We present a new measurement of the decay B- -> tau- nu_tau-bar with a semileptonic B tagging method, using a data sample containing 657*10^6 BB-bar pairs collected at the (4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric e+e- collider. A sample of BB pairs are tagged by reconstructing one B meson decaying semileptonically. We detect the B- -> tau- nu_tau-bar candidate in the recoil. We obtain a signal with a signicance of 3.8 standard deviations including systematics, and measure the branching fraction to be B(B- -> tau- nu_tau-bar)=(1.65+0.38-0.37(stat)+0.35-0.37(syst))*10^4. This result confirms the evidence for B- -> tau- nu_tau-bartained in the previous Belle measurement with a hadronic B tagging method.
B^0-anti-B^0 flavor oscillations are studied in e^+e^- annihilation data collected with the BABAR detector at center-of-mass energies near the Y(4S) resonance. One B is reconstructed in a hadronic or semileptonic decay mode, and the flavor of the other B in the event is determined with a tagging algorithm that exploits the relation between the flavor of the heavy quark and the charges of its decay products. Tagging performance is characterized by an efficiency e_i and a probability for mis-identification, w_i, for each tagging category. We report a determination of the wrong-tag probabilities,…

A sample of BB_bar pairs are tagged by reconstructing one B meson decaying semileptonically. We detect the B- -> tau- nu_bar candidate in the recoil. We obtain a signal with a significance of 3.6 standard deviations including systematic uncertainties, and measure the branching fraction to be Br(B- -> tau- nu_bar) = [1.54+0.38-0.37(stat)+0.29-0.31(syst)]*10^-4. We report a measurement of the ratios of branching fractions $\mathcal{R}(D^{(*)}) = {\cal B}(\bar{B} \to D^{(*)} τ^- \barν_τ)/{\cal B}(\bar{B} \to D^{(*)} \ell^- \barν_{\ell})$ where $\ell$ denotes an electron or a muon. The results are based on a data sample containing $772 \times 10^6$ $B\bar{B}$ events recorded at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+ e^-$ collider. The tag-side B meson is reconstructed in a semileptonic decay mode, and the signal-side $τ$ is reconstructed in a purely leptonic decay. The results are $\mathcal{R}(D) = 0.307 \pm 0.037 \pm 0.016$ and …

We present measurements of the semileptonic decays B- --> D0 tau- nubar, B- --> D*0 tau- nubar, B0bar --> D+ tau- nubar, and B0bar --> D*+ tau- nubar, which are potentially sensitive to non--Standard Model amplitudes. The data sample comprises 232x10^6 Upsilon(4S) --> BBbar decays collected with the BaBar detector. From a combined fit to B- and B0bar channels, we obtain the branching fractions B(B --> D tau- nubar) = (0.86 +/- 0.24 +/- 0.11 +/- 0.06)% and B(B --> D* tau- nubar) = (1.62 +/- 0.31 +/- 0.10 +/- 0.05)% (normalized for the B0bar), where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic,…
Decays of B mesons to states involving tau leptons can be used as a tool to search for the effects of new physics, such as those involving a charged Higgs boson. The experimental status of the decays B -> tau nu and B -> D^(*) tau nu is discussed, together with limits on new physics effects from current results.
We present preliminary measurements of branching fractions for the semileptonic decays B --> D tau nubar and B --> D* tau nubar, which are potentially sensitive to non--Standard Model amplitudes. The data sample comprises 232x10^6 Upsilon(4S) --> BBbar decays collected with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II e+e- storage ring. We obtain B(B- --> D0 tau nubar) = (0.63 +/- 0.38 +/- 0.10 +/- 0.06)%, B(B- --> D*0 tau nubar) = (2.35 +/- 0.49 +/- 0.22 +/- 0.18)%, B(B0bar --> D+ tau nubar) = (1.03 +/- 0.35 +/- 0.14 +/- 0.10)%, and B(B0bar --> D*+ tau nubar) = (1.15 +/- 0.33 +/- 0.04 +/- 0.04)%, where t…
We report a study of semileptonic B decays to P-wave D** mesons. Semileptonic decay to D*_2 meson is observed for the first time and its product branching ratio is measured to be Br(B+ -> anti-D*0_2 l+nu) x Br(anti-D*0_2 -> D- pi+) = 0.22 +- 0.03(stat.) +- 0.04(syst.)%. The result is obtained using the fully reconstructed B tags from a data sample that contains 657 millions BB-bar pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ e- collider.
