While linear programming (LP) decoding provides more flexibility for finite-length performance analysis than iterative message-passing (IMP) decoding, it is computationally more complex to implement in its original form, due to both the large size of the relaxed LP problem, and the inefficiency of using general-purpose LP solvers. This paper explores ideas for fast LP decoding of low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes. We first prove, by modifying the previously reported Adaptive LP decoding scheme to allow removal of unnecessary constraints, that LP decoding can be performed by solving a number of LP problems that contain at most one linear constraint derived from each of the parity-check constraints. By exploiting this property, we study a sparse interior-point implementation for solving this sequence of linear programs. Since the most complex part of each iteration of the interior-point algorithm is the solution of a (usually ill-conditioned) system of linear equations for finding the step direction, we propose a preconditioning algorithm to facilitate iterative solution of such systems. The proposed preconditioning algorithm is similar to the encoding procedure of LDPC codes, and we demonstrate its effectiveness via both analytical methods and computer simulation results.
Whereas many results are known about thresholds for ensembles of low-density parity-check codes under message-passing iterative decoding, this is not the case for linear programming decoding. Towards closing this knowledge gap, this paper presents some bounds on the thresholds of low-density parity-check code ensembles under linear programming decoding.
Mathematical programming is a branch of applied mathematics and has recently been used to derive new decoding approaches, challenging established but often heuristic algorithms based on iterative message passing. Concepts from mathematical programming used in the context of decoding include linear, integer, and nonlinear programming, network flows, notions of duality as well as matroid and polyhedral theory. This survey article reviews and categorizes decoding methods based on mathematical programming approaches for binary linear codes over binary-input memoryless symmetric channels.
In previous work, we demonstrated how decoding of a non-binary linear code could be formulated as a linear-programming problem. In this paper, we study different polytopes for use with linear-programming decoding, and show that for many classes of codes these polytopes yield a complexity advantage for decoding. These representations lead to polynomial-time decoders for a wide variety of classical non-binary linear codes.
Interior-point algorithms constitute a very interesting class of algorithms for solving linear-programming problems. In this paper we study efficient implementations of such algorithms for solving the linear program that appears in the linear-programming decoder formulation.
Decoding error-correctiong codes by methods of mathematical optimization, most importantly linear programming, has become an important alternative approach to both algebraic and iterative decoding methods since its introduction by Feldman et al. At first celebrated mainly for its analytical powers, real-world applications of LP decoding are now within reach thanks to most recent research. This document gives an elaborate introduction into both mathematical optimization and coding theory as well as a review of the contributions by which these two areas have found common ground.
In this paper we show how the complexity of Linear Programming (LP) decoder can decrease. We use the degree 3 check equation to model all variation check degrees. The complexity of LP decoding is directed relative to the number of constraint. Number of constraint for original LP decoder is O(n*(2^n)). Our method decrease the number of the constraint to O(n).
We develop a framework for linear-programming (LP) decoding of non-binary linear codes over rings. We prove that the resulting LP decoder has the `maximum likelihood certificate' property, and we show that the decoder output is the lowest cost pseudocodeword. Equivalence between pseudocodewords of the linear program and pseudocodewords of graph covers is proved. LP decoding performance is illustrated for the (11,6,5) ternary Golay code with ternary PSK modulation over AWGN, and in this case it is shown that the LP decoder performance is comparable to codeword-error-rate-optimum hard-decision b…
We propose several improvements for Linear Programming (LP) decoding algorithms for High Density Parity Check (HDPC) codes. First, we use the automorphism groups of a code to create parity check matrix diversity and to generate valid cuts from redundant parity checks. Second, we propose an efficient mixed integer decoder utilizing the branch and bound method. We further enhance the proposed decoders by removing inactive constraints and by adapting the parity check matrix prior to decoding according to the channel observations. Based on simulation results the proposed decoders achieve near-ML p…
In this paper, we introduce an efficient iterative solver for the joint linear-programming (LP) decoding of low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes and finite-state channels (FSCs). In particular, we extend the approach of iterative approximate LP decoding, proposed by Vontobel and Koetter and explored by Burshtein, to this problem. By taking advantage of the dual-domain structure of the joint decoding LP, we obtain a convergent iterative algorithm for joint LP decoding whose structure is similar to BCJR-based turbo equalization (TE). The result is a joint iterative decoder whose complexity is s…
In this paper we explore the decision regions of Linear Programming (LP) decoding. We compare the decision regions of an LP decoder, a Belief Propagation (BP) decoder and the optimal Maximum Likelihood (ML) decoder. We study the effect of minimal-weight pseudocodewords on LP decoding. We present global optimization as a method for finding the minimal pseudoweight of a given code as well as the number of minimal-weight generators. We present a complete pseudoweight distribution for the [24; 12; 8] extended Golay code, and provide justifications of why the pseudoweight distribution alone cannot …
Detectability of failures of linear programming (LP) decoding and the potential for improvement by adding new constraints motivate the use of an adaptive approach in selecting the constraints for the underlying LP problem. In this paper, we make a first step in studying this method, and show that it can significantly reduce the complexity of the problem, which was originally exponential in the maximum check-node degree. We further show that adaptively adding new constraints, e.g. by combining parity checks, can provide large gains in the performance.

