The charge redistribution at grain boundaries determines the applicability of high-Tc superconductors in electronic devices, because the transport across the grains can be hindered considerably. We investigate the local charge transfer and the modification of the electronic states in the vicinity of the grain-grain interface by first principles calculations for a (normal-state) 45^o tilted [001] grain boundary in YBa2Cu3O7. Our results explain the suppressed interface transport and the influence of grain boundary doping in a quantitative manner, in accordance with the experimental situation. The charge redistribution is found to be strongly inhomogeneous, which has a substantial effect on transport properties since it gives rise to a self-doping of 0.10 (+/- 0.02) holes per Cu atom.
We present here results of our first principles studies of the sulfur doping effects on the electronic and geometric structures of graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4). Using the Ab initio thermodynamics approach combined with some kinetic analysis, we reveal the favorable S-doping configurations By analyzing the valence charge densities of the doped and un-doped systems, we find that sulfur partially donates its px- and py- electrons to the system with some back donation to the S pz-states. To obtain accurate description of the excited electronic states, we calculate the electronic structure of …
Modulating electronic structure of monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) is important for many applications and doping is an effective way towards this goal, yet is challenging to control. Here we report the in-situ substitutional doping of niobium (Nb) into TMDCs with tunable concentrations during chemical vapour deposition. Taking monolayer WS2 as an example, doping Nb into its lattice leads to bandgap changes in the range 1.98 eV to 1.65 eV. Noteworthy, electrical transport measurements and density functional theory calculations show that the 4d electron orbitals of the Nb dopa…
In this report, it is shown that Cr doped into the bulk and Cr deposited on the surface of Bi2Se3 films produced by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) have strikingly different effects on both the electronic structure and chemical environment.
Black phosphorus (BP) has recently attracted significant interest due to its unique electronic and optical properties. Doping is an effective strategy to tune a material's electronic structures, however, the direct and controllable growth of BP with a high yield and its doping remain a great challenge. Here we report an efficient short-distance transport (SDT) growth approach and achieve the controlled growth of high quality BP with the highest yield so far, where 98% of the red phosphorus is converted to BP. The doping of BP by As, Sb, Bi, Se and Te are also achieved by this SDT growth approa…
The modifications in the electronic structure of Ni_{2+x}Mn_{1-x}Ga by Ni doping have been studied using full potential linearized augmented plane wave method and ultra-violet photoemission spectroscopy. Ni 3d related electron states appear due to formation of Ni clusters. We show the possibility of changing the minority-spin DOS with Ni doping, while the majority-spin DOS remains almost unchanged. The total magnetic moment decreases with excess Ni. The total energy calculations corroborate the experimentally reported changes in the Curie temperature and the martensitic transition temperature …
Graphene and carbon nanotubes have extraordinary mechanical and electronic properties. Intrinsic line defects such as local non-hexagonal reconstructions or grain boundaries, however, significantly reduce the tensile strength, but feature exciting electronic properties. Here, we address the properties of line defects in graphene from first-principles on the level of full-potential density-functional theory, and assess doping as one strategy to strengthen such materials. We carefully disentangle the global and local effect of doping by comparing results from the virtual crystal approximation wi…
Zincblende copper iodide has been attracting growing interest as p-type semiconductor for applications in transparent electronics and transparent thermoelectrics. A key step towards technological applications is the possibility to enhance copper iodide (CuI) conductivity by doping without deteriorating transparency. A recent high-throughput computational study revealed that chalcogen substitutions on iodine sites can act as shallow acceptors. Following computational predictions, doping by oxygen, sulfur and selenium substitutions on iodine sites has recently been realized in the laboratory, sh…
The electronic structure and the physical properties of quantum materials can be significantly altered by charge carrier doping and magnetic state transition. Here we report a discovery of a giant and reversible electronic structure evolution with doping in a magnetic topological material. By performing high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission measurements on EuCd2As2,we found that a huge amount of hole doping can be introduced into the sample surface due to surface absorption. The electronic structure exhibits a dramatic change with the hole doping which can not be described by a rigid ba…
