Transition metal boride Ru$_7$B$_3$ was found to be a noncentrosymmetric superconductor with $T_{C}$ equal to 3.3 K. Superconducting and normal state properties of Ru$_7$B$_3$ were determined by a self-consistent analysis through resistivity($ρ_{xx}$ and $ρ_{xy}$), specific heat, lower critical field measurement and electronic band structure calculation. It is found that Ru$_7$B$_3$ belongs to an s-wave dominated single band superconductor with energy gap 0.5 meV and could be categorized into type II superconductor with weak electron-phonon coupling. Unusual 'kink' feature is clearly observed in field-broadening resistivity curves, suggesting the possible mixture of spin triplet induced by the lattice without inversion symmetry.
We propose an experimental scheme to detect unambiguously parity-mxing of Cooper pairs in noncentrosymmetric superconductors, which utilizes crossed Andreev reflection processes between two oppositely spin-polarized normal metal leads and a noncentrosymmetric superconductor. It is demonstrated that a non-local conductance exhibits a clear signature of parity breaking of Cooper pairs, and thus, can be a direct probe for the parity-mixing.
We demonstrate that in two-dimensional noncentrosymmetric s-wave superconductors under applied magnetic fields for a particular electron density, topological order emerges, and there exists a zero energy Majorana fermion mode in a vortex core, which obeys non-Abelian statistics, in analogy with p_x+ip_y superconductors, the Moore-Read Pfaffian quantum Hall state, and the gapped non-Abelian spin liquid phase of the Kitaev model.
We report crystallographic, specific heat, transport, and magnetic properties of the recently discovered noncentrosymmetric 5d-electron superconductors CaIrSi3 (Tc = 3.6 K) and CaPtSi3 (Tc = 2.3 K). The specific heat suggests that these superconductors are fully gapped. The upper critical fields are less than 1 T, consistent with limitation by conventional orbital depairing. High, non-Pauli-limited μ0 Hc2 values, often taken as a key signature of novel noncentrosymmetric physics, are not observed in these materials because the high carrier masses required to suppress orbital depairing and reve…
The discovery of the multiple $H$-$T$ phase diagram of CeRh$_2$As$_2$ offers a new route to designing topological superconductors. Although weak-coupling theories explain the experimental phase diagram qualitatively, a quantitative discrepancy between them has discouraged conclusive interpretation. In this Letter, we thoroughly study the effect of Coulomb interaction and the phase diagrams of locally noncentrosymmetric superconductors. We reveal even-odd parity transition and the enhancement of the parity transition field in strongly correlated superconductors, and an issue of CeRh$_2$As$_2$ i…
We report superconductivity in the ternary half-Heusler compound LuPtBi, with Tc = 1.0 K and Hc2 = 1.6 T. The crystal structure of LuPtBi lacks inversion symmetry, hence the material is a noncentrosymmetric superconductor. Magnetotransport data show semimetallic behavior in the normal state, which is evidence for the importance of spin-orbit interaction. Theoretical calculations indicate that the strong spin-orbit interaction in LuPtBi should cause strong band inversion, making this material a promising candidate for 3D topological superconductivity.
