We introduce elliptic weights of boxed plane partitions and prove that they give rise to a generalization of MacMahon's product formula for the number of plane partitions in a box. We then focus on the most general positive degenerations of these weights that are related to orthogonal polynomials; they form three two-dimensional families. For distributions from these families we prove two types of results.
First, we construct explicit Markov chains that preserve these distributions. In particular, this leads to a relatively simple exact sampling algorithm.
Second, we consider a limit when all dimensions of the box grow and plane partitions become large, and prove that the local correlations converge to those of ergodic translation invariant Gibbs measures. For fixed proportions of the box, the slopes of the limiting Gibbs measures (that can also be viewed as slopes of tangent planes to the hypothetical limit shape) are encoded by a single quadratic polynomial.
We introduce discrete time Markov chains that preserve uniform measures on boxed plane partitions. Elementary Markov steps change the size of the box from (a x b x c) to ((a-1) x (b+1) x c) or ((a+1) x (b-1) x c). Algorithmic realization of each step involves O((a+b)c) operations. One application is an efficient perfect random sampling algorithm for uniformly distributed boxed plane partitions. Trajectories of our Markov chains can be viewed as random point configurations in the three-dimensional lattice. We compute the bulk limits of the correlation functions of the resulting random point pro…
We study the relation between the boxed skew plane partition and the integrable phase model. We introduce a generalization of a scalar product of the phase model and calculate it in two ways; the first one in terms of the skew Schur functions, and another one by use of the commutation relations of operators. In both cases, a generalized scalar product is expressed as a determinant. We show that a special choice of the spectral parameters of a generalized scalar product gives the generating function of the boxed skew plane partition.
Totally symmetric self-complementary plane partitions (TSSCPPs) are boxed plane partitions with the maximum possible symmetry. We use the well-known representation of TSSCPPs as a dimer model on a honeycomb graph enclosed in one-twelfth of a hexagon with free boundary to express them as perfect matchings of a family of non-bipartite planar graphs. Our main result is that the edges of the TSSCPPs form a Pfaffian point process, for which we give explicit formulas for the inverse Kasteleyn matrix. Preliminary analysis of these correlations are then used to give a precise conjecture for the limit …
Our interest is in a class of directed solid-on-solid models, which may be regarded as continuum versions of boxed plane partitions. In the case that the heights are chosen from a uniform distribution, the joint PDF of the heights is the same as that for the positions in a finitized bead process recently introduced by the authors and Nordenstam. We use knowledge of the correlation functions for the latter to show that upon a certain scaling the fluctuations of the heights along the back row of the solid-on-solid model are given by the Airy process from random matrix theory, as is the case for …
The exactly solvable four-vertex model with the fixed boundary conditions in the presence of inhomogeneous linearly growing external field is considered. The partition function of the model is calculated and represented in the determinantal form. The established connection with the boxed plane partitions allows us to calculate the generating function of plane partitions with the fixed sums of their diagonals. The obtained results are another example of the connection of integrable models with the enumerative combinatorics.
