NbRh$_{2}$B$_{2}$ crystallises in a chiral noncentrosymmetric structure and exhibits bulk type-II superconductivity below $7.46(5)$~K. Here we show that the temperature dependence of the upper critical field deviates from the behaviour expected for both Werthamer-Helfand-Hohenberg and the Ginzburg-Landau models and that $μ_{0}H_{\mathrm{c2}}\left(0\right)\approx 18$~T exceeds the Pauli paramagnetic limit, $μ_{0}H_{\mathrm{P}}=13.9$~T. We explore the reasons for this enhancement. Transverse-field muon spectroscopy measurements suggest that the superconducting gap is either $s$-wave or $\left(s+s\right)$-wave, and the pressure dependence of $T_{\mathrm{c}}$ reveals the superconducting gap is primarily $s$-wave in character. The magnetic penetration depth $λ(0) = 595(5)$~nm. Heat capacity measurements reveal the presence of a multigap $\left(s+s\right)$-wave superconducting order parameter and moderate electron-phonon coupling.
We report the $^{11}$B nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements on non-centrosymmetric superconductors NbRh$_2$B$_2$ (superconducting transition temperature $T_c$ = 7.8 K) and TaRh$_2$B$_2$ ($T_c$ = 5.9 K) with a chiral crystal structure. The nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate $1/T_1$ shows no coherence peak below $T_{\rm c}$, which suggests unconventional nature of the superconductivity. In the normal state, $1/T_1T$ increases with decreasing temperature $T$ at low temperatures below $T$ = 200 K for TaRh$_2$B$_2$ and $T$ = 15 K for NbRh$_2$B$_2$, while the Knight shift remains constant…
We report superconductivity in the ternary half-Heusler compound LuPtBi, with Tc = 1.0 K and Hc2 = 1.6 T. The crystal structure of LuPtBi lacks inversion symmetry, hence the material is a noncentrosymmetric superconductor. Magnetotransport data show semimetallic behavior in the normal state, which is evidence for the importance of spin-orbit interaction. Theoretical calculations indicate that the strong spin-orbit interaction in LuPtBi should cause strong band inversion, making this material a promising candidate for 3D topological superconductivity.
We study pairing symmetry of noncentrosymmetric superconductors based on the extended Hubbard model on square lattice near half-filling, using the random phase approximation. We show that d+f-wave pairing is favored and the triplet f-wave state is enhanced by Rashba type spin-orbit coupling originating from the broken inversion symmetry. The enhanced triplet superconductivity stems from the increase of the effective interaction for the triplet pairing and the reduction of the spin susceptibility caused by the Rashba type spin-orbit coupling which lead to the increase of the triplet component a…
Mixing of spin singlet and spin triplet superconducting pairing state is expected in noncentrosymmetric superconductors (NCS) due to the inherent presence of Rashba-type antisymmetric spin-orbit coupling. Unlike low symmetry (tetragonal or monoclinic) NCS, parity is isotropicaly broken in space for cubic NCS and can additionally lead to the coexistence of magnetic and superconducting state under certain conditions. Motivated with such enriched possibility of unconventional superconducting phases in cubic NCS we are reporting successful formation of single crystalline cubic noncentrosymmetric P…
We report normal and superconducting properties of the Rashba-type noncentrosymmetric com- pound CaIrSi3, using single crystalline samples with nearly 100% superconducting volume fraction. The electronic density of states revealed by the hard x-ray photoemission spectroscopy can be well explained by the relativistic first-principle band calculation. This indicates that strong spin-orbit interaction indeed affects the electronic states of this compound. The obtained H - T phase diagram exhibits only approximately 10% anisotropy, indicating that the superconducting properties are almost three di…
We study the pairing symmetry of the noncentrosymmetric heavy fermion superconductors CeRhSi$_3$ and CeIrSi$_3$ under pressures, which are both antiferromagnets at ambient pressure. We solve the Eliashberg equation by means of the random phase approximation and find that the mixed state of extended s-wave and p-wave rather than the $d+f$ wave state could be realized by enhanced antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations. It is elucidated that the gap function has line nodes on the Fermi surface and the resulting density of state in the superconducting state shows a similar character to that of usual …
We report the magnetic and superconducting properties of locally noncentrosymmetric SrPtAs obtained by muon-spin-rotation/relaxation (muSR) measurements. Zero-field muSR reveals the occurrence of small spontaneous static magnetic fields with the onset of superconductivity. This finding suggests that the superconducting state of SrPtAs breaks time-reversal symmetry. The superfluid density as determined by transverse field muSR is nearly flat approaching T = 0 K proving the absence of extended nodes in the gap function. By symmetry, several superconducting states supporting time-reversal symmetr…
