A generalization of Selberg's beta integral involving Schur polynomials associated with partitions with entries not greater than 2 is explicitly computed. The complex version of this integral is given after proving a general statement concerning the complex extensions of Selberg-Schur integrals. All these results have interesting applications in both mathematics and physics, particularly in conformal field theory, since the conformal blocks for the $SL(2,\mathbb{R})$ Wess-Zumino-Novikov-Witten model can be obtained by analytical continuation of these integrals.
A set of recursive relations satisfied by Selberg-type integrals involving monomial symmetric polynomials are derived, generalizing previously known results. These formulas provide a well-defined algorithm for computing Selberg-Schur integrals whenever the Kostka numbers relating Schur functions and the corresponding monomial polynomials are explicitly known. We illustrate the usefulness of our results discussing some interesting examples.
An intriguing coincidence between the partition function of super Yang-Mills theory and correlation functions of 2d Toda system has been heavily studied recently. While the partition function of gauge theory was explored by Nekrasov, the correlation functions of Toda equation have not been completely understood. In this paper, we study the latter in the form of Dotsenko-Fateev integral and reduce it in the form of Selberg integral of several Jack polynomials. We conjecture a formula for such Selberg average which satisfies some consistency conditions and show that it reproduces the SU(N) versi…
In this paper we consider parafermionic Liouville field theory. We study integral representations of three-point correlation functions and develop a method allowing us to compute them exactly. In particular, we evaluate the generalization of Selberg integral obtained by insertion of parafermionic polynomial. Our result is justified by different approach based on dual representation of parafermionic Liouville field theory described by three-exponential model.
In their 2011 paper on the AGT conjecture, Alba, Fateev, Litvinov and Tarnopolsky (AFLT) obtained a closed-form evaluation for a Selberg integral over the product of two Jack polynomials, thereby unifying the well-known Kadell and Hua--Kadell integrals. In this paper we use a variety of symmetric functions and symmetric function techniques to prove generalisations of the AFLT integral. These include (i) an $\mathrm{A}_n$ analogue of the AFLT integral, containing two Jack polynomials in the integrand; (ii) a generalisation of (i) for $γ=1$ (the Schur or GUE case), containing a product of $n+1$ …
A simple integral formula as an iterated residue is presented for the Baker-Akhiezer function related to $A_n$ type root system both in the rational and trigonometric cases. We present also a formula for the Baker-Akhiezer function as a Selberg-type integral and generalise it to the deformed $A_{n,1}$-case. These formulas can be interpreted as new cases of explicit evaluation of Selberg-type integrals.
We obtain explicit expressions for positive integer moments of the probability density of eigenvalues of the Jacobi and Laguerre random matrix ensembles, in the asymptotic regime of large dimension. These densities are closely related to the Selberg and Selberg-like multidimensional integrals. Our method of solution is combinatorial: it consists in the enumeration of certain classes of lattice paths associated to the solution of recurrence relations.
We study Muttalib--Borodin ensembles --- particular eigenvalue PDFs on the half-line --- with classical weights, i.e. Laguerre, Jacobi or Jacobi prime. We show how the theory of the Selberg integral, involving also Jack and Schur polynomials, naturally leads to a multi-parameter generalisation of these particular Muttalib--Borodin ensembles, and also to the explicit form of underlying biorthogonal polynomials of a single variable. A suitable generalisation of the original definition of the Muttalib--Borodin ensemble allows for negative eigenvalues. In the cases of generalised Gaussian, symmetr…
We study a new Selberg-type integral with $n+m$ indeterminates, which turns out to be related to the deformed Calogero-Sutherland systems. We show that the integral satisfies a holonomic system of $n+m$ non-symmetric linear partial differential equations. We also prove that a particular hypergeometric function defined in terms of super Jack polynomials is the unique solution of the system. Some properties such as duality relations, integral formulas, Pfaff-Euler and Kummer transformations are also established. As a direct application, we evaluate the expectation value of ratios of characterist…
We investigate the simplest class of hyperdeterminants defined by Cayley in the case of Hankel hypermatrices (tensors of the form $A_{i_1i_2... i_k}=f(i_1+i_2+...+i_k)$). It is found that many classical properties of Hankel determinants can be generalized, and a connection with Selberg type integrals is established. In particular, Selberg's original formula amounts to the evaluation of all Hankel hyperdeterminants built from the moments of the Jacobi polynomials. Many higher-dimensional analogues of classical Hankel determinants are evaluated in closed form. The Toeplitz case is also briefly d…
We prove an $\mathbb F_p$-Selberg integral formula, in which the $\mathbb F_p$-Selberg integral is an element of the finite field $\mathbb F_p$ with odd prime number $p$ of elements. The formula is motivated by analogy between multidimensional hypergeometric solutions of the KZ equations and polynomial solutions of the same equations reduced modulo $p$.
