An example of potential density of rational points on the second punctual Hilbert scheme of certain K3 surfaces is treated in detail. This is an amplification of some remarks made by O'Grady and Oguiso.
We determine the automorphism group of the Hilbert scheme of two points on a generic projective K3 surface of any polarization. We obtain in particular new examples of Hilbert schemes of points having non-natural non-symplectic automorphisms. The existence of these automorphisms depends on solutions of Pell's equation.
Let $X$ be a smooth projective hypersurface of dimension at least three. We show that every automorphism of the Hilbert square $X^{[2]}$ of $X$ is induced by some automorphism of $X$.
We present a sufficient condition for the punctural Hilbert scheme of length two of a K3 surface with finite automorphism group to have automorphism group of infinite order in geometric terms (Theorem 2.1). We then give concrete examples (Theorem 1.2). We also discuss about Mori dream space (MDS) structures under an extermal crepant resolution (Theorems 1.2, 5.2, 4.1) from the viewpoint of automorphisms. These affirmatively answer a question of Doctor Malte Wandel.
We discuss various results on Hilbert schemes of lines and conics and automorphism groups of smooth Fano threefolds with Picard rank 1. Besides a general review of facts well known to experts, the paper contains some new results, for instance, we give a description of the Hilbert scheme of conics on any smooth Fano threefold of index 1 and genus 10. We also show that the action of the automorphism group of a Fano threefold $X$ of index 2 (respectively, 1) on an irreducible component of its Hilbert scheme of lines (respectively, conics) is faithful if the anticanonical class of $X$ is very ampl…
We study automorphisms of the Hilbert scheme of $n$ points on a generic projective K3 surface $S$, for any $n \geq 2$. We show that the automorphism group of $S^{[n]}$ is either trivial or generated by a non-symplectic involution and we determine numerical and divisorial conditions which allow us to distinguish between the two cases. As an application of these results we prove that, for any $n \geq 2$, there exist infinite values for the degree of $S$ such that $S^{[n]}$ admits a non-natural involution. This provides a generalization of results by Boissière--Cattaneo--Nieper-Wisskirchen--Sarti…
We classify the group of birational automorphisms of Hilbert schemes of points on algebraic K3 surfaces of Picard rank one. We study whether these automorphisms are symplectic or non-symplectic and if there exists a hyperkähler birational model on which they become biregular. We also present new geometrical constructions of these automorphisms.
The present paper provides several results on automorphisms of hyperkähler (or irreducible holomorphic symplectic) manifolds. In particular it focuses on the symplectic case and contains a classification of prime order symplectic automorphisms on deformations of the Hilbert scheme of two points on a K3 surface and, with additional hypothesis, also on Hilbert schemes of n points on a K3 surface. We also give numerical conditions to establish whether a symplectic automorfism of order 2,3 and 5 on a deformation of the Hilbert scheme of two points on a K3 surface is standard. Moreover we also give…
We calculate the automorphism group of certain Enriques surfaces. The Enriques surfaces that we investigate include very general $n$-nodal Enriques surfaces and very general cuspidal Enriques surfaces. We also describe the action of the automorphism group on the set of smooth rational curves and on the set of elliptic fibrations.
We give a necessary and sufficient condition for an automorphism of the Hilbert scheme of points on a K3 surface (non necessarily algebraic) to be induced by an automorphism of the surface. We prove furthermore that the group of birational transformations of a projective irreducible holomorphic symplectic manifold is finitely generated.
The automorphism group of a projective bundle P(E) over a simplicial toric variety is described when the bundle E is a direct sum of line bundles. Applications to study of moduli of complete intersections on toric varieties, including Calabi Yau m-folds and Del Pezzo surfaces, are indicated.
We present finite sets of generators of the full automorphism groups of three singular K3 surfaces, on which the alternating group of degree 6 acts symplectically. We also present a finite set of generators of the full automorphism group of an associated Enriques surface, on which the Mathieu group M_{10} acts.
Let $X$ be a hyperkähler variety, and assume that $X$ admits a non-symplectic automorphism $σ$ of order $k>{1\over 2}\dim X$. Bloch's conjecture predicts that the quotient $X/<σ>$ should have trivial Chow group of $0$-cycles. We verify this for Fano varieties of lines on certain cubic fourfolds having an order $3$ non-symplectic automorphism.
Let $X$ be a hyperkähler variety, and assume $X$ has a non-symplectic automorphism $σ$ of order $>{1\over 2}\dim X$. Bloch's conjecture predicts that the quotient $X/<σ>$ should have trivial Chow group of $0$-cycles. We verify this for Fano varieties of lines on certain special cubic fourfolds having an order $3$ non--symplectic automorphism.
The Russell cubic is a smooth contractible affine complex threefold which is not isomorphic to affine three-space. In previous articles, we discussed the structure of the automorphism group of this variety. Here we review some consequences of this structure and generalize some results to other hypersurfaces which arise as deformations of Koras-Russell threefolds.
