We prove that the Kupershmidt deformation of a bi-Hamiltonian system is itself bi-Hamiltonian. Moreover, Magri hierarchies of the initial system give rise to Magri hierarchies of Kupershmidt deformations as well. Since Kupershmidt deformations are not written in evolution form, we start with an outline a geometric framework to study Hamiltonian properties of general non-evolution differential equations, developed in [2] (see also arXiv:0812.4895).
We study a new example of equation obtained as a result of a recent generalized symmetry classification of differential-difference equations defined on five points of one-dimensional lattice. We have established that in the continuous limit this new equation goes into the well-known Kaup-Kupershmidt equation. We have also proved its integrability by constructing an $L-A$ pair and conservation laws. Moreover, we present a possibly new scheme for deriving conservation laws from $L-A$ pairs.
Based on the Kupershmidt deformation for any integrable bi-Hamiltonian systems presented in [4], we propose the generalized Kupershmidt deformation to construct new systems from integrable bi-Hamiltonian systems, which provides a nonholonomic perturbation of the bi-Hamiltonian systems. The generalized Kupershmidt deformation is conjectured to preserve integrability. The conjecture is verified in a few representative cases: KdV equation, Boussinesq equation, Jaulent-Miodek equation and Camassa-Holm equation. For these specific cases, we present a general procedure to convert the generalized Kup…
KdV6 equation can be described as the Kupershmidt deformation of the KdV equation (see 2008, Phys. Lett. A 372: 263). In this paper, starting from the bi-Hamiltonian structure of the discrete integrable system, we propose a generalized Kupershmidt deformation to construct new discrete integrable systems. Toda hierarchy, Kac-van Moerbeke hierarchy and Ablowitz-Ladik hierarchy are considered. The Lax representations for these new deformed systems are presented. The generalized Kupershmidt deformation for the discrete integrable systems provides a new way to construct new discrete integrable syst…
We obtain compatible Hamiltonian and symplectic structure for a new two-component fifth-order integrable system recently found by Mikhailov, Novikov and Wang (arXiv:0712.1972), and show that this system possesses a hereditary recursion operator and infinitely many commuting symmetries and conservation laws, as well as infinitely many compatible Hamiltonian and symplectic structures, and is therefore completely integrable. The system in question admits a reduction to the Kaup--Kupershmidt equation.
When both Hamiltonian operators of a bi-Hamiltonian system are pure differential operators, we show that the generalized Kupershmidt deformation (GKD) developed from the Kupershmidt deformation in \cite{kd} offers an useful way to construct new integrable system starting from the bi-Hamiltonian system. We construct some new integrable systems by means of the generalized Kupershmidt deformation in the cases of Harry Dym hierarchy, classical Boussinesq hierarchy and coupled KdV hierarchy. We show that the GKD of Harry Dym equation, GKD of classical Boussinesq equation and GKD of coupled KdV equa…
A one-parameter generalization of the hierarchy of negative flows is introduced for integrable hierarchies of evolution equations, which yields a wider (new) class of non-evolutionary integrable nonlinear wave equations. As main results, several integrability properties of these generalized negative flow equation are established, including their symmetry structure, conservation laws, and bi-Hamiltonian formulation. (The results also apply to the hierarchy of ordinary negative flows). The first generalized negative flow equation is worked out explicitly for each of the following integrable equa…
The non-holonomic deformations of non-local integrable systems belonging to the Nonlinear Schrodinger family are studied using the Bi-Hamiltonian formalism as well as the Lax pair method. The non-local equations are first obtained by symmetry reductions of the variables in the corresponding local systems. The bi-Hamiltonian structures of these equations are explicitly derived. The bi-Hamiltonian structures are used to obtain the non-holonomic deformation following the Kupershmidt ansatz. Further, the same deformation is studied using the Lax pair approach and several properties of the deformat…
We put the Adler-Gelfand-Dickey approach to classical W-algebras in the framework of Poisson vertex algebras. We show how to recover the bi-Poisson structure of the KP hierarchy, together with its generalizations and reduction to the N-th KdV hierarchy, using the formal distribution calculus and the lambda-bracket formalism. We apply the Lenard-Magri scheme to prove integrability of the corresponding hierarchies. We also give a simple proof of a theorem of Kupershmidt and Wilson in this framework. Based on this approach, we generalize all these results to the matrix case. In particular, we fin…
We present infinitely many nonlocal conservation laws, a pair of compatible local Hamiltonian structures and a recursion operator for the equations describing surfaces in three-dimensional space that admit nontrivial deformations which preserve both principal directions and principal curvatures (or, equivalently, the shape operator).