We study large random partitions boxed into a rectangle and coming from skew Howe duality, or alternatively from dual Schur measures. As the sides of the rectangle go to infinity, we obtain: 1) limit shape results for the profiles generalizing the Vershik--Kerov--Logan--Shepp curve; and 2) universal edge asymptotic results for the first parts in the form of the Tracy--Widom distribution, as well as less-universal critical regime results introduced by Gravner, Tracy and Widom. We do this for a large class of Schur parameters going beyond the Plancherel or principal specializations previously st…
We study probabilistic and combinatorial aspects of natural volume-and-trace weighted plane partitions and their continuous analogues. We prove asymptotic limit laws for the largest parts of these ensembles in terms of new and known hard- and soft-edge distributions of random matrix theory. As a corollary we obtain an asymptotic transition between Gumbel and Tracy--Widom GUE fluctuations for the largest part of such plane partitions, with the continuous Bessel kernel providing the interpolation. We interpret our results in terms of two natural models of directed last passage percolation (LPP):…
Random skew plane partitions of large size distributed according to an appropriately scaled Schur process develop limit shapes. In the present work we consider the limit of large random skew plane partitions where the inner boundary approaches a piecewise linear curve with non-lattice slopes, describing the limit shape and the local fluctuations in various regions. This analysis is fairly similar to that in [OR2], but we do find some new behavior. For instance, the boundary of the limit shape is now a single smooth (not algebraic) curve, whereas the boundary in [OR2] is singular. We also obser…
We introduce a new family $\mathcal{A}_{n,k}$ of Schur positive symmetric functions, which are defined as sums over totally symmetric plane partitions. In the first part, we show that, for $k=1$, this family is equal to a multivariate generating function involving $n+3$ variables of objects that extend alternating sign matrices (ASMs), which have recently been introduced by the authors. This establishes a new connection between ASMs and a class of plane partitions, thereby complementing the fact that ASMs are equinumerous with totally symmetric self-complementary plane partitions as well as wi…
We prove the equality of doubly refined enumerations of Alternating Sign Matrices and of Totally Symmetric Self-Complementary Plane Partitions using integral formulae originating from certain solutions of the quantum Knizhnik--Zamolodchikov equation.
Generating functions for plane overpartitions are obtained using various methods such as nonintersecting paths, RSK type algorithms and symmetric functions. We extend some of the generating functions to cylindric partitions. Also, we show that plane overpartitions correspond to certain domino tilings and we give some basic properties of this correspondence.

In this paper we define the shifted Schur process as a measure on sequences of strict partitions. This process is a generalization of the shifted Schur measure introduced in [TW] and [Mat] and is a shifted version of the Schur process introduced in [OR]. We prove that the shifted Schur process defines a Pfaffian point process. We further apply this fact to compute the bulk scaling limit of the correlation functions for a measure on strict plane partitions which is an analog of the uniform measure on ordinary plane partitions. As a byproduct, we obtain a shifted analog of the famous MacMahon's …
We study random skew 3D partitions weighted by $q^{\textup{vol}}$ and, specifically, the $q\to 1$ asymptotics of local correlations near various points of the limit shape. We obtain sine-kernel asymptotics for correlations in the bulk of the disordered region, Airy kernel asymptotics near a general point of the frozen boundary, and a Pearcey kernel asymptotics near a cusp of the frozen boundary.
We present multiresidue formulae for partial sums in the basis of link patterns of the polynomial solution to the level 1 U_q(\hat sl_2) quantum Knizhnik--Zamolodchikov equation at generic values of the quantum parameter q. These allow for rewriting and generalizing a recent conjecture [Di Francesco '06] connecting the above to generating polynomials for weighted Totally Symmetric Self-Complementary Plane Partitions. We reduce the corresponding conjectures to a single integral identity, yet to be proved.
It has recently been observed empirically that the number of FPL configurations with 3 sets of a, b and c nested arches equals the number of plane partitions in a box of size a x b x c. In this note, this result is proved by constructing explicitly the bijection between these FPL and plane partitions.
We propose new conjectures relating sum rules for the polynomial solution of the qKZ equation with open (reflecting) boundaries as a function of the quantum parameter $q$ and the $τ$-enumeration of Plane Partitions with specific symmetries, with $τ=-(q+q^{-1})$. We also find a conjectural relation à la Razumov-Stroganov between the $τ\to 0$ limit of the qKZ solution and refined numbers of Totally Symmetric Self Complementary Plane Partitions.
We consider a random process with discrete time formed by singular values of products of truncations of Haar distributed unitary matrices. We show that this process can be understood as a scaling limit of the Schur process, which gives determinantal formulas for (dynamical) correlation functions and a contour integral representation for the correlation kernel. The relation with the Schur processes implies that the continuous limit of marginals for q-distributed plane partitions coincides with the joint law of singular values for products of truncations of Haar-distributed random unitary matric…
We present a new conjecture relating the minimal polynomial solution of the level-one $U_q(\frak{sl}(2))$ quantum Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equation for generic values of $q$ in the link pattern basis and some $q$-enumeration of Totally Symmetric Self-Complementary Plane Partitions.