The electronic structure, phonons, electron-phonon coupling, and superconductivity are theoretically studied in noncentrosymmetric superconductor ThCoC$_2$ as a function of pressure, in the pressure range 0 - 20 GPa. We found that the electronic band splitting induced by the spin-orbit coupling is enhanced under pressure. In spite of the overall stiffening of the crystal lattice, the electron-phonon coupling constant $λ$ increases with pressure, from 0.583 at 0 GPa to 0.652 at 20 GPa. If the isotropic Eliashberg electron-phonon coupling theory is used to simulate the effect on the critical tem…
The ThIrSi superconductor, with $T_c = 6.5$ K, is expected to show unusual features in view of its noncentrosymmetric structure and the presence of heavy elements featuring a sizable spin-orbit coupling. Here, we report a comprehensive study of its electronic properties by means of local-probe techniques: muon-spin rotation and relaxation ({\textmu}SR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Both the superfluid density $ρ_\mathrm{sc}(T)$ (determined via transverse-field {\textmu}SR) and the spin-lattice relaxation rate $T_1^{-1}(T)$ (determined via NMR) suggest a nodeless superconductivity. Furt…
A large number of half-Heusler compounds have been recently proposed as three-dimensional (3D) topological insulators (TIs) with tunable physical properties. However, no transport measurements associated with the topological surface states have been observed in these half-Heusler candidates due to the dominating contribution from bulk electrical conductance. Here we show that, by reducing the mobility of bulk carriers, a two-dimensional (2D) weak antilocalization (WAL) effect, one of the hallmarks of topological surface states, was experimentally revealed from the tilted magnetic field dependen…
ThCoC$_2$ is a non-BCS, noncentrosymmetric superconductor with $T_c \simeq 2.5$~K, in which pairing mechanism was suggested to be either spin fluctuations or the electron-phonon coupling. Earlier experimental work revealed that $T_c$ can be greatly enhanced upon Ni doping in ThCo$_{1-x}$Ni$_x$C$_2$, up to 12~K for $x = 0.4$. In this work, using the Korringa-Kohn-Rostoker method with the coherent potential approximation (KKR-CPA), the evolution of the electronic structure upon Ni doping was studied and the increase of the density of states at the Fermi level was found. The electron-phonon coupl…
The noncentrosymmetric superconductor Mo$_3$Rh$_2$N, with $T_c = 4.6$ K, adopts a $β$-Mn-type structure (space group $P$4$_1$32), similar to that of Mo$_3$Al$_2$C. Its bulk superconductivity was characterized by magnetization and heat-capacity measurements, while its microscopic electronic properties were investigated by means of muon-spin rotation and relaxation ($μ$SR). The low-temperature superfluid density, measured via transverse-field (TF)-$μ$SR, evidences a fully-gapped superconducting state with $Δ_0 = 1.73 k_\mathrm{B}T_c$, very close to 1.76 $k_\mathrm{B}T_c$ - the BCS gap value for …
We report on novel antiferromagnetic (AFM) and superconducting (SC) properties of noncentrosymmetric CePt3Si through measurements of the 195Pt nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T_1. In the normal state, the temperature (T) dependence of 1/T1 unraveled the existence of low-lying levels in crystal-electric-field multiplets and the formation of a heavy fermion (HF) state. The coexistence of AFM and SC phases, that emerge at TN = 2.2 K and Tc = 0.75 K, respectively, takes place on a microscopic level. CePt3Si is the first HF superconductor that reveals a peak in 1/T1 just below Tc and, additi…
By employing a series of experimental techniques, we provide clear evidence that CaPtAs represents a rare example of a noncentrosymmetric superconductor which simultaneously exhibits nodes in the superconducting gap and broken time-reversal symmetry (TRS) in its superconducting state (below $T_c$ $\approx$ 1.5 K). Unlike in fully-gapped superconductors, the magnetic penetration depth $λ(T)$ does not saturate at low temperatures, but instead it shows a $T^2$-dependence, characteristic of gap nodes. Both the superfluid density and the electronic specific heat are best described by a two-gap mode…
We analyze the possible interaction-induced superconducting instabilities in noncentrosymmetric systems based on symmetries of the normal state. It is proven that pure electron-phonon coupling will always lead to a fully gapped superconductor that does not break time-reversal symmetry and is topologically trivial. We show that topologically nontrivial behavior can be induced by magnetic doping without gapping out the resulting Kramers pair of Majorana edge modes. In case of superconductivity arising from the particle-hole fluctuations associated with a competing instability, the properties of …