A framework for linear-programming (LP) decoding of nonbinary linear codes over rings is developed. This framework facilitates linear-programming based reception for coded modulation systems which use direct modulation mapping of coded symbols. It is proved that the resulting LP decoder has the 'maximum-likelihood certificate' property. It is also shown that the decoder output is the lowest cost pseudocodeword. Equivalence between pseudocodewords of the linear program and pseudocodewords of graph covers is proved. It is also proved that if the modulator-channel combination satisfies a particul…
We analyze Linear Programming (LP) decoding of graphical binary codes operating over soft-output, symmetric and log-concave channels. We show that the error-surface, separating domain of the correct decoding from domain of the erroneous decoding, is a polytope. We formulate the problem of finding the lowest-weight pseudo-codeword as a non-convex optimization (maximization of a convex function) over a polytope, with the cost function defined by the channel and the polytope defined by the structure of the code. This formulation suggests new provably convergent heuristics for finding the lowest w…
In Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) systems, Maximum-Likelihood (ML) decoding is equivalent to finding the closest lattice point in an N-dimensional complex space. In general, this problem is known to be NP hard. In this paper, we propose a quasi-maximum likelihood algorithm based on Semi-Definite Programming (SDP). We introduce several SDP relaxation models for MIMO systems, with increasing complexity. We use interior-point methods for solving the models and obtain a near-ML performance with polynomial computational complexity. Lattice basis reduction is applied to further reduce the computati…
In this paper, the linear programming (LP) decoder for binary linear codes, introduced by Feldman, et al. is extended to joint-decoding of binary-input finite-state channels. In particular, we provide a rigorous definition of LP joint-decoding pseudo-codewords (JD-PCWs) that enables evaluation of the pairwise error probability between codewords and JD-PCWs. This leads naturally to a provable upper bound on decoder failure probability. If the channel is a finite-state intersymbol interference channel, then the LP joint decoder also has the maximum-likelihood (ML) certificate property and all in…
In this paper, we develop a new decoding algorithm of a binary linear codes for symbol-pair read channels. Symbol-pair read channel has recently been introduced by Cassuto and Blaum to model channels with high write resolution but low read resolution. The proposed decoding algorithm is based on a linear programming (LP). It is proved that the proposed LP decoder has the maximum-likelihood (ML) certificate property, i.e., the output of the decoder is guaranteed to be the ML codeword when it is integral. We also introduce the fractional pair distance $d_{fp}$ of a code which is a lower bound on …
We consider transmission over a binary-input additive white Gaussian noise channel using low-density parity-check codes. One of the most popular techniques for decoding low-density parity-check codes is the linear programming decoder. In general, the linear programming decoder is suboptimal. I.e., the word error rate is higher than the optimal, maximum a posteriori decoder. In this paper we present a systematic approach to enhance the linear program decoder. More precisely, in the cases where the linear program outputs a fractional solution, we give a simple algorithm to identify frustrated cy…
Linear programming (LP) decoding approximates maximum-likelihood (ML) decoding of a linear block code by relaxing the equivalent ML integer programming (IP) problem into a more easily solved LP problem. The LP problem is defined by a set of box constraints together with a set of linear inequalities called "parity inequalities" that are derived from the constraints represented by the rows of a parity-check matrix of the code and can be added iteratively and adaptively. In this paper, we first derive a new necessary condition and a new sufficient condition for a violated parity inequality constr…
We consider linear-programming (LP) decoding of low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes. While it is clear that one can use any general-purpose LP solver to solve the LP that appears in the decoding problem, we argue in this paper that the LP at hand is equipped with a lot of structure that one should take advantage of. Towards this goal, we study the dual LP and show how coordinate-ascent methods lead to very simple update rules that are tightly connected to the min-sum algorithm. Moreover, replacing minima in the formula of the dual LP with soft-minima one obtains update rules that are tightly…
A coded modulation system is considered in which nonbinary coded symbols are mapped directly to nonbinary modulation signals. It is proved that if the modulator-channel combination satisfies a particular symmetry condition, the codeword error rate performance is independent of the transmitted codeword. It is shown that this result holds for both linear-programming decoders and sum-product decoders. In particular, this provides a natural modulation mapping for nonbinary codes mapped to PSK constellations for transmission over memoryless channels such as AWGN channels or flat fading channels wit…