The Selberg correlation integrals are averages of the products $\prod_{s=1}^m\prod_{l=1}^n (x_s - z_l)^{μ_s}$ with respect to the Selberg density. Our interest is in the case $m=1$, $μ_1 = μ$, when this corresponds to the $μ$-th moment of the corresponding characteristic polynomial. We give the explicit form of a $(n+1) \times (n+1)$ matrix linear difference system in the variable $μ$ which determines the average, and we give the Gauss decomposition of the corresponding $(n+1) \times (n+1)$ matrix. For $μ$ a positive integer the difference system can be used to efficiently compute the power se…
We study the twisted homology group attached to a Selberg type integral under some resonance condition, which naturally appears in the su_2-conformal field theory and the representation of the Iwahori-Hecke algebra. We determine the dimension of the space of the regularizable cycles. The dimension-formula is given in terms of the generalized hypergeometric series.
The connection problem associated with a Selberg type integral is solved. The connection coefficients are given in terms of the $q$-Racah polynomials. As an application of the explicit expression of the connection coefficients, examples of the monodromy-invariant Hermitian form of non-diagonal type are presented. It is noteworthy that such Hermitian forms are intimately related with the correlation functions of non-diagonal type in $\hat{sl_2}$-confromal field theory.
We show how to determine the asymptotics of a certain Selberg-type integral by means of tools available in the theory of (generalised) hypergeometric series. This provides an alternative derivation of a result of Carré, Deneufchâtel, Luque and Vivo [arXiv:1003.5996].
We investigate diverse relations of the colour-flavour transformations (CFT) introduced by Zirnbauer in \cite{Z1,Z2} to various topics in random matrix theory and multivariate analysis, such as measures on truncations of unitary random matrices, Jacobi ensembles of random matrices, Berezin reproducing kernels and a generalization of the Selberg integral due to Kaneko, Kadell and Yan involving the Schur functions. Apart from suggesting explicit formulas for bosonic CFT for the unitary group in the range of parameters beyond that in \cite{Z2}, we also suggest an alternative variant of the transf…
It has been remarked that a fair measure of the impact of Atle Selberg's work is the number of mathematical terms which bear his name. One of these is the Selberg integral, an n-dimensional generalization of the Euler beta integral. We trace its sudden rise to prominence, initiated by a question to Selberg from Enrico Bombieri, more than thirty years after publication. In quick succession the Selberg integral was used to prove an outstanding conjecture in random matrix theory, and cases of the Macdonald conjectures. It further initiated the study of q-analogues, which in turn enriched the Macd…
We prove an $\mathbb F_p$-Selberg integral formula of type $A_n$, in which the $\mathbb F_p$-Selberg integral is an element of the finite field $\mathbb F_p$ with odd prime number $p$ of elements. The formula is motivated by analogy between multidimensional hypergeometric solutions of the KZ equations and polynomial solutions of the same equations reduced modulo $p$. For the type $A_1$ the formula was proved in a previous paper by the authors.
Rescaled Mellin-type transforms of the exponential functional of the Bourgade-Kuan-Rodgers statistic of Riemann zeroes are conjecturally related to the distribution of the total mass of the limit lognormal stochastic measure of Mandelbrot-Bacry-Muzy. The conjecture implies that a non-trivial, log-infinitely divisible probability distribution is associated with Riemann zeroes. For application, integral moments, covariance structure, multiscaling spectrum, and asymptotics associated with the exponential functional are computed in closed form using the known meromorphic extension of the Selberg i…
The hyperdeteminants considered here are the simplest analogues of determinants for higher rank tensors which have been defined by Cayley, and apply only to tensors with an even number of indices. We have shown in a previous article that the calculation of certain multidimensional integrals could be reduced to the evaluation of hyperdeterminants of Hankel type. Here, we carry out this computation by purely algebraic means in the cases of Selberg's and Aomoto's integrals.
Selberg-type integrals that can be turned into constant term identities for Laurent polynomials arise naturally in conjunction with random matrix models in statistical mechanics. Built on a recent idea of Karasev and Petrov we develop a general interpolation based method that is powerful enough to establish many such identities in a simple manner. The main consequence is the proof of a conjecture of Forrester related to the Calogero--Sutherland model. In fact we prove a more general theorem, which includes Aomoto's constant term identity at the same time. We also demonstrate the relevance of t…
We investigate the asymptotic behavior of the Selberg-like integral $$ \frac1{N!}\int_{[0,1]^N}x_1^p\prod_{i<j}(x_i-x_j)^2\prod_ix_i^{a-1}(1-x_i)^{b-1}dx_i$$, as $N\to\infty$ for different scalings of the parameters $a$ and $b$ with $N$. Integrals of this type arise in the random matrix theory of electronic scattering in chaotic cavities supporting $N$ channels in the two attached leads. Making use of Newton's interpolation formula, we show that an asymptotic limit exists and we compute it explicitly.