We report the first observation of multigap superconductivity in TaRh$_{2}$B$_{2}$. We show TaRh$_{2}$B$_{2}$ is a bulk type-II superconductor with a transition temperature, $T_{\mathrm{c}} = 6.00(5)$ K. We present transverse-field muon spin relaxation data where the superconducting gap can be fit using a two-gap $\left(s+s\right)$-wave model. We also report the zero-field electronic specific heat in the superconducting state that is best described by the same $\left(s+s\right)$ model providing further evidence of multiband behavior in this superconductor. Zero-field muon spin relaxation measu…
We report on a microscopic study of the noncentrosymmetric superconductor W$_3$Al$_2$C (with $T_c$ = 7.6 K), mostly by means of $^{27}$Al- and $^{13}$C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Since in this material the density of states at the Fermi level is dominated by the tungsten's 5$d$ orbitals, we expect a sizeable spin-orbit coupling (SOC) effect. The normal-state electronic properties of W$_3$Al$_2$C resemble those of a standard metal, but with a Korringa product $1/(T_{1}T)$ significantly smaller than that of metallic Al, reflecting the marginal role played by $s$-electrons. In the supercon…
Layered three-dimensional centrosymmetric crystals can exhibit characteristics of noncentrosymmetric materials. This happens when each individual layer alone lacks inversion, but, when combined, inversion symmetry is restored; hence the designation: locally noncentrosymmertic superconductors (LNCSs). In LNCSs, the effects of impurities and subdominant magnetic field induced pairing channels remain unexplored. Using a minimal model, we examine all pairing channels and show that there is always a subdominant superconducting instability that is favored at high magnetic fields, which can substanti…
This is a model study for the emergence of superconductivity in ferromagnetically ordered phases of cubic materials whose crystal structure lacks inversion symmetry. A Ginzburg-Landau-type theory is used to find the ferromagnetic state and to determine the coupling of magnetic order to superconductivity. It is found that noncentrosymmetricity evokes a helical magnetic phase. If the wavelength of the magnetic order is long enough, it gives rise to modulations of the order parameter of superconductivity, both in modulus and complex phase. At magnetic domain walls the nucleation of superconductiv…
The combination with superconductivity and topological nontrivial band structure provides a promising route towards novel quantum states such as topological superconductivity. Here, we report the first observation of superconductivity (4.1 K) in Ba5In4Bi5 single crystal, a noncentrosymmetric topological semimetal featuring nodal chain loops at the high-symmetry points R and X. The magnetization, resistivity, and specific heat capacity measurements reveal that Ba5In4Bi5 is a moderately coupled type-II Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer superconductor. Bulk superconductivity is suggested from the magneti…
The unconventional superconductivity in the noncentrosymmetric LaNiC$_2$, and its evolution with pressure, is analyzed basing on the {\it ab initio} computations and the full Eliashberg formalism. First principles calculations of the electronic structure, phonons and the electron-phonon coupling are reported in the pressure range 0-15 GPa. The thermodynamic properties of the superconducting state were determined numerically solving the Eliashberg equations. We found that already at $p=0$ GPa, the superconducting parameters deviate from the BCS-type, and a large value of the Coulomb pseudopoten…
Single crystals of NbGe$_{2}$ which crystallize in a noncentrosymmetric hexagonal structure with chirality are synthesized and their superconductivity is investigated. Type-I superconductivity is confirmed by dc magnetization, field-induced second-to first-order phase transition in specific heat, and a small Ginzburg-Landau parameter $κ_{GL}=0.12$. The isothermal magnetization measurements show that there is a crossover from type-I to type-II/1 superconductivity with decreasing temperature and an unusually enhanced surface superconducting critical field ($H_{c3}$) is discovered. The band struc…
In topological materials, Dirac fermions can split into two Weyl fermions with opposite chiralities due to the breaking of space inversion symmetry, while in non-centrosymmetric superconductors, novel superconducting electron pairing mechanisms arise because of the antisymmetric spin-orbit coupling. In this work, we report the pressure-introduced superconductivity in a typical noncentrosymmetric Weyl semimetal LaAlX (X=Si and Ge). Superconductivity was observed at around 65 GPa without structural phase transition. A typical dome-shape phase diagram is obtained with the maximum Tc of 2.5 K (2.1…
