Viable models of modified gravity which satisfy both local as well as cosmological tests are investigated. It is demonstrated that some versions of such highly non-linear models exhibit multiply de Sitter universe solutions, which often appear in pairs, being one of them stable and the other unstable. It is explicitly shown that, for some values of the parameters, it is possible to find several de Sitter spaces
(as a rule, numerically); one of them may serve for the inflationary stage, while the other can be used for the description of the dark energy epoch. The numerical evolution of the effective equation of state parameter is also presented, showing that these models can be considered as natural candidates for the unification of early-time inflation with late-time acceleration through dS critical points. Moreover, based on the de Sitter solutions, multiply SdS universes are constructed which might also appear at the (pre-)inflationary stage. Their thermodynamics are studied and free energies are compared.
Within the context of modified gravity and dark energy scenarios of the accelerating universe, we study the stability of de Sitter space with respect to inhomogeneous perturbations using a gauge-independent formalism. In modified gravity the stability condition is exactly the same that one obtains from a homogeneous perturbation analysis, while the stability condition in scalar-tensor gravity is more restrictive.
We discuss the classical and quantum properties of non-local modified Gauss-Bonnet gravity in de Sitter space, using its equivalent representation via string-inspired local scalar-Gauss-Bonnet gravity with a scalar potential. A classical, multiply de Sitter universe solution is found where one of the de Sitter phases corresponds to the primordial inflationary epoch, while the other de Sitter space solution--the one with the smallest Hubble rate--describes the late-time acceleration of our universe. A Chameleon scenario for the theory under investigation is developed, and it is successfully use…
In this paper, we discuss the tunneling of scalar particles near the event horizon of stationary and nonstationary Kerr-de Sitter black hole using Lorentz violation theory in curved space time. The modified form of Hamilton-Jacobi equation is derived from the Klein-Gordon equation by applying Lorentz violation theory. The Hawking temperatures derived from stationary and nonstationary Kerr-de Sitter black holes are modified due to Lorentz violation theory. It is noted that the change in Bekenstein-Hawking entropy and modified Hawking temperatures of stationary and nonstationary Kerr-de Sitter b…
Inspired by some recent works of Lovelock Brans-Dicke gravity and mimetic gravity, cosmology solutions in extensions of these two modified gravities are investigated. A non-local term is added to the Lovelock Brans-Dicke action and Gauss-Bonnet terms to the mimetic action, correspondingly. De Sitter and power scale factor solutions are then obtained in both theories. They can provide natural new approaches to a more accurate description of the unverse evolution.
Based on the perspective that continuum gravitational physics is an emergent quantum gravitational phenomenon, and that spacetime thermodynamic is the natural langauge in which it can be described, we derive a modified Schwarzschild-de Sitter geometry in static coordinates from quantum gravity inspired logarithmic corrections to the entropy-area law. The resulting quantum corrections to classical geometry can be encoded in explicitly radius dependent black hole and cosmological constant parameters. By considering the pure black hole case we study linear perturbations on this modified backgroun…
We investigate the future evolution of Nariai black hole which is extremal limit of Schwarzschild-de Sitter one in modified gravity. The perturbations equations around Nariai black hole are derived in static and cosmological patches for general $F(R)$-gravity. The analytical and numerical study of several realistic $F(R)$-models shows the occurence of rich variety of scenarios: instabilities, celebrated Hawking evaporation and anti-evaporation of black hole. The realization of specific scenario depends on the model under consideration. It is remarkable that the presence of such primordial blac…
In this paper, the tunneling of vector boson particles across the event horizon of Kerr-Newman-de Sitter (KNdS) black hole is investigated using the WKB approximation and Hamilton-Jacobi ansatz to Proca equation. The tunneling probability and radiation spectrum at the event horizon of KNdS black hole is obtained. The modified Hawking radiation of stationary and non-stationary KNdS black hole are also investigated using the Rarita-Schwinger ansatz to the deformed Hamilton-Jacobi method and new tortoise coordinate transformation. It is observed that the modified Hawking temperatures near the eve…
The quantum tunneling radiation of scalar particles near the event horizon of Kerr-de Sitter black hole is investigated in three systems of coordinates namely naive coordinate system, Painleve coordinate system and Eddington coordinate system using Lorentz violation theory in curved space time. The Klein-Gordon equation of scalar particles is transformed into Hamilton-Jacobi equation by using Lorentz violation theory in curved space time. We observe that due to Lorentz violation theory, the expressions of Hawking temperatures, the Bekenstein-Hawking entropies and specific heat capacities near …
In this letter we choose generalized Ayon Beato Gracia (ABG) magnetic charged black hole with five parameters to investigate possibility of thermodynamic phase transition and coexistence of different gass/liquid/solid phases of this black hole. In fact this work is an extension of our recently work where ABG black hole with three parameters was used to seek the phase transition. In this work we obtain other physical values on the parameters with respect to our previous work where the phase transition is happened together with coexistence point of different phases in the phase space.