The low-energy magnetic excitations of the noncentrosymmetric heavy-fermion superconductor CePt3Si have been measured with inelastic neutron scattering on a single crystal. Kondo-type spin fluctuations with an anisotropic wave vector dependence are observed in the paramagnetic state. These fluctuations do not survive in the antiferromagnetically ordered state below TN=2.2 K but are replaced by damped spin waves, whose dispersion is much stronger along the c-axis than in other directions. No change is observed in the excitation spectrum or the magnetic order as the system enters the superconduc…
Motivated by the recent discovery of noncentrosymmetric superconductors, such as $CePt_{3}Si$, $CeRhSi_{3}$ and $CeIrSi_{3}$, we investigate theoretically the impurity resonance states with coexisting $s$- and p-wave pairing symmetries. Due to the nodal structure of the gap function, we find single nonmagnetic impurity-induced resonances appearing in the local density of state (LDOS). In particular, we analyze the evolution of the local density of states for coexisting isotropic s-wave and p-wave superconducting states and compare with that of anisotropic s-wave and p-wave symmetries of the su…
The failure of spatial inversion symmetry in noncentrosymmetric materials introduces two different types of spin-independent and spin-dependent electron hopping. The spin-dependent term can be translated into a quasi-spin-orbit coupling and may affect the electronic structure. In the locally noncentrosymmetric crystals, the presence of a sublattice degree of freedom generates a distinction between the inter- and intra-sublattice hopping integrals. The spin-dependent part of the former (latter), which is even (odd) under parity, is called symmetric (antisymmetric) quasi-spin-orbit coupling. Her…
Recently the influence of antisymmetric spin-orbit coupling has been studied in novel topological superconductors such as half-Heuslers and artificial hetero-structures. We investigate the effect of Rashba and/or Dresselhaus spin-orbit couplings on the band structure and topological properties of a two-dimensional noncentrosymetric superconductor. For this goal, the topological helical edge modes are analyzed for different spin-orbit couplings as well as for several superconducting pairing symmetries. To explore the transport properties, we examine the response of the spin-polarized edge state…
We report the discovery of Zr$_3$Ir as a new type of unconventional noncentrosymmetric superconductor (with $T_c = 2.3$ K), here investigated mostly via muon-spin rotation/relaxation ($μ$SR) techniques. Its superconductivity was characterized using magnetic susceptibility, electrical resistivity, and heat capacity measurements. The low-temperature superfluid density, determined via transverse-field $μ$SR and electronic specific heat, suggests a fully-gapped superconducting state. The spontaneous magnetic fields, revealed by zero-field $μ$SR below $T_c$, indicate the breaking of time-reversal s…
We report superconducting properties of noncentrosymmetric superconductor LaPtGe which crystallizes in noncentrosymmetric $ α$-ThSi$ _{2} $ structure. The magnetization, resistivity and specific heat measurements confirm that LaPtGe is a type-II bulk superconductor with a transition temperature T$ _{c} $ = 3.05 $ \pm $ 0.05 K. Muon-spin relaxation/rotation measurements confirms that time reversal preserved in the superconducting ground state.
In noncentrosymmetric crystals, nonuniform superconducting states are possible even in the absence of any external magnetic field. The origin of these states can be traced to the Lifshitz invariants in the free energy, which are linear in spatial gradients. We show how various types of the Lifshitz invariants in noncentrosymmetric superconductors can be derived from microscopic theory.
Strong coupling effects on the upper critical fields $H_{c2}$ along the c-axis in the noncentrosymmetric heavy fermion superconductors near quantum criticality CeRhSi$_3$ and CeIrSi$_3$ are examined. For sufficiently large spin-orbit interactions due to the lack of inversion symmetry, $H_{c2}$ is mainly determined by the orbital depairing effects. From microscopic calculations taking into account the strong spin fluctuations, we show that $H_{c2}$ is extremely enhanced as the system approaches the quantum critical point, resulting in $H_{c2}\sim 30$T even in the case with the low transition te…
We study theoretically a model for twin boundaries in superconductors with Rashba spin-orbit coupling, which can be relevant to both three-dimensional noncentrosymmetric tetragonal crystals and two-dimensional gated superconductors such as the LaAlO$_3$/SrTiO$_3$ interface. In both cases, the broken inversion symmetry allows for a coexistence of singlet and triplet pairing. Within the framework of a Ginzburg-Landau theory, we identify two $\mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetries that are broken via two consecutive second order phase transitions as the temperature is lowered. We show that a time-reversal symm…