Using BKP neutral fermions, we derive a product expression for the generating function of volume-weighted plane partitions that satisfy two conditions. If we call a set of adjacent equal height-h columns, h > 0, an h-path, then 1. Every h-path can assume one of two possible colours. 2. There is a unique way to move along an h-path from any column to another.
MacMahon's classic generating function of random plane partitions, which is related to Schur polynomials, was recently extended by Vuletic to a generating function of weighted plane partitions that is related to Hall-Littlewood polynomials, S(t), and further to one related to Macdonald polynomials, S(t,q). Using Jing's 1-parameter deformation of charged free fermions, we obtain a Fock space derivation of the Hall-Littlewood extension. Confining the plane partitions to a finite s-by-s square base, we show that the resulting generating function, S_{s-by-s}(t), is an evaluation of a tau-function …
We prove and conjecture some new symmetric function identities, which equate the generating series of 1. Plane partitions, subject to certain restrictions and weightings, and 2. Alternating sign matrices, subject to certain symmetry properties. The left hand side of each of our identities is a simple refinement of a relevant Cauchy or Littlewood identity, allowing them to be interpreted as generating series for plane partitions. The right hand side of each identity is a partition function of the six-vertex model, on a relevant domain. These can be interpreted as generating series for alternati…
In the paper, the quantum-statistical approach is used to estimate the number of restricted plane partitions of an integer $n$ with the number of parts not exceeding some finite $N$. The analogy between this number-theoretical problem and the enumeration of microstates of the ideal two-dimensional Bose-gas is used. The conjectured expression for the number of restricted plane partitions shows a good agreement between calculated and exact values for $n=10\div20$.
We use free fermion methods to re-derive a result of Okounkov and Reshetikhin relating charged fermions to random plane partitions, and to extend it to relate neutral fermions to strict plane partitions.
We give a conjectural formula for sheaves supported on (irreducible) conormal varieties inside the cotangent bundle of the Grassmannian, such that their equivariant $K$-class is given by the partition function of an integrable loop model, and furthermore their $K$-theoretic pushforward to a point is a solution of the level $1$ quantum Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equation. We prove these results in the case that the Lagrangian is smooth (hence is the conormal bundle to a subGrassmannian). To compute the pushforward to a point, or equivalently to the affinization, we simultaneously degenerate the Lag…
Five-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theories are investigated from the viewpoint of random plane partitions. It is shown that random plane partitions are factorizable as q-deformed random partitions so that they admit the interpretations as five-dimensional Yang-Mills and as topological string amplitudes. In particular, they lead to the exact partition functions of five-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills with the Chern-Simons terms. We further show that some specific partitions, which we call the ground partitions, describe the perturbative regime of t…
In this work several techniques to treat the partition function of the real scalar quartic quantum field theory on the Moyal plane is discussed. A factorisation approach requires the polytope volume for the diagonal subpolytope of symmetric stochastic matrices. This is determined asymptotically. The applicability of this method is tested for regime of weak coupling. Here the asymptotic character of the polytope volume alters the matrix structure of the original model leading to fictitious divergences.
We consider partial sum rules for the homogeneous limit of the solution of the q-deformed Knizhnik--Zamolodchikov equation with reflecting boundaries in the Dyck path representation. We show that these partial sums arise in a solution of the discrete Hirota equation, and prove that they are the generating functions of $τ^2$-weighted punctured cyclically symmetric transpose complement plane partitions where $τ=-(q+q^{-1})$. In the cases of no or minimal punctures, we prove that these generating functions coincide with $τ^2$-enumerations of vertically symmetric alternating sign matrices and modi…
We construct a matrix model equivalent (exactly, not asymptotically), to the random plane partition model, with almost arbitrary boundary conditions. Equivalently, it is also a random matrix model for a TASEP-like process with arbitrary boundary conditions. Using the known solution of matrix models, this method allows to find the large size asymptotic expansion of plane partitions, to ALL orders. It also allows to describe several universal regimes.