We present measurements of the semileptonic decays B- --> D0 tau- nubar_tau, B- --> D*0 tau- nubar_tau, B0bar --> D+ tau- nubar_tau, and B0bar --> D*+ tau- nubar_tau, which are sensitive to non--Standard Model amplitudes in certain scenarios. The data sample consists of 232x10^6 Upsilon(4S) --> BBbar decays collected with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II e+e- collider. We select events with a D or D* meson and a light lepton (ell=e or mu) recoiling against a fully reconstructed B meson. We perform a fit to the joint distribution of lepton momentum and missing mass squared to distinguish signal…
We present a measurement of the mass difference Delta m_d for the B0 meson and the statistical power of the b flavor tagging methods used. The measurement uses 90 (1/pb) of data from p p-bar collisions at sqrt[s] = 1.8 TeV collected with the CDF detector. An inclusive lepton trigger is used to collect a large sample of B hadron semileptonic decays. The mass difference Delta m_d is determined from the proper time dependence of the fraction of B hadrons that undergo flavor oscillations. The flavor at decay is inferred from the charge of the lepton from semileptonic B decay. The initial flavor is…
The lifetimes of the B- and B0-bar mesons are measured using the partially reconstructed semileptonic decays B-bar -> D l- nu-bar X, where D is either a D0 or D*+ meson. The data were collected by the CDF detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider during 1992-95 and correspond to about 110 pb-1 of p-bar p collisions at sqrt(s)=1.8 TeV. We measure decay lengths and extract the lifetimes to be tau(B-) = 1.637 +/- 0.058 +0.045 -0.043 ps, tau(B0) = 1.474 +/- 0.039 +0.052 -0.051 ps, and the ratio of the lifetimes to be tau(B-)/tau(B0) = 1.110 +/- 0.056 +0.033 -0.030, where the first uncertainties a…
Tagging efficiencies and purities are estimated for the decay modes H -> b-bbar, H -> tau-taubar and H -> c-cbar of Higgs bosons produced at an s-channel muon collider Higgs factory.
I present an update on the electroweak radiative correction factor to semileptonic tau decays, including a next-to-leading order resummation of large logarithms. My result differs both qualitatively and quantitatively from the one recently obtained by Davier et al. As two consequences, (i) the discrepancy between the predictions for the muon g-2 based on tau decay data and electron-positron annihilation data increases, and (ii) the g-2 prediction based on tau decay data appears to be consistent (within about one standard deviation) with the experimental result from BNL.
We describe a flavor tagging algorithm used in measurements of the CP violation parameter sin2phi_1 at the Belle experiment. Efficiencies and wrong tag fractions are evaluated using flavor-specific B meson decays into hadronic and semileptonic modes. We achieve a total effective efficiency of $ 28.8 +- 0.6 %.
