Let (X,T) be a topologically transitive dynamical system. We show that if there is a subsystem (Y,T) of (X,T) such that (X\times Y, T\times T) is transitive, then (X,T) is strongly chaotic in the sense of Li and Yorke. We then show that many of the known sufficient conditions in the literature, as well as a few new results, are corollaries of this statement. In fact, the kind of chaotic behavior we deduce in these results is a much stronger variant of Li-Yorke chaos which we call uniform chaos. For minimal systems we show, among other results, that uniform chaos is preserved by extensions and that a minimal system which is not uniformly chaotic is PI.
We show that a zero-dimensional chain transitive dynamical system can be embedded into a densely uniformly chaotic system, with dense uniformly chaotic set $K$. We concretely construct a Mycielski set $K$ that is also invariant. Furthermore, every point in $K$ is positively and negatively transitive. The uniform proximality and recurrence of $K$ are also bidirectional.
We show that every dendrite satisfying the condition that no subtree of it contains all free arcs admits a transitive, even exactly Devaney chaotic map with arbitrarily small entropy. This gives a partial answer to a question of Baldwin from 2001.
For each irrational $α\in[0,1)$ we construct a continuous function $f\: [0,1)\to \R$ such that the corresponding cylindrical transformation $[0,1)\times\R \ni (x,t) \mapsto (x+α, t+ f(x)) \in [0,1)\times\R$ is transitive and the Hausdorff dimension of the set of points whose orbits are discrete is 2. Such cylindrical transformations are shown to display a certain chaotic behaviour of Devaney-like type.
A topological dynamical system $(X,f)$ is said to be multi-transitive if for every $n\in\mathbb{N}$ the system $(X^{n}, f\times f^{2}\times \dotsb\times f^{n})$ is transitive. We introduce the concept of multi-transitivity with respect to a vector and show that multi-transitivity can be characterized by the hitting time sets of open sets, answering a question proposed by Kwietniak and Oprocha [On weak mixing, minimality and weak disjointness of all iterates, Erg. Th. Dynam. Syst., 32 (2012), 1661--1672]. We also show that multi-transitive systems are Li-Yorke chaotic.
A recent problem in dynamics is to determinate whether an attractor $Λ$ of a $C^r$ flow $X$ is $C^r$ robust transitive or not. By {\em attractor} we mean a transitive set to which all positive orbits close to it converge. An attractor is $C^r$ robust transitive (or {\em $C^r$ robust} for short) if it exhibits a neighborhood $U$ such that the set $\cap_{t>0}Y_t(U)$ is transitive for every flow $Y$ $C^r$ close to $X$. We give sufficient conditions for robustness of attractors based on the following definitions. An attractor is {\em singular-hyperbolic} if it has singularities (all hyperbolic) an…
We prove that if a topological dynamical system is mean sensitive and contains a mean proximal pair consisting of a transitive point and a periodic point, then it is mean Li-Yorke chaotic (DC2 chaotic). On the other hand we show that a system is mean proximal if and only if it is uniquely ergodic and the unique measure is supported on one point.