We prove that every biregular automorphism of the affine algebraic variety ${\mathbb P}^M\setminus S$, $M\geqslant 3$, where $S\subset {\mathbb P}^M$ is a hypersurface of degree $m\geqslant M+1$ with a unique singular point of multiplicity $(m-1)$, resolved by one blow up, is a restriction of some automorphism of the projective space ${\mathbb P}^M$, preserving the hypersurface $S$; in particular, for a general hypersurface $S$ the group $\mathop{\rm Aut} ({\mathbb P}^M\setminus S)$ is trivial.
In the paper, we first study the subgroup of $ K$-automorphisms of $K[x_1,\allowbreak \ldots,x_n]$ which commutes with a simple derivation of $K[x_1,\ldots,x_n]$. We show that the subgroup of $ K$-automorphisms of $K[x_1,\ldots,x_n]$ which commutes with a simple derivation of $K[x_1,\ldots,x_n]$ consists of translations under certain hypothesis. We also prove that the subgroup of $K$-automorphisms of $K[x_1,x_2]$ which commutes with a simple derivation is trivial under the same hypothesis, and the subgroup of $ K$-automorphisms of $K[x_1,\ldots,x_n]$ which commutes with simple Shamsuddin deriv…
Let $X$ be a hyperkähler variety, and let $G$ be a group of finite order non-symplectic automorphisms of $X$. Beauville's conjectural splitting property predicts that each Chow group of $X$ should split in a finite number of pieces. The Bloch-Beilinson conjectures predict how $G$ should act on these pieces of the Chow groups: certain pieces should be invariant under $G$, while certain other pieces should not contain any non-trivial $G$-invariant cycle. We can prove this for two pieces of the Chow groups when $X$ is the Hilbert scheme of a $K3$ surface and $G$ consists of natural automorphisms.…
We give a classification of all non-symplectic automorphisms of prime order p acting on irreducible holomorphic symplectic fourfolds deformation equivalent to the Hilbert scheme of two points on a K3 surface, for p=2,3 and 7\leq p \leq 19. Our classification relates the isometry classes of two natural lattices associated to the action of the automorphism on the second cohomology group with integer coefficients with some invariants of the fixed locus and we provide explicit examples. As an application, we find new examples of non-natural non-symplectic automorphisms.
We provide a criterion for when Hilbert squares of complex projective K3 surfaces with Picard number one are strongly ambiguous. This criterion is the same as [DM, Proposition 3.14], but is obtained by a different method. In particular, this enables us to compute the automorphism groups of these Hilbert squares from a different point of view with respect to [BCNS].
The quotient of a finite-dimensional vector space by the action of a finite subgroup of automorphisms is usually a singular variety. Under appropriate assumptions, the McKay correspondence relates the geometry of nice resolutions of singularities and the representations of the group. For the Hilbert scheme of points on the affine plane, we study how different correspondences (McKay, dual McKay and multiplicative McKay) are related to each other.
We find explicit projective models of a compact Shimura curve and of a (non-compact) surface which are the moduli spaces of principally polarised abelian fourfolds with an automorphism of order five. The surface has a 24-nodal canonical model in IP^4 which is the complete intersection of two S_5-invariant cubics. It is dominated by a Hilbert modular surface and we give a modular interpretation for this. We also determine the L-series of these varieties as well as those of several modular covers of the Shimura curve.
The automorphism groups of certain factorial complex affine threefolds admitting locally trivial actions of the additive group are determined. As a consequence new counterexamples to a generalized cancellation problem are obtained.
Automorphisms of a perfect complex naturally have the structure of an $\infty$-group: the 1-morphisms are quasi-isomorphisms, the 2-morphisms are homotopies, etc. This article starts by proving some basic properties of this $\infty$-group. We go on to study the deformation theory of this stack of $\infty$-groups and give a criterion for this stack to be formally smooth. The classifying stack of this $\infty$-group classifies forms of a complex. We discuss a version of Hilbert 90 for perfect complexes.
We study the groups of biholomorphic and bimeromorphic automorphisms of conic bundles over certain compact complex manifolds of algebraic dimension zero.
Let X be a complex algebraic K3 surface or a supersingular K3 surface in odd characteristic. We present an algorithm by which, under certain assumptions on X, we can calculate a finite set of generators of the image of the natural homomorphism from the automorphism group of X to the orthogonal group of the Néron-Severi lattice of X. We then apply this algorithm to certain complex K3 surfaces, among which are singular K3 surfaces whose transcendental lattices are of small discriminants.
In this paper, we construct explicitely polynomial automorphisms of affine n-space for certain n. More precisely, we construct algebraic subgroups of the general polynomial group GA_n(k) where k is an arbitrary base ring of characteristic zero.