Graphene is known as the strongest 2D material in nature, yet we show that moderate charge doping of either electrons or holes can further enhance its ideal strength by up to ~17%, based on first principles calculations. This unusual electronic enhancement, versus conventional structural enhancement, of material's strength is achieved by an intriguing physical mechanism of charge doping counteracting on strain induced enhancement of Kohn anomaly, which leads to an overall stiffening of zone boundary K1 phonon mode whose softening under strain is responsible for graphene failure. Electrons and …
We study the evolution of helical magnetism in MnGe chiral magnet upon partial substitution of Mn for non magnetic 3d-Co and 4d-Rh ions. At high doping levels, we observe spin helices with very long periods -more than ten times larger than in the pure compound- and sizable ordered moments. This behavior calls for a change in the energy balance of interactions leading to the stabilization of the observed magnetic structures. Strikingly, neutron scattering unambiguously shows a double periodicity in the observed spectra at $x \gtrsim 0.45$ and $\gtrsim 0.25$ for Co- and Rh-doping, respectively. …
We present a detailed study of the magnetic-field and temperature-dependent polarization of the near-band-gap photoluminescence in Gd-doped GaN layers. Our study reveals an extraordinarily strong influence of Gd doping on the electronic states in the GaN matrix. We observe that the spin splitting of the valence band reverses its sign for Gd concentrations as low as 1.6 x 10^{16} cm^{-3}. This remarkable result can be understood only in terms of a long range induction of magnetic moments in the surrounding GaN matrix by the Gd ions.
Practical high temperature superconductors must be textured to minimize the reduction of the critical current density $J_{gb}$ at misoriented grain boundaries. Partial substitution of Ca for Y in $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-δ}$ has shown significant improvement in $J_{gb}$ but the mechanisms are still not well understood. Here we report atomic-scale, structural and analytical electron microscopy combined with transport measurements on $7^{\circ}$ $[001]$-tilt $Y_{0.7}Ca_{0.3}Ba_2Cu_3O_{7-δ}$ and $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-δ}$ grain boundaries, where the dislocation cores are well separated. We show that the enhanced c…
We report a study on a series of lanthanum doped barium stannate-titanate (LBTS) ceramics towards correlating their microstructure with ferroelectric properties. The samples were prepared by solid state reaction technique and the XRD analysis indicated predominantly single phase microstructure. Scanning Electron Microscopy revealed that while a low La doping of 1 atomic % yielded inhibited grain growth in 1LBTS, higher amounts of La doping yield larger leafy grains. This peculiar grain growth and microstructure evolution could be attributed to the combination of the following two competing fac…
The crystal structure of MoS$_2$ with strong covalent bonds in plane and weak Van der Waals interactions out of plane gives rise to interesting properties for applications such as solid lubrication, optoelectronics, and catalysis, which can be enhanced by transition-metal doping. However, the mechanisms for improvement and even the structure of the doped material can be unclear, which we address with theoretical calculations. Building on our previous work on Ni-doping of the bulk 2H phase, now we compare to polytypes (1H monolayer and 3R bulk), to determine favorable sites for Ni and the dopin…
In this paper, we have analysed the electronic and mechanical properties of Nitrogen(N) doped (6,1) SWCNTs based on first-principles and Molecular dynamic (MD) simulation. A schematic N-doping on SWCNT was performed along zigzag(zz) and armchair(ac) direction. Armchair doping is considered parallel to the tube axis while the zigzag is along the cross-section perpendicular to the tube axis. In doping pattern (both zz and ac) we have observed the variation in electronic properties for even number of N-doping and odd number of N-doping. To study the mechanical properties we have adopted ab-initio…
Neodymium nickelate, NdNiO3 attracts attraction due to the simultaneous occurrence of several phase transitions around the same temperature. The electronic properties of NdNiO3 are extremely complex as structural distortion, electron correlation, charge ordering, and orbital overlapping play significant roles in the transitions. We report the effects of electron and hole injection via doping a single 3d metal, V, in the NdNiO3 nanostructures to understand the variations in the electronic properties without any structural distortion. A reversible resistivity modulation more than five orders of …
With the best overall electronic and thermal properties, single crystal diamond (SCD) is the extreme wide bandgap material that is expected to revolutionize power electronics and radio-frequency electronics in the future. However, turning SCD into useful semiconductors requires overcoming doping challenges, as conventional substitutional doping techniques, such as thermal diffusion and ion implantation, are not easily applicable to SCD. Here we report a simple and easily accessible doping strategy demonstrating that electrically activated, substitutional doping in SCD without inducing graphiti…
