quadrature. The procedure is shown to have a wider applicability through additional examples. We also show that through our method one can deduce linearizing transformations in a simple and straightforward way and illustrate it with a specific exa…
Interesting nonsingular parametric oscillators which are Darboux related to the classical harmonic oscillator and have periodic dissipative/gain features are identified through a modified factorization method. The same method is applied to the upside-down (hyperbolic) `oscillator' for which the obtained Darboux partners show transient underdamped features
A new deformed canonical commutation relation, generalizing various known deformations, is defined together with its structure function of deformation. Then, the related irreducible representations are characterized and classified. Finally, the discrete spectrum of the corresponding deformed harmonic oscillator Hamiltonian is investigated and discussed.
Harmonic oscillator, in 2-dimensional noncommutative phase space with non-vanishing momentum-momentum commutators, is studied using an algebraic approach. The corresponding eigenvalue problem is solved and discussed.
Operadic Lax representations for the harmonic oscillator are used to construct the quantum counterparts of 3d real Lie algebras. The Jacobians of the corresponding quantum algebras are calculated.
In this paper, by searching the relation between the radial part of Higgs harmonic oscillator in the two-dimensional curved space and the generalized CRS harmonic oscillator model, we can find a series of quasi-exact models in two-dimensional curved space based on this relation.
It is explained how the time evolution of the operadic variables may be introduced. As an example, an operadic Lax representation of the harmonic oscillator is considered.
By applying methods already discussed in a previous series of papers by the same authors, we construct here classes of integrable quantum systems which correspond to n fully resonant oscillators with nonlinear couplings. The same methods are also applied to a series of nontrivial integral sets of functions, which can be constructed when additional symmetries are present due to the equality of some of the frequencies. Besides, for n=3 and resonance 1:1:2, an exceptional integrable system is obtained, in which integrability is not explicitly connected with this type of symmetry. In this exceptio…
It is explained how the time evolution of the operadic variables may be introduced by using the operadic Lax equation. The operadic Lax representations for the harmonic oscillator are constructed in 3-dimensional binary anti-commutative algebras. As an example, an operadic Lax representation for the harmonic oscillator in the Lie algebra sl(2) is constructed.

We discuss the maximum kinematical invariance group of the quantum harmonic oscillator from a view point of the Ermakov-type system. A six parameter family of the square integrable oscillator wave functions, which seems cannot be obtained by the standard separation of variables, is presented as an example. The invariance group of generalized driven harmonic oscillator is shown to be isomorphic to the corresponding Schroedinger group of the free particle.
In this article an intertwining operator is constructed which transforms the harmonic oscillator to the Dirac operator (the first order derivative operator). We give also the explicit solutions to the heat and wave equation associated to Dirac operator. As an application the heat and the wave kernels of the harmonic oscillator are computed.
We transform the time-dependent Schroedinger equation for the most general variable quadratic Hamiltonians into a standard autonomous form. As a result, the time-evolution of exact wave functions of generalized harmonic oscillators is determined in terms of solutions of certain Ermakov and Riccati-type systems. In addition, we show that the classical Arnold transformation is naturally connected with Ehrenfest's theorem for generalized harmonic oscillators.
The factorization method of Infeld and Hull is applied to the radial Schrödinger equation for $d$-dimensional isotropic harmonic oscillator and various ladder operators are defined. The radial energy eigenstates are expressed in terms of the generalized Laguerre polynomials and their properties are shown to follow from the expressions involving the ladder operators. In the same way as the harmonic oscillator we also obtain the bound energy eigenstates of the Morse oscillator.
Operadic Lax representations for the harmonic oscillator are used to construct the quantum counterparts of three-dimensional real Lie algebras. The Jacobi operators of these quantum algebras are explicitly calculated.
We determine the kind of parametric oscillators that are generated in the usual factorization procedure of second-order linear differential equations when one introduces a constant shift of the Riccati solution of the classical harmonic oscillator. The mathematical results show that some of these oscillators could be of physical nature. We give the solutions of the obtained second-order differential equations and the values of the shift parameter providing strictly periodic and antiperiodic solutions. We also notice that this simple problem presents parity-time (PT) symmetry. Possible applicat…
The mixed initial-boundary value problem for infinite one-dimensional chain of harmonic oscillators on the half-line is considered. We study the large time behavior of solutions and derive the dispersive bounds.