In this paper we present a new Turbo analog error correcting coding scheme for real valued signals that are corrupted by impulsive noise. This Turbo code improves Donoho's deterministic construction by using a probabilistic approach. More specifically, our construction corrects more errors than the matrices of Donoho by allowing a vanishingly small probability of error (with the increase in block size). The problem of decoding the long block code is decoupled into two sets of parallel Linear Programming problems. This leads to a significant reduction in decoding complexity as compared to one-s…
Applying the max-product (and belief-propagation) algorithms to loopy graphs is now quite popular for best assignment problems. This is largely due to their low computational complexity and impressive performance in practice. Still, there is no general understanding of the conditions required for convergence and/or the optimality of converged solutions. This paper presents an analysis of both attenuated max-product (AMP) decoding and weighted min-sum (WMS) decoding for LDPC codes which guarantees convergence to a fixed point when a weight parameter, β, is sufficiently small. It also shows that…
This paper presents a computationally efficient decoder for multiple antenna systems. The proposed algorithm can be used for any constellation (QAM or PSK) and any labeling method. The decoder is based on matrix-lifting Semi-Definite Programming (SDP). The strength of the proposed method lies in a new relaxation algorithm applied to the method of Mobasher et al. This results in a reduction of the number of variables from $(NK+1)^2$ to $(2N+K)^2$, where $N$ is the number of antennas and $K$ is the number of constellation points in each real dimension. Since the computational complexity of solvi…
This is a tale of two linear programming decoders, namely channel coding linear programming decoding (CC-LPD) and compressed sensing linear programming decoding (CS-LPD). So far, they have evolved quite independently. The aim of the present paper is to show that there is a tight connection between, on the one hand, CS-LPD based on a zero-one measurement matrix over the reals and, on the other hand, CC-LPD of the binary linear code that is obtained by viewing this measurement matrix as a binary parity-check matrix. This connection allows one to translate performance guarantees from one setup to…
We examine LDPC codes decoded using linear programming (LP). Four contributions to the LP framework are presented. First, a new method of tightening the LP relaxation, and thus improving the LP decoder, is proposed. Second, we present an algorithm which calculates a lower bound on the minimum distance of a specific code. This algorithm exhibits complexity which scales quadratically with the block length. Third, we propose a method to obtain a tight lower bound on the fractional distance, also with quadratic complexity, and thus less than previously-existing methods. Finally, we show how the fu…
In this letter, we develop an efficient linear programming (LP) decoding algorithm for low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes. We first relax the maximum likelihood (ML) decoding problem to a LP problem by using check-node decomposition. Then, to solve the resulting LP problem, we propose an efficient iterative algorithm based on the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) technique. In addition, the feasibility analysis of the proposed algorithm is presented. Furthermore, through exploiting the sparsity and orthogonality structures of the LP problem, the computational complexity of …
In this paper, we present an improved union bound on the Linear Programming (LP) decoding performance of the binary linear codes transmitted over an additive white Gaussian noise channels. The bounding technique is based on the second-order of Bonferroni-type inequality in probability theory, and it is minimized by Prim's minimum spanning tree algorithm. The bound calculation needs the fundamental cone generators of a given parity-check matrix rather than only their weight spectrum, but involves relatively low computational complexity. It is targeted to high-density parity-check codes, where t…
Polar codes are high density parity check codes and hence the sparse factor graph, instead of the parity check matrix, has been used to practically represent an LP polytope for LP decoding. Although LP decoding on this polytope has the ML-certificate property, it performs poorly over a BAWGN channel. In this paper, we propose modifications to adaptive cut generation based LP decoding techniques and apply the modified-adaptive LP decoder to short blocklength polar codes over a BAWGN channel. The proposed decoder provides significant FER performance gain compared to the previously proposed LP de…
Linear Programming (LP) decoding of Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) codes has attracted much attention in the research community in the past few years. The aim of LP decoding is to develop an algorithm which has error-correcting performance similar to that of the Sum-Product (SP) decoding algorithm, while at the same time it should be amenable to mathematical analysis. The LP decoding algorithm has also been extended to nonbinary linear codes by Flanagan et al. However, the most important problem with LP decoding for both binary and nonbinary linear codes is that the complexity of standard LP …
An efficient implementation of min-sum SC/list decoding of convolutional polar codes is proposed. The complexity of the proposed implementation of SC decoding is more than two times smaller than the straightforward implementation. Moreover, the proposed list decoding algorithm does not require to copy any LLRs during decoding.