Noncentrosymmetric materials are promising paradigm to explore unconventional superconductivity. In particular, several Re containing noncentrosymmetric materials have attracted considerable attention due to a superconducting state with a broken time reversal symmetry. A comprehensive study on the superconducting ground state of NbReSi was investigated using magnetization, resistivity, and muon spin rotation/relaxation measurements. Zero field muon spectroscopy results showed the absence of any spontaneous magnetic field below the superconducting transition temperature, T$ _{c} $ = 6.29 K, ind…
RhGe synthesized at high pressure is crystallized in noncentrosymmetric cubic structure of the B20 type. Measurements of the electrical resistivity and magnetization demonstrate a superconducting state below T$_c$ ~ 4.5 K and a weak ferromagnetism below T$_m$ ~ 140 K. Specific heat data confirm the bulk nature of superconductivity in this ferromagnetic superconductor. The superconducting region forms a dome on the P-T diagram with a maximum of T$_c$ near 4 GPa. Ab initio simulations suggest that the observed weak magnetization emerges from the pronounced spin polarization with magnetic quadrup…
We show that the nonuniform state (Fulde-Ferrel-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) state) of the spin triplet superconductivity in noncentrosymmetric systems is stabilized by antisymmetric spin-orbit coupling even if the magnetic field is absent. The transition temperature of the spin triplet superconductivity is reduced by the antisymmetric spin-orbit coupling in general. This pair breaking effect is shown to be similar to the Pauli pair breaking effect due to magnetic field for the spin singlet superconductivity, in which FFLO state is stabilized near the Pauli limit (or Chandrasekhar-Clogston limit)…
We report a $^{71}$Ga nuclear-quadrupole-resonance (NQR) study on the characteristics of superconductivity in noncentrosymmetric Ir$_2$Ga$_9$ at zero field (H=0). The $^{71}$Ga-NQR measurements have revealed that $1/T_1$ has the clear coherence peak just below $T_{\rm c}$, and decreases exponentially upon further cooling in Ir$_2$Ga$_9$. From these results, Ir$_2$Ga$_9$ is concluded to be the conventional s-wave superconductor. Despite the lack of spatial centrosymmetry, there are no evidence for unconventional superconducting state ascribed to ASOC in Ir$_2$Ga$_9$.
We report the $^{207}$Pb nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements on polycrystalline sample of PbTaSe$_2$ with noncentrosymmetric crystal structure and topological electronic band. The nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate $1/T_1$ shows a suppressed coherence peak below the superconducting transition temperature $T_{\rm c}$ = 4.05 K and decreases as an exponential function of temperature. The penetration depth derived from the NMR spectrum is almost temperature independent below $T$ = 0.7 $T_{\rm c}$. The Knight shift $K$ decreases below $T_{\rm c}$. These results suggest spin-singlet supe…
We study the normal and the superconducting properties in noncentrosymmetric heavy fermion superconductors CeRhSi$_3$ and CeIrSi$_3$. For the normal state, we show that experimentally observed linear temperature dependence of the resistivity is understood through the antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations near the quantum critical point (QCP) in three dimensions. For the superconducting state, we derive a general formula to calculate the upper critical field $H_{c2}$, with which we can treat the Pauli and the orbital depairing effect on an equal footing. The strong coupling effect for general ele…
The noncentrosymmetric superconductor Re$_{24}$Ti$_{5}$, a time-reversal symmetry (TRS) breaking candidate with $T_c = 6$\,K, was studied by means of muon-spin rotation/relaxation ($μ$SR) and tunnel-diode oscillator (TDO) techniques. At a macroscopic level, its bulk superconductivity was investigated via electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility, and heat capacity measurements. The low-temperature penetration depth, superfluid density and electronic heat capacity all evidence an $s$-wave coupling with an enhanced superconducting gap. The spontaneous magnetic fields revealed by zero-field…
We report the synthesis, electronic properties, and electronic structure of ullmannite-type PtSbS, which has a cubic crystal structure without space inversion symmetry. Electrical resistivity and magnetization measured at low temperatures suggested that this compound is a bulk superconductor with a superconducting transition temperature of Tc = 0.15 K. First principles calculations indicated that Fermi surfaces of PtSbS include strongly nested hole pockets, which can make this compound interesting if they contribute to the emergence of superconductivity.