We prove a Pleijel-type theorem for the asymptotic behaviour of the number of nodal domains of eigenfunctions of the quantum harmonic oscillator in any dimension.
Harmonic oscillator in Fock space is defined. Isospectral as well as polynomiality-of-eigenfunctions preserving, translation-invariant discretization of the harmonic oscillator is presented. Dilatation-invariant and polynomiality-of-eigenfunctions preserving discretization is also given.
We analyze the two-mode squeezed harmonic oscillator and the $k$th-order harmonic generation within the framework of Bargmann-Hilbert spaces of entire functions. For the displaced, single-mode squeezed and two-mode squeezed harmonic oscillators, we derive the exact, closed-form expressions for their energies and wave functions. For the $k$th-order harmonic generation with $k\geq 3$, our result indicates that it does not have eigenfunctions and is thus ill-defined in the Bargmann-Hilbert space.
Two new families of completely integrable perturbations of the N-dimensional isotropic harmonic oscillator Hamiltonian are presented. Such perturbations depend on arbitrary functions and N free parameters and their integrals of motion are explicitly constructed by making use of an underlying h_6-coalgebra symmetry. Several known integrable Hamiltonians in low dimensions are obtained as particular specializations of the general results here presented. An alternative route for the integrability of all these systems is provided by a suitable canonical transformation which, in turn, opens the poss…
The one-dimensional quantum harmonic oscillator problem is examined via the Laplace transform method. The stationary states are determined by requiring definite parity and good behaviour of the eigenfunction at the origin and at infinity.
We consider an one-dimensional inhomogeneous harmonic chain consisting of two different semi-infinite chains of harmonic oscillators. We study the Cauchy problem with random initial data. Under some restrictions on the interaction between the oscillators of the chain and on the distribution of the initial data, we prove the convergence of space-time statistical solutions to a Gaussian measure.
The problem of the quantum harmonic oscillator is investigated in the framework of bicomplex numbers, which are pairs of complex numbers making up a commutative ring with zero divisors. Starting with the commutator of the bicomplex position and momentum operators, and adapting the algebraic treatment of the standard quantum harmonic oscillator, we find eigenvalues and eigenkets of the bicomplex harmonic oscillator Hamiltonian. We construct an infinite-dimensional bicomplex module from these eigenkets. Turning next to the differential equation approach, we obtain coordinate-basis eigenfunctions…
We show that the Hilbert space of the standard linear harmonic oscillator is a complete orbit of the osp(2,1;2) spectrum-generating superalgebra, and that this is the smallest such algebraic structure. The ubiquitous appearance of the linear harmonic oscillator in virtually all domains of theoretical physics guarantees a corresponding ubiquity of appropriate generalizations of this spectrum-generating superalgebra.
Operadic Lax representations for the harmonic oscillator are used to construct the dynamical deformations of three-dimensional (3D) real Lie algebras in the Bianchi classification. It is shown that the energy conservation of the harmonic oscillator is related to the Jacobi identities of the dynamically deformed algebras. Based on this observation, it is proved that the dynamical deformations of 3D real Lie algebras in the Bianchi classification over the harmonic oscillator are Lie algebras.
In the existing literature various numerical techniques have been developed to quantize the confined harmonic oscillator in higher dimensions. In obtaining the energy eigenvalues, such methods often involve indirect approaches such as searching for the roots of hypergeometric functions or numerically solving a differential equation. In this paper, however, we derive an explicit matrix representation for the Hamiltonian of a confined quantum harmonic oscillator in higher dimensions, thus facilitating direct diagonalization.
We present a derivation of the energy spectrum of the harmonic oscillator by using the alternative approach of topological quantization. The spectrum is derived from the topological invariants of a particular principal fiber bundle which can be assigned to any configuration of classical mechanics, when formulated according to Maupertuis formalism.
For a one-dimensional motion, a constant of motion for non autonomous an linear system (position and velocity) is given from the constant of motion associated to its autonomous system. This approach is used in the study of the harmonic oscillator with an additional time depending force.