Motivated by issues on inflation, a generalized modified gravity model is investigated, where the model Lagrangian is described by a smooth function $f(R, K, ϕ)$ of the Ricci scalar $R$, the kinetic term $K$ of a scalar field $ϕ$. In particular, the one-loop effective action in the de Sitter background is examined on-shell as well as off-shell in the Landau gauge. In addition, the on-shell quantum equivalence of $f(R)$ gravity in the Jordan and Einstein frames is explicitly demonstrated. Furthermore, we present applications related to the stability of the de Sitter solutions and the one-loop q…
Motivated by the endeavors of Li Xiang and You-Gen Shen on naked singularities, we investigate the validity of the cosmic censorship conjecture in the context of generalized uncertainty principle. In particular, upon considering both linear and quadratic terms of momentum in the uncertainty principle, we first compute the entropy of a massless charged black hole in de Sitter spacetime at a given modified temperature. Then, we compute the corresponding modified cosmological radius and express the black hole electric charge in terms of this modified cosmological radius and, thus, in terms of the…
The de Sitter thermodynamics of cosmological models with a modified Friedmann equation is considered, with particular reference to high-energy Randall-Sundrum and Gauss-Bonnet braneworlds. The Friedmann equation can be regarded as the first law of thermodynamics of an effective gravitational theory in quasi de Sitter spacetime. The associated entropy provides some selection rules for the range of the parameters of the models, and is proposed for describing tunneling processes in the class of high-energy gravities under consideration.
The existence and the stability conditions for some exact relativistic solutions of special interest are studied in a higher-order modified teleparallel gravitational theory. The theory with the use of a Lagrange multiplier is equivalent with that of General Relativity with a minimally coupled noncanonical field. The conditions for the existence of de Sitter solutions and ideal gas solutions in the case of vacuum are studied as also the stability criteria. Furthermore, in the presence of matter the behaviour of scaling solutions is given. Finally, we discuss the degrees of freedom of the field…
A special relativity based on the de Sitter group is introduced, which is the theory that might hold up in the presence of a non-vanishing cosmological constant. Like ordinary special relativity, it retains the quotient character of spacetime, and a notion of homogeneity. As a consequence, the underlying spacetime will be a de Sitter spacetime, whose associated kinematics will differ from that of ordinary special relativity. The corresponding modified notions of energy and momentum are obtained, and the exact relationship between them, which is invariant under a re-scaling of the involved quan…
The quantum tunneling of charged massive vector boson particles across the event horizon of Kerr-Newman-de Sitter black hole is investigated under the influence of quantum gravity effects. The modified Hawking temperatures and heat capacities across the event horizon of KNdS black hole are derived in 3-dimensional and 4-dimensional frame dragging coordinates. It is found that due to quantum gravity effects the modified Hawking temperatures and heat capacities depend on the mass and angular momentum of the emitted vector boson particles. For 3-dimensional KNdS black hole, the modified Hawking t…
A frame work has been presented for theoretical interpretation of various modified gravitational models which is based on the group theoretical approach and unitary irreducible representations (UIR's) of de Sitter (dS) group. In order to illustrate the application of the proposed method, a model of modified gravity has been investigated. The background field method has been utilized and the linearized modified gravitational field equation has been obtained in the 4-dimensional dS space-time as the background. The field equation has been written as the eigne-value equation of the Casimir operat…
Owing to the existence of an invariant length at the Planck scale, Einstein special relativity breaks down at that scale. A possible solution to this problem is arguably to replace the Poincaré invariant Einstein special relativity by a de Sitter invariant special relativity. In addition to reconciling Lorentz symmetry with the existence of an invariant length, such replacement produces concomitant changes in all relativistic theories, including general relativity, which becomes what we have called 'de Sitter modified general relativity'. In this paper, the Newtonian limit of this theory is us…