We initiate the probabilistic analysis of linear programming (LP) decoding of low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes. Specifically, we show that for a random LDPC code ensemble, the linear programming decoder of Feldman et al. succeeds in correcting a constant fraction of errors with high probability. The fraction of correctable errors guaranteed by our analysis surpasses previous non-asymptotic results for LDPC codes, and in particular exceeds the best previous finite-length result on LP decoding by a factor greater than ten. This improvement stems in part from our analysis of probabilistic bi…
Linear constraints for a matrix polytope with no fractional vertex are investigated as intersecting research among permutation codes, rank modulations, and linear programming methods. By focusing the discussion to the block structure of matrices, new classes of such polytopes are obtained from known small polytopes. This concept, called "consolidation", is applied to find a new compact graph which is known as an approach for the graph isomorphism problem. Encoding and decoding algorithms for our new permutation codes are obtained from existing algorithms for small polytopes. The minimum distan…
This paper considers the joint-decoding (JD) problem for finite-state channels (FSCs) and low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes. In the first part, the linear-programming (LP) decoder for binary linear codes is extended to JD of binary-input FSCs. In particular, we provide a rigorous definition of LP joint-decoding pseudo-codewords (JD-PCWs) that enables evaluation of the pairwise error probability between codewords and JD-PCWs in AWGN. This leads naturally to a provable upper bound on decoder failure probability. If the channel is a finite-state intersymbol interference channel, then the join…
Layered decoding is well appreciated in Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) decoder implementation since it can achieve effectively high decoding throughput with low computation complexity. This work, for the first time, addresses low complexity column-layered decoding schemes and VLSI architectures for multi-Gb/s applications. At first, the Min-Sum algorithm is incorporated into the column-layered decoding. Then algorithmic transformations and judicious approximations are explored to minimize the overall computation complexity. Compared to the original column-layered decoding, the new approach ca…
We propose an approximation of maximum-likelihood detection in ISI channels based on linear programming or message passing. We convert the detection problem into a binary decoding problem, which can be easily combined with LDPC decoding. We show that, for a certain class of channels and in the absence of coding, the proposed technique provides the exact ML solution without an exponential complexity in the size of channel memory, while for some other channels, this method has a non-diminishing probability of failure as SNR increases. Some analysis is provided for the error events of the propose…
For a given family of spatially coupled codes, we prove that the LP threshold on the BSC of the graph cover ensemble is the same as the LP threshold on the BSC of the derived spatially coupled ensemble. This result is in contrast with the fact that the BP threshold of the derived spatially coupled ensemble is believed to be larger than the BP threshold of the graph cover ensemble as noted by the work of Kudekar et al. (2011, 2012). To prove this, we establish some properties related to the dual witness for LP decoding which was introduced by Feldman et al. (2007) and simplified by Daskalakis e…
In this paper, we present a fast min-sum algorithm for decoding LDPC codes over GF(q). Our algorithm is different from the one presented by David Declercq and Marc Fossorier in ISIT 05 only at the way of speeding up the horizontal scan in the min-sum algorithm. The Declercq and Fossorier's algorithm speeds up the computation by reducing the number of configurations, while our algorithm uses the dynamic programming instead. Compared with the configuration reduction algorithm, the dynamic programming one is simpler at the design stage because it has less parameters to tune. Furthermore, it does …
Maximum Likelihood (ML) decoding is the optimal decoding algorithm for arbitrary linear block codes and can be written as an Integer Programming (IP) problem. Feldman et al. relaxed this IP problem and presented Linear Programming (LP) based decoding algorithm for linear block codes. In this paper, we propose a new IP formulation of the ML decoding problem and solve the IP with generic methods. The formulation uses indicator variables to detect violated parity checks. We derive Gomory cuts from our formulation and use them in a separation algorithm to find ML codewords. We further propose an e…