We have studied the effect of Ge substitution and pressure on the heavy-fermion superconductor CePt3Si. Ge substitution on the Si site acts as negative chemical pressure leading to an increase in the unit-cell volume but also introduces chemical disorder. We carried out electrical resistivity and ac heat-capacity experiments under hydrostatic pressure on CePt3Si1-xGex (x=0, 0.06). Our experiments show that the suppression of superconductivity in CePt3Si1-xGex is mainly caused by the scattering potential, rather than volume expansion, introduced by the Ge dopants. The antiferromagnetic order is…
We report 29Si-NMR study on a single crystal of the heavy-fermion superconductor CeIrSi3 without an inversion symmetry along the c-axis. The 29Si-Knight shift measurements under pressure have revealed that the spin susceptibility for the ab-plane decreases slightly below Tc, whereas along the c-axis it does not change at all. The result can be accounted for by the spin susceptibility in the superconducting state being dominated by the strong antisymmetric (Rashba-type) spin-orbit interaction that originates from the absence of an inversion center along the c-axis and it being much larger than …
We performed $^{185/187}$Re nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) measurements under pressure to investigate the superconducting properties of noncentrosymmetric superconductor Cd$_{2}$Re$_{2}$O$_{7}$ under various crystal structures. The pressure dependence of superconducting transition temperature $T_{\rm c}$ determined through ac susceptibility measurements is consistent with the results of previous resistivity measurements [T. C. Kobayashi $et al$., J. Phys. Soc. Jpn. 80, 023715 (2011).]. Below 2.2 GPa, in the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate $1/T_{1}$, a clear coherence peak was observed…
By employing a series of experimental techniques, we provide clear evidence that CaPtAs represents a rare example of a noncentrosymmetric superconductor which simultaneously exhibits nodes in the superconducting gap and broken time-reversal symmetry (TRS) in its superconducting state (below $T_c$ $\approx$ 1.5 K). Unlike in fully-gapped superconductors, the magnetic penetration depth $λ(T)$ does not saturate at low temperatures, but instead it shows a $T^2$-dependence, characteristic of gap nodes. Both the superfluid density and the electronic specific heat are best described by a two-gap mode…
Strength of Rashba type antisymmetric spin orbit coupling has the crucial effect on superconducting and normal state properties in noncentrosymmetric (NCS) superconductors. This can be seen on various anisotropic properties of the system. For a system with lowered crystalline symmetry as in noncentrosymmetric crystals, the superconducting pairing state can have correlation to the normal state properties. In our earlier work we have shown that alfa-BiPd which has a monoclinic (P_21) structure with the absence of the centre of inversion exhibits bulk superconductivity at 3.8 K. In order to under…
We calculate the spin susceptibility of a superconductor without inversion symmetry, both in the clean and disordered cases. The susceptibility has a large residual value at zero temperature, which is further enhanced in the presence of scalar impurities.
Low-temperature thermal conductivity measurements were performed on single crystal of PbTaSe$_2$, a noncentrosymmetric superconductor with topological bulk nodal lines in the electronic band structure. It is found that the residual linear term $κ_0/T$ is negligible in zero magnetic field. Furthermore, the field dependence of $κ_0/T$ exhibits a clear "$S$"-shape curve. These results suggest that PbTaSe$_2$ has multiple nodeless superconducting gaps. Therefore, the spin-triplet state with gap nodes does not play an important role in this noncentrosymmetric superconductor with strong spin-orbital…
The noncentrosymmetric superconductor TaOs has been characterized using x-ray diffraction, resistivity, magnetization, and specific heat measurements. Magnetization and specific heat measurements show a bulk superconducting transition at 2.07 K. These measurements suggest that TaOs is a weakly coupled type-II superconductor. The electronic specific heat in the superconducting state can be explained by the single-gap BCS model, suggesting s-wave superconductivity in TaOs.
The temperature evolution of the upper critical field $H_{c2}(T)$ in the noncentrosymmetric superconductor PbTaSe$_2$ was determined via resistivity measurements down to 0.5 K. A pronounced positive curvature in the $H_{c2}$-$T$ phase diagram was observed in the whole temperature range below $T_c$. The Seebeck coefficient $S(T)$ in the temperature range 5K$\leq$$T$$\leq$350K was found to be negative in sign, modest in magnitude and non-linear in temperature. In addition, the superconducting transition temperature $T_c$ under hydrostatic pressure shows a marked non-monotonic variation, decreasi…
We numerically study the spatially-resolved NMR around a single vortex in a noncentrosymmetric superconductor such as CePt3Si. The nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T1 under the influence of the vortex core states is calculated for an s+p-wave Cooper pairing state. The result is compared with that for an s-wave pairing state.
