We introduce two operads which own the set of planar forests as a basis. With its usual product and two other products defined by different types of graftings, the algebra of planar rooted trees H becomes an algebra over these operads. The compatibility with the infinitesimal coproduct of H and these structures is studied. As an application, an inductive way of computing the dual basis of H for its infinitesimal pairing is given. Moreover, three Cartier-Quillen-Milnor-Moore theorems are given for the operads of planar forests and a rigidity theorem for one of them.
The purpose of this paper is two fold: we study the behaviour of the forgetful functor from S-modules to graded vector spaces in the context of algebras over an operad and derive from this theory the construction of combinatorial Hopf algebras. As a byproduct we obtain freeness and cofreeness results for these Hopf algebras. Let O denote the forgetful functor from S-modules to graded vector spaces. Left modules over an operad P are treated as P-algebras in the category of S-modules. We generalize the results obtained by Patras and Reutenauer in the associative case to any operad P: the functor…
The present article takes advantage of the properties of algebras in the category of S-modules (twisted algebras) to investigate further the fine algebraic structure of Hopf operads. We prove that any Hopf operad P carries naturally the structure of twisted Hopf P-algebra. Many properties of classical Hopf algebraic structures are then shown to be encapsulated in the twisted Hopf algebraic structure of the corresponding Hopf operad. In particular, various classical theorems of Lie theory relating Lie polynomials to words (i.e. elements of the tensor algebra) are lifted to arbitrary Hopf operad…
We describe the Koszul dual of two quadratic operads on planar forests introduced to study the infinitesimal Hopf algebra of planar rooted trees and prove that these operads are Koszul.
The notion of a coherent unit action on algebraic operads was first introduced by Loday for binary quadratic nonsymmetric operads and generalized by Holtkamp, to ensure that the free objects of the operads carry a Hopf algebra structure. There was also a classification of such operads in the binary quadratic nonsymmetric case. We generalize the notion of coherent unit action to braided operads and show that free objects of braided operads with such an action carries a braided Hopf algebra structure. Under the conditions of binary, quadratic and nonsymmetric, we give a characterization and clas…
We study P-Hopf algebras with one coassociative cooperation over different operads P. For example, we consider the Loday-Ronco dendriform Hopf algebra and its isomorphisms with the noncommutative planar Connes-Kreimer Hopf algebra and with a Hopf algebra of Brouder and Frabetti. We focus on Hopf algebra structures over free operads, like the operad Mag freely generated by a non-commutative non-associative binary operation, and the operad of Stasheff polytopes. In order to describe the operads of primitive elements we prove an analogon of the Poincare-Birkhoff-Witt theorem. We determine the gen…
Starting from an operad, one can build a family of posets. From this family of posets, one can define an incidence Hopf algebra. By another construction, one can also build a group directly from the operad. We then consider its Hopf algebra of functions. We prove that there exists a surjective morphism from the latter Hopf algebra to the former one. This is illustrated by the case of an operad built on rooted trees, the $\NAP$ operad, where the incidence Hopf algebra is identified with the Connes-Kreimer Hopf algebra of rooted trees.
Infinitesimal bialgebras were introduced by Joni and Rota. An infinitesimal bialgebra is at the same time an algebra and coalgebra, in such a way that the comultiplication is a derivation. Twenty years after Joni and Rota, Aguiar introduced the concept of an infinitesimal (non-unitary) Hopf algebra. In this paper we study infinitesimal unitary bialgebras and infinitesimal unitary Hopf algebras, in contrary to Aguiar's approach. Using an infinitesimal version of the Hochschild 1-cocycle condition, we prove respectively that a class of decorated planar rooted forests is the free cocycle infinite…
The operad Lie can be constructed as the operad of primitives Prim As from the operad As of associative algebras. This is reflected by the theorems of Friedrichs, Poincare'-Birkhoff-Witt and Cartier-Milnor-Moore. We replace As by families of free operads P, which include the operad Mag freely generated by a noncommutative non-associative binary operation and the operad of Stasheff polytopes. We obtain Poincare'-Birkhoff-Witt type theorems and collect information about the operads Prim P, e.g. in terms of characteristic functions.