Zero-curvature representations (ZCRs) are one of the main tools in the theory of integrable PDEs. In particular, Lax pairs for (1+1)-dimensional PDEs can be interpreted as ZCRs. In [arXiv:1303.3575], for any (1+1)-dimensional scalar evolution equation $E$, we defined a family of Lie algebras $F(E)$ which are responsible for all ZCRs of $E$ in the following sense. Representations of the algebras $F(E)$ classify all ZCRs of the equation $E$ up to local gauge transformations. In [arXiv:1804.04652] we showed that, using these algebras, one obtains necessary conditions for existence of a Bäcklund t…

We develop a theory of Lagrangian reduction on loop groups for completely integrable systems after having exchanged the role of the space and time variables in the multi-time interpretation of integrable hierarchies. We then insert the Sobolev norm $H^1$ in the Lagrangian and derive a deformation of the corresponding hierarchies. The integrability of the deformed equations is altered and a notion of weak integrability is introduced. We implement this scheme in the AKNS and SO(3) hierarchies and obtain known and new equations. Among them we found two important equations, the Camassa-Holm equati…
We review some recents developments of the algebraic structures and spectral properties of non-Hermitian deformations of Calogero models. The behavior of such extensions is illustrated by the $A_2$ trigonometric and the $D_3$ angular Calogero models. Features like intertwining operators and conserved charges are discussed in terms of Dunkl operators. Hidden symmetries coming from the so-called algebraic integrability for integral values of the coupling are addressed together with a physical regularization of their action on the states by virtue of a $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetry deformation.
We show that the CFT with symmetry group $G_{k_1}\times G_{k_2}\times \cdots \times G_{k_n}$ consisting of WZW models based on the same group $G$, but at arbitrary integer levels, admits an integrable deformation depending on $2(n-1)$ continuous parameters. We derive the all-loop effective action of the deformed theory and prove integrability. We also calculate the exact in the deformation parameters RG flow equations which can be put in a particularly simple compact form. This allows a full determination and classification of the fixed points of the RG flow, in particular those that are IR st…
We consider deformations of the $SU(3)$ Affine Toda theory (AT) and investigate the integrability properties of the deformed theories. We find that for some special deformations all conserved quantities change to being conserved only asymptotically, {\it i.e.} in the process of the scattering of two solitons these charges do vary in time, but they return, after the scattering, to the values they had prior to the scattering. This phenomenon, which we have called quasi-integrability, is related to special properties of the two-soliton solutions under space-time parity transformations. Some prope…
For the first time, both non-holonomic and quasi-integrable deformations are obtained for the AB system of coupled equations. The AB system models geophysical and atmospheric fluid motion along with ultra-short pulse propagation in nonlinear optics and serves as a generalization of the well-known sine-Gordon equation. The non-holonomic deformation retains integrability subjected to higher-order differential constraints whereas the quasi-AB system, which is partially deviated from integrability, is characterized by an infinite subset of quantities (charges) that are conserved only asymptoticall…
The concept of quasi-integrability has been examined in the context of deformations of the defocusing non-linear Schrödinger model (NLS). Our results show that the quasi-integrability concept, recently discussed in the context of deformations of the sine-Gordon, Bullough-Dodd and focusing NLS models, holds for the modified defocusing NLS model with dark soliton solutions and it exhibits the new feature of an infinite sequence of alternating conserved and asymptotically conserved charges. For the special case of two dark soliton solutions, where the field components are eigenstates of a space-r…
In this paper we introduce a new family of the KP tau-functions. This family can be described by a deformation of the generalized Kontsevich matrix model. We prove that the simplest representative of this family describes a generating function of the cubic Hodge integrals satisfying the Calabi-Yau condition, and claim that the whole family describes its generalization for the higher spin cases. To investigate this family we construct a new description of the Sato Grassmannian in terms of a canonical pair of the Kac-Schwarz operators.
The Yang-Baxter $σ$-model is a systematic way to generate integrable deformations of AdS$_5\times$S$^5$. We recast the deformations as seen by open strings, where the metric is undeformed AdS$_5\times$S$^5$ with constant string coupling, and all information about the deformation is encoded in the noncommutative (NC) parameter $Θ$. We identify the deformations of AdS$_5$ as twists of the conformal algebra, thus explaining the noncommutativity. We show that the unimodularity conditon on $r$-matrices for supergravity solutions translates into $Θ$ being divergence-free. Integrability of the $σ$-mo…

This article is the first one in a suite of three articles exploring connections between dynamical systems of Stäckel-type and of Painlevé- type. In this article we present a deformation of autonomous Stäckel-type systems to non-autonomous Frobenius integrable systems. First, we consider quasi-Stäckel systems with quadratic in momenta Hamiltonians containing separable potentials with time dependent coefficients and then we present a procedure of deforming these equations to non-autonomous Frobenius integrable systems. Then, we present a procedure of deforming quasi-Stäckel systems with so call…