We report the discovery of Zr$_3$Ir as a new type of unconventional noncentrosymmetric superconductor (with $T_c = 2.3$ K), here investigated mostly via muon-spin rotation/relaxation ($μ$SR) techniques. Its superconductivity was characterized using magnetic susceptibility, electrical resistivity, and heat capacity measurements. The low-temperature superfluid density, determined via transverse-field $μ$SR and electronic specific heat, suggests a fully-gapped superconducting state. The spontaneous magnetic fields, revealed by zero-field $μ$SR below $T_c$, indicate the breaking of time-reversal s…
We microscopically derive the Ginzburg-Landau free energy functional for a noncentrosymmetric superconductor with a large spin-orbit splitting of the electron bands, in the presence of nonmagnetic impurities. The critical temperature is found to be suppressed by disorder, both for conventional and unconventional pairing, in the latter case according to the universal Abrikosov-Gor'kov function. The impurity effect on the upper critical field turns out to be nonuniversal, determined by the pairing symmetry and the band structure. In a BCS-like model, Tc is not affected, while Hc2 increases with …
We report an investigation of the superconducting order parameter of the noncentrosymmetric compound PbTaSe$_2$, which is believed to have a topologically nontrivial band structure. Precise measurements of the London penetration depth $Δλ(T)$ obtained using a tunnel diode oscillator (TDO) based method show an exponential temperature dependence at $T\ll T_c$, suggesting a nodeless superconducting gap structure. A single band s-wave model well describes the corresponding normalized superfluid density, with a gap magnitude of $Δ(0)=1.85T_c$. This is very close to the value of $1.76T_c$ for weak-c…
Superconductivity in materials whose crystal structure lacks inversion symmetry is a prime candidate for unconventional superconductivity. A new noncentrosymmetric compound Zr$_{3}$Ir crystallizes in a tetragonal $ α$-V$_{3} $S structure. The magnetization, specific heat and muon spin rotation confirm s-wave superconductivity, having a transition temperature T$_{c}$ = 2.3 K. Muon spin relaxation confirms the preservation of time reversal symmetry in the superconducting ground state.
A microscopic calculation and symmetry argument reveal superconductivity in the vicinity of parity-violating magnetic order. An augmented cluster magnetic multipole order in a crystal lacking local space inversion parity may break global inversion symmetry, and then, it is classified into an odd-parity multipole order. We investigate unconventional superconductivity induced by an odd-parity magnetic multipole fluctuation in a two-dimensional two-sublattice Hubbard model motivated by Sr$_2$IrO$_4$. We find that even-parity superconductivity is more significantly suppressed by a spin-orbit coupl…
The effects of lithium absorption on the crystal structure and electronic properties of IrSi3, a binary silicide with a noncentrosymmetric crystal structure, were studied. X-ray and neutron diffraction experiments revealed that hexagonal IrSi3 (space group P6_3mc) transforms into trigonal Li2IrSi3 (space group P31c) upon lithium absorption. The structure of Li2IrSi3 is found to consist of a planar kagome network of silicon atoms with Li and Ir spaced at unequal distances between the kagome layers, resulting in a polar structure along the c-axis. Li2IrSi3 exhibited type-II superconductivity wit…
We measured the resistivity, diamagnetization, and low-temperature specific heat of the newly discovered noncentrosymmetric superconductor Mg_(12-delta)Ir_19B_16. The temperature dependence of specific heat is consistent with the model of an isotropic s-wave gap with value Delta_0 = 0.94 meV for the sample Tc = 5.7 K, and the ratio Delta_0/k_BTc = 1.91 indicates a slightly moderate coupling for the superconductivity. The correlations among the normal state Sommerfeld constant gamma_n, the slope -dHc2(T)/dT near Tc, and the condensation energy Ec are all consistent with the slightly moderate co…
We measured the resistivity, diamagnetization and low temperature specific heat of the newly discovered noncentrosymmetric superconductor $Mg_{10}Ir_{19}B_{16}$. It is found that the superconducting gap has an s-wave symmetry with a value of about $Δ_0 \approx$ 0.6 meV, and the ratio $Δ_0/k_BT_c\approx1.86$ indicates a weak coupling for the superconductivity. The correlations among the normal state Sommerfeld constant $γ_n$, the slope $-dμ_0H_{c2}(T)/dT$ near Tc and the condensation energy Ec are all consistent with the weak coupling picture. The separated phonon contribution from the specific…