We study various invariants, such as cohomology groups, derivations, automorphisms and infinitesimal deformations, of algebraic operads and show that $\mathcal{A}ss$, $\mathcal{C}com$, $\mathcal{L}ie$ and $\mathcal{P}ois$ are rigid or semirigid.
Coherent unit actions on a binary, quadratic operad were introduced by Loday and were shown by him to give Hopf algebra structures on the free algebras when the operad is also regular with a splitting of associativity. Working with such operads, we characterize coherent unit actions in terms of linear equations of the generators of the operads. We then use these equations to give all possible operad relations that allow such coherent unit actions. We further show that coherent unit actions are preserved under taking products and thus yield Hopf algebras on the free object of the product operad…
We study different algebraic structures associated to an operad and their relations: to any operad $\mathbf{P}$ is attached a bialgebra, the monoid of characters of this bialgebra, the underlying pre-Lie algebra and its enveloping algebra; all of them can be explicitely describedwith the help of the operadic composition. non-commutative versions are also given. We denote by $\mathbf{b\_\infty}$ the operad of $\mathbf{b\_\infty}$ algebras, describing all Hopf algebra structures on a symmetric coalgebra. If there exists an operad morphism from $\mathbf{b\_\infty}$ to $\mathbf{P}$, a pair $(A,B)$ o…
We introduce an infinitesimal Hopf algebra of planar trees, generalising the construction of the non-commutative Connes-Kreimer Hopf algebra. A non-degenerate pairing and a dual basis are defined, and a combinatorial interpretation of the pairing in terms of orders on the vertices of planar forests is given. Moreover, the coproduct and the pairing can also be described with the help of a partial order on the set of planar forests, making it isomorphic to the Tamari poset. As a corollary, the dual basis can be computed with a Möbius inversion.
In 2008, Loday shed light on the existence of Hopf-Boreltheorems for operads. Using the vocabulary of category theory, Livernet,Mesablishvili and Wisbauer extended such theorems to monads. In bothcases, the reasoning was to start from a mixed distributive law andthen to prove that it induces an isomorphism of species to finally geta rigidity theorem. Our reasoning goes here backward: we prove thatfrom an isomorphism of species one can get what we called a confluencelaw, which generalises mixed distributive laws, and that it is enough toobtain a rigidity theorem. This enables us to show that fo…
We introduce a non-symmetric operad $\mathcal{N}$, whose dimension in degree $n$ is given by the Catalan number $c_{n-1}$. It arises naturally in the study of coalgebra structures defined on compatible associative algebras. We prove that any free compatible associative algebra admits a compatible infinitesimal bialgebra structure, whose subspace of primitive elements is a $\mathcal{N}$-algebra. The data $({\rm As},{\rm As}^2, \mathcal{N})$ is a good triple of operads, in J.-L. Loday's sense. Our construction induces another triple of operads $({\rm As},{\rm As}_2,{\rm As})$, where ${\rm As}_2$…
As an algebraic meaning of the nonhomogenous associative Yang-Baxter equation, weighted infinitesimal bialgebras play an important role in mathematics and mathematical physics. In this paper, we introduce the concept of weighted infinitesimal Hopf modules and show that any module carries a natural structure of weighted infinitesimal unitary Hopf module over a weighted quasitriangular infinitesimal unitary bialgebra. We decorate planar rooted forests in a new way, and prove that the space of rooted forests, together with a coproduct and a family of grafting operations, is the free $Ω$-cocycle i…

We define a "combinatorial Hopf algebra" as a Hopf algebra which is free (or cofree) and equipped with a given isomorphism to the free algebra over the indecomposables (resp. the cofree coalgebra over the primitives). The choice of such an isomorphism implies the existence a finer algebraic structure on the Hopf algebra and on the indecomposables (resp. the primitives). For instance a cofree-cocommutative right-sided combinatorial Hopf algebra is completely determined by its primitive part which is a pre-Lie algebra. The key example is the Connes-Kreimer Hopf algebra. The study of all these co…
We study the Hopf algebra of double posets and two of its Hopf subalgebras, the Hopf algebras of plane posets and of posets "without N". We prove that they are free, cofree, self-dual, and we give an explicit Hopf pairing on these Hopf algebras. We also prove that they are free 2-As algebras; in particular, the Hopf algebra of posets "without N" is the free 2-As algebra on one generator. We deduce a description of the operads of 2-As algebras and of B_infty algebras in terms of plane posets.
