One of the most well-known classical results for site percolation on the square lattice is the equation $p_c+p_c^*=1$. In words, this equation means that for all values $\neq p_c$ of the parameter $p$, the following holds: either a.s. there is an infinite open cluster or a.s. there is an infinite closed "star" cluster. This result is closely related to the percolation transition being sharp: below $p_c$, the size of the open cluster of a given vertex is not only (a.s.) finite, but has a distribution with an exponential tail. The analog of this result has been proven by Higuchi in 1993 for two-dimensional Ising percolation (at fixed inverse temperature $β<β_c$) with external field $h$, the parameter of the model. Using sharp-threshold results (approximate zero-one laws) and a modification of an RSW-like result by Bollobás and Riordan, we show that these results hold for a large class of percolation models where the vertex values can be "nicely" represented (in a sense which will be defined precisely) by i.i.d. random variables. We point out that the ordinary percolation model obviously belongs to this class and we also show that the Ising model mentioned above belongs to it.
We consider Poisson Boolean percolation on $\mathbb R^d$ with power-law distribution on the radius with a finite $d$-moment for $d\ge 2$. We prove that subcritical sharpness occurs for all but a countable number of power-law distributions. This extends the results of Duminil-Copin--Raoufi--Tassion where subcritical sharpness is proved under the assumption that the radii distribution has a $5d-3$ finite moment. Our proofs techniques are different from their paper: we do not use randomized algorithm and rely on specific independence properties of Boolean percolation, inherited from the underlyin…
We study percolation properties of the upper invariant measure of the contact process on $\mathbb{Z}^d$. Our main result is a sharp percolation phase transition with exponentially small clusters throughout the subcritical regime and a mean-field lower bound for the infinite cluster density in the supercritical regime. This generalizes and simplifies an earlier result of Van den Berg [Ann. App. Prob., 2011], who proved a sharp percolation phase transition on $\mathbb{Z}^2$. Our proof relies on the OSSS inequality for Boolean functions and is inspired by a series of papers by Duminil-Copin, Raou…
We consider a multiscale Boolean percolation on $\mathbb R^d$ with radius distribution $μ$ on $[1,+\infty)$, $d\ge 2$. The model is defined by superposing the original Boolean percolation model with radius distribution $μ$ with a countable number of scaled independent copies. The $n$-th copy is a Boolean percolation with radius distribution $μ|_{[1,κ]}$ rescaled by $κ^{n}$. We prove that under some regularity assumption on $μ$, the subcritical phase of the multiscale model is sharp for $κ$ large enough. Moreover, we prove that the existence of an unbounded connected component depends only on t…
In this note we study the phase transition for percolation on quasi-transitive graphs with quasi-transitively inhomogeneous edge-retention probabilities. A quasi-transitive graph is an infinite graph with finitely many different "types" of edges and vertices. We prove that the transition is sharp almost everywhere, i.e., that in the subcritical regime the expected cluster size is finite, and that in the subcritical regime the probability of the one-arm event decays exponentially. Our proof extends the proof of sharpness of the phase transition for homogeneous percolation on vertex-transitive g…
In this paper, we consider Voronoi percolation in the hyperbolic space $\mathbb{H}^d$ ($d\ge 2$) and show that the phase transition is sharp. More precisely, we show that for Voronoi percolation with parameter $p$ generated by a homogeneous Poisson point process with intensity $λ$, there exists $p_c:=p_c(λ,d)$ such that the probability of a monochromatic path from the origin reaching a distance of $n$ decays exponentially fast in $n$. We also prove the mean-field lower bound $\mathbb{P}_{λ,p}(0\leftrightarrow \infty)\ge c(p-p_c)$ for $p>p_c$.
We study versions of the contact process with three states, and with infections occurring at a rate depending on the overall infection density. Motivated by a model described in [17] for vegetation patterns in arid landscapes, we focus on percolation under invariant measures of such processes. We prove that the percolation transition is sharp (for one of our models this requires a reasonable assumption). This is shown to contradict a form of 'robust critical behaviour' with power law cluster size distribution for a range of parameter values, as suggested in [17].
One of the most well-known classical results for site percolation on the square lattice is the equation p_c + p_c^* = 1. In words, this equation means that for all values different from p_c of the parameter p the following holds: Either a.s. there is an infinite open cluster or a.s. there is an infinite closed `star' cluster. This result is closely related to the percolation transition being sharp: Below p_c the size of the open cluster of a given vertex is not only (a.s.) finite, but has a distrubtion with an exponential tail. The analog of this result has been proved by Higuchi in 1993 for t…
For ordinary (independent) percolation on a large class of lattices it is well known that below the critical percolation parameter $p_c$ the cluster size distribution has exponential decay and that power-law behavior of this distribution can only occur at $p_c$. This behavior is often called ``sharpness of the percolation transition.'' For theoretical reasons, as well as motivated by applied research, there is an increasing interest in percolation models with (weak) dependencies. For instance, biologists and agricultural researchers have used (stationary distributions of) certain two-dimension…
For the FK representation of the Ising model, we prove that the slab percolation threshold coincides with the critical temperature in any dimension larger or equal to three.
