We study the equations of a two dimensional incompressible Newtonian fluid coupled with a dispersive parabolic-elliptic system on bounded domains. Global in time weak solutions are shown to exist and converge with a rate to the stationary solution for L^2 initial data. This paper extends and improves on a body of work surrounding the Debye-Huckel system to the hydrodyanamical case.
We prove existence of standing waves for two quantum hydrodynamics systems with linear and nonlinear viscosity. Moreover, global existence of traveling waves is proved for the former without restrictions on the viscosity and dispersion parameters, thanks to a suitable Lyapunov function. This is an improvement with respect to the global existence result in \cite{LMZ2020}, where it was required that the viscosity is sufficiently strong.
In this paper, we consider the $3$D compressible radiation hydrodynamic (RHD) equations with thermal conductivity in a bounded domain. The existence of unique local strong solutions is firstly established when the initial data are arbitrarily large and satisfy some initial layer compatibility condition. The initial mass density needs not be bounded away from zero and may vanish in some open set. Moreover, we show that if the initial vacuum domain is not so irregular, then the compatibility condition is necessary and sufficient to guarantee the existence of the unique strong solution. Finally, …
In this paper, we consider the 3-D compressible isentropic radiation hydrodynamics (RHD) equations. The local existence of strong solutions with vacuum is firstly established when the initial data is arbitrarily large, contains vacuum and satisfy some initial layer compatibility condition. The initial mass density needs not be bounded away from zero, it may vanish in some open set or decay at infinity. We also prove that if the initial vacuum is not so irregular, then the compatibility condition of the initial data is necessary and sufficient to guarantee the existence of a unique strong solut…
In this work we introduce a well-posed mathematical model for the processes involved in the artificial circulation of water, in order to avoid eutrophication phenomena, for instance, in a lake. This novel and general formulation is based on the modified Navier-Stokes equations following the Smagorinsky model of turbulence, and presenting a suitable nonhomogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition. For the analytical study of the problem, we prove several theoretical results related to existence, uniqueness and smoothness for the solution of this recirculation model.
In this note we reveal new classes of solutions to hydrodynamic Euler alignment systems governing collective behavior of flocks. The solutions describe unidirectional parallel motion of agents, and are globally well-posed in multi-dimensional settings subject to a threshold condition similar to the one dimensional case. We develop the flocking and stability theory of these solutions and show long time convergence to traveling wave with rapidly aligned velocity field. In the context of multi-scale models introduced in \cite{ST-multi} our solutions can be superimposed into Mikado formations -- c…
In this paper we consider a coupled hydrodynamical system which involves the Navier-Stokes equations for the velocity field and kinematic transport equations for the molecular orientation field. By applying the Chemin-Lerner's time-space estimates for the heat equation and the Fourier localization technique, we prove that when initial data belongs to the critical Besov spaces with negative-order, there exists a unique local solution, and this solution is global when initial data is small enough. As a corollary, we obtain existence of global self-similar solutions. In order to figure out the re…
We study a Paveri-Fontana type model, which describes the evolution of the mesoscopic distribution of vehicles through a combined effect of adjustment of the velocity with respect to nearby vehicles, and slowing down and speeding up of the vehicles arising as a result of exchange of velocity with the vehicles on the same location on the road. We first prove the global-in-time existence of weak solutions. The proof is via energy, $L^p$, and compact support estimates together with velocity averaging lemma. The combined effect of alignment nature of $Q_r$, which keeps the characteristic from spre…
In this paper we study existence and stability of shock profiles for a 1-D compressible Euler system in the context of Quantum Hydrodynamic models. The dispersive term is originated by the quantum effects described through the Bohm potential; moreover we introduce a (linear) viscosity to analyze its interplay with the former while proving existence, monotonicity and stability of travelling waves connecting a Lax shock for the underlying Euler system. The existence of monotone profiles is proved for sufficiently small shocks; while the case of large shocks leads to the (global) existence for an…
This paper addresses the issue of global existence of so-called $κ$-entropy solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations for viscous compressible and barotropic fluids with degenerate viscosities. We consider the three dimensional space domain with periodic boundary conditions. Our solutions satisfy the weak formulation of the mass and momentum conservation equations and also a generalization of the BD-entropy identity called: $κ$-entropy. This new entropy involves a mixture parameter $κ\in (0,1)$ between the two velocities $\bf{u}$ and $\bf{u} + 2\nablaφ(\varrho)$ (the latter was introduced by th…
The classical solution of the 3-D radiative hydrodynamics model is studied in $H^k$-norm under two different conditions, with and without heat conductivity. We have proved the following results in both cases. First, when the $H^k$ norm of the initial perturbation around a constant state is sufficiently small and the integer $k\geq2$, a unique classical solution to such Cauchy problem is shown to exist. Second, if we further assume that the $L^1$ norm of the initial perturbation is small too, the i-order($0\leq i\leq k-2$) derivative of the solutions have the decay rate of $(1+t)^{-\frac 34-\fr…
The hydrodynamic equations with quantum effects are studied in this paper. First we establish the global existence of smooth solutions with small initial data and then in the second part, we establish the convergence of the solutions of the quantum hydrodynamic equations to those of the classical hydrodynamic equations. The energy equation is considered in this paper, which added new difficulties to the energy estimates, especially to the selection of the appropriate Sobolev spaces.