We study topological entropy of exactly Devaney chaotic maps on totally regular continua, i.e. on (topologically) rectifiable curves. After introducing the so-called P-Lipschitz maps (where P is a finite invariant set) we give an upper bound for their topological entropy. We prove that if a non-degenerate totally regular continuum X contains a free arc which does not disconnect X or if X contains arbitrarily large generalized stars then X admits an exactly Devaney chaotic map with arbitrarily small entropy. A possible application for further study of the best lower bounds of topological entrop…
A continuous action of a group G on a compact metric space has sensitive dependence on initial conditions if there is a number e>0 such that for any open set U we can find g in G such that g.U has diameter greater than e. We prove that if a G action preserves a probability measure of full support, then the system is either minimal and equicontinuous, or has sensitive dependence on initial conditions. This generalizes the invertible case of a theorem of Glasner and Weiss. We prove that when a finitely generated, solvable group, acts and certain cyclic subactions have dense sets of minimal point…

In this paper we analyze chaotic dynamics for two dimensional nonautonomous maps through the use of a nonautonomous version of the Conley-Moser conditions given previously. With this approach we are able to give a precise definition of what is meant by a chaotic invariant set for nonautonomous maps. We extend the nonautonomous Conley-Moser conditions by deriving a new sufficient condition for the nonautonomous chaotic invariant set to be hyperbolic. We consider the specific example of a nonautonomous Hénon map and give sufficient conditions, in terms of the parameters defining the map, for the…
We address the problem of giving necessary and sufficient conditions in order to have robustly transitive endomorphisms admitting persistent critical sets. We exhibit different type of open examples of robustly transitive maps in any isotopic class of endomorphisms acting on the two dimensional torus admitting persistent critical points. We also provide some necessary condition for robust transitivity in this setting.
We show that the existence of a dense set of periodic points for a topologically transitive non-minimal continuous group action on a Hausdorff uniform space with an infinite acting group does not necessarily imply a sensitive dependence to the initial conditions in such a system. This leads to define the chaos in the sense of Devaney for a continuous group action on a Hausdorff uniform spaces with an infinite acting group in the original way, i.e. a non-minimal topologically transitive and sensitive system with a dense set of periodic points is a chaotic system in the sense of Devaney.
In this paper, we discuss the relationship between Li-Yorke chaos and distributional chaos in a sequence. We point out the set of all distributional $δ$-scramble pairs in the sequence $Q$ is a $G_δ$ set, and prove that Li-Yorke $δ$-chaos is equivalent to distributional $δ$-chaos in a sequence, a uniformly chaotic set is a distributional scramble set in some sequence and a class of transitive system implies distributional chaos in a sequence.
Given a $C^2$- Anosov diffemorphism $f: M \rightarrow M,$ we prove that the jacobian condition $Jf^n(p) = 1,$ for every point $p$ such that $f^n(p) = p,$ implies transitivity. As application in the celebrated theory of Sinai-Ruelle-Bowen, this result allows us to state a classical theorem of Livsic-Sinai without directly assuming transitivity as a general hypothesis. A special consequence of our result is that every $C^2$-Anosov diffeomorphism, for which every point is regular, is indeed transitive.
Let $T$ be a continuous self-map of a compact metric space $X$. The transformation $T$ induces natural a continuous self-map $T_K$ on the hyperspace $K(X)$ of all non-empty closed subsets of $X$. In this paper, we show that the system $(K(X),T_K)$ on the hyperspace is Devaney chaotic if and only if $(K(X),T_K)$ is an HY-system if and only if $(X,T)$ is an HY-system, where a system $(Y,S)$ is called an HY-system if it is totally transitive and has dense small periodic sets.
In this paper, we introduce the notion of distributional chaos and the measure of chaos for random dynamical systems generated by two interval maps. We give some sufficient conditions for a zero measure of chaos and examples of chaotic systems. We demonstrate that the chaoticity of the functions that generate a system does not, in general, affect the chaoticity of the system, i.e., a chaotic system can arise from two nonchaotic functions and vice versa. Finally, we show that distributional chaos for random dynamical system is, in some sense, unstable.
We establish a sharp sufficient condition for groups acting on trees to be highly transitive when the action on the tree is minimal of general type. This gives new examples of highly transitive groups, including icc non-solvable Baumslag-Solitar groups, thus answering a question of Hull and Osin.
We consider the one degree-of-freedom Hamiltonian system defined by the Morse potential energy function (the "Morse oscillator"). We use the geometry of the level sets to construct explicit expressions for the trajectories as a function of time, their period for the bounded trajectories, and action-angle variables. We use these trajectories to prove sufficient conditions for chaotic dynamics, in the sense of Smale horseshoes, for the time-periodically perturbed Morse oscillator using a Melnikov type approach.
