Consider an independent site percolation model on $\Z^d$, with parameter $p \in (0,1)$, where all long range connections in the axes directions are allowed. In this work we show that given any parameter $p$, there exists and integer $K(p)$ such that all binary sequences (words) $ξ\in \{0,1\}^{\N}$ can be seen simultaneously, almost surely, even if all connections whose length is bigger than $K(p)$ are suppressed. We also show some results concerning the question how $K(p)$ should scale with $p$ when $p$ goes to zero. Related results are also obtained for the question of whether or not almost all words are seen.
Two vertices are said to be finitely connected if they belong to the same cluster and this cluster is finite. We derive sharp asymptotics for finite connection probabilities for supercritical Bernoulli bond percolation on Z^2.
We consider a type of long-range percolation problem on the positive integers, motivated by earlier work of others on the appearance of (in)finite words within a site percolation model. The main issue is whether a given infinite binary word appears within an iid Bernoulli sequence at locations that satisfy certain constraints. We settle the issue in some cases, and provide partial results in others.
We consider generic finite range percolation models on $\mathbb{Z}^d$ under a high temperature assumption (exponential decay of connection probabilities and exponential ratio weak mixing). We prove that the rate of decay of point-to-point connections exists in every directions and show that it naturally extends to a norm on $\mathbb{R}^d$. This result is the base input to obtain fine understanding of the high temperature phase and is usually proven using correlation inequalities (such as FKG). The present work makes no use of such model specific properties.
Benjamini and Kesten introduced in 1995 the problem of embedding infinite binary sequences into a Bernoulli percolation configuration, known as "percolation of words". We give a positive answer to their Open Problem 2: almost surely, all words are seen for site percolation on Z^3 with parameter p = 1/2. We also extend this result in various directions, proving the same result for any dimension d at least three and for any value p in the interval (p_c(Z^d), 1 - p_c(Z^d)), and for restrictions to slabs. Finally, we provide an explicit estimate on the probability to find all words starting from a…
We prove a local limit theorem for the probability of a site to be connected by disjoint paths to three points in subcritical Bernoulli percolation on $\mathbb{Z}^{d},\,d\geq2$ in the limit where their distances tend to infinity.

Consider an independent site percolation model on $\Z^d,\ d\geq 2$, with parameter $p \in (0,1)$, where there are only nearest neighbor bonds and long range bonds of length $k$ parallel to some coordinate axis. We show that the percolation probability is a non-decreasing function of $k$. We also generalize this result for models whose long range bonds have several lengths.
In this paper we study the connection between the phenomenon of homological percolation (the formation of "giant" cycles in persistent homology), and the zeros of the expected Euler characteristic curve. We perform an experimental study that covers four different models: site-percolation on the cubical and permutahedral lattices, the Poisson-Boolean model, and Gaussian random fields. All the models are generated on the flat torus $T^d$, for $d=2,3,4$. The simulation results strongly indicate that the zeros of the expected Euler characteristic curve approximate the critical values for homologic…
We consider the Edwards-Anderson Ising Spin Glass model for non negative temperatures T: We define the natural notion of Boltzmann- Gibbs measure for the Edwards-Anderson spin glass at a given temperature, and of unsatisfied edges. We prove that for low enough temperatures, in almost every spin configuration the graph formed by the unsatisfied edges is made of finite connected components. In other words, the unsatisfied edges do not percolate.
We study a general class of percolation models in Euclidean space including long-range percolation, scale-free percolation, the weight-dependent random connection model and several other previously investigated models. Our focus is on the weak decay regime, in which inter-cluster long-range connection probabilities fall off polynomially with small exponent, and for which we establish several structural properties. Chief among them are the continuity of the bond percolation function and the transience of infinite clusters.