In this paper we consider the localization properties of coupled harmonic oscillators in random media. Each of these oscillators is restricted to the lattice $\mathbb{Z}^d$. We show that for most states and an arbitrary choice of the random media, the long time localization for the coupled system holds in a time scale larger than the polynomial one.
We consider a class of perturbations of the 2D harmonic oscillator, and of some other dynamical systems, which we show are isomorphic to a function of a toric system (a Birkhoff canonical form). We show that for such systems there exists a quantum normal form as well, which is determined by spectral data.
We evaluate the matrix elements $<r^{p}>$ for the $n$ -dimensional harmonic oscillator in terms of the dual Hahn polynomials and derive a corresponding three-term recurrence relation and a Pasternack-type reflection relation. A short review of similar results for nonrelativistic hydrogen atom is also given.
We consider nonselfadjoint perturbations of semiclassical harmonic oscillators. Under appropriate dynamical assumptions, we establish some spectral estimates such as upper bounds on the resolvent near the real axis when no geometric control condition is satisfied.
We define the Hermite--Sobolev spaces naturally associated to the harmonic oscillator $H= -Δ+|x|^2.$ Structural properties, relations with the classical Sobolev spaces, boundedness of operators and almost everywhere convergence of solutions of the Schrödinger equation are also considered.
Supersymmetric quantum mechanics is a powerful tool for generating exactly solvable potentials departing from a given initial one. If applied to the harmonic oscillator, a family of Hamiltonians ruled by polynomial Heisenberg algebras is obtained. In this paper it will be shown that the SUSY partner Hamiltonians of the harmonic oscillator can produce evolution loops. The corresponding geometric phases will be as well studied.
We study the entanglement entropy of harmonic oscillators in noncommutative phase space. We propose a new definition of quantum Rényi entropy based on Wigner functions in noncommutative phase space. Using the Rényi entropy, we calculate the entanglement entropy of the ground state of the 2D isotropic harmonic oscillators. We find that for some values of the noncommutative parameters, the harmonic oscillators can be entangled in noncommutative phase space. This is a new entanglement-like effect caused by the noncommutativity of the phase space.
It is computed, using instanton methods, the first allowed energy band for the polymer harmonic oscillator. The result is consistent with the band structure of the standard quantum pendulum but with pure point spectrum. An effective infinite degeneracy emerges in the formal limit $μ/l_0 \to 0$ where $l_0$ is the characteristic length of the vacuum eigenfunction of a quantum harmonic oscillator. As an additional result, it is shown along the article the role played by the lattice reference point $λ$ in the full quantization of the polymer harmonic oscillator.
Operadic Lax representations for the harmonic oscillator are used to construct the quantum counterparts of some real three dimensional Lie algebras. The Jacobi operators of these quantum algebras are studied in semiclassical approximation.
It is shown that response properties of a quantum harmonic oscillator are in essence those of a classical oscillator, and that, paradoxical as it may be, these classical properties underlie all quantum dynamical properties of the system. The results are extended to non-interacting bosonic fields, both neutral and charged.
The existence of bi-Hamiltonian structures for the rational Harmonic Oscillator (non-central harmonic oscillator with rational ratio of frequencies) is analyzed by making use of the geometric theory of symmetries. We prove that these additional structures are a consequence of the existence of dynamical symmetries of non-symplectic (non-canonical) type. The associated recursion operators are also obtained.
We prove that there exists a pair of "non-isospectral" 1D semiclassical Schrödinger operators whose spectra agree modulo h^\infty. In particular, all their semiclassical trace invariants are the same. Our proof is based on an idea of Fulling-Kuchment and Hadamard's variational formula applied to suitable perturbations of the harmonic oscillator. Keywords: Inverse spectral problems, semiclassical Schrödinger operators, trace invariants, Hadamard's variational formula, harmonic oscillator, Penrose mushroom, Sturm-Liouville theory.
A certain notion of canonical equivalence in quantum mechanics is proposed. It is used to relate quantal systems with discrete ones. Discrete systems canonically equivalent to the celebrated harmonic oscillator as well as the quartic and the quasi-exactly-solvable anharmonic oscillators are found. They can be viewed as a translation-covariant discretization of the (an)harmonic oscillator preserving isospectrality. The notion of the $q-$deformation of the canonical equivalence leading to a dilatation-covariant discretization preserving polynomiality of eigenfunctions is also presented.