We study the phase transition of random radii Poisson Boolean percolation: Around each point of a planar Poisson point process, we draw a disc of random radius, independently for each point. The behavior of this process is well understood when the radii are uniformly bounded from above. In this article, we investigate this process for unbounded (and possibly heavy tailed) radii distributions. Under mild assumptions on the radius distribution, we show that both the vacant and occupied sets undergo a phase transition at the same critical parameter $λ_c$. Moreover, - For $λ< λ_c$, the vacant set …
We provide a new proof of the sharpness of the phase transition for nearest-neighbour Bernoulli percolation. More precisely, we show that - for $p<p_c$, the probability that the origin is connected by an open path to distance $n$ decays exponentially fast in $n$. - for $p>p_c$, the probability that the origin belongs to an infinite cluster satisfies the mean-field lower bound $θ(p)\ge\tfrac{p-p_c}{p(1-p_c)}$. This note presents the argument of \cite{DumTas15}, which is valid for long-range Bernoulli percolation (and for the Ising model) on arbitrary transitive graphs in the simpler framework o…
We study the 2d-Ising model defined on finite boxes at temperatures that are below but very close from the critical point. When the temperature approaches the critical point and the size of the box grows fast enough, we establish large deviations estimates on FK-percolation events that concern the phenomenon of phase coexistence.
We consider the percolation problem in the high-temperature Ising model on the two-dimensional square lattice at/near critical external fields. We show that all scaling relations, except a single hyperscaling relation, hold under the power law assumptions for the one-arm path and four-arm paths.
We consider the percolation problem in the high-temperature Ising model on the two-dimensional square lattice at or near critical external fields. The incipient infinite cluster (IIC) measure in the sense of Kesten is constructed. As a consequence, we can obtain some geometric properties of IIC. The result holds also for the triangular lattice.
We study infinite ``$+$'' or ``$-$'' clusters for an Ising model on an connected, transitive, non-amenable, planar, one-ended graph $G$ with finite vertex degree. If the critical percolation probability $p_c^{site}$ for the i.i.d.~Bernoulli site percolation on $G$ is less than $\frac{1}{2}$, we find an explicit region for the coupling constant of the Ising model such that there are infinitely many infinite ``$+$''-clusters and infinitely many infinite ``$-$''-clusters, while the random cluster representation of the Ising model has no infinite 1-clusters. If $p_c^{site}>\frac{1}{2}$, we obtain …
We study homogeneous, independent percolation on general quasi-transitive graphs. We prove that in the disorder regime where all clusters are finite almost surely, in fact the expectation of the cluster size is finite. This extends a well-known theorem by Menshikov and Aizenman & Barsky to all quasi-transitive graphs. Moreover we deduce that in this disorder regime the cluster size distribution decays exponentially, extending a result of Aizenman & Newman. Our results apply to both edge and site percolation, as well as long range (edge) percolation. The proof is based on a modification of the …
Information percolation is a new method for analyzing stochastic spin systems through classifying and controlling the clusters of information-flow in the space-time slab. It yielded sharp mixing estimates (cutoff with an $O(1)$-window) for the Ising model on $Z^d$ up to the critical temperature, as well as results on the effect of initial conditions on mixing. In this expository note we demonstrate the method on lattices (more generally, on any locally-finite transitive graph) at very high temperatures.
We prove the sharpness of the percolation phase transition for a class of Cox percolation models, i.e., models of continuum percolation in a random environment. The key requirements are that the environment has a finite range of dependence and satisfies a local boundedness condition, however the FKG inequality need not hold. The proof combines the OSSS inequality with a coarse-graining construction.