We study the effects of mobility on two crucial characteristics in multi-scale dynamic networks: percolation and connection times. Our analysis provides insights into the question, to what extent long-time averages are well-approximated by the expected values of the corresponding quantities, i.e., the percolation and connection probabilities. In particular, we show that in multi-scale models, strong random effects may persist in the limit. Depending on the precise model choice, these may take the form of a spatial birth-death process or a Brownian motion. Despite the variety of structures that…
Consider critical site percolation on $\mathbb{Z}^d$ with $d \geq 2$. We prove a lower bound of order $n^{- d^2}$ for point-to-point connection probabilities, where $n$ is the distance between the points. Most of the work in our proof concerns a `construction' which finally reduces the problem to a topological one. This is then solved by applying a topological fact, which follows from Brouwer's fixed point theorem. Our bound improves the lower bound with exponent $2 d (d-1)$, used by Cerf in 2015 to obtain an upper bound for the so-called two-arm probabilities. Apart from being of interest in …
We consider the supercritical finite-range random connection model where the points $x,y$ of a homogeneous planar Poisson process are connected with probability $f(|y-x|)$ for a given $f$. Performing percolation on the resulting graph, we show that the critical probabilities for site and bond percolation satisfy the strict inequality $p_c^{\rm site} > p_c^{\rm bond}$. We also show that reducing the connection function $f$ strictly increases the critical Poisson intensity. Finally, we deduce that performing a spreading transformation on $f$ (thereby allowing connections over greater distances b…
We prove that for Voronoi percolation on $\mathbb{R}^d$, there exists $p_c\in[0,1]$ such that - for $p<p_c$, there exists $c_p>0$ such that $\mathbb{P}_p[0\text{ connected to distance }n]\leq \exp(-c_p n)$, - there exists $c>0$ such that for $p>p_c$, $\mathbb{P}_p[0\text{ connected to }\infty]\geq c(p-p_c)$. For dimension 2, this result offers a new way of showing that $p_c(2)=1/2$. This paper belongs to a series of papers using the theory of algorithms to prove sharpness of the phase transition.
Consider long-range Bernoulli percolation on $\mathbb{Z}^d$ in which we connect each pair of distinct points $x$ and $y$ by an edge with probability $1-\exp(-β\|x-y\|^{-d-α})$, where $α>0$ is fixed and $β\geq 0$ is a parameter. We prove that if $0<α<d$ then the critical two-point function satisfies \[ \frac{1}{|Λ_r|}\sum_{x\in Λ_r} \mathbf{P}_{β_c}(0\leftrightarrow x) \preceq r^{-d+α} \] for every $r\geq 1$, where $Λ_r=[-r,r]^d \cap \mathbb{Z}^d$. In other words, the critical two-point function on $\mathbb{Z}^d$ is always bounded above on average by the critical two-point function on the hiera…
We study asymptotic percolation as $N\to \infty$ in an infinite random graph ${\cal G}_N$ embedded in the hierarchical group of order $N$, with connection probabilities depending on an ultrametric distance between vertices. ${\cal G}_N$ is structured as a cascade of finite random subgraphs of (approximate) Erdös-Renyi type. We give a criterion for percolation, and show that percolation takes place along giant components of giant components at the previous level in the cascade of subgraphs for all consecutive hierarchical distances. The proof involves a hierarchy of random graphs with vertices …
Let $G_{n,p}^1$ be a superposition of the random graph $G_{n,p}$ and a one-dimensional lattice: the $n$ vertices are set to be on a ring with fixed edges between the consecutive vertices, and with random independent edges given with probability $p$ between any pair of vertices. Bootstrap percolation on a random graph is a process of spread of "activation" on a given realisation of the graph with a given number of initially active nodes. At each step those vertices which have not been active but have at least $r \geq 2$ active neighbours become active as well. We study the size of the final act…
We prove up-to-constants bounds on the two-point function (i.e., point-to-point connection probabilities) for critical long-range percolation on the $d$-dimensional hierarchical lattice. More precisely, we prove that if we connect each pair of points $x$ and $y$ by an edge with probability $1-\exp(-β\|x-y\|^{-d-α})$, where $0<α<d$ is fixed and $β\geq 0$ is a parameter, then the critical two-point function satisfies \[ \mathbb{P}_{β_c}(x\leftrightarrow y) \asymp \|x-y\|^{-d+α} \] for every pair of distinct points $x$ and $y$. We deduce in particular that the model has mean-field critical behavi…
We investigate expansions for connectedness functions in the random connection model of continuum percolation in powers of the intensity. Precisely, we study the pair-connectedness and the direct-connectedness functions, related to each other via the Ornstein-Zernike equation. We exhibit the fact that the coefficients of the expansions consist of sums over connected and $2$-connected graphs. In the physics literature, this is known to be the case more generally for percolation models based on Gibbs point processes and stands in analogy to the formalism developed for correlation functions in li…
We consider Bernoulli percolation on a locally finite quasi-transitive unimodular graph and prove that two infinite clusters cannot have infinitely many pairs of vertices at distance 1 from one another or, in other words, that such graphs exhibit ``cluster repulsion.'' This partially answers a question of Häggström, Peres and Schonmann.