By using first principles calculations we report a chemical doping induced gap in graphene. The structural and electronic properties of CrO$_3$ interacting with graphene layer are calculated using ab initio methods based on the density functional theory. The CrO$_3$ acts as an electron acceptor modifying the original electronic and magnetic properties of the graphene surface through a chemical adsorption. The changes induced in the electronic properties are strongly dependent of the CrO$_3$ adsorption site and for some sites it is possible to open a gap in the electronic band structure. Spin p…
Abnormal grain growth (AGG) was observed in rutile TiO2 formed by the thermal treatment of anatase TiO2 in the presence of zirconium silicate. This morphological behaviour was seen to occur in sintered powder compacts and thin films with solid state zircon dopants and in TiO2 coatings on grains of zircon sand. In order to clarify the mechanism of AGG in this system, various doping methods were employed and the morphological consequences of these doping methods were investigated. It was found that doping by Zr and Si does not give rise to abnormal grain growth. The observed phenomena were discu…
Nanocrystalline Al-Mg alloys are used to isolate the effect of grain boundary doping on the strength of nanostructured metals. Mg is added during mechanical milling, followed by low homologous temperature annealing treatments to induce segregation without grain growth. Nanocrystalline Al -7 at.% Mg that is annealed for 1 h at 200 °C is the strongest alloy fabricated, with a hardness of 4.56 GPa or approximately three times that of pure nanocrystalline Al. Micropillar compression experiments indicate a yield strength of 865 MPa and a specific strength of 329 kN m/kg, making this one of the stro…
We study magnetotransport in a rare earth doped topological insulator, Sm0.1Sb1.9Te3 single crystals, under magnetic fields up to 14 T. It is found that that the crystals exhibit Shubnikov de Haas oscillations in their magneto-transport behaviour at low temperatures and high magnetic fields. The SdH oscillations result from the mixed contributions of bulk and surface states. We also investigate the SdH oscillations in different orientations of the magnetic field, which reveals a three dimensional Fermi surface topology. By fitting the oscillatory resistance with the Lifshitz Kosevich theory, w…
We report a detailed first-principles study of doping in Li$_2$MnO$_3$, in both the dilute doping limit and heavy doping, using hybrid density-functional calculations. We find that Al, Fe, Mo, and Ru impurities are energetically most favorable when incorporated into Li$_2$MnO$_3$ at the Mn site, whereas Mg is most favorable when doped at the Li sites. Ni, on the other hand, can be incorporated at the Li site and/or the Mn site, and the distribution of Ni over the lattice sites can be tuned by tuning the materials preparation conditions. There is a strong interplay between the lattice site pref…
Epitaxial thin films of Fe doped SrTiO3 have been studied by the use of resonant photoemission. This technique allowed to identify contributions of the Fe and Ti originating electronic states to the valence band. Two valence states of iron Fe2+ and Fe3+, detected on the base of XAS spectra, appeared to form quite different contributions to the valence band of SrTiO3. The electronic states within the in-gap region can be attributed to Fe2+, Fe3+ and Ti3+ ions. Fe2+ originating states which can be connected to the presence of oxygen vacancies form a broad band reaching binding energies of about …

We address one of the main challenges to TiO2-photocatalysis, namely band gap narrowing, by combining nanostructural changes with doping. With this aim we compare TiO2's electronic properties for small 0D clusters, 1D nanorods and nanotubes, 2D layers, and 3D surface and bulk phases using different approximations within density functional theory and GW calculations. In particular, we propose very small (R < 0.5 nm) but surprisingly stable nanotubes with promising properties. The nanotubes are initially formed from TiO2 layers with the PtO2 structure, with the smallest (2,2) nanotube relaxing t…
Analysis of the band structure of TiS$_3$ single-layers suggests the possibility of changing their physical behaviour by injecting electron carriers. The anisotropy of the valence and conduction bands is explained in terms of their complex orbital composition. The nature of the Fermi surface and Lindhard response function for different doping concentrations is studied by means of first-principles DFT calculations. It is suggested that for electron doping levels $x$ (number of electrons per unit cell) $\sim$ 0.18-0.30$e^-$ the system could exhibit incommensurate charge or spin modulations which…
Hole-doping of NdFeAsO via partial replacement of Nd3+ by Sr2+ is a successful route to obtain superconducting phases (Tc = 13.5 K for a Sr2+ content of 20%); however, the structural and electronic response with doping is different from and non-symmetric to that in the electron-doped side of the phase diagram.