We report on a measurement of the charmless semileptonic B decays, B0->pi^-l^+nu and B0->rho^-l^+nu, based on 140 fb^{-1} data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e^+e^- asymmetric collider. In this analysis, accompanying B mesons are reconstructed from semileptonic B->D^(*)lnu decays, which enables us to detect the signal with high purity and with marginal statistics. We found branching fractions of Br(B0->pi^-l^+nu)=(1.76 \pm 0.28 \pm 0.20 \pm 0.03)10^{-4} and Br(B0->rho^-l^+nu)=(2.54 \pm 0.78 \pm 0.85 \pm 0.30)10^{-4}, where the errors are statistical, experimental systematic, sys…
We consider the process $p p \to t {\bar t} H$. This process can give rise to many signatures of the Higgs boson. The signatures can have electrons, muons and jets. We consider the signatures that have two electrons/muons and jets. Tagging of a tau jet and a bottom jet can help reduce the backgrounds significantly. In particular, we examine the usefulness of the signatures "isolated 2 electrons/muons + a bottom jet + a tau jet", "isolated 2 electrons/muons + 2 tau jets", "isolated 2 electrons/muons + 2 bottom jets + a tau jet", and "isolated 2 electrons/muons + a bottom jet + 2 tau jets". We f…
We report the first direct measurement of the inclusive branching fraction ${\mathcal B}(B_s \rightarrow D_s X)$ via $B_s$ tagging in $e^+e^-\toΥ$(5S) events. Tagging is accomplished through a partial reconstruction of semileptonic decays $B_s \rightarrow D_s X \ell ν$, where $X$ denotes unreconstructed additional hadrons or photons and $\ell$ is an electron or muon. With 121.4 fb$^{-1}$ of data collected at the $Υ$(5S) resonance by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider, we obtain ${\mathcal B}(B_s \rightarrow D_s X)$ = $(60.2 \pm 5.8 \pm 2.3)$\%, where the first …

We obtain a signal with a significance of 3.8 standard deviations including systematics, and measure the branching fraction to be B(B- -> tau- nu_tau-bar) = 1.65+0.38-0.37(stat)+0.35-0.37(syst))*10^-4. Motivated by the recent investigation of neutrinoless $τ$-lepton decays by the CLEO collaboration, we perform a systematic analysis of such decays in a possible new-physics scenario with heavy Dirac/Majorana neutrinos, including heavy-neutrino nondecoupling effects, finite quark masses, and quark as well as meson mixings. We find that $τ$-lepton decays into an electron or muon and a pseudoscalar or vector meson can have branching ratios close to the experimental sensitivity. Numerical estimates show that the predominant decay modes of this kind are $τ^-\to e^-ϕ$, $τ^-\to e^-ρ^0$, and $τ^-\to e…
Based on an 87-fb$^{-1}$ dataset collected by the Babar detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy $B$-Factory, a search for $D^{0}$--$\bar{D}^{0}$ mixing has been made using the semileptonic decay modes $D^{*+} \to π^{+} D^{0}, D^{0} \to K^{(*)}eν$ (+c.c.). The use of these modes allows unambiguous flavor tagging and a combined fit of the $D^{0}$ decay time and $D^{*+}$--$D^{0}$ mass difference ($ΔM$) distributions. The high-statistics sample of unmixed semileptonic $D^{0}$ decays is used to model the $ΔM$ distribution and time-dependence of mixed events directly from the data. Neural networks …
After the recent discovery of a 125 GeV Higgs-like particle at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), it is crucial to examine its role in unitarizing high energy W_LW_L scattering, which may reveal its possible deviation from a Standard Model Higgs. We perform an updated study on WW scattering in the semileptonic channel at the LHC, improved by the recently developed W jet tagging method. The resultant statistical significance of a Strongly-Interacting Light Higgs (SILH) model is about 20% larger than that based on the conventionally "gold-plated" dileptonic channel, while 200% more signal events a…
The Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB energy-asymmetric $e^+ e^-$ collider is a substantial upgrade of the B factory facility, Belle, at the Japanese KEK laboratory. The main operation of SuperKEKB has started in March 2019, and collisions ran until July 2019, achieving a peak luminosity of $5.5\times 10^{33}$ cm$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$. The results presented here were obtained from a subset of collected data of 0.41 fb$^{-1}$. In the poster presented at the conference the first results from studying semileptonic $\textit{B}$-meson decays were shown. The performance of the Full Event Interpretation …
We demonstrate that polarization measurements in exclusive semileptonic B decays are powerful tools for unraveling non-standard model sources of T-violation. Measurements of the transverse polarization of the tau lepton in the B to D tau nu and B to D* tau nu decays probe separately effective scalar and pseudoscalar CP-violating four-Fermi interactions, whereas the D* polarization in the B to D* l nu (l=e,mu) decay is sensitive to an effective right-handed quark current interaction. Two T-odd polarization structures exist involving the D* polarization and they can be isolated and studied separ…
We report a measurement of the branching fraction of B^+ -> tau^+ nu_tau decays using a data sample of 772 x 10^6 BBbar pairs, collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e^+e^- collider. We reconstruct the accompanying B meson in a semileptonic decay and detect the recoiling B candidate in the decay channel B^+ -> tau^+ nu_tau. We obtain a branching fraction of BR(B^+ -> tau^+ nu_tau) = [1.25 +- 0.28 (stat.) +- 0.27 (syst.)] x 10^-4. This result is in good agreement with previous measurements and the expectation from the calculation based on the Stan…
Using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 342 $fb^{-1}$ collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II electron-positron storage ring operating at a center-of-mass energy near 10.58 GeV, we measure ${\cal{B}} (τ^- \to π^- π^- π^+ ν_τ) = (8.83 \pm 0.01 \pm 0.13) %$, ${\cal{B}} (τ^- \to K^- π^- π^+ ν_τ) = (0.273\pm 0.002\pm 0.009)%$, ${\cal{B}} (τ^- \to K^- π^- K^+ ν_τ) = (0.1346\pm 0.0010 \pm 0.0036)%$ and ${\cal{B}} (τ^- \to K^- K^- K^+ ν_τ) = (1.58\pm 0.13 \pm 0.12)\times 10^{-5}$, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. Events where …
We report on a measurement of the $B^0_d$ mixing frequency and the calibration of an opposite-side flavor tagger in the DØexperiment. Various properties associated with the $b$ quark on the opposite side of the reconstructed $B$ meson were combined using a likelihood-ratio method into a single variable with enhanced tagging power. Its performance was tested with data, using a large sample of reconstructed semileptonic $B \to μ\dzero X$ and $B \to μ\dst X$ decays, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of approximately 1 fb$^{-1}$. The events were divided into groups depending on the value o…
We have made a first measurement of the lepton momentum spectrum in a sample of events enriched in neutral B's through a partial reconstruction of B0 --> D*- l+ nu. This spectrum, measured with 2.38 fb**-1 of data collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance by the CLEO II detector, is compared directly to the inclusive lepton spectrum from all Upsilon(4S) events in the same data set. These two spectra are consistent with having the same shape above 1.5 GeV/c. From the two spectra and two other CLEO measurements, we obtain the B0 and B+ semileptonic branching fractions, b0 and b+, their ratio, and t…
We present a measurement of the $\ttbar$ production cross section in $\ppbar$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ TeV using events containing a high transverse momentum electron or muon, three or more jets, and missing transverse energy. Events consistent with $\ttbar$ decay are found by identifying jets containing candidate heavy-flavor semileptonic decays to muons. The measurement uses a CDF Run II data sample corresponding to $2 \mathrm{fb^{-1}}$ of integrated luminosity. Based on 248 candidate events with three or more jets and an expected background of $79.5\pm5.3$ events, we measure a producti…