In this work, we consider adaptive linear programming (ALP) decoding of linear codes over the finite field $\mathbb{F}_p$ of size $p$ where $p$ is a prime. In particular, we provide a general construction of valid inequalities for the codeword polytope of the so-called constant-weight embedding of a single parity-check (SPC) code over any prime field. The construction is based on classes of building blocks that are assembled to form the left-hand side of an inequality according to several rules. In the case of almost doubly-symmetric valid classes we prove that the resulting inequalities are a…
Iterative decoding of non-binary LDPC codes is currently performed using either the Sum-Product or the Min-Sum algorithms or slightly different versions of them. In this paper, several low-complexity quasi-optimal iterative algorithms are proposed for decoding non-binary codes. The Min-Max algorithm is one of them and it has the benefit of two possible LLR domain implementations: a standard implementation, whose complexity scales as the square of the Galois field's cardinality and a reduced complexity implementation called selective implementation, which makes the Min-Max decoding very attract…
We formulate maximum likelihood (ML) channel decoding as a quadratic unconstraint binary optimization (QUBO) and simulate the decoding by the current commercial quantum annealing machine, D-Wave 2000Q. We prepared two implementations with Ising model formulations, generated from the generator matrix and the parity-check matrix respectively. We evaluated these implementations of ML decoding for low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes, analyzing the number of spins and connections and comparing the decoding performance with belief propagation (BP) decoding and brute-force ML decoding with classica…
We illustrate the utility of the recently developed loop calculus for improving the Belief Propagation (BP) algorithm. If the algorithm that minimizes the Bethe free energy fails we modify the free energy by accounting for a critical loop in a graphical representation of the code. The log-likelihood specific critical loop is found by means of the loop calculus. The general method is tested using an example of the Linear Programming (LP) decoding, that can be viewed as a special limit of the BP decoding. Considering the (155,64,20) code that performs over Additive-White-Gaussian-Noise channel w…
The goal of the present paper is the derivation of a framework for the finite-length analysis of message-passing iterative decoding of low-density parity-check codes. To this end we introduce the concept of graph-cover decoding. Whereas in maximum-likelihood decoding all codewords in a code are competing to be the best explanation of the received vector, under graph-cover decoding all codewords in all finite covers of a Tanner graph representation of the code are competing to be the best explanation. We are interested in graph-cover decoding because it is a theoretical tool that can be used to…
The successive cancellation list decoding algorithm for polar codes yields near-optimal decoding performance at the cost of high implementation complexity. The successive cancellation stack algorithm has been shown to provide similar decoding performance at a much lower computational complexity, but software implementations report a sub-par T/P performance. In this technical report, the benefits of the fast simplified successive cancellation list decoder are extended to the stack algorithm, resulting in a throughput increase by two orders of magnitude over the traditional stack decoder.
We introduce a novel algorithm for decoding binary linear codes by linear programming. We build on the LP decoding algorithm of Feldman et al. and introduce a post-processing step that solves a second linear program that reweights the objective function based on the outcome of the original LP decoder output. Our analysis shows that for some LDPC ensembles we can improve the provable threshold guarantees compared to standard LP decoding. We also show significant empirical performance gains for the reweighted LP decoding algorithm with very small additional computational complexity.
The performance of convolutional codes decoding by the Viterbi algorithm should not depend on the particular distribution of zeros and ones in the input messages, as they are linear. However, it was identified that specific implementations of Add-Compare-Select unit for the Viterbi Algorithm demonstrate the decoding performance that depends on proportion of elements in the input message. It is conjectured that the modern commercial hard- and software defined communication equipment may also feature similar implementation and as such their decoding performance could also vary.