The main ideas developed in this habilitation thesis consist in endowing combinatorial objects (words, permutations, trees, Young tableaux, etc.) with operations in order to construct algebraic structures. This process allows, by studying algebraically the structures thus obtained (changes of bases, generating sets, presentations, morphisms, representations), to collect combinatorial information about the underlying objects. The algebraic structures the most encountered here are magmas, posets, associative algebras, dendriform algebras, Hopf bialgebras, operads, and pros. This work explores th…
A plane poset is a finite set with two partial orders, satisfying a certain incompatibility condition. The set PP of isoclasses of plane posets owns two products, and an infinitesimal Hopf algebra structure is defined on the vector space H_PP generated by PP, using the notion of biideals of plane posets. We here define a partial order on PP, making it isomorphic to the set of partitions with the weak Bruhat order. We prove that this order is compatible with both products of PP; moreover, it encodes a non degenerate Hopf pairing on the infinitesimal Hopf algebra H_PP.
We introduce the categories of infinitesimal Hopf modules and bimodules over an infinitesimal bialgebra. We show that they correspond to modules and bimodules over the infinitesimal version of the double. We show that there is a natural, but non-obvious way to construct a pre-Lie algebra from an arbitrary infinitesimal bialgebra and a dendriform algebra from a quasitriangular infinitesimal bialgebra. As consequences, we obtain a pre-Lie structure on the space of paths on an arbitrary quiver, and a striking dendriform structure on the space of endomorphisms of an arbitrary infinitesimal bialgeb…
Hopf-Hecke algebras and Barbasch-Sahi algebras were defined by the first named author (2016) in order to provide a general framework for the study of Dirac cohomology. The aim of this paper is to explore new examples of these definitions and to contribute to their classification. Hopf-Hecke algebras are distinguished by an orthogonality condition and a PBW property. The PBW property for algebras such as the ones considered here has been of great interest in the literature and we extend this discussion by further results on the classification of such deformations and by a class of hitherto unex…
We equip a matrix algebra with a weighted infinitesimal unitary bialgebraic structure, via a construction of a suitable coproduct. Furthermore, an infinitesimal unitary Hopf algebra, under the view of Aguiar, is constructed on a matrix algebra. By exploring the relationship between weighted infinitesimal bialgebras and pre-Lie algebras, we construct a pre-Lie algebraic structure and then a new Lie algebraic structure on a matrix algebra. We also introduce the weighted associative Yang-Baxter equations (AYBEs) and obtain the relationship between solutions of weighted AYBEs and weighted infinite…
Motivated by the classical comatrix coalgebra, we introduce the concept of a Newtonian comatrix coalgebra. We construct an infinitesimal unitary bialgebra on a matrix algebra and a weighted infinitesimal unitary bialgebra on a non-commutative polynomial algebra, via two constructions of suitable coproducts. As a consequence, a Newtonian comatrix coalgebra is established. Furthermore, an infinitesimal unitary Hopf algebra, under the view of Aguiar, is constructed on a matrix algebra. By investigating the relationship between weighted infinitesimal bialgebras and pre-Lie algebras, we erect respe…
In this paper, we define a new coproduct on the space of decorated planar rooted forests to equip it with a weighted infinitesimal unitary bialgebraic structure. We introduce the concept of $Ω$-cocycle infinitesimal bialgebras of weight $λ$ and then prove that the space of decorated planar rooted forests $H_{\mathrm{RT}}(X,Ω)$, together with a set of grafting operations $\{ B^+_ω\mid ω\in Ω\}$, is the free $Ω$-cocycle infinitesimal unitary bialgebra of weight $λ$ on a set $X$, involving a weighted version of a Hochschild 1-cocycle condition. As an application, we equip a free cocycle infinites…
We describe the proalgebraic groups represented by three Hopf algebras on planar binary trees previously introduced by the author and Christian Brouder in relation with the renormalization of quantum electrodynamics. Using two monoidal structures and a set-operad structure on planar binary trees, we show that these groups can be realized on formal series expanded over trees, and that the group laws are generalization of the multiplication and the composition of usual series in one variable. All the constructions are done in a general operad-theoretic setting, and then applied to the duplicial …
WWe describe the Koszul dual of the operad Quad of quadri-algebras, show the koszularity of Quad and give the formal series of Quad and its dual, which proves a conjecture due to Aguiar and Loday. A notion of quadri-bialgebra is also introduced, with applications to the Hopf algebras FQSym and WQSym.