We present a measurement of the top quark pair production cross section in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV using a data sample corresponding to 1.7/fb of integrated luminosity collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab. We reconstruct ttbar events in the lepton+jets channel. The dominant background is the production of W bosons in association with multiple jets. To suppress this background, we identify electrons from the semileptonic decay of heavy-flavor jets. We measure a production cross section of 7.8 +/- 2.4 (stat) +/- 1.6 (syst) +/- 0.5 (lumi) pb. This is the first measurement…
We report a measurement of the charmless semileptonic decays $B^0 \to π^- / ρ^- \ell^{+} ν$ and $B^+ \to π^0 / ρ^0 \ell^{+} ν$, based on 253 fb$^{-1}$ of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+e^-$ asymmetric collider. In this analysis, the accompanying $B$ meson is reconstructed in the semileptonic mode $B \to D^{(*)} \ell ν$, enabling detection of the signal modes with high purity. We measure the branching fractions ${\cal B}(B^0 \to π^- \ell^+ ν) = (1.48\pm 0.20\pm 0.16\pm 0.04) \times 10^{-4}$, ${\cal B}(B^0 \to ρ^- \ell^+ ν) = (2.07\pm 0.47\pm 0.25\pm 0.14) \times 10^{-4}$…
We consider the leptonic and semileptonic (SL) lepton flavour violating (LFV) decays of the charged leptons in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). The formalism for evaluation of branching fractions for the SL LFV charged-lepton decays with one or two pseudoscalar mesons, or one vector meson in the final state, is given. Previous amplitudes for the SL LFV charged-lepton decays in MSSM are improved, for instance the $γ$-penguin amplitude is corrected to assure the gauge invariance. The decays are studied not only in the model-independent formulation of the theory in the frame of M…
We present measurements of the top-antitop production cross section in b-tagged lepton + jets events from proton-antiproton collisions at 1.96 TeV using the CDF detector at Fermilab. B-jets are tagged with either a secondary vertex algorithm, or a soft lepton tagger that identifies muons from B hadron semileptonic decays. With Tevatron Run II data, we estimate the top-antitop signal fraction in two different ways: by estimating the various background contributions, and by fitting directly the leading jet transverse energy spectrum for the signal and background contributions. A subset of the sa…
We estimate the heavy quark effective theory parameter λ_1 from inclusive semileptonic B-meson decay spectrum. By using recent CLEO double lepton tagging data of B -> X e nu, which shows the lepton momentum as low as 0.6 GeV, we extracted λ_1 \sim -0.58 GeV^2. We also derived \barΛ\sim 0.46 GeV and |V_{cb}| = 0.041 \pm 0.002.
We present analyses of exclusive semileptonic b -> c decays based on data samples collected by the Belle detector at the KEK-B e+ e- asymmetric collider. The first topic are precision measurements of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element |V_{cb}| and the HQET form factor parameters ρ^2, R_1 and R_2 extracted from B^+ -> \bar{D}^{*0} \ell^+ νdecays using untagged Upsilon(4S) events. Additionally, a test of the form factor parametrization is performed. Secondly, measurements of B -> D^* τνand B -> D τνdecays are presented, where the accompanying second B meson is tagged and reconstructed.…
This proceeding summarizes the recent measurements of semileptonic $b\to u$ decays from the Belle experiment. These analyses use the full data set collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance at KEKB accelerator complex with a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s} = 10.58$ GeV, which contains an integrated luminosity of 711 fb$^{-1}$ and corresponds to 772 million $Υ(4S) \to B\bar{B}$ events. In the sector of inclusive decay, the partial branching fraction of $B \to X_{u} \ell ν$ decays and the CKM matrix element $|V_{ub}|$ are measured with hadronic tagging. The first measurement of differential branching…