We report ac susceptibility measurements of polycrystalline CePt_3Si down to 60 mK and in applied fields up to 9 T. In zero field, a full Meissner state emerges at temperatures T/Tc < 0.3, where Tc=0.65 K is the onset transition temperature. Though transport measurements show a relatively high upper critical field Bc2 ~ 4-5 T, the low temperature susceptibility, χ', is quite fragile to applied field, with χ' diminishing rapidly in fields of a few kG. Interestingly, the field dependence of χ' is well described by the power law, 4πχ'=(B/B_c)^{1/2}, where Bc is the field at which the onset of res…
We discuss the Josephson current between two noncentrosymmetric superconductors. The coexistence of superconducting order parameters between spin-singlet $Δ_{\text{S}}$ and helical p-wave spin-triplet $Δ_{\text{T}}$ enriches a variety of low-temperature behavior of Josephson current depending on their relative amplitudes. We will show that characteristic behaviors of the Josephson current for $Δ_{\text{S}} > Δ_{\text{T}}$ are clearly different from those for $Δ_{\text{S}} < Δ_{\text{T}}$. The topologically protected zero-energy surface bound states are responsible for the clear difference. We …
We show how the two-band nature of superconductivity in noncentrosymmetric compounds leads to a variety of novel nonuniform superconducting states induced by a magnetic field. At low fields, a two-band helical state is realized, with a distinctly non-BCS quasiparticle spectrum. At high fields, the superconducting state becomes unstable towards the formation of a lattice of topological phase solitons.
Electronic structure of a novel superconducting noncentrosymmetric compound Mg10Ir19B16 was calculated using the Korringa-Kohn-Rostoker method. Electronic part of the electron-phonon coupling constant, McMillan-Hopfield parameters, were calculated using the rigid-muffin-tin approximation (RMTA). The magnitude of the electron-phonon coupling constant, analysing atomic contributions, is discussed. Our results show, that superconductivity in Mg10Ir19B16 is presumably mediated by electron-phonon interaction.
For a noncentrosymmetric superconductor such as CePt3Si, we consider a Cooper pairing model with a two-component order parameter composed of spin-singlet and spin-triplet pairing components. We demonstrate that such a model on a qualitative level accounts for experimentally observed features of the temperature dependence of the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T1, namely a peak just below Tc and a line-node gap behavior at low temperatures.
We examine intrinsic interfaces separating crystalline twin domains of opposite spin-orbit coupling in a noncentrosymmetric superconductor such as CePt3Si. At these interfaces, low-energy Andreev bound states occur as a consequence of parity-mixed Cooper pairing, and a superconducting phase which violates time reversal symmetry can be realized. This provides an environment allowing flux lines with fractional flux quanta to be formed at the interface. Their presence could have strong implications on the flux creep behavior in such superconductors.
We consider bound states at the vortex core of a non-centrosymmetric superconductor. We show that, despite the mixing of singlet and triplet order parameters, zero energy states survive within certain parameter space as in vortices of some chiral p-wave states.
We show that the two-band nature of noncentrosymmetric superconductors leads naturally to an anomalous Josephson current appearing at zero phase difference in a clean noncentrosymmetric superconductor/ferromagnet/noncentrosymmetric superconductor junction. The two-band nature provides two sets of Andreev bound states which carry two supercurrents with different amplitudes. When the magnetization direction of the ferromagnet is suitably chosen, two supercurrents experience opposite phase shifts from the conventional sinusoidal current-phase relation. Then the total Josephson current results in …
We investigate how the macroscopic spatial structure of broken inversion symmetry manifests in noncentrosymmetric superconductors, by the microscopic broken inversion symmetry of the crystal structure. Based on the time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau theory including the Pauli paramagnetic effect and the Rashba interaction, we demonstrate that the centrosymmetric structures of the internal field and the screening current are broken macroscopically. The flow structure of paramagnetic supercurrent spontaneously induce the flux flow without applying external currents.
We numerically study the effect of non-magnetic impurities on the vortex bound states in noncentrosymmetric systems. The local density of states (LDOS) around a vortex is calculated by means of the quasiclassical Green's function method. We find that the zero energy peak of the LDOS splits off with increasing the impurity scattering rate.