Finite topological spaces are in bijective correspondence with preorders on finite sets. We undertake their study using combinatorial tools that have been developed to investigate general discrete structures. A particular emphasis will be put on recent topological and combinatorial Hopf algebra techniques. We will show that the linear span of finite spaces carries generalized Hopf algebraic structures that are closely connected with familiar constructions and structures in topology (such as the one of cogroups in the category of associative algebras that has appeared e.g. in the study of loop …
We introduce natural binary set-theoretical products on the set of all $m$-Dyck paths, which led us to define a non-symmetric algebraic operad $\Dy^m$, described on the vector space spanned by $m$-Dyck paths. Our construction is closely related to the $m$-Tamari lattice, so the products defining $\Dy^m$ are given by intervals in this lattice. For $m=1$, we recover the notion of dendriform algebra introduced by J.-L. Loday in \cite{Lod}, and there exists a natural operad morphism from the operad ${\mbox {\it Ass}}$ of associative algebras into the operad $\Dy^m$, consequently $\Dy ^m$ is a Hopf…
We describe all finite-dimensional pointed Hopf algebras whose infinitesimal braiding is a fixed Yetter-Drinfeld module decomposed as the sum of two simple objects: a point and the one of transpositions of the symmetric group in three letters. We give a presentation by generators and relations of the corresponding Nichols algebra and show that Andruskiewitsch-Schneider Conjecture holds for this kind of pointed Hopf algebras.
We introduce a simplicial object $(\{ \Dy^m\}_{m\geq 0}, {\mathbb F}_i, {\mathbb S}_j)$ in the category of non-symmetric algebraic operads, satisfying that $\Dy^0$ is the operad of associative algebras and $\Dy^1$ is J.-L. Loday\rq s operad of dendriform algebras. The dimensions of the operad $\Dy^m$ are given by the Fuss-Catalan numbers. Given a family of partially ordered sets ${\bold P}=\{P_n\}_{n\geq 1}$ we show that, under certain conditions, the vector space spanned by the set of $m$-simpleces of ${\bold P}$ is a $\Dy^m$ algebra. This construction, applied to certain combinatorial Hopf a…
We show that any finite-dimensional pointed Hopf algebra over an abelian group $Γ$ such that its infinitesimal braiding is of standard type is generated by group-like and skew-primitive elements. This fact agrees with the long-standing conjecture by Andruskiewitsch and Schneider. We also show that the quantum Serre relations hold in any coradically graded pointed Hopf algebra over $Γ$ of finite dimension and determine how these relations are lifted in the standard case.
We show that all finite dimensional pointed Hopf algebras with the same diagram in the classification scheme of Andruskiewitsch and Schneider are cocycle deformations of each other. This is done by giving first a suitable characterization of such Hopf algebras, which allows for the application of a result of Masuoka about Morita-Takeuchi equivalence and of Schauenburg about Hopf Galois extensions. The "infinitesimal" part of the deforming cocycle and of the deformation determine the deformed multiplication and can be described explicitly in terms of Hochschild cohomology. Applications to, and …
Typed decorated trees are used by Bruned, Hairer and Zambotti to give a description of a renormalisation processon stochastic PDEs. We here study the algebraic structures on these objects: multiple prelie algebrasand related operads (generalizing a result by Chapoton and Livernet), noncommutative and cocommutative Hopf algebras (generalizing Grossman and Larson's construction),commutative and noncocommutative Hopf algebras (generalizing Connes and Kreimer's construction),bialgebras in cointeraction (generalizing Calaque, Ebrahimi-Fard and Manchon's result). We also define families of morphisms…
Hochschild two-cocycles play an important role in the deformation à la Gerstenhaber of associative algebras. The aim of this paper is to introduce the category of Hoch-algebras whose objects are associative algebras equipped with an extra magmatic operation \succ verifying the Hochschild two-cocycle relation: (x \succ y)*z+ (x*y)\succ z= x\succ (y*z)+ x*(y\succ z). The free Hoch-algebra over a K-vector space is given in terms of planar rooted trees and the triples of operads (As,Hoch, Mag^\infty) endowed with the infinitesimal relations are shown to be good. We then obtain an equivalence of ca…
We develop the notion of the composition of two coalgebras, which arises naturally in higher category theory and the theory of species. We prove that the composition of two cofree coalgebras is cofree and give conditions which imply that the composition is a one-sided Hopf algebra. These conditions hold when one coalgebra is a graded Hopf operad D and the other is a connected graded coalgebra with coalgebra map to D. We conclude by discussing these structures for compositions with bases the vertices of multiplihedra, composihedra, and hypercubes.