We continue the exploration of the consistency of a modified-gravity theory that generalizes General Relativity by including a dynamical torsion in addition to the dynamical metric. The six-parameter theory we consider was found to be consistent around arbitrary torsionless Einstein backgrounds, in spite of its containing a (notoriously delicate) massive spin-2 excitation. At zero bare cosmological constant, this theory was found to admit a self-accelerating solution whose exponential expansion is sustained by a non-zero torsion background. The scalar-type perturbations of the latter torsionfu…
Conditions for the existence and stability of de Sitter space in modified gravity are derived by considering inhomogeneous perturbations in a gauge-invariant formalism. The stability condition coincides with the corresponding condition for stability with respect to homogeneous perturbations, while this is not the case in scalar-tensor gravity. The stability criterion is applied to various modified gravity models of the early and the present universe.
The Schwarzschild-de Sitter (SdS) solution exists in the large majority of modified gravity theories, as expected, and in particular the effective cosmological constant is determined by the specific parameters of the given theory. We explore the possibility to use future extended radio-tracking data from the currently ongoing New Horizons mission in the outskirts peripheries of the Solar System, at about 40 au, in order to constrain this effective cosmological constant, and thus to impose constrain on each scenario's parameters. We investigate some of the recently most studied modified graviti…
The one-loop effective action for non-minimal scalar modified gravity on de Sitter background with a constant scalar field is found. The corresponding induced cosmological constant is evaluated. It is shown that quantum effects in non-minimal modified gravity may induce an early-time de Sitter universe even in the situation when such solution does not occur on the classical level. Classical reconstruction of the theory is presented in such a way that the resulting theory has a cosmological solution unifying early-time inflation with late-time acceleration.
We investigate the Schwarzschild-Anti-deSitter (SAdS) and SdS BH thermodynamics in 5d higher derivative gravity. The interesting feature of higher derivative gravity is the possibility for negative (or zero) SdS (or SAdS) BH entropy which depends on the parameters of higher derivative terms. The appearence of negative entropy may indicate a new type instability where a transition between SdS (SAdS) BH with negative entropy to SAdS (SdS) BH with positive entropy would occur or where definition of entropy should be modified.
Scalar-tensor theory of gravity with non-minimal coupling is a fairly good candidate for dark energy, required to explain late-time cosmic evolution. Here we study the very early stage of evolution of the universe with a modified version of the theory, which includes scalar curvature squared term. One of the key aspects of the present study is that, the quantum dynamics of the action under consideration ends up generically with de-Sitter expansion under semiclassical approximation, rather than power-law. This justifies the analysis of inflationary regime with de-Sitter expansion. The other key…
It has been shown recently that the normal branch of a DGP braneworld scenario self-accelerates if the induced gravity on the brane is modified in the spirit of $f(R)$ modified gravity. Within this viewpoint, we investigate cosmological viability of the Hu-Sawicki type modified induced gravity. Firstly, we present a dynamical system analysis of a general $f(R)$-DGP model. We show that in the phase space of the model, there exist three standard critical points; one of which is a de Sitter point corresponding to accelerating phase of the universe expansion. The stability of this point depends on…
There is now overwhelming observational evidence that our Universe is accelerating in its expansion. I discuss how modified gravitational models can provide an explanation for this observed late-time cosmic acceleration. We consider specific low-curvature corrections to the Einstein-Hilbert action. Many of these models generically contain unstable de Sitter solutions and, depending on the parameters of the theory, late-time accelerating attractor solutions.
