Tate cohomology with respect to semidualizing modules

We investigate Tate cohomology of modules over a commutative noetherian ring with respect to semidualizing modules. We identify classes of modules admitting Tate resolutions and analyze the interaction between the corresponding relative and Tate cohomology modules. As an application of our approach, we prove a general balance result for Tate cohomology. Our results are based on an analysis of Tate cohomology in abelian categories.

Comparison of relative cohomology theories with respect to semidualizing modules

We compare and contrast various relative cohomology theories that arise from resolutions involving semidualizing modules. We prove a general balance result for relative cohomology over a Cohen-Macaulay ring with a dualizing module, and we demonstrate the failure of the naive version of balance one might expect for these functors. Local cohomology modules and Gorenstein injectivity with respect to a semidualizing module

Let $(R,\fm)$ be a local ring and let $C$ be a semidualizing $R$--module. In this paper, we are concerned in $C$--injective and $G_{C}$--injective dimensions of certain local cohomology modules of $R$. Firstly, the injective dimension of $C$ and the above quantities of dimensions is compared. Then, as an application of the above comparisons, a characterization of a dualizing module of $R$ is given. Finally, it is shown that if $R$ is Cohen-Macaulay of dimension $d$ such that $\H_{\fm}^{d}(C)$ is $C$--injective, then $R$ is Gorernstein. Homological aspects of semidualizing modules

We investigate the notion of the C-projective dimension of a module, where C is a semidualizing module. When C=R, this recovers the standard projective dimension. We show that three natural definitions of finite C-projective dimension agree, and investigate the relationship between relative cohomology modules and absolute cohomology modules in this setting. Linkage of modules with respect to a semidualizing module

The notion of linkage with respect to a semidualizing module is introduced. It is shown that over a Cohen-Macaulay local ring with canonical module, every Cohen-Macaulay module of finite Gorenstein injective dimension is linked with respect to the canonical module. For a linked module $M$ with respect to a semidualizing module, the connection between the Serre condition $(S_n)$ on $M$ with the vanishing of certain local cohomology modules of its linked module is discussed.

A unified approach to formal local cohomology and local Tate cohomology

Let R be a commutative Noetherian ring. We introduce a theory of formal local cohomology for complexes of R-modules. As an application, we establish some relations between formal local cohomology, local homology, local cohomology and local Tate cohomology through some natural isomorphisms. We investigate vanishing of formal local cohomology modules. Also, we give a characterization of Cohen-Macaulay complexes.

Symmetry in vanishing of Tate cohomology over Gorenstein rings

We investigate symmetry in the vanishing of Tate cohomology for finitely generated modules over local Gorenstein rings. For finitely generated R-modules M and N over Gorenstein local ring R, it is shown that $\widehat{Ext}^i_R(M,N)=0$ for all $i\in\mathbb{Z}$ if and only if $\widehat{Ext}^i_R(N,M)=0$ for all $i\in\mathbb{Z}$.

Tate cohomology over fairly general rings

Tate cohomology was originally defined over finite groups. More recently, Avramov and Martsinkovsky showed how to extend the definition so that it now works well over Gorenstein rings. This paper improves the theory further by giving a new definition that works over more general rings, specifically, those with a dualizing complex. The new definition of Tate cohomology retains the desirable properties established by Avramov and Martsinkovsky. Notably, there is a long exact sequence connecting it to ordinary Ext groups.

The negative side of cohomology for Calabi-Yau categories

We study integer-graded cohomology rings defined over Calabi-Yau categories. We show that the cohomology in negative degree is a trivial extension of the cohomology ring in non-negative degree, provided the latter admits a regular sequence of central elements of length two. In particular, the product of elements of negative degrees are zero. As corollaries we apply this to Tate-Hochschild cohomology rings of symmetric algebras, and to Tate cohomology rings over group algebras. We also prove similar results for Tate cohomology rings over commutative local Gorenstein rings.

On flat and Gorenstein flat dimensions of local cohomology modules

Let $\fa$ be an ideal of a Noetherian local ring $R$ and let $C$ be a semidualizing $R$-module. For an $R$-module $X$, we denote any of the quantities $\fd_R X$, $\Gfd_R X$ and $\GCfd_RX$ by $\T(X)$. Let $M$ be an $R$-module such that $\H_{\fa}^i(M)=0$ for all $i\neq n$. It is proved that if $\T(X)<\infty$, then $\T(\H_{\fa}^n(M))\leq\T(M)+n$ and the equality holds whenever $M$ is finitely generated. With the aid of these results, among other things, we characterize Cohen-Macaulay modules, dualizing modules and Gorenstein rings.

Gorenstein flat dimension of complexes

We define a notion of Gorenstein flat dimension for unbounded complexes over left GF-closed rings. Over Gorenstein rings we introduce a notion of Gorenstein cohomology for complexes; we also define a generalized Tate cohomology for complexes over Gorenstein rings, and we show that there is a close connection between the absolute, the Gorenstein and the generalized Tate cohomology.

Linkage of finite G_C-dimension modules

Let R be a semiperfect commutative Noetherian ring and C a semidualizing R-module. We study the theory of linkage for modules of finite G_C-dimension. Let $R$ be semiperfect commutative Noetherian ring and $C$ be a semidualizing $R$--module. The connection of the Serre condition $(S_n)$ on a horizontally linked $R$-module of finite $\gc$-dimension with the vanishing of certain cohomology modules of its linked module is discussed. As a consequence, it is shown that under some conditions Cohen-Macaulayness is preserved under horizontally linkage.

Tate (co)homology via pinched complexes

For complexes of modules we study two new constructions, which we call the pinched tensor product and the pinched Hom. They provide new methods for computing Tate homology and Tate cohomology, which lead to conceptual proofs of balancedness of Tate (co)homology for modules over associative rings. Another application we consider is in local algebra. Under conditions of vanishing of Tate (co)homology, the pinched tensor product of two minimal complete resolutions yields a minimal complete resolution.

Gorenstein projective dimension for complexes

We define and study a notion of Gorenstein projective dimension for complexes of left modules over associative rings. For complexes of finite Gorenstein projective dimension we define and study a Tate cohomology theory. Tate cohomology groups have a natural transformation to classical Ext groups. In the case of module arguments, we show that these maps fit into a long exact sequence, where every third term is a relative cohomology group defined for left modules of finite Gorenstein projective dimension.

Vanishing of Tate homology and depth formulas over local rings

Auslander's depth formula for pairs of Tor-independent modules over a regular local ring, depth(M \otimes N) = depth(M) + depth(N) - depth(R), has been generalized in several directions over a span of four decades. In this paper we establish a depth formula that holds for every pair of Tate Tor-independent modules over a Gorenstein local ring. It subsumes previous eneralizations of Auslander's formula and yields exact bounds for vanishing of cohomology over certain Gorenstein rings.

Zipping Tate resolutions and exterior coalgebras

We conjecture what the cone of hypercohomology tables of bounded complexes of coherent sheaves on projective spaces are, when we have specified regularity conditions on the cohomology sheaves of this complex and its dual.