The superconducting parameters and upper critical field of the noncentrosymmetric superconductor BiPd have proven contentious. This material is of particular interest because it is a singular example of a $4f$-electron-free noncentrosymmetric superconductor of which crystals may be grown and cleaved, enabling surface-sensitive spectroscopies. Here, using bulk probes augmented by tunnelling data on defects, we establish that the lower of the previously reported upper critical fields corresponds to the bulk transition. The material behaves as a nearly-weak-coupled BCS s-wave superconductor, and …
SrAuSi$_3$ is a noncentrosymmetric superconductor (NCS) with $T_c$ = 1.54 K, which to date has been studied only via macroscopic techniques. By combining nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and muon-spin rotation ($μ$SR) measurements we investigate both the normal and the superconducting phase of SrAuSi$_3$ at a local level. In the normal phase, our data indicate a standard metallic behavior with weak electron correlations and a Korringa constant $S_\mathrm{exp} = 1.31 \times 10^{-5}$ sK. The latter, twice the theoretical value, can be justified by the Moriya theory of exchange enhancement. In th…
We consider transport through a Josephson junction consisting of a conventional s-wave superconductor coupled via a double quantum dot to a noncentrosymmetric superconductor with both, singlet and triplet pairing. We calculate the Andreev bound state energies and the associated Josephson current. We demonstrate that the current-phase relation is a sensitive probe of the singlet-triplet ratio in the noncentrosymmetric superconductor. In particular, in the presence of an inhomogeneous magnetic field the system exhibits a $φ$-junction behavior.
We performed $^{75}$As-NMR measurements to investigate the normal-state magnetic properties of CeRh$_2$As$_2$, a recently-discovered heavy-fermion superconductor. The magnitude and temperature dependence of the Knight shift at the As(2) site indicate easy-plane-type magnetic anisotropy in CeRh$_2$As$_2$. With regard to spin fluctuations, the temperature dependence of the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate $1/T_1$ arising from the 4$f$ electrons decreases from high-temperature constant behavior on cooling at $\sim$ 40~K, which is typical behavior of heavy-fermion systems. In addition, $1/T_1$…
For a noncentrosymmetric superconductor such as CePt3Si, we consider a Cooper pairing model with a two-component order parameter composed of spin-singlet and spin-triplet pairing components. We calculate the superfluid density tensor in the clean limit on the basis of the quasiclassical theory of superconductivity. We demonstrate that such a pairing model accounts for an experimentally observed feature of the temperature dependence of the London penetration depth in CePt3Si, i.e., line-node-gap behavior at low temperatures.
We numerically study the vortex core structure in a noncentrosymmetric superconductor such as CePt3Si without mirror symmetry about the xy plane. A single vortex along the z axis and a mixed singlet-triplet Cooper pairing model are considered. The spatial profiles of the pair potential, local density of states, supercurrent density, and radially-textured magnetic moment density around the vortex are obtained in the clean limit on the basis of the quasiclassical theory of superconductivity.
NbRh$_{2}$B$_{2}$ crystallises in a chiral noncentrosymmetric structure and exhibits bulk type-II superconductivity below $7.46(5)$~K. Here we show that the temperature dependence of the upper critical field deviates from the behaviour expected for both Werthamer-Helfand-Hohenberg and the Ginzburg-Landau models and that $μ_{0}H_{\mathrm{c2}}\left(0\right)\approx 18$~T exceeds the Pauli paramagnetic limit, $μ_{0}H_{\mathrm{P}}=13.9$~T. We explore the reasons for this enhancement. Transverse-field muon spectroscopy measurements suggest that the superconducting gap is either $s$-wave or $\left(s+…