In this paper we study existence of traveling waves for 1-D compressible Euler system with dispersion (which models quantum effects through the Bohm potential) and nonlinear viscosity in the context of quantum hydrodynamic models for superfluidity. The existence of profiles is proved for appropriate (super- or sub- sonic) end states defining Lax shocks for the underlying Euler system formulated in terms of density and velocity without restrictions for the viscosity and dispersion parameters. On the other hand, the interplay of the dispersion and the viscosity plays a crucial role in proving th…
We establish the global-in-time existence of weak solutions to a variant of the BGK model proposed by Bouchut [J. Stat. Phys., 95, (1999), 113--170] which leads to the barotropic Euler equations in the hydrodynamic limit. Our existence theory makes the quantified estimates of hydrodynamic limit from the BGK-type equations to the multi-dimensional barotropic Euler system discussed by Berthelin and Vasseur [SIAM J. Math. Anal., 36, (2005), 1807--1835] completely rigorous.

In this paper we prove global in time existence of weak solutions to zero Mach number systems arising in fluid mechanics. Relaxing a certain algebraic constraint between the viscosity and the conductivity introduced in [D. Bresch, E.H. Essoufi, and M. Sy, J. Math. Fluid Mech. 2007] gives a more complete answer to an open question formulated in [P.-L. Lions, Oxford 1998]. A new mathematical entropy shows clearly the existence of two-velocity hydrodynamics with a fixed mixture ratio. As an application of our result we first discuss a model of gaseous mixture extending the results of [P. Embid, C…
The purpose of this paper is to study radial solutions for steady hydrodynamic model of semiconductors represented by Euler-Poisson equations with sonic boundary. The existence and uniqueness of radial subsonic solution, and the existence of radial supersonic solutions are derived by using the energy method and the compactness method, but under a general condition of the doping profile. In particular, for radial supersonic solutions, it is more difficult to get the related estimates by the effect of high dimensional space and the sonic boundary, so we apply a special iteration to complete the …
In this paper we consider the one dimensional quantum hydrodynamics (QHD) system, with a genuine hydrodynamic approach. The global existence of weak solutions with large data has been obtained in [2, 3], in several space dimensions, by using the connection between the hydrodynamic variables and the Schrödinger wave function. One of the main purposes of the present paper is to overcome the need to postulate the a priori existence of a wave function that generates the hydrodynamic data. Moreover, we introduce a novel functional, related to the chemical potential in the quantum probability densit…
In this work we prove the existence and uniqueness of the strong solution to the two-dimensional stochastic magneto-hydrodynamic system perturbed by Levy noise. The local monotonicity arguments have been ex- ploited in the proofs. The existence of a unique invariant measures has been proved using the exponential stability of solutions.