Under some general assumptions, we construct the scaling limit of open clusters and their associated counting measures in a class of two dimensional percolation models. Our results apply, in particular, to critical Bernoulli site percolation on the triangular lattice and to the critical FK-Ising model on the square lattice. Fundamental properties of the scaling limit, such as conformal covariance, are explored. As an application to Bernoulli percolation, we obtain the scaling limit of the largest cluster in a bounded domain. We also apply our results to the critical, two-dimensional Ising mode…
We prove, using the random-cluster model, a strict inequality between site percolation and magnetization in the region of phase transition for the d-dimensional Ising model, thus improving a result of [CNPR76]. We extend this result also at the case of two plane lattices Z^2x{0,1} (slabs) and give a characterization of phase transition in this case. The general case of N slabs, with N an arbitrary positive integer, is partially solved and it is used to show that this characterization holds in the case of three slabs with periodic boundary conditions. However in this case we do not obtain usefu…
We provide a new proof of the sharpness of the phase transition for Bernoulli percolation and the Ising model. The proof applies to infinite range models on arbitrary locally finite transitive infinite graphs. For Bernoulli percolation, we prove finiteness of the susceptibility in the subcritical regime $β<β_c$, and the mean-field lower bound $\mathbb{P}_β[0\longleftrightarrow\infty]\ge (β-β_c)/β$ for $β>β_c$. For finite-range models, we also prove that for any $β<β_c$, the probability of an open path from the origin to distance $n$ decays exponentially fast in $n$. For the Ising model, we pro…
We investigate the problem of constructing a dynamics on edge--spin configurations which realizes a coupling between a Glauber dynamics of the Ising model and a dynamical evolution of the percolation configurations. We dream of constructing a Markov process on edge--spin configurations which is reversible with respect to the Ising--FK coupling measure, and such that the marginal on the spins is a Glauber dynamics, while the marginal on the edges is a Markovian evolution. We present two local dynamics, one which fulfills only the first condition and one which fulfills the first two conditions. …
We consider the Boolean model $Z$ on $\mathbb{R}^d$ with random compact grains, i.e. $Z := \bigcup_{i \in \mathbb{N}} (X_i + Z_i)$ where $η_t := \{X_1, X_2, \dots\}$ is a Poisson point process of intensity $t$ and $(Z_1, Z_2, \dots)$ is an i.i.d. sequence of compact grains (not necessarily balls). We will show, that the volume and diameter of the cluster of a typical grain in $Z$ have an exponential tail if the diameter of the typical grain is a.s. bounded by some constant. To achieve this we adapt the arguments of \cite{duminil2015newproof} and apply a new construction of the cluster of the t…
We prove absence of infinite clusters and contours in a class of critical constrained percolation models on the square lattice. The percolation configuration is assumed to satisfy certain hard local constraints, but only weak symmetry and ergodicity conditions are imposed on its law. The proofs use new combinatorial techniques exploiting planar duality. Applications include absence of infinite clusters of diagonal edges for critical dimer models on the square-octagon lattice, as well as absence of infinite contours and infinite clusters for critical XOR Ising models on the square grid. We also…
The orthant model is a directed percolation model on $\mathbb{Z}^d$, in which all clusters are infinite. We prove a sharp threshold result for this model: if $p$ is larger than the critical value above which the cluster of $0$ is contained in a cone, then the shift from $0$ that is required to contain the cluster of $0$ in that cone is exponentially small. As a consequence, above this critical threshold, a shape theorem holds for the cluster of $0$, as well as ballisiticity of the random walk on this cluster.
The contact model for the spread of disease may be viewed as a directed percolation model on $\ZZ \times \RR$ in which the continuum axis is oriented in the direction of increasing time. Techniques from percolation have enabled a fairly complete analysis of the contact model at and near its critical point. The corresponding process when the time-axis is unoriented is an undirected percolation model to which now standard techniques may be applied. One may construct in similar vein a random-cluster model on $\ZZ \times \RR$, with associated continuum Ising and Potts models. These models are of i…

We make a few elementary observations that relate directly the items mentioned in the title. In particular, we note that when one superimposes the random current model related to the Ising model with an independent Bernoulli percolation model with well-chosen weights, one obtains exactly the FK-percolation (or random cluster model) associated with the Ising model. We also point out that this relation can be interpreted via loop-soups, combining the description of the sign of a Gaussian Free Field on a discrete graph knowing its square (and the relation of this question with the FK-Ising model)…
Schramm's Locality Conjecture asserts that the value of the critical percolation parameter $p_c$ of a graph satisfying $p_c<1$ depends only on its local structure. In this note, we prove this conjecture in the particular case of transitive graphs with polynomial growth. Our proof relies on two recent works about such graphs, namely supercritical sharpness of percolation by the same authors and a finitary structure theorem by Tessera and Tointon.
We discuss duality properties of critical Boltzmann planar maps such that the degree of a typical face is in the domain of attraction of a stable distribution with parameter $α\in(1,2]$. We consider the critical Bernoulli bond percolation model on a Boltzmann map in the dilute and generic regimes $α\in (3/2,2]$, and show that the open percolation cluster of the origin is itself a Boltzmann map in the dense regime $α\in (1,3/2)$, with parameter \[α':= \frac{2α+3}{4α-2}.\] This is the counterpart in random planar maps of the duality property $κ\leftrightarrow 16/κ$ of Schramm-Loewner Evolutions …
Eulerian percolation on Z 2 with parameter p is the classical Bernoulli bond percolation with parameter p conditioned on the fact that every site has an even degree. We first explain why Eulerian percolation with parameter p coincides with the contours of the Ising model for a well-chosen parameter $β$(p). Then we study the percolation properties of Eulerian percolation.