The remarkable properties of the real scalar quartic quantum field theory on the Moyal plane in combination with its similarity to the Kontsevich model make the model's partition function an interesting object to study. However, direct evalua- tions is obstructed by the intertwining of the field's various modes. A factorization procedure to circumvent this problem is proposed and discussed here in the context of the real scalar quartic qft on the Moyal plane. This factorization consists of integrating against the asymptotic volume of the diagonal subpolytope of symmet- ric stochastic matrices.…
In third paper of the series we construct a large family of representations of the quantum toroidal $\gl_1$ algebra whose bases are parameterized by plane partitions with various boundary conditions and restrictions. We study the corresponding formal characters. As an application we obtain a Gelfand-Zetlin type basis for a class of irreducible lowest weight $\gl_\infty$-modules.
We argue that MacMahon representation of Ding-Iohara-Miki (DIM) algebra spanned by plane partitions is closely related to the Hilbert space of a 3d field theory. Using affine matrix model we propose a generalization of Bethe equations associated to DIM algebra with solutions also labelled by plane partitions. In a certain limit we identify the eigenstates of the Bethe system as new triple Macdonald polynomials depending on an infinite number of families of time variables. We interpret these results as first hints of the existence of an integrable 3d field theory, in which DIM algebra plays the…
In this work, we study quantum crystal melting in three space dimensions. Using an equivalent description in terms of dimers in a hexagonal lattice, we recast the crystal melting Hamiltonian as an occupancy problem in a Kagome lattice. The Hilbert space is spanned by states labeled by plane partitions and writing them as a product of interlaced integer partitions, we define a fermion-boson duality for plane partitions. Finally, based upon the latter result we conjecture that the growth operators for the quantum Hamiltonian can be represented in terms of the affine Yangian ${\cal Y}[\widehat{\m…
Relations between the mean values of distributions of flipped spins on periodic Heisenberg XX chain and some aspects of enumerative combinatorics are discussed. The Bethe vectors, which are the state-vectors of the model, are considered both as on- and off-shell. It is this approach that makes it possible to represent and to study the correlation functions in the form of non-intersecting nests of lattice walks and related plane partitions. We distinguish between two types of walkers, namely lock step models and random turns. Of particular interest is the connection of random turns walks and a …
In this paper, we study 5d $\mathcal{N}=1$ $Sp(N)$ gauge theory with $N_f ( \leq 2N + 3 )$ flavors based on 5-brane web diagram with $O5$-plane. On the one hand, we discuss Seiberg-Witten curve based on the dual graph of the 5-brane web with $O5$-plane. On the other hand, we compute the Nekrasov partition function based on the topological vertex formalism with $O5$-plane. Rewriting it in terms of profile functions, we obtain the saddle point equation for the profile function after taking thermodynamic limit. By introducing the resolvent, we derive the Seiberg-Witten curve and its boundary cond…
An attempt is described to extend the notion of Schur functions from Young diagrams to plane partitions. The suggestion is to use the recursion in the partition size, which is easily generalized and deformed. This opens a possibility to obtain Macdonald polynomials by a change of recursion coefficients and taking appropriate limit from three to two dimensions -- though details still remain to be worked out. Another perspective is opened by the observation of a rich non-abelian structure, extending that of commuting cut-and-join operators, for which the discovered 3-Schurs are the common eigenf…
A model of random plane partitions which describes five-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric SU(N) Yang-Mills is studied. We compute the wave functions of fermions in this statistical model and investigate their thermodynamic limits or the semi-classical behaviors. These become of the WKB type at the thermodynamic limit. When the fermions are located at the main diagonal of the plane partition, their semi-classical wave functions are obtained in a universal form. We further show that by taking the four-dimensional limit the semi-classical wave functions turn to live on the Seiberg-Witten…