Noncentrosymmetric superconductors can lead to a variety of exotic properties in the superconducting state such as line nodes, multigap behavior, and time-reversal symmetry breaking. In this paper, we report the properties of the new noncentrosymmetric superconductor TaOs, using muon spin relaxation and rotation measurements. It is shown using the zero-field muon experiment that TaOs preserve the time-reversal symmetry in the superconducting state. From the transverse field muon measurements, we extract the temperature dependence of $λ(T)$ which is proportional to the superfluid density. This …
Inversion and time reversal are essential symmetries for the structure of Cooper pairs in superconductors. The loss of one or both leads to modifications to this structure and can change the properties of the superconducting phases in profound ways. Lacking inversion, superconductivity in noncentrosymmetric materials has become an important topic, in particular, in the context of topological superconductivity as well as unusual magnetic and magneto-electric properties. Recently, crystal structures with local, but not global inversion-symmetry breaking have attracted attention, as superconducti…
We report a comprehensive study of the noncentrosymmetric superconductor Mo$_3$P. Its bulk superconductivity, with $T_c = 5.5$ K, was characterized via electrical resistivity, magnetization, and heat-capacity measurements, while its microscopic electronic properties were investigated by means of muon-spin rotation/relaxation ($μ$SR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques. In the normal state, NMR relaxation data indicate an almost ideal metallic behavior, confirmed by band-structure calculations, which suggest a relatively high electron density of states, dominated by the Mo $4d$-orbi…
Superconductivity in noncentrosymmetric compounds has attracted sustained interest in the last decades. Here we present a detailed study on the transport, thermodynamic properties and the band structure of the noncentrosymmetric superconductor La$_7$Ir$_3$ ($T_c$ $\sim$2.3 K) that was recently proposed to break the time-reversal symmetry. It is found that La$_7$Ir$_3$ displays a moderately large electronic heat capacity (Sommerfeld coefficient $γ_n$ $\sim$ 53.1 mJ/mol $\text{K}^2$) and a significantly enhanced Kadowaki-Woods ratio (KWR $\sim$ 32 $μΩ$ cm mol$^2$ K$^2$ J$^{-2}$) that is greater …
The noncentrosymmetric superconductor Re$_6$Zr has attracted much interest due to the observation of broken time-reversal symmetry in the superconducting state. Here we report an investigation of the superconducting gap structure of Re$_6$Zr single crystals by measuring the magnetic penetration depth shift $Δλ(T)$ and electronic specific heat $C_e(T)$. $Δλ(T)$ exhibits an exponential temperature dependence behavior for $T~\ll~T_c$, which indicates a fully-open superconducting gap. Our analysis shows that a single gap $s$-wave model is sufficient to describe both the superfluid density $ρ_s(T)$…
The superconducting order parameter of the noncentrosymmetric superconductor LaRhSn is investigated by means of low temperature measurements of the specific heat, muon-spin relaxation/rotation ($μ$SR) and the tunnel-diode oscillator (TDO) based method. The specific heat and magnetic penetration depth [$λ(T)$] show an exponentially activated temperature dependence, demonstrating fully gapped superconductivity in LaRhSn. The temperature dependence of $λ^{-2}(T)$ deduced from the TDO based method and $μ$SR show nearly identical behavior, which can be well described by a single-gap $s$-wave model,…
In non-magnetic bulk materials, inversion symmetry protects the spin degeneracy. If the bulk crystal structure lacks a centre of inversion, however, spin-orbit interactions lift the spin degeneracy, leading to a Rashba metal whose Fermi surfaces exhibit an intricate spin texture. In superconducting Rashba metals a pairing wavefunction constructed from these complex spin structures will generally contain both singlet and triplet character. Here we examine the possible triplet components of the order parameter in noncentrosymmetric BiPd, combining for the first time in a noncentrosymmetric super…