We search for the rare leptonic decay B+ --> tau+ nu_tau in a sample of 232x10^6 BBbar pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II B-Factory. Signal events are selected by examining the properties of the B meson recoiling against the semileptonic decay B- --> D*0 l- nu_lbar. We find no evidence for a signal and set an upper limit on the branching fraction of BR(B+ --> tau+ nu_tau) < 2.8x10^{-4} at the 90% confidence level. We combine this result with a previous, statistically independent BABAR search for B+ --> tau+ nu_tau to give an upper limit of BR(B+ --> tau+ nu_tau) < 2.6x1…
We measure the branching fraction of B- -> tau- nu_tau-bar using the full Upsilon(4S) data sample containing 772*10^6 BBbar pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. Events with BBbar pairs are tagged by reconstructing one of the B mesons decaying into hadronic final states, and B- -> tau- nu_tau-bar candidates are detected in the recoil. We find evidence for B- -> tau- nu_tau-bar with a significance of 3.0 standard deviations including systematic errors and measure a branching fraction B(B- -> tau- nu_tau-bar) = [0.72^{+0.27}_{-0.25}(stat) +/- 0.11(s…
We report measurements of the charmless semileptonic decays $B^0 \to π^- / ρ^- \ell^{+} ν$ and $B^+ \to π^0 / ρ^0 \ell^{+} ν$, based on a sample of $2.75 \times 10^8$ $B \bar{B}$ events collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+e^-$ asymmetric collider. In this analysis, the accompanying $B$ meson is reconstructed in the semileptonic mode $B \to D^{(*)} \ell ν$, enabling detection of the signal modes with high purity. We measure the branching fractions ${\mathcal B}(B^0 \to π^- \ell^+ ν) = (1.38\pm 0.19\pm 0.14\pm 0.03) \times 10^{-4}$, ${\mathcal B}(B^0 \to ρ^…
A measurement of inclusive semileptonic branching fractions of b hadrons produced in Z decays is presented. An enriched Z -> bbbar sample is obtained with a lifetime flavour-tagging technique. The leptonic events are then selected from this sample, and classified according to their origin, which is determined by comparing the distribution of several kinematic variables using artificial neural network techniques. Using 3.6 million multihadronic events collected with the OPAL detector at energies near the Z resonance, the values BR(b->lX) =(10.83 +- 0.10(stat.) +- 0.20(syst.) +0.20 -0.13(model))…
The Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB energy-asymmetric $e^+e^-$ collider is a substantial upgrade of the B factory facility at the Japanese KEK laboratory. The design luminosity of the machine is $8\times10^{35}\, \mathrm{cm}^{-2}\mathrm{s}^{-1}$ and the Belle II experiment aims to record $50\, \mathrm{ab}^{-1}$ of data, a factor of 50 more than its predecessor. From February to July 2018, SuperKEKB has completed a commissioning run, achieved a peak luminosity of $5.5 \times 10^{33}\, \mathrm{cm}^{-2}\mathrm{s}^{-1}$, and Belle II recorded a data sample of about $0.5\, \mathrm{fb}^{-1}$. I…
New TeV-scale physics processes at the LHC can produce Higgs bosons with substantive transverse Lorentz boost, such that the Higgs's decay products are nominally contained in a single jet. In the case of a light Higgs decaying predominantly to bb, previous studies have shown that these Higgs-jets can be identified by capitalizing on jet substructure techniques. In this work, we explore the possibility of also utilizing the subdominant but very distinctive decay h -> tau tau. To this end, we introduce the concept of a ``ditau-jet,'' or a jet consisting of two semi-collinear taus where one or bo…
We have searched for lepton flavor violating semileptonic tau decays using a data sample of 153.8/fb accumulated with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- collider. For the six decay modes studied, the observed yield is compatible with the estimated background and the following upper limits are set at the 90% confidence level: B(tau- -> e- eta) < 2.3 x 10^-7, B(tau- -> mu- eta) < 1.5 x 10^-7, B(tau- -> e- pi0) < 1.9 x 10^-7, B(tau- -> mu- pi0) < 4.1 x 10^-7, B(tau- -> e- eta') < 10 x 10^-7, and B(tau- -> mu- eta') < 4.7 x 10^-7. These results are 10 to 64 times more restrictive than previous li…