We investigate f(R)-gravity models performing the ADM-slicing of standard General Relativity. We extract the static, spherically-symmetric vacuum solutions in the general case, which correspond to either Schwarzschild de-Sitter or Schwarzschild anti-de-Sitter ones. Additionally, we study the cosmological evolution of a homogeneous and isotropic universe, which is governed by an algebraic and not a differential equation. We show that the universe admits solutions corresponding to acceleration at late cosmological epochs, without the need of fine-tuning the model-parameters or the initial condit…
According to theoretical physics the cosmological constant (CC) is expected to be much larger in magnitude than other energy densities in the universe, which is in stark contrast to the observed Big Bang evolution. We address this old CC problem not by introducing an extremely fine-tuned counterterm, but in the context of modified gravity in the Palatini formalism. In our model the large CC term is filtered out, and it does not prevent a standard cosmological evolution. We discuss the filter effect in the epochs of radiation and matter domination as well as in the asymptotic de Sitter future. …
We consider scalar-Gauss-Bonnet and modified Gauss-Bonnet gravities and reconstruct these theories from the universe expansion history. In particular, we are able to construct versions of those theories (with and without ordinary matter), in which the matter dominated era makes a transition to the cosmic acceleration epoch. It is remarkable that, in several of the cases under consideration, matter dominance and the deceleration-acceleration transition occur in the presence of matter only. The late-time acceleration epoch is described asymptotically by de Sitter space but may also correspond to…
The stability issue of generalized modified gravitational models is discussed with particular emphasis to de Sitter solutions. Two approaches are briefly presented.
We consider dark energy cosmology in a de Sitter universe filled with quantum conformal matter. Our model represents a Gauss-Bonnet model of gravity with contributions from quantum effects. To the General Relativity action an arbitrary function of the GB invariant, f(G), is added, and taking into account quantum effects from matter the cosmological constant is studied. For the considered model the conditions for a vanishing cosmological constant are considered. Creation of a de Sitter universe by quantum effects in a GB modified gravity is discussed.
The effective field theory of dark energy and modified gravity is supposed to well describe, at low energies, the behaviour of the gravity modifications due to one extra scalar degree of freedom. The usual curvature perturbation is very useful when studying the conditions for the avoidance of ghost instabilities as well as the positivity of the squared speeds of propagation for both the scalar and tensor modes, or the Stückelberg field performs perfectly when investigating the evolution of linear perturbations. We show that the viable parameters space identified by requiring no-ghost instabili…
It has been proposed that on (anti)-de Sitter background, the Heisenberg uncertainty principle should be modified by the introduction of a term proportional to the cosmological constant. We show that this modification of the uncertainty principle can be derived straightforwardly from the geometric properties of (anti)-de Sitter spacetime. We also discuss the connection between the so-called extended generalized uncertainty principle and triply special relativity.
A modified theory of gravity with the function $F(R) = (1-\sqrt{1-2λR})/λ$ is suggested and analyzed. At small value of the parameter $λ$ introduced the action is converted into Einstein$-$Hilbert action. The theory is consistent with local tests which gives a bound on the value of the parameter $λ\leq 2\times 10^{-6}$ cm$^2$. I have considered the Jordan frame as well as the Einstein frame in which the potential of the scalar field was obtained. The static Schwarzschild$-$de Sitter solutions of the model are obtained and analyzed. It was demonstrated that the de Sitter space is unstable but a…
Modified gravity and generalized second law (GSL) of thermodynamics are interesting topics in the modern cosmology. In this regard, we investigate the GSL of gravitational thermodynamics in the framework of modified Gauss-Bonnet gravity or f(G)-gravity. We consider a spatially FRW universe filled with the matter and radiation enclosed by the dynamical apparent horizon with the Hawking temperature. For two viable f(G) models, we first numerically solve the set of differential equations governing the dynamics of f(G)-gravity. Then, we obtain the evolutions of the Hubble parameter, the Gauss-Bonn…
The stability issue of a large class of modified gravitational models is discussed with particular emphasis to de Sitter solutions. Three approaches are briefly presented and the generalization to more general cases is mentioned.