In this paper, we determine the Weierstrass semigroup $H(P_{\infty})$ and the full automorphism group of a certain family of curves $\mathcal{X}_{n,r}$, which was recently introduced by Borges and Conceição.
We study upper bounds on the order of automorphisms of non-singular curves $X$ satisfying at least one of the following hypothesis: 1) $X$ is an $m$-sheeted covering of exactly one non-singular curve of genus $γ$, where $m$ is prime; 2) the center of the group of automorphisms of $X$ is non-trivial.
The problem of deciding, given a complex variety X, a point x in X, and a subvariety Z of X, whether there is an automorphism of X mapping x into Z is proved undecidable. Along the way, we prove the undecidability of a version of Hilbert's tenth problem for systems of polynomials over Z defining an affine Q-variety whose projective closure is smooth.
Let $k$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero, $F$ be an algebraically closed extension of $k$ of transcendence degree one, and $G$ be the group of automorphisms over $k$ of the field $F$. The purpose of this note is to calculate the group of continuous automorphisms of $G$.
We show that the automorphism group of a certain subclass of smooth Gizatullin surfaces with a distinguished and rigid extended divisor is generated by automorphisms of A1-fibrations. Moreover, such surfaces provide examples of smooth Gizatullin surfaces with a non-transitive action of the automorphism group. Thus, they represent counterexamples to Gizatullin's conjecture. For such surfaces we give explicit orbits of the natural action of the automorphism group in some special cases. Further, we present their automorphism groups as amalgamated products of two subgroups.
Nishiyama introduced a lattice theoretic classification of the elliptic fibrations on a $K3$ surface. In a previous paper we used his method to exhibit $52$ elliptic fibrations, up to isomorphisms, of the singular $K3$ surface of discriminant $-12$. We prove here that the list is complete with a $53$th fibration, thanks to a remark of Elkies and Schütt. We characterize the fibration both theoretically and with a Weierstrass model.
Let $W$ be a quasiprojective variety over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. Assume that $W$ is birational to a product of a smooth projective variety $A$ and the projective line. We prove that if $A$ contains no rational curves then the automorphism group $G:=Aut(W)$ of $W$ is Jordan. That means that there is a positive integer $J=J(W)$ such that every finite subgroup $\mathcal{B}$ of ${G}$ contains a commutative subgroup $\mathcal{A}$ such that $\mathcal{A}$ is normal in $\mathcal{B}$ and the index $[\mathcal{B}:\mathcal{A}] \le J$ .
For the Calabi-Yau threefolds $X$ constructed by C. Schoen as fiber products of generic rational elliptic surfaces, we show that the action of the automorphism group of $X$ on the Kähler cone of $X$ has a rationally polyhedral fundamental domain. The second author has conjectured that this statement will hold in general, the example presented here being the first non-trivial case in which the statement has been checked. The conjecture was motivated by the desire to use a construction of E. Looijenga to compactify certain moduli spaces which arise in the study of conformal field theory and ``mi…
We construct k-parameter families of rational surface automorphisms for any k. These are automorphisms of surfaces X, which are constructed from iterated blowups over the projective plane. In certain cases: we are able to determine the exact automorphism group of X, as well as when two of the surfaces X are inequivalent.
We construct some positive entropy automorphisms of rational surfaces with no periodic curves. The surfaces in question, which we term tri-Coble surfaces, are blow-ups of the projective plane at 12 points which have contractions down to three different Coble surfaces. The automorphisms arise as compositions of lifts of Bertini involutions from certain degree 1 weak del Pezzo surfaces.
We give a method for verifying, by a symbolic calculation, the stability or semistability with respect to a linearization of fixed, possibly small, degree $m$, of the Hilbert point of a scheme $X \in {\mathbb P}(V)$ having a suitably large automorphism group. We also implement our method and apply it to analyze the stability of bicanonical models of certain curves. Our examples are very special, but they arise naturally in the log minimal model program for $\bar{\mathcal M}_g$. In some examples, this connection provides a check of our computations; in others, the computations confirm predictio…
A factorization formula for certain automorphisms of a Poisson algebra associated to a quiver is proved, which involves framed versions of moduli spaces of quiver representations. This factorization formula is related to wall-crossing formulas for Donaldson-Thomas type invariants of M. Kontsevich and Y. Soibelman.
Given a smooth family F/Y of geometrically irreducible surfaces, we study sequences of arbitrarily near T-points of F/Y; they generalize the traditional sequences of infinitely near points of a single smooth surface. We distinguish a special sort of these new sequences, the strict sequences. To each strict sequence, we associate an ordered unweighted Enriques diagram. We prove that the various sequences with a fixed diagram form a functor, and we represent it by a smooth Y-scheme. We equip this Y-scheme with a free action of the automorphism group of the diagram. We equip the diagram with weig…
