In this paper we introduce a representation of knots and links called a cube diagram. We show that a property of a cube diagram is a link invariant if and only if the property is invariant under two types of cube diagram operations. A knot homology is constructed from cube diagrams and shown to be equivalent to knot Floer homology.

We compute the Reidemeister torsion of the complement of a twist knot in $S^3$ and that of the 3-manifold obtained by a Dehn surgery on a twist knot.

We study the asymptotics of the higher dimensional Reidemeister torsion for torus knot exteriors, which is related to the results by W. Müller and P. Menal-Ferrer and J. Porti on the asymptotics of the Reidemeister torsion and the hyperbolic volumes for hyperbolic 3-manifolds. We show that the sequence of log |the higher dimensional Reidemeister torsion of a torus knot exterior with SL(2N,C)-representation| / (2N)^2 converges to zero when N goes to infinity. Let $M_n$ be a homology 3-sphere obtained by $\frac1n$-Dehn surgery along a $(p,q)$-torus knot. We consider a polynomial $σ_{(p,q,n)}(t)$ whose zeros are the inverses of the Reideimeister torsion of $M_n$ for $\mathit{SL}(2;\mathbb{C})$-irreducible representations. We give an extension of Fox's formula of the Alexander polynomial for double branched covers over the three-sphere. Our formula provides the Reidemeister torsion of a double branched cover along a knot for a non-trivial one dimensional representation by the product of two factors derived from the knot group. One of the factors is determined by the twisted Alexander polynomial and the other is determined by a rational function on the character variety. As an application, we show that these products distinguish isotopy classes of two-bridge knots up to mirror images.

We define homology of ternary algebras satisfying axioms derived from particle scattering or, equivalently, from the third Reidemeister move. We show that ternary quasigroups satisfying these axioms appear naturally in invariants of Reidemeister, Yoshikawa, and Roseman moves. Our homology has a degenerate subcomplex. The normalized homology yields invariants of knots and knotted surfaces.

It is easily shown that any virtual knot can be deformed into a trivial knot by a finite sequence of generalized Reidemeister moves and two "forbidden moves" $F_{1}$ and $F_{2}$.