Stanene is a quantum spin hall insulator and a promising material for electronic and optoelectronic devices. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations are performed to study the band gap opening in stanene by elemental mono- (B, N) and co-doping (B-N). Different patterned B-N co-doping is studied to change the electronic properties in stanene. A patterned B-N co-doping opens the band gap in stanene and the semiconducting nature persists with strain. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations are performed to confirm the thermal stability of such doped system. The stress-strain study indicates that…
Graphene has attracted great attentions since its first discovery in 2004. Various approaches have been proposed to control its physical and electronic properties. Here, we report that graphene based intercalation compounds is an efficient method to modify the electronic properties of few layer graphene (FLG). FeCl3 intercalated FLG were successfully prepared by two-zone vapor transport method. This is the first report on full intercalation for graphene samples. The features of the Raman G peak of such few-layer graphene intercalation compounds (FLGIC) are in good agreement with their full int…
We show that the HF acid etch commonly used to prepare SrTiO3(001) for heteroepitaxial growth of complex oxides results in a non-negligible level of F doping within the terminal surface layer of TiO2. Using a combination of x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and scanned angle x-ray photoelectron diffraction, we determine that on average ~13 % of the O anions in the surface layer are replaced by F, but that F does not occupy O sites in deeper layers. Despite this perturbation to the surface, the Fermi level remains unpinned, and the surface-state density, which determines the amount of band bendi…
All-solid-state lithium batteries promise significant improvements in energy density and safety over traditional liquid electrolyte batteries. The Al-doped AlxLi7-3xLa3Zr2O12 (LLZO) solid-state electrolyte shows excellent potential given its high ionic conductivity and good thermal, chemical, and electrochemical stability. Nevertheless, further improvements on LLZOs electrochemical and mechanical properties call for an incisive understanding of its local microstructure. Here, we employ Bragg Coherent Diffractive Imaging to investigate the atomic displacements inside single grains of LLZO with …
The magnetic and electronic properties of strontium titanate with different carbon dopant configurations are explored using first-principles calculations with a generalized gradient approximation (GGA) and the GGA+U approach. Our results show that the structural stability, electronic properties and magnetic properties of C-doped SrTiO3 strongly depend on the distance between carbon dopants. In both GGA and GGA+U calculations, the doping structure is mostly stable with a nonmagnetic feature when the carbon dopants are nearest neighbors, which can be ascribed to the formation of a C-C dimer pair…
By using the density functional theory method, we systematically study the influences of the doping of an Al atom on the electronic structures of the Mg(0001) surface and dissociation behaviors of H2 molecules. We find that for the Al-doped surfaces, the surface relaxation around the doping layer changes from expansion of a clean Mg(0001) surface to contraction, due to the redistribution of electrons. After doping, the work function is enlarged, and the electronic states around the Fermi energy have a major distribution around the doping layer. For the dissociation of H2 molecules, we find tha…
The implementation of graphene in semiconducting technology requires the precise knowledge about the graphene-semiconductor interface. In our work the structure and electronic properties of the graphene/$n$-Ge(110) interface are investigated on the local (nm) and macro (from $μ\mathrm{m}$ to mm) scales via a combination of different microscopic and spectroscopic surface science techniques accompanied by density functional theory calculations. The electronic structure of freestanding graphene remains almost completely intact in this system, with only a moderate $n$-doping indicating weak intera…
The interaction between graphene and substrates provides a viable routes to enhance functionality of both materials. Depending on the nature of electronic interaction at the interface, the electron band structure of graphene is strongly influenced, allowing us to make use the intrinsic properties of graphene or to design additional functionality in graphene. Here, we present an angle-resolved photoemission study on the interaction between graphene and a platinum substrate. The formation of an interface between graphene and platinum leads to a strong deviation in the electronic structure of gra…
In this paper, structural and electronic properties and stability of (10, 0) born nitride nanotube (BNNT) are considered within density functional theory by doping group IV elements of the periodic table. The HOMO-LUMO gap has been strongly modified and treated a dual manner by choosing B or N sites for dopant atoms. Formation energy calculation shows that B site doping is more stable than N site doping. Results also show that all dopants turn the pristine BNNT into a p-type semiconductor except for carbon-doped BNNT at B site.