In this paper, the performance of quadratic residue (QR) codes of lengths within 100 is given and analyzed when the hard decoding, soft decoding, and linear programming decoding algorithms are utilized. We develop a simple method to estimate the soft decoding performance, which avoids extensive simulations. Also, a simulation-based algorithm is proposed to obtain the maximum likelihood decoding performance of QR codes of lengths within 100. Moreover, four important theorems are proposed to predict the performance of the hard decoding and the maximum-likelihood decoding in which they can explor…
This paper characterizes the latency of the simplified successive-cancellation (SSC) decoding scheme for polar codes under hardware resource constraints. In particular, when the number of processing elements $P$ that can perform SSC decoding operations in parallel is limited, as is the case in practice, the latency of SSC decoding is $O\left(N^{1-1/μ}+\frac{N}{P}\log_2\log_2\frac{N}{P}\right)$, where $N$ is the block length of the code and $μ$ is the scaling exponent of the channel. Three direct consequences of this bound are presented. First, in a fully-parallel implementation where $P=\frac{…
Guessing Random Additive Noise Decoding (GRAND) is a recently proposed universal Maximum Likelihood (ML) decoder for short-length and high-rate linear block-codes. Soft-GRAND (SGRAND) is a prominent soft-input GRAND variant, outperforming the other GRAND variants in decoding performance; nevertheless, SGRAND is not suitable for parallel hardware implementation. Ordered Reliability Bits-GRAND (ORBGRAND) is another soft-input GRAND variant that is suitable for parallel hardware implementation, however it has lower decoding performance than SGRAND. In this paper, we propose List-GRAND (LGRAND), a…
In this paper we present an alternative separable implementation of L2-orthogonal space-time codes (STC) for continuous phase modulation (CPM). In this approach, we split the STC CPM transmitter into a single conventional CPM modulator and a correction filter bank. While the CPM modulator is common to all transmit antennas, the correction filter bank applies different correction units to each antenna. Thereby desirable code properties as orthogonality and full diversity are achievable with just a slightly larger bandwidth demand. This new representation has three main advantages. First, it all…
We present a hardware-based implementation of Linear Program (LP) decoding for binary linear codes. LP decoding frames error-correction as an optimization problem. In contrast, variants of Belief Propagation (BP) decoding frame error-correction as a problem of graphical inference. LP decoding has several advantages over BP-based methods, including convergence guarantees and better error-rate performance in high-reliability channels. The latter makes LP decoding attractive for optical transport and storage applications. However, LP decoding, when implemented with general solvers, does not scale…
In Linear Programming (LP) decoding of a Low-Density-Parity-Check (LDPC) code one minimizes a linear functional, with coefficients related to log-likelihood ratios, over a relaxation of the polytope spanned by the codewords \cite{03FWK}. In order to quantify LP decoding, and thus to describe performance of the error-correction scheme at moderate and large Signal-to-Noise-Ratios (SNR), it is important to study the relaxed polytope to understand better its vertexes, so-called pseudo-codewords, especially those which are neighbors of the zero codeword. In this manuscript we propose a technique to…
Due to the low-latency and high-reliability requirements of 5G, low-complexity node-based successive cancellation list (SCL) decoding has received considerable attention for use in 5G communications systems. By identifying special constituent codes in the decoding tree and immediately decoding these, node-based SCL decoding provides a significant reduction in decoding latency compared to conventional SCL decoding. However, while there exists many types of nodes, the current node-based SCL decoders are limited by the lack of a more generalized node that can efficiently decode a larger number of…
We consider the problem of Linear Programming (LP) decoding of binary linear codes. The LP excess lemma was introduced by the first author, B. Ghazi, and R. Urbanke (IEEE Trans. Inf. Th., 2014) as a technique to trade crossover probability for "LP excess" over the Binary Symmetric Channel. We generalize the LP excess lemma to discrete, binary-input, Memoryless, Symmetric and LLR-Bounded (MSB) channels. As an application, we extend a result by the first author and H. Audah (IEEE Trans. Inf. Th., 2015) on the impact of redundant checks on LP decoding to discrete MSB channels.
Recent performance analysis of dual-function radar communications (DFRC) systems, which embed information using phase shift keying (PSK) into multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) frequency hopping (FH) radar pulses, shows promising results for addressing spectrum sharing issues between radar and communications. However, the problem of decoding information at the communication receiver remains challenging, since the DFRC transmitter is typically assumed to transmit only information embedded radar waveforms and not the training sequence. We propose a novel method for decoding information at the…
We examine regular and irregular repeat-accumulate (RA) codes with repetition degrees which are all even. For these codes and with a particular choice of an interleaver, we give an upper bound on the decoding error probability of a linear-programming based decoder which is an inverse polynomial in the block length. Our bound is valid for any memoryless, binary-input, output-symmetric (MBIOS) channel. This result generalizes the bound derived by Feldman et al., which was for regular RA(2) codes.