Iterated localization is considered where each node of a network needs to get localized (find its location on 2-D plane), when initially only a subset of nodes have their location information. The iterated localization process proceeds as follows. Starting with a subset of nodes that have their location information, possibly using global positioning system (GPS) devices, any other node gets localized if it has three or more localized nodes in its radio range. The newly localized nodes are included in the subset of nodes that have their location information for the next iteration. This process …
In this paper we establish a connection between epidemic models on random networks with general infection times considered in Barbour and Reinert 2013 and first passage percolation. Using techniques developed in Bhamidi, van der Hofstad, Hooghiemstra 2012, when each vertex has infinite contagious periods, we extend results on the epidemic curve in Barbour Reinert 2013 from bounded degree graphs to general sparse random graphs with degrees having finite third moments as the number of vertices tends to infinity. We also study the epidemic trail between the source and typical vertices in the grap…
We exploit a connection between distances in the infinite percolation cluster, when the parameter is close to one, and the discrete-time TASEP on $\mathbb{Z}$. This shows that when the parameter goes to one, large balls in the cluster are asymptotically shaped near the axes like arcs of parabola.
On the supercritical percolation cluster with parameter p, the distances between two distant points of the axis are asymptotically increased by a factor 1+(1-p)/2+o(1-p) with respect to the usual distance. The proof is based on an apparently new connection with the TASEP (totally asymmetric simple exclusion process).
We use the connection between bond percolation and SIR epidemics to establish lower bounds for the critical percolation probability in $2$ and $3$ dimensions as the range becomes large. The bound agrees with the conjectured asymptotics for the long range critical probability, refines results of M. Penrose, and complements results of van der Hofstad and Sakai in dimensions greater than $6$.
We study phase transition and percolation at criticality for three random graph models on the plane, viz., the homogeneous and inhomogeneous enhanced random connection models (RCM) and the Poisson stick model. These models are built on a homogeneous Poisson point process $\mathcal{P}_λ$ in $\mathbb{R}^2$ of intensity $λ$. In the homogenous RCM, the vertices at $x,y$ are connected with probability $g(|x-y|)$, independent of everything else, where $g:[0,\infty) \to [0,1]$ and $| \cdot |$ is the Euclidean norm. In the inhomogenous version of the model, points of $\mathcal{P}_λ$ are endowed with w…

We consider the densities of clusters, at the percolation point of a two-dimensional system, which are anchored in various ways to an edge. These quantities are calculated by use of conformal field theory and computer simulations. We find that they are given by simple functions of the potentials of 2-D electrostatic dipoles, and that a kind of superposition {\it cum} factorization applies. Our results broaden this connection, already known from previous studies, and we present evidence that it is more generally valid. An exact result similar to the Kirkwood superposition approximation emerges.
One of the most well-known classical results for site percolation on the square lattice is the equation p_c + p_c^* = 1. In words, this equation means that for all values different from p_c of the parameter p the following holds: Either a.s. there is an infinite open cluster or a.s. there is an infinite closed `star' cluster. This result is closely related to the percolation transition being sharp: Below p_c the size of the open cluster of a given vertex is not only (a.s.) finite, but has a distrubtion with an exponential tail. The analog of this result has been proved by Higuchi in 1993 for t…

We study the behavior of the random walk in a continuum independent long-range percolation model, in which two given vertices $x$ and $y$ are connected with probability that asymptotically behaves like $|x-y|^{-α}$ with $α>d$, where $d$ denotes the dimension of the underlying Euclidean space. More precisely, focus is on the random connection model in which the vertex set is given by the realization of a homogeneous Poisson point process. We show that this random graph exhibits the same properties as classical discrete long-range percolation models studied in [3] with regard to recurrence and t…