We study $β$-Jacobi diffusion processes on alcoves in $\mathbb R^N$, depending on 3 parameters. Using elementary symmetric functions, we present space-time-harmonic functions and martingales for these processes $(X_t)_{t\ge0}$ which are independent from one parameter. This leads to a formula for $\mathbb E(\prod_{i=1}^N (y-X_{t,i}))$ in terms of classical Jacobi polynomials. For $t\to\infty$ this yields a corresponding formula for Jacobi ensembles and thus Aomoto's Selberg integral.
In the previous paper (J. Combin. Theory Ser. A, 120, 2013, 1263--1284) H. Tagawa and the two authors proposed an algebraic method to compute certain Pfaffians whose form resemble to Hankel determinants associated with moment sequences of the classical orthogonal polynomials. At the end of the paper they offered several conjectures. In this work we employ a completely different method to evaluate this type of Pfaffians. The idea is to apply certain de Bruijn type formula and convert the evaluation of the Pfaffians to the certain Selberg type integrals. This approach works not only for Pfaffian…
We characterize averages of $\prod_{l=1}^N|x - t_l|^{α- 1}$ with respect to the Selberg density, further contrained so that $t_l \in [0,x]$ $(l=1,...,q)$ and $t_l \in [x,1]$ $(l=q+1,...,N)$, in terms of a basis of solutions of a particular Fuchsian matrix differential equation. By making use of the Dotsenko-Fateev integrals, the explicit form of the connection matrix from the Frobenius type power series basis to this basis is calculated, thus allowing us to explicitly compute coefficients in the power series expansion of the averages. From these we are able to compute power series for the marg…
We consider the tensor power $V=(C^N)^{\otimes n}$ of the vector representation of $gl_N$ and its weight decomposition $V=\oplus_{λ=(λ_1,...,λ_N)}V[λ]$. For $λ= (λ_1 \geq ... \geq λ_N)$, the trivial bundle $V[λ]\times \C^n\to\C^n$ has a subbundle of q-conformal blocks at level l, where $l = λ_1-λ_N$ if $λ_1-λ_N> 0$ and l=1 if $λ_1-λ_N=0$. We construct a polynomial section $I_λ(z_1,...,z_n,h)$ of the subbundle. The section is the main object of the paper. We identify the section with the generating function $J_λ(z_1,...,z_n,h)$ of the extended Joseph polynomials of orbital varieties, defined in…
We conjecture an evaluation of three-partition cyclic Hodge integrals in terms of loop Schur functions. Our formula implies the orbifold Gromov-Witten/Donaldson-Thomas correspondence for toric Calabi-Yau threefolds with transverse type A singularities. We prove the formula in the case where one of the partitions is empty, and thus establish the orbifold Gromov- Witten/Donaldson-Thomas correspondence for local toric surfaces with transverse type A singularities.
There is a natural left and right invariant Haar measure associated with the matrix groups GL${}_N(\mathbb R)$ and SL${}_N(\mathbb R)$ due to Siegel. For the associated volume to be finite it is necessary to truncate the groups by imposing a bound on the norm, or in the case of SL${}_N(\mathbb R)$, by restricting to a fundamental domain. We compute the asymptotic volumes associated with the Haar measure for GL${}_N(\mathbb R)$ and SL${}_N(\mathbb R)$ matrices in the case of that the operator norm lies between $R_1$ and $1/R_2$ in the former, and this norm, or alternatively the 2-norm, is bound…
It is known that some matrix integrals over U(n) satisfy an sl(2,R)-algebra of Virasoro constraints. Acting with these Virasoro generators on 2-dimensional Schur function expansions leads to difference relations on the coefficients of this expansions. These difference relations, set equal to zero, are precisely the backward and forward equations for non-intersecting random walks. The transition probabilities for these random walks appear as the coefficients of an expansion of U(n)-matrix integrals (of the type above), by inserting in the integral the product of two Schur polynomials associated…
A new representation of the 2N fold integrals appearing in various two-matrix models that admit reductions to integrals over their eigenvalues is given in terms of vacuum state expectation values of operator products formed from two-component free fermions. This is used to derive the perturbation series for these integrals under deformations induced by exponential weight factors in the measure, expressed as double and quadruple Schur function expansions, generalizing results obtained earlier for certain two-matrix models. Links with the coupled two-component KP hierarchy and the two-component …
We interpolate matrix beta-integrals of Siegel, Hua Loo Keng and Gindikin types with respect to dimension of the field. The domain of integration (Rayleigh triangles) imitates collections of all the eigenvalues of all the principal minors of a self-adjoint matrix. We also interpolate the Hua--Pickrell measures on inverse limits of symmetric spaces. Our family of integrals also contains the Selberg integral.