Noncentrosymmetric superconductors have sparked significant research interests due to their exciting properties, such as the admixture of spin-singlet and spin-triplet Cooper pairs. Here we report $μ$SR and thermodynamic measurements on the noncentrosymmetric superconductor La7Rh3 which indicate a fully established superconducting gap and spontaneous time-reversal-symmetry breaking at the onset of superconductivity. We show that our results pose severe constraints on any microscopic theory of superconductivity in the system. A symmetry analysis identifies ground states compatible with time-rev…
Gap structure in noncentrosymmetric superconductors with spin-orbit band splitting is studied using a microscopic model of pairing mediated by phonons and/or spin fluctuations. The general form of pairing interaction in the band representation is derived, which includes both the intraband and interband pairing terms. In the case of isotropic interaction (in particular, for a BCS-contact interaction), the interband pairing terms vanish identically at any magnitude of the band splitting. The effects of pairing interaction anisotropy are analyzed in detail for a metal of cubic symmetry with stron…
We report the measurements of the $^{29}$Si Knight shift $^{29}K$ on the noncentrosymmetric heavy-fermion compound CePt$_{3}$Si in which antiferromagnetism (AFM) with $T_{\rm N}=2.2$ K coexists with superconductivity (SC) with $T_{c}=0.75$ K. Its spin part $^{29}K_{\rm s}$, which is deduced to be $K_{\rm s}^{c}\ge 0.11$ and 0.16% at respective magnetic fields $H=2.0061$ and 0.8671 T, does not decrease across the superconducting transition temperature $T_{c}$ for the field along the c-axis. The temperature dependence of nuclear spin-lattice relaxation of $^{195}$Pt below $T_{c}$ has been accoun…
The noncentrosymmetric NbReSi superconductor with $T_{c} \simeq 6.5$ K is characterized by the relatively large upper critical magnetic field. Its multigap features were observed experimentally. Recent studies suggested realization of P$\bar{6}$2m or Ima2 symmetry. We discuss the dynamical properties of both symmetries (e.g., phonon spectra). In this paper, using the ab initio techniques, we clarify this ambiguity, and conclude that the Ima2 symmetry is unstable, and P$\bar{6}$2m should be realized. The P$\bar{6}$2m symmetry is also stable in the presence of external hydrostatic pressure. We s…
The noncentrosymmetric superconductor Mo$_3$Rh$_2$N, with $T_c = 4.6$ K, adopts a $β$-Mn-type structure (space group $P$4$_1$32), similar to that of Mo$_3$Al$_2$C. Its bulk superconductivity was characterized by magnetization and heat-capacity measurements, while its microscopic electronic properties were investigated by means of muon-spin rotation and relaxation ($μ$SR). The low-temperature superfluid density, measured via transverse-field (TF)-$μ$SR, evidences a fully-gapped superconducting state with $Δ_0 = 1.73 k_\mathrm{B}T_c$, very close to 1.76 $k_\mathrm{B}T_c$ - the BCS gap value for …
We report on a microscopic study of the noncentrosymmetric superconductor W$_3$Al$_2$C (with $T_c$ = 7.6 K), mostly by means of $^{27}$Al- and $^{13}$C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Since in this material the density of states at the Fermi level is dominated by the tungsten's 5$d$ orbitals, we expect a sizeable spin-orbit coupling (SOC) effect. The normal-state electronic properties of W$_3$Al$_2$C resemble those of a standard metal, but with a Korringa product $1/(T_{1}T)$ significantly smaller than that of metallic Al, reflecting the marginal role played by $s$-electrons. In the supercon…
We report measurements of the temperature dependence of the magnetic penetration depth in different quality polycrystalline samples of noncentrosymmetric LaNiC2 down to 0.05 K. This compound has no magnetic phases and breaks time-reversal symmetry. In our highest quality sample we observe a T^2 dependence below 0.4Tc indicative of nodes in the energy gap. We argue that previous results suggesting conventional s-wave behavior may have been affected by magnetic impurities.