The lifetime of the Bs0 meson is measured using the semileptonic decay Bs0 --> Ds- l+ nu X. The data sample consists of about 110 pb^-1 of pp= collisions at sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV collected by the CDF detector at Fermilab. Four different Ds- decay modes are reconstructed resulting in approximately 600 Ds-l+ signal events. The Bs0 meson lifetime is determined to be tau(Bs0) = (1.36 +- 0.09 +0.06-0.05) ps, where the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The Bs0 meson decay length distribution is examined for a lifetime difference Delta_Gamma/Gamma between the tw…
The following is an overview of the measurements of the CKM matrix elements V_cb and V_ub that are based on detailed studies of semileptonic B decays by the BABAR and Belle Collaborations and recent advances in QCD calculations. In addition, a new and improved measurement of the ratios R(D^(*))= BF(Bbar --> D^(*) tau^- nu_tau)/BF(Bbar -->D^(*) ell^- nu_ell) is presented. Here D^(*) refers to a D or a D^* meson and ell is either e or mu. The results, R(D) = 0.440 +/- 0.058 +/- 0.042 and R(D^*)= 0.332 +/- 0.024 +/- 0.018, exceed the Standard Model expectations by 2.0 s.d. and 2.7 s.d, respective…
Semileptonic decays provide an excellent environment for testing the Standard Model (SM). Violation of lepton universality would be a smoking gun for physics beyond the SM. Using semi-tauonic $B$ decays, LHCb finds a value of $\mathcal{R}(D^*) = \mathcal{B}(\bar{B}^0 \to D^{*+} τ^{-} \barν_τ)/\mathcal{B}(\bar{B}^0 \to D^{*+} μ^{-} \barν_μ) = 0.336 \pm 0.027 \rm{(stat)} \pm 0.030 \rm{(syst)}$, which is 2.1 standard deviations larger than the value expected from the SM. Moreover, the measurement of the $CP$ asymmetry in mixing of $B_s^0$ mesons is highly sensitive to physics beyond the SM. This …
The experimental results on the ratios of branching fractions $\mathcal{R}(D) = {\cal B}(\bar{B} \to D τ^- \barν_τ)/{\cal B}(\bar{B} \to D \ell^- \barν_{\ell})$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^*) = {\cal B}(\bar{B} \to D^* τ^- \barν_τ)/{\cal B}(\bar{B} \to D^* \ell^- \barν_{\ell})$, where $\ell$ denotes an electron or a muon, show a long-standing discrepancy with the Standard Model predictions, and might hint to a violation of lepton flavor universality. We report a new simultaneous measurement of $\mathcal{R}(D)$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^*)$, based on a data sample containing $772 \times 10^6$ $B\bar{B}$ events…
We study a class of realizations of the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model that is motivated by dark matter and Higgs data, and in which the lightest pseudoscalar Higgs boson mass is smaller than twice the bottom quark mass and greater than twice the tau lepton mass. In such scenarios, the lightest pseudoscalar Higgs boson can be copiously produced at the LHC from the decay of heavier superpartners and will dominantly further decay into a pair of tau leptons that is generally boosted. We make use of a boosted object tagging technique designed to tag such a ditau jet, and estimate th…
We perform a global analysis of exclusive hadronic tau decays into one and two mesons using the low-energy limit of the Standard Model Effective Field Theory up to dimension six, assuming left-handed neutrinos. A controlled theoretical input on the Standard Model hadronic form factors, based on chiral symmetry, dispersion relations, data and asymptotic QCD properties, has allowed us to set bounds on the New Physics effective couplings using the present experimental data. Our results highlight the importance of semileptonic $τ$ decays in complementing the traditional low-energy probes, such nuc…
We present a search for the decay B+ -> tau+ nu using 288 inverse femtobarns of data collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BaBar detector at the SLAC PEP-II B-Factory. A sample of events with one reconstructed semileptonic B decay (B- -> D0 l- nu X) is selected, and in the recoil a search for the signal decay mode is performed. The tau is identified in four channels. We measure a branching fraction of BF(B+ -> tau+ nu) = (0.88+0.68 -0.67(stat.) +- 0.11(syst.)) x 10^{-4} and extract an upper limit on the branching fraction, at the 90% confdence level, of 1.8 x 10^{-4}.