We introduce higher-derivative Gauss-Bonnet correction terms in the gravity sector and we relate the modified gravity theory in the bulk to the strongly coupled quantum field theory on a de Sitter boundary. We study the process of holographic thermalization by examining three nonlocal observables, the two-point function, the Wilson loop and the holographic entanglement entropy. We study the time evolution of these three observables and we find that as the strength of the Gauss-Bonnet coupling is increased, the saturation time of the thermalization process to reach thermal equilibrium becomes s…
We employ the superpotential technique for the reconstruction of cosmological models with a non-minimally coupled scalar field evolving on a spatially flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker background. The key point in this method is that the Hubble parameter is considered as a function of the scalar field and this allows one to reconstruct the scalar field potential and determine the dynamics of the field itself, without a priori fixing the Hubble parameter as a function of time or of the scale factor. The scalar field potentials that lead to de Sitter or asymptotic de Sitter solutions, and those th…
We studied the anti-evaporation of degenerate Schwarzschild-de Sitter black hole (so-called Nariai space-time) in modified $F(R)$ gravity. The analysis of perturbations of the Nariai black hole is done with the conclusion that anti-evaporation may occur in such a theory already on classical level. For several power-law $F(R)$ gravities which may describe the inflation and/or dark energy eras we presented the theory parameters bounds for occurrence of anti-evaporation and conjectured creation of infinite number of horizons.
We discuss how to extract information about the cosmological constant from the Wheeler-DeWitt equation, considered as an eigenvalue of a Sturm-Liouville problem in a de Sitter and Anti-de Sitter background. The equation is approximated to one loop with the help of a variational approach with Gaussian trial wave functionals. A canonical decomposition of modes is used to separate transverse-traceless tensors (graviton) from ghosts and scalar. We show that no ghosts appear in the final evaluation of the cosmological constant. A zeta function regularization is used to handle with divergences. A re…
We study the black hole's shadow for Schwarzschild - de Sitter and Kerr - de Sitter metrics with the contribution of the cosmological constant Λ. Based on the reported parameters of the M87* black hole shadow we obtain constraints for the $Λ$ and show the agreement with the cosmological data. It is shown that, the coupling of the Λ-term with the spin parameter reveals peculiarities for the photon spheres and hence for the shadows. Within the parametrized post-Newtonian formalism the constraint for the corresponding Λ-determined parameter is obtained.
A modified theory of gravity with the function $F(R) = R\exp(αR)$ instead of Ricci scalar $R$ in the Einstein$-$Hilbert action is considered and analyzed. The action of the model is converted into Einstein$-$Hilbert action at small value of the parameter $α$. From local tests we obtain a bound on the parameter $α\leq 10^{-6}$ cm$^2$. The Jordan and Einstein frames are investigated and the potential of the scalar field in Einstein's frame is found. The mass of a scalar degree of freedom as a function of curvature is obtained. The static solutions of the model are found corresponding to the Schw…
In these lectures we give a review of recent attempts to understand quantum gravity on de Sitter spaces. In particular, we discuss the holographic correspondence between de Sitter gravity and conformal field theories proposed by Hull and by Strominger, and how this may be reconciled with the finite-dimensional Hilbert space proposal by Banks and Fischler. Furthermore we review the no-go theorems that forbid an embedding of de Sitter spaces in string theory, and discuss how they can be circumvented. Finally, some curious issues concerning the thermal nature of de Sitter space are elucidated.
The existence of anisotropic stress of a purely geometrical origin seems to be a characteristic of higher order gravity models, and has been suggested as a probe to test these models observationally, for example in weak lensing experiments. In this paper, we seek to find a class of higher order gravity models of f(R,G) type that would give us a zero anisotropic stress and study the consequences for the viability of the actual model. For the special case of a de Sitter background, we identify a subclass of models with the desired property. We also find a direct link between anisotropic stress a…
A brief review of cosmology in some generalized modified gravity theories with vacuum polarization is presented. Stability question of de Sitter solution is investigated.