We study theoretically the surface of time-reversal-symmetric, noncentrosymmetric superconductor with mixed singlet and triplet order parameters. A pair of counterpropagating subgap quasiparticle surface bound states with opposite spin projections are obtained in the nontrivial Z$_2$ case where the triplet component is larger than the singlet one, contributing to a spin current. In contrast to the pure p-wave cases, these subgap states do not have a fixed spin projections but depend on the momenta along the surface. In the trivial Z$_2$ case where the singlet order parameter is larger, no subg…
We study the stability of topologically protected zero-energy flat bands at the surface of nodal noncentrosymmetric superconductors, accounting for the alteration of the gap near the surface. Within a selfconsistent mean-field theory, we show that the flat bands survive in a broad temperature range below the bulk transition temperature. There is a second transition at a lower temperature, however, below which the system spontaneously breaks time-reversal symmetry. The surface bands are shifted away from zero energy and become weakly dispersive. Simultaneously, a spin polarization and an equili…
The superconducting gap structure of a topological crystalline insulator (TCI) candidate ZrRuAs ($T^{\rm on}_{\rm c}$ = 7.9(1) K) with a noncentrosymmetric crystal structure has been investigated using muon spin rotation/relaxation ($μ$SR) measurements in transverse-field (TF) and zero-field (ZF) geometries. We also present the results of magnetization, electrical resistivity and heat capacity measurements on ZrRuAs, which reveal bulk superconductivity below 7.9~K. The temperature dependence of the effective penetration depth obtained from the analysis of the TF-$μ$SR spectra below $T_{\rm c}$…
Twin boundaries are generic crystalline defects in noncentrosymmetric crystal structures. We study theoretically twin boundaries in time-reversal symmetric noncentrosymmetric superconductors that admit parity-mixed Cooper pairing. Twin boundaries support spin currents as a consequence of this parity mixing. If the singlet and triplet components of the superconducting order parameter are of comparable magnitude, the superconducting state breaks spontaneously the bulk time-reversal symmetry locally near the twin boundary. By self-consistently evaluating the Bogoliubov-de-Gennes equations and the…
Superconductivity in materials whose crystal structure lacks inversion symmetry is a prime candidate for unconventional superconductivity. A new noncentrosymmetric compound Zr$_{3}$Ir crystallizes in a tetragonal $ α$-V$_{3} $S structure. The magnetization, specific heat and muon spin rotation confirm s-wave superconductivity, having a transition temperature T$_{c}$ = 2.3 K. Muon spin relaxation confirms the preservation of time reversal symmetry in the superconducting ground state.
Inelastic neutron scattering (INS) is employed to study damped spin-wave excitations in the noncentrosymmetric heavy-fermion superconductor CePt3Si along the antiferromagnetic Brillouin-zone boundary in the low-temperature magnetically ordered state. Measurements along the (1/2 1/2 L) and (H H 1/2-H) reciprocal-space directions reveal deviations in the spin-wave dispersion from the previously reported model. Broad asymmetric shape of the peaks in energy signifies strong spin-wave damping by interactions with the particle-hole continuum. Their energy width exhibits no evident anomalies as a fun…
For a noncentrosymmetric superconductor such as Y$_2$C$_3$, we consider a parity-mixing model composed of spin-singlet s-wave and spin-triplet f-wave pairing components. The $d$-vector in f-wave state is chosen to be parallel to the Dresselhaus asymmetric spin-orbit coupling vector. It is found that, the quasiparticle excitation spectrum exhibits distinct nodal structure as a consequence of parity-mixing. Our calculation predict anomalous noninteger power laws for low-temperature nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate $T_{1}^{-1}$. We demonstrate particularly that such a model can qualitatively …
We propose that in noncentrosymmetric superconductors with weakly asymmetric spin-orbit interaction the field-induced pair correlation between the spin-orbit split different bands ignored in previous studies yields unique effects; i.e. the Pauli depairing effect is anisotropic in the momentum space, and as a result, magnetic fields induce point-node-like anisotropic gap structure of the quasiparticle energy even for isotropic s-wave states, which seriously affects thermodynamic quantities at low temperatures. Also, it is shown that when the magnitude of the spin-orbit interaction is smaller th…
We present a detailed study of the gap symmetry and the quasiparticle wave function topology in two-dimensional superconductors without inversion center. The strong spin-orbit coupling of electrons with the crystal lattice makes it necessary to describe superconductivity in terms of one or more nondegenerate bands characterized by helicity. We develop a topological classification of the superconducting states using the integer-valued Maurer-Cartan invariants and the Bogoliubov Wilson loops, and also calculate the spectrum of fermionic boundary modes.
We investigate the Josephson transport properties in a Josephson junction consisting of a conventional $s$-wave superconductor coupled to a multi-orbital noncentrosymmetric superconductor marked by an orbitally driven inversion asymmetry and isotropic interorbital spin-triplet pairing. Contrary to the canonical single band noncentrosymmetric superconductor, we demonstrate that the local interorbital spin-triplet pairing is tied to the occurrence of sign-changing spin-singlet pair amplitude on different bands with $d$-wave symmetry. Such multi-band $d^{\pm}$-wave state is a unique superconducti…