We report a measurement of the ratio ${\cal R}(D^*) = {\cal B}(\bar{B}^0 \rightarrow D^{*+} τ^- \barν_τ)/{\cal B}(\bar{B}^0 \rightarrow D^{*+} \ell^- \barν_{\ell})$, where $\ell$ denotes an electron or a muon. The results are based on a data sample containing $772\times10^6$ $B\bar{B}$ pairs recorded at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+ e^-$ collider. We select a sample of $B^0 \bar{B}^0$ pairs by reconstructing both $B$ mesons in semileptonic decays to $D^{*\mp} \ell^{\pm}$. We measure ${\cal R}(D^*)= 0.302 \pm 0.030({\rm stat)} \pm 0.011({\rm syst)}$, which is wi…
Use of semi-leptonic decays has become standard in constraining the Unitarity Triangle. Bearing in mind that precise calculations of these are very challenging, we propose an entirely new approach. In particular the |Vcb| + epsilon_K constraint, which depends extremely sensitively on Vcb in the traditional method, is replaced by the interplay between epsilon_K, BR(B ->tau nu) and Delta M_Bs. It is found that even in this method tensions with the Standard Model persist at the ~1.8 sigma level. Furthermore, improvements on the B -> tau nu branching ratio and on the lattice determination of f_Bs …
Based on the mechanism of neutral meson mixing, we predict the branching fraction of the semileptonic decay of $D_s^+\to π^0 \ell^+ ν_\ell$ ($\ell=e$, $μ$) using recently measured branching fraction of $D_s^+\to ηe^+ν_e$ by BESIII experiment . We also give a formula that can describe the neutral meson mixing of $π^0$, $η$, $η'$ and a pseudoscalar gluonium $G$ in a unified way. The predicted branching fraction of $D_s^+\toπ^0 e^+ν_e$ decay is $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+\toπ^0 e^+ν_e)=(2.65\pm 0.38)\times 10^{-5}$. It is important to search for the decay $D_s^+\to π^0 \ell^+ ν_\ell$ in experiment, in ord…
We present a measurement of the t anti-t production cross section in p anti-p collisions at s**(1/2) = 1.96 TeV which uses events with an inclusive signature of significant missing transverse energy and jets. This is the first measurement which makes no explicit lepton identification requirements, so that sensitivity to W --> tau nu decays is maintained. Heavy flavor jets from top quark decay are identified with a secondary vertex tagging algorithm. From 311 pb-1 of data collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab we measure a production cross section of 5.8 +/- 1.2(stat.)+0.9_-0.7(syst.) p…
We present the results of a search for the rare decays $B\to hν\overlineν$, where $h$ stands for $K^+,\:K^0_{\mathrm{S}},\:K^{\ast +},\:K^{\ast 0},\:π^+,\:π^0,\:ρ^+$ and $ρ^{0}$. The results are obtained with $772\times10^{6}$ $B\overline{B}$ pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+ e^-$ collider. We reconstruct one $B$ meson in a semileptonic decay and require a single $h$ meson but nothing else on the signal side. We observe no significant signal and set upper limits on the branching fractions. The limits set on the $B\to K^0_{\mathrm{S}}ν\overlineν$, $B^0\to K^{*0}ν\overline…
We present a search for the decay B+ -> tau+ nu using 383x10^6 BBbar pairs collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II B-Factory. A sample of events with one reconstructed semileptonic B decay (B- -> D0 l nu X)) is selected, and in the recoil a search for B+ -> tau+ nu is performed. The tau is identified in the following channels: tau+ -> e nu nubar, tau+ -> mu nu nubar, tau+ -> pi+ nu, and tau+ -> pi+ pi0 nu. We measure a branching fraction of B(B+ -> tau+ nu)=(0.9 +- 0.6(stat.) +- 0.1(syst.)) x 10^-4. In the absence of a significant signal, we calculate an upp…