When the inversion symmetry is broken, the spin-orbit coupling reduces the transition temperature of some types of spin triplet superconductivity, which is similar to the case that magnetic field reduces the spin singlet superconductivity due to Zeeman splitting. It is well known that Fulde-Ferrel-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) state of spin singlet superconductivity is realized near the Pauli limit (or Chandrasekhar-Clogston limit) of external magnetic field. In FFLO state the amplitude of the order parameter is not uniform in space. In this paper we study the FFLO state in the spin triplet superc…
We report the electronic structure, synthesis, and measurements of the magnetic, transport, and thermal properties of the polycrystalline noncentrosymmetric compound Re$_{6}$Zr. We observed a bulk superconducting transition at temperature $T_{c}$ $\sim$ 6.7 K, and measured the resistivity, heat capacity, thermal conductivity, and the London penetration depth below the transition, as well as performed doping and pressure studies. From these measurements we extracted the critical field, and the superconducting parameters of Re$_{6}$Zr. Our measurements indicate a relatively weak to moderate cont…
The noncentrosymmetric superconductor AuBe have been investigated using the magnetization, resistivity, specific heat, and muon-spin relaxation/rotation measurements. AuBe crystallizes in the cubic FeSi-type B20 structure with superconducting transition temperature observed at $T_{c}$ = 3.2 $\pm$ 0.1 K. The low-temperature specific heat data, $C_{el}$(T), indicate a weakly-coupled fully gapped BCS superconductivity with an isotropic energy gap 2$Δ(0)/k_{B}T_{c}$ = 3.76, which is close to the BCS value of 3.52. Interestingly, type-I superconductivity is inferred from the $μ$SR measurements, whi…
We report measurements of London penetration depth $λ(T)$ for the noncentrosymmetric superconductor BiPd by using a tunnel diode oscillator. Pronounced anisotropic behavior is observed in the low-temperature penetration depth; the in-plane penetration depth $λ_{ac}(T)$ follows an exponential decrease, but the interplane penetration depth $λ_b(T)$ shows power-law-type behavior. The superfluid density $ρ_s(T)$, converted from the penetration depth $λ(T)$, is best fitted by an anisotropic two-band BCS model. We argue that such a complex order parameter is attributed to the admixture of spin-singl…
The results of heat capacity C_p(T, H) and electrical resistivity ρ(T,H) measurements down to 0.35 K as well as muon spin relaxation and rotation (\muSR) measurements on a noncentrosymmetric superconductor LaIrSi3 are presented. Powder neutron diffraction confirmed the reported noncentrosymmetric body-centered tetragonal BaNiSn3-type structure (space group I4\,mm) of LaIrSi3. The bulk superconductivity is observed below T_c = 0.72(1) K. The intrinsic ΔC_e/γ_n T_c = 1.09(3) is significantly smaller than the BCS value of 1.43, and this reduction is accounted by the α-model of BCS superconductivi…
We report an investigation of the superconducting properties of the hexagonal noncentrosymmetric compound LaPdIn. Electrical resistivity, specific heat and ac susceptibility measurements demonstrate the presence of bulk superconductivity below $T_c$ = 1.6 K. The specific heat, together with the penetration depth measured using transverse-field muon spin rotation and the tunnel diode oscillator based method, are well described by single gap $s$-wave superconductivity, with a gap magnitude of 1.8$k_BT_c$. From zero-field muon spin relaxation results no evidence is found for the spontaneous emerg…
We report a comprehensive study of the centrosymmetric Re$_3$B and noncentrosymmetric Re$_7$B$_3$ superconductors. At a macroscopic level, their bulk superconductivity (SC), with $T_c$ = 5.1 K (Re$_3$B) and 3.3 K (Re$_7$B$_3$), was characterized via electrical-resistivity, magnetization, and heat-capacity measurements, while their microscopic superconducting properties were investigated by means of muon-spin rotation/relaxation ($μ$SR). In both Re$_3$B and Re$_7$B$_3$ the low-$T$ zero-field electronic specific heat and the superfluid density (determined via tranverse-field $μ$SR) suggest a nod…
I study the lattice dynamics and electron-phonon coupling in non-centrosymmetric quasi-one-dimensional K$_2$Cr$_3$As$_3$ using density functional theory based first principles calculations. The phonon dispersions show stable phonons without any soft-mode behavior. They also exhibit features that point to a strong interaction of K atoms with the lattice. I find that the calculated Eliashberg spectral function shows a large enhancement around 50 cm$^{-1}$. The phonon modes that show large coupling involve in-plane motions of all three species of atoms. The $\mathbf{q}$ dependent electron-phonon …