We study the quantum-mechanical generation of gravitational waves during inflation on a brane embedded in a five-dimensional anti-de Sitter bulk. To make the problem well-posed, we consider the setup in which both initial and final phases are given by a de Sitter brane with different values of the Hubble expansion rate. Assuming that the quantum state is in a de Sitter invariant vacuum in the initial de Sitter phase, we numerically evaluate the amplitude of quantum fluctuations of the growing solution of the zero mode in the final de Sitter phase. We find that the vacuum fluctuations of the in…
We analyze the effect of Planck-scale modified radiation equation of state on the Reissner-Nodström-anti-de Sitter black hole inspired by Kiselev's ansatz. Deformed thermodynamic quantities are found, phase transitions and black holes as heat engines are described for the Carnot and square cycles. Non-trivial differences between linear and quadratic Planck-scale corrections are discussed in detail.
Cosmological approaches of autonomous dynamical system in the framework of $f(T)$ gravity are investigated in this paper. Our methods applied to flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker equations in $f(T)$ gravity, consist to extract dynamical systems whose time-dependence is contained in a single parameter $m$ depending on the Hubble rate of Universe and its second derivative. In our attempt to investigate the autonomous aspect of the dynamical systems reconstructed in both vacuum and non-vacuum $f(T)$ gravities, two values of the parameter $m$ have been considered for our present analysis. In the so-…
According to a corrected dispersion relation proposed in the study on string theory and quantum gravity theory, Rarita-Schwinger equation has been precisely modified, which results in a Rarita-Schwinger-Hamilton-Jacobi equation, and through which, the characteristics of arbitrary spin fermions quantum tunneling radiation from non-stationary Kerr-de Sitter black hole are researched. A series of accurately corrected physical quantities such as surface gravity, chemical potential, tunneling probability and Hawking temperature that describe the properties of the black hole are derived. This resear…
We analytically derive a class of non-singular, static and spherically symmetric topological black hole metrics inF(R)-gravity. These have not a de Sitter core at their centre, as most model in standard General Relativity. We study the geometric properties and the motion of test particles around these objects. Since they have two horizons, the inner being of Cauchy type, we focus on the problem of mass inflation and show that it occurs except when some extremal conditions are met.
In the de Sitter gauge theory (DGT), the fundamental variables are the de Sitter (dS) connection and the gravitational Higgs/Goldstone field $ξ^A$. Previously, a model for DGT was analyzed, which generalizes the MacDowell--Mansouri gravity to have a variable cosmological constant $Λ=3/l^2$, where $l$ is related to $ξ^A$ by $ξ^Aξ_A=l^2$. It was shown that the model sourced by a perfect fluid does not support a radiation epoch and the accelerated expansion of the parity invariant universe. In this work, I consider a similar model, namely, the Stelle--West gravity, and couple it to a modified per…
In the context of $f(R)$ gravity theories, the issue of finding static and spherically symmetric black hole solutions is addressed. Two approaches to study the existence of such solutions are considered: first, constant curvature solutions, and second, the general case (without imposing constant curvature) is also studied. Performing a perturbative expansion around the Einstein-Hilbert action, it is found that only solutions of the Schwarzschild-(Anti-) de Sitter type are present (up to second order in perturbations) and the explicit expressions for these solutions are provided in terms of the…
We investigate instability of 4-dimensional Reissner-Nordström-anti-de Sitter (RN-AdS$_4$) black holes with various topologies by charged scalar field perturbations. We numerically find that the RN-AdS$_4$ black holes become unstable against the linear perturbations below a critical temperature. It is analytically shown that charge extraction from the black holes occurs during the unstable evolution. To explore the end state of the instability, we perturbatively construct static black hole solutions with the scalar hair near the critical temperature. It is numerically found that the entropy of…