The electronic band structure of twisted bilayer graphene develops van Hove singularities whose energy depends on the twist angle between the two layers. Using Raman spectroscopy, we monitor the evolution of the electronic band structure upon doping using the G peak area which is enhanced when the laser photon energy is resonant with the energy separation of the van Hove singularities. Upon charge doping, the Raman G peak area initially increases for twist angles larger than a critical angle and decreases for smaller angles. To explain this behavior with twist angle, the energy of separation o…
Heusler alloys containing Co and Mn are amongst the most heavily studied half-metallic ferromagnets for future applications in spintronics. Using state-of-the-art electronic structure calculations, we investigate the effect of doping and disorder on their electronic and magnetic properties. Small degrees of doping by substituting Fe or Cr for Mn scarcely affect the half-metallicity. A similar effect is also achieved by mixing the sublattices occupied by the Mn and sp atoms. Thus the half-metallicity is a robust property of these alloys.
Graphene is an excellent candidate for the next generation of electronic materials due to the strict two-dimensionality of its electronic structure as well as the extremely high carrier mobility. A prerequisite for the development of graphene based electronics is the reliable control of the type and density of the charge carriers by external (gate) and internal (doping) means. While gating has been successfully demonstrated for graphene flakes and epitaxial graphene on silicon carbide, the development of reliable chemical doping methods turns out to be a real challenge. In particular hole dopi…
Ternary intermetallic half-Heusler (HH) compounds (XYZ) with 18 valence electron count viz. ZrCoSb, ZrNiSn, and ZrPdSn, have revealed promising thermoelectric properties. Exemplarily, it has been experimentally observed that a slight change in the content of Y-site atoms (by ~3-12.5% i.e., m =0.03, 0.125 in ZrY(1+m)Z) leads to drastic lowering in the lattice thermal conductivity (kL) by more than 65-80% in many of these compounds. The present work aims at exploring the possibility of maximizing the electronic transport scenario after achieving the low kL limit in these compounds. By taking int…
The samples of Ga doped Cr2O3 oxide have been prepared using chemical co-precipitation route. X-ray diffraction pattern and Raman spectra have confirmed rhombohedral crystal structure with space group R3-C. Magnetic measurement has indicated the dilution of antiferromagnetic (AFM) spin order in Ga doped alpha-Cr2O3 system oxide, where the AFM transition temperature of bulk alpha-Cr2O3 oxide at about 320 K has been suppressed and ferrimagnetic behavior is observed from the analysis of the temperature dependence of magnetization data below 350 K. Apart from Ga doping effect, the spin freezing (5…
It was recently shown that the energy resolution of Ce-doped LaBr$_3$ scintillator radiation detectors can be crucially improved by co-doping with Sr, Ca, or Ba. Here we outline a mechanism for this enhancement on the basis of electronic structure calculations. We show that (i) Br vacancies are the primary electron traps during the initial stage of thermalization of hot carriers, prior to hole capture by Ce dopants; (ii) isolated Br vacancies are associated with deep levels; (iii) Sr doping increases the Br vacancy concentration by several orders of magnitude; (iv) $\text{Sr}_\text{La}$ binds …
The percentage of substitutional doping of magnetic atoms (Mn) in group-IV-based dilute magnetic semiconductors (DMS) can be increased by co-doping with another conventional electronic dopant (e-dopant) [Zhu et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 100, 027205 (2008)]. Here, we report extensive theoretical investigations of the kinetic and thermodynamic characteristics of several co-doped systems including bulk Si and Ge as hosts and various group-III and group-V e-dopants. The main findings are as follows: The n-p pairing of n-type e-dopants with p-type substitutional Mn is energetically stable in bulk Ge an…
Using the ab initio FLAPW-GGA method we examine the electronic and magnetic properties of nitrogen-doped non-magnetic sesquioxide La2O3 emphasizing the role of doping sites in the occurrence of d0-magnetism. We predict the magnetization of La2O3 induced by nitrogen impurity in both octahedral and tetrahedral sites of the oxygen sublattice. The most interesting results are that (i) the total magnetic moments (about 1 μB per supercells) are independent of the doping site, whereas (ii) the electronic spectra of these systems differ drastically: La2O3:N with six-fold coordinated nitrogen behaves a…