Classifying Hopf algebras of a given dimension is a hard and open question. Using the generalized lifting method, we determine all finite-dimensional Hopf algebras over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero whose coradical generates a Hopf algebra $H$ of dimension $16$ without the Chevalley property and the corresponding infinitesimal braidings are simple objects in $\HYD$. In particular, we figure out $8$ classes of new Hopf algebras of dimension $128$ without the Chevalley property.
We discuss a general construction of a deformation of a smash product algebra coming from an action of a particular Hopf algebra. This Hopf algebra is generated by skew-primitive and group-like elements, and depends on a complex parameter. The smash product algebra is defined on the quantum symmetric algebra of a finite-dimensional vector space and a group. In particular, an application of this result has enabled us to find a deformation of such a smash product algebra which is, to the best of our knowledge, the first known example of a deformation in which the new relations in the deformed al…
The Deligne-Getzler-Hinich--$\infty$-groupoid or Maurer-Cartan simplicial set of an $L_\infty$-algebra plays an important role in deformation theory and many other areas of mathematics. Unfortunately, this construction only works over a field of characteristic $0$. The goal of this paper is to show that the notions of Maurer-Cartan equation and Maurer-Cartan simplicial set can be defined for a much larger number of operads than just the $L_\infty$-operad. More precisely, we show that the Koszul dual of every unital Hopf cooperad (a cooperad in the category of unital associative algebras) with …
If A is a cocommutative algebra with coproduct, then so is the smash product algebra of a symmetric algebra Sym(V) with A, where V is an A-module. Such smash product algebras, with A a group ring or a Lie algebra, have families of deformations that have been studied widely in the literature; examples include symplectic reflection algebras and infinitesimal Hecke algebras. We introduce a family of deformations of these smash product algebras for general A, and characterize the PBW property. We then characterize the Jacobi identity for "grouplike" algebras (that include group rings and the nilCo…
We show under what conditions the complex computing general Ext-groups carries the structure of a cyclic operad such that Ext becomes a Batalin-Vilkovisky algebra. This is achieved by transferring cyclic cohomology theories for the dual of a (left) Hopf algebroid to the complex in question, which asks for the notion of contramodules introduced along with comodules by Eilenberg-Moore half a century ago. Another crucial ingredient is an explicit formula for the inverse of the Hopf-Galois map on the dual, by which we illustrate recent categorical results and answer a long-standing open question. …
We study formal deformations of a crossed product $S(V)#_f G$, of a polynomial algebra with a group, induced from a universal deformation formula introduced by Witherspoon. These deformations arise from braided actions of Hopf algebras generated by automorphisms and skew derivations. We show that they are nontrivial in the characteristic free context, even if $G$ is infinite, by showing that their infinitesimals are not coboundaries. For this we construct a new complex which computes the Hochschild cohomology of $S(V)#_f G$.
Poincare-Birkhoff-Witt (PBW) Theorems have attracted significant attention since the work of Drinfeld (1986), Lusztig (1989), and Etingof-Ginzburg (2002) on deformations of skew group algebras $H \ltimes {\rm Sym}(V)$, as well as for other cocommutative Hopf algebras $H$. In this paper we show that such PBW theorems do not require the full Hopf algebra structure, by working in the more general setting of a "cocommutative algebra", which involves a coproduct but not a counit or antipode. Special cases include infinitesimal Hecke algebras, as well as symplectic reflection algebras, rational Cher…
