The effect of quantum particle production near the big rip singularity has been investigated previously, with the conclusion that the energy of the produced particle decreases as the future singularity is approached. Hence, the effect of particle production would not be effective to avoid the big rip singularity. That calculation was performed by introducing an ultra-violet cut-off. In the present work we consider a renormalization of the energy-momentum tensor, obtainning a different expression for the particle production. The new expression seems to indicate that the effect of particle production may be dominant as the singularity is approached.

We introduce a general characterization of sudden cosmological singularities and investigate the classical stability of homogeneous and isotropic cosmological solutions of all curvatures containing these singularities to small scalar, vector, and tensor perturbations using gauge invariant perturbation theory. Late time cosmological solutions for scalar field model with kinetic and Gauss Bonnet couplings are considered. The quintom scenario is realized with and without Big Rip singularity. We find that under specific choice of the Gauss Bonnet coupling, the model considerable simplifies, giving rise to solutions where the kinetic term is proportional to the square of the Hubble parameter. I investigate the repercussions of particle production when the Universe is dominated by a hypothetical phantom substance. I show that backreaction due to particle production prevents the density from shooting to infinity at a Big Rip, but instead forces it to stabilise at a large constant value. Afterwards there is a period of de-Sitter inflation. I speculate that this might lead to a cyclic Universe.

We present a new cosmological event, which we named the little sibling of the big rip. This event is much smoother than the big rip singularity. When the little sibling of the big rip is reached, the Hubble rate and the scale factor blow up but the cosmic derivative of the Hubble rate does not. In the holographic Ricci dark energy (RDE) model, the parameter $α$ plays an important role in determining the evolutionary behavior of the dark energy. When $α<1/2$, the RDE will exhibit a quintom feature, i.e., the equation of state of dark energy will evolve across the cosmological constant boundary $w=-1$. We study the conformal structure of exotic (non-big-bang) singularity universes using the hybrid big-bang/exotic singularity/big-bang and big-rip/exotic singularity/big-rip models by investigating their appropriate Penrose diagrams. In this paper we study the behavior of the multi-field in phantom inflation, when massive scalar fields work collectively, in which the scale factor is a power law. We evaluate its parameter values by applying certain constraints on our model parameters, and we investigate that before the Big Rip singularity occurs the universe is in phantom inflationary phase. We discuss exotic singularities in the evolution of the universe motivated by the progress of observations in cosmology. Among them there are: Big-Rip (BR), Sudden Future Singularities (SFS), Generalized Sudden Future Singularities (GSFS), Finite Density Singularities (FD), type III, and type IV singularities. We relate some of these singularities with higher-order characteristics of expansion such as jerk and snap. We also discuss the behaviour of pointlike objects and classical strings on the approach to these singularities.

A recent model predicting Omori's law giving the number of aftershocks per unit time following an earthquake involves a differential equation analogous to the Friedmann equation of cosmology. The time evolution of a wormhole in a Friedmann universe approaching the Big Rip is studied. The wormhole is modeled by a thin spherical shell accreting the superquintessence fluid - two different models are presented. Contrary to recent claims that the wormhole overtakes the expansion of the universe and engulfs it before the Big Rip is reached, it is found that the wormhole becomes asymptotically comoving with the cosmic fluid and the future evolution of the universe is fully causal.
The effects of the gravitational back reaction of cosmological perturbations are investigated in a cosmological model where the universe is dominated by phantom energy. We assume a COBE normalized spectrum of cosmological fluctuations at the present time and calculate the effective energy-momentum tensor of the gravitational back-reactions of cosmological perturbations whose wavelengths at the time when the back-reactions are evaluated are larger than the Hubble radius. We consider a cosmological scenario in which the expansion of the Universe is dominated by phantom dark energy and black holes which condense out of the latter component. The mass of black holes decreases via Hawking evaporation and by accretion of phantom fluid but new black holes arise continuously whence the overall evolution can be rather complex. We study the corresponding dynamical system to unravel this evolution and single out scenarios where the big rip singularity does not occur.
In the framework of a single scalar field quintom model with higher derivative, we construct in this paper a dark energy model of which the equation of state (EOS) $w$ crosses over the cosmological constant boundary. Interestingly during the evolution of the universe $w<-1$ happens just for a period of time with a distinguished feature that $w$ starts with a value above -1, transits into $w<-1$, then comes back to $w>-1$. This avoids the Big Rip jeopardy induced by $w<-1$.
We present an holographic brane-world model of the Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati (DGP) scenario with and without a Gauss-Bonnet term (GB) in the bulk. We show that a generalised phantom Chaplygin gas can present a future singularity in a finite future cosmic time. Unlike the big rip singularity, this singularity happens for a finite scale factor, but like the big rip singularity, it would also take place at a finite future cosmic time. In addition, we define a dual of the generalised phantom Chaplygin gas which satisfies the null energy condition. Then, in a Randall-Sundrum 1 brane-world scenario, we show that the same kind of singularity at a finite scale factor arises for a brane filled with a dual of the generalised phantom Chaplygin gas.
By studying a modified Friedmann equation which arises in an extension of general relativity which accommodates a time-dependent fundamental length $L(t)$, we consider cosmological models where the scale factor diverges with an essential singularity at a finite future time. Such models have no dark energy in the conventional sense of energy possessing a truly simple pressure-energy relationship. We confront dark energy models which are currently similar to $Λ$CDM theory with observational data which include the SNe data, matter density perturbations and baryon acoustic oscillations data. We study the accelerating cosmology in massive $F(R)$ bigravity via the reconstruction scheme. The consistent solution of the FRW equations is presented: it includes Big and Little Rip, quintessence, de Sitter and decelerating universes described by the physical $g$ metric while the corresponding solution of the universe described by the reference $f$ metric is also found. We discuss the behaviour of strings propagating in spacetimes which allow future singularities of either a sudden future or a Big-Rip type. We show that in general the invariant string size remains finite at sudden future singularities while it grows to infinity at a Big-Rip. This claim is based on the discussion of both the tensile and null strings. In conclusion, strings may survive a sudden future singularity, but not a Big-Rip where they are infinitely stretched.

We investigate a family of inhomogeneous and anisotropic gravitational fields exhibiting a future singularity at a finite value of the proper time. The studied spherically symmetric spacetimes are asymptotically Friedmann-Robertson-Walker at spatial infinity and describe wormhole configurations filled with two matter components: one inhomogeneous and anisotropic fluid and another isotropic and homogeneously distributed fluid, characterized by the supernegative equation of state ω=p/ρ< -1.