We present an angle-resolved photoemission study of the electronic band structure of the excitonic insulator Ta$_2$NiSe$_5$, as well as its evolution upon Sulfur doping. Our experimental data show that while the excitonic insulating phase is still preserved at a Sulfur-doping level of 25$\%$, such phase is heavily suppressed when there is a substantial amount, $\sim$ 50$\%$, of S-doping at liquid nitrogen temperatures. Moreover, our photon energy-dependent measurements reveal a clear three dimensionality of the electronic structure, both in Ta$_2$NiSe$_5$ and Ta$_2$Ni(Se$_{1-x}$S$_x$)$_5$ ($x=…
Properties of transition metal (TM) doped single wall (8,0) SiC nanotube is investigated using first principles density functional theory as implemented within quantum espresso code. The properties studied are electronic, optical, and hydrogen storage prospect, while the transition metals used in the doping are Iron, Manganese, and Cobalt. The outcomes show that ferromagnetic ordering better describes the magnetic order within the doping process. The dopings result in half-metallic property. Hybridization between TM-3d and C-2p near Fermi-level region contributes to occurrence of the half-meta…
High quality WSe2 films have been grown on bilayer graphene (BLG) with layer-by-layer control of thickness using molecular beam epitaxy (MBE). The combination of angle-resolved photoemission (ARPES), scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy (STM/STS), and optical absorption measurements reveal the atomic and electronic structures evolution and optical response of WSe2/BLG. We observe that a bilayer of WSe2 is a direct bandgap semiconductor, when integrated in a BLG-based heterostructure, thus shifting the direct-indirect band gap crossover to trilayer WSe2. In the monolayer limit, WSe2 shows…
Penta-graphene is a quasi-two-dimensional carbon allotrope consisting of a pentagonal lattice in which both sp2 and sp3-like carbons are present. Unlike graphene, penta-graphene exhibits a non-zero bandgap, which opens the possibility of its use in optoelectronic applications. However, as the observed bandgap is large, gap tuning strategies such as doping are required. In this work, density functional theory calculations are used to determine the effects of the different number of line defects of substitutional nitrogen or silicon atoms on the penta-graphene electronic behavior. Our results sh…
Surface doping of ZnO allows for tailoring the surface chemistry of the material while preserving the superb electronic structure of the bulk. Apart from obvious changes in adsorption energies and activation energies for catalysis, surface doping can alter the workfunction of the material and allow it to be tuned for specific photocatalytic and optoelectronic applications. We present first-principles electronic structure calculations for surface doping of Mn on the ZnO (0001) surface. Various dopant concentrations have been considered at the out-most (surface) layer of Zn atoms, while the inte…
New electrode materials for alkaline-ion batteries are a timely topic. Among many promising candidates, V2O5 is one of the most interesting cathode materials. While having very high theoretical capacity, in practice, its performance is hindered by low stability and poor conductivity. As regards theoretical descriptions of V2O5, common DFT-GGA calculations fail to reproduce both the electronic and crystal structure. While the band gap is underestimated, the interlayer spacing is overestimated as weak dispersion interactions are not properly described within GGA. Here we show that the combinatio…
We report a first principles systematic study of atomic, electronic, and magnetic properties of hydrogen saturated silicon nanowires (H-SiNW) which are doped by transition metal (TM) atoms placed at various interstitial sites. Our results obtained within the conventional GGA+U approach have been confirmed using an hybrid functional. In order to reveal the surface effects we examined three different possible facets of H-SiNW along [001] direction with a diameter of ~2nm. The energetics of doping and resulting electronic and magnetic properties are examined for all alternative configurations. We…
The doping of graphene to tune its electronic structure is essential for its further use in carbon based electronics. Adapting strategies from classical silicon based semiconductor technology, we use the incorporation of heteroatoms in the 2D graphene network as a straightforward way to achieve this goal. Here, we report on the synthesis of boron-doped graphene on Ni(111) in a chemical vapor deposition process of triethylborane on the one hand and by segregation of boron from the bulk on the other hand. The chemical environment of boron was determined by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and an…