In this paper, we investigate some sufficient conditions for the breakdown of local smooth solutions to the three dimensional nonlinear nonlocal dissipative system modeling electro-hydrodynamics. This model is a strongly coupled system by the well-known incompressible Navier-Stokes equations and the classical Poisson-Nernst-Planck equations. We show that the maximum of the vorticity field alone controls the breakdown of smooth solutions, which reveals that the velocity field plays a more dominant role than the density functions of charged particles in the blow-up theory of the system. Moreover…
In this paper, we study a hydrodynamic phase-field system modeling the deformation of functionalized membranes in incompressible viscous fluids. The governing PDE system consists of the Navier-Stokes equations coupled with a convective sixth-order Cahn-Hilliard type equation driven by the functionalized Cahn-Hilliard free energy, which describes phase separation in mixtures with an amphiphilic structure. In the three dimensional case, we first prove existence of global weak solutions provided that the initial total energy is finite. Then we establish uniqueness of weak solutions under suitable…
We discuss several geometric PDEs and their relationship with Hydrodynamics and classical Electrodynamics. We start from the Euler equations of ideal incompressible fluids that, geometrically speaking, describe geodesics on groups of measure preserving maps with respect to the $L^2$ metric. Then, we introduce a geometric approximation of the Euler equation, which involves the Monge-Ampère equation and the Monge-Kantorovich optimal transportation theory. This equation can be interpreted as a fully nonlinear correction of the Vlasov-Poisson system that describes the motion of electrons in a unif…
Hydrodynamic systems arising in swarming modelling include nonlocal forces in the form of attractive-repulsive potentials as well as pressure terms modelling strong local repulsion. We focus on the case where there is a balance between nonlocal attraction and local pressure in presence of confinement in the whole space. Under suitable assumptions on the potentials and the pressure functions, we show the global existence of weak solutions for the hydrodynamic model with viscosity and linear damping. By introducing linear damping in the system, we ensure the existence and uniqueness of stationar…
We consider the zero-electron-mass limit for the Navier-Stokes-Poisson system in unbounded spatial domains. Assuming smallness of the viscosity coefficient and ill-prepared initial data, we show that the asymptotic limit is represented by the incompressible Navier-Stokes system, with a Brinkman damping, in the case when viscosity is proportional to the electron-mass, and by the incompressible Euler system provided the viscosity is dominated by the electron mass. The proof is based on the RAGE theorem and dispersive estimates for acoustic waves, and on the concept of suitable weak solutions for…
We are concerned with the global existence and large time behavior of entropy solutions to the one dimensional unipolar hydrodynamic model for semiconductors in the form of Euler-Poisson equations in a bounded interval. In this paper, we first prove the global existence of entropy solution by vanishing viscosity and compensated compactness framework. In particular, the solutions are uniformly bounded with respect to space and time variables by introducing modified Riemann invariants and the theory of invariant region. Based on the uniform estimates of density, we further show that the entropy …
In this paper we study the hydrodynamic limit of a B.G.K. like kinetic model on domains with boundaries via $BV_{loc}$ theory. We obtain as a consequence existence results for scalar multidimensional conservation laws with kinetic boundary conditions. We require that the initial and boundary data satisfy the optimal assumptions that they all belong to $L^1\cap L^\infty$ with the additional regularity assumptions that the initial data are in $BV_{loc}$. We also extend our hydrodynamic analysis to the case of a generalized kinetic model to account for forces effects and we obtain as a consequenc…
This paper is devoted to the geometric analysis of the incompressible averaged Euler equations on compact Riemannian manifolds with boundary. The equation also coincides with the model for a second-grade non-Newtonian fluid. We study the analytical and geometrical properties of the Lagrangian flow map. We prove existence and uniqueness of smooth-in-time solutions for initial data in $H^s$, $s > n/2 +1$ by establishing the existence of smooth geodesics of a new weak right invariant metric on new subgroups of the volume-preserving diffeomorphism group. We establish smooth limits of zero viscosit…
We examine the existence of shock profiles for a hyperbolic-elliptic system arising in radiation hydrodynamics. The algebraic-differential system for the wave profile is reduced to a standard two-dimensional form that is analyzed in details showing the existence of heteroclinic connection between the two singular points of the system for any distance between the corresponding asymptotic states of the original model. Depending on the location of these asymptotic states, the profile can be either continuous or possesses at most one point of discontinuity. Moreover, a sharp threshold relative to …
The hydrodynamical model of the collective behavior of animals consists of the Euler equation with additional non-local forcing terms representing the repulsive and attractive forces among individuals. This paper deals with the system endowed with an additional white-noise forcing and an artificial viscous term. We provide a proof of the existence of a dissipative martingale solution -- a cornerstone for a subsequent analysis of the system with stochastic forcing.
We consider a two-tensor hydrodynamics derived from the molecular model, where high-order tensors are determined by closure approximation through the maximum entropy state or the quasi-entropy. We prove the existence and uniqueness of local in time smooth solutions to the two-tensor system. Then, we rigorously justify the connection between the molecular-theory-based two-tensor hydrodynamics and the biaxial frame hydrodynamics. More specifically, in the framework of Hilbert expansion, we show the convergence of the solution to the two-tensor hydrodynamics to the solution to the frame hydrodyna…
In this paper, we develop a general mathematical framework for perfect and approximate hydrodynamic cloaking and shielding of electro-osmotic flow, which is governed by a coupled PDE system via the field-effect electro-osmosis. We first establish the representation formula of the solution of the coupled system using the layer potential techniques. Based on Fourier series, the perfect hydrodynamic cloaking and shielding conditions are derived for the control region with the cross-sectional shape being annulus or confocal ellipses. Then we further propose an optimization scheme for the design of…
We construct a family of integrable hydrodynamic type systems with three independent and n>1 dependent variables in terms of solutions of linear system of PDEs with rational coefficients. We choose the existence of a pseudopotential as a criterion of integrability. In the case n=2 this family is a general solution of the classification problem for such systems. We give also an elliptic analog of this family in the case n>2.