We consider self-avoiding walk, percolation and the Ising model with long and finite range. By means of the lace expansion we prove mean-field behavior for these models if $d>2(α\wedge2)$ for self-avoiding walk and the Ising model, and $d>3(α\wedge2)$ for percolation, where $d$ denotes the dimension and $α$ the power-law decay exponent of the coupling function. We provide a simplified analysis of the lace expansion based on the trigonometric approach in Borgs et al. (2007)
We reconsider the percolation approach of Russo, Aizenman and Higuchi for showing that there exist only two phases in the Ising model on the square lattice. We give a fairly short alternative proof which is only based on FKG monotonicity and avoids the use of GKS-type inequalities originally needed for some background results. Our proof extends to the Ising model on other planar lattices such as the triangular and honeycomb lattice. We can also treat the Ising antiferromagnet in an external field and the hard-core lattice gas model on $Z^2$.
We study constrained percolation models on planar lattices including the $[m,4,n,4]$ lattice and the square tilings of the hyperbolic plane, satisfying certain local constraints on faces of degree 4, and investigate the existence of infinite clusters. The constrained percolation models on these lattices are closely related to Ising models and XOR Ising models on regular tilings of the Euclidean plane or the hyperbolic plane. In particular, we obtain a complete picture of the number of infinite "$+$" and "$-$" clusters of the ferromagnetic Ising model with the free boundary condition on a verte…
The Ising model at inverse temperature $β$ and zero external field can be obtained via the Fortuin-Kasteleyn (FK) random-cluster model with $q=2$ and density of open edges $p=1-e^{-β}$ by assigning spin +1 or -1 to each vertex in such a way that (1) all the vertices in the same FK cluster get the same spin and (2) +1 and -1 have equal probability. We generalize the above procedure by assigning spin +1 with probability $r$ and -1 with probability $1-r$, with $r \in [0,1]$, while keeping condition (1). For fixed $β$, this generates a dependent (spin) percolation model with parameter $r$. We show…
We complete the investigation of the Gibbs properties of the fuzzy Potts model on the d-dimensional torus with Kac interaction which was started by Jahnel and one of the authors. As our main result of the present paper, we extend the previous sharpness result of mean-field bounds to cover all possible cases of fuzzy transformations, allowing also for the occurrence of Ising classes. The closing of this previously left open Ising-gap involves an analytical argument showing uniqueness of minimizing profiles for certain non-homogeneous conditional variational problems.
The purpose of this modest note is to provide a short proof of the sharpness of the phase transition for the Random-cluster model with $q=2$ by extending the approach developed by Duminil-Copin and Tassion for $q=1$. This in particular implies the exponential decay of the two point-correlation function in the subcritical Ising model.
We give a simplified and complete proof of the convergence of the chordal exploration process in critical FK-Ising percolation to chordal SLE$_κ( κ-6)$ with $κ=16/3$. Our proof follows the classical excursion-construction of SLE$_κ(κ-6)$ processes in the continuum and we are thus led to introduce suitable cut-off stopping times in order to analyse the behaviour of the driving function of the discrete system when Dobrushin boundary condition collapses to a single point. Our proof is very different from [KS15, KS16] as it only relies on the convergence to the chordal SLE$_κ$ process in Dobrushin…
We discuss the interrelation between phase transitions in interacting lattice or continuum models, and the existence of infinite clusters in suitable random-graph models. In particular, we describe a random-geometric approach to the phase transition in the continuum Ising model of two species of particles with soft or hard interspecies repulsion. We comment also on the related area-interaction process and on perfect simulation.
In this paper we will investigate dynamic stability of percolation for the stochastic Ising model and the contact process. We also introduce the notion of downward and upward $ε$-movability which will be a key tool for our analysis.
We prove that all the translation invariant Gibbs states of the Ising model are a linear combination of the pure phases $μ^+,μ^-$ in the phase transition regime. This implies that the average magnetization is continuous in the phase transition regime ($β> β_c$). Furthermore, combined with previous results on the slab percolation threshold this shows the validity of Pisztora's coarse graining up to the critical temperature.
We introduce a new framework for analyzing Glauber dynamics for the Ising model. The traditional approach for obtaining sharp mixing results has been to appeal to estimates on spatial properties of the stationary measure from within a multi-scale analysis of the dynamics. Here we propose to study these simultaneously by examining "information percolation" clusters in the space-time slab. Using this framework, we obtain new results for the Ising model on $(\mathbb{Z}/n\mathbb{Z})^d$ throughout the high temperature regime: total-variation mixing exhibits cutoff with an $O(1)$-window around the t…
