We study the Mott metal-insulator transition in the Periodic Anderson Model within Dynamical Mean Field Theory (DMFT). Near the quantum transition, we find a non-Fermi liquid metallic state down to a vanishing temperature scale. We identify the origin of the non-Fermi liquid behavior as due to magnetic scattering of the doped carriers by the localized moments. The non-Fermi liquid state can be tuned by either doping or external magnetic field. Our results show that the coupling to spatial magnetic fluctuations (absent in DMFT) is not a prerequisite to realize a non-Fermi liquid scenario for heavy fermion systems.
We forward here the case that the anomalous electron states found in cuprate superconductors and related systems are rooted in a deeply non-classical fermion sign structure. The collapse of Mottness as advocated by Phillips and supported by recent DCA results on the Hubbard model is setting the necessary microscopic conditions. The crucial insight is due to Weng who demonstrated that in the presence of Mottness the fundamental workings of quantum statistics changes and we will elaborate on the effects of this Weng statistics with an emphasis on characterizing these further using numerical meth…
The standard theory of metals, Fermi liquid theory, hinges on the key assumption that although the electrons interact, the low-energy excitation spectrum stands in a one-to-one correspondence with that of a non-interacting system. In the normal state of the copper-oxide high-temperature superconductors, drastic deviations from the Fermi liquid picture obtain, highlighted by a pseudogap, broad spectral features and $T-$ linear resistivity. This article focuses on the series of experiments on the copper-oxide superconductors which reveal that the number of low-energy addition states per electron…
We prove that the Mott insulating state is characterized by a divergence of the electron self energy at well-defined values of momenta in the first Brillouin zone. When particle-hole symmetry is present, the divergence obtains at the momenta of the Fermi surface for the corresponding non-interacting system. Such a divergence gives rise to a surface of zeros (the Luttinger surface) of the single-particle Green function and offers a single unifying principle of Mottness from which pseudogap phenomena, spectral weight transfer, and broad spectral features emerge in doped Mott insulators. We also …
It is a great discovery in physics of the twentieth century that the elementary particles in Nature are dictated by gauge forces, characterized by a nonintegrable phase factor that an elementary particle of charge $q$ acquires from A to B points: $$P \exp\left(i\frac{q}{\hbar c} \int_A^B A_μdx^μ\right)$$ where $A_μ$ is the gauge potential and $P$ stands for path ordering. In a many-body system of strongly correlated electrons, if the so-called Mott gap is opened up by interaction, the corresponding Hilbert space will be fundamentally changed. A novel nonintegrable phase factor known as phase-s…
We review several of the normal state properties of the cuprates in an attempt to establish an organizing principle from which pseudogap phenomena, broad spectral features, $T-$linear resistivity, and spectral weight transfer emerge. We first show that standard field theories with a single critical length scale cannot capture the $T-$linear resistivity as long as the charge carriers are critical. What seems to be missing is an additional length scale, which may or may not be critical. Second, we prove a generalised version of Luttinger's theorem for a Mott insulator. Namely, regardless of the …
We study the physics on the paramagnetic side of the phase diagram of the cobaltates, $Na_{x}CoO_{2}$, with an implementation of cellular dynamical mean field theory (CDMFT) with the non-crossing approximation (NCA) for the one-band Hubbard model on a triangular lattice. At low doping we find that the low energy physics is dominated by a quasi-dispersionless band. At half-filling, we find a metal-insulator transition at $U_{c}=5.6\pm0.15t$ which depends weakly on the cluster size. The onset of the metallic state occurs through the growth of a coherence peak at the chemical potential. Away from…
1T-TaS$_2$ is a charge-density-wave (CDW) compound with a Mott-insulating ground state. The metallic state obtained by doping, substitution or pulsed charge injection is characterized by an emergent CDW domain wall network, while single domain walls can be found in the pristine Mott state. Here we study whether and how the single walls become metallic. Tunneling spectroscopy reveals partial suppression of the Mott gap and the presence of in-gap states strongly localized at the domain-wall sites. Using the real-space dynamical mean field theory description of the strongly correlated quantum-par…
Though most fermionic Mott insulators order at low temperatures, ordering is ancillary to their insulating behaviour. Our emphasis here is on disentangling ordering from the intrinsic strongly correlated physics of a doped half-filled band. To this end, we focus on the 2D Hubbard model. Because the charge gap arises from on-site correlations, we implement a non-perturbative approach which incorporates local physics. Crucial to this method is a self-consistent two-site dynamical cluster expansion which builds in the nearest-neighbour energy scale, $J$. At half-filling, we find that the spectral…
The phase diagram of the high-Tc cuprates is dominated by the Mott insulating phase of the parent compounds. As we approach it from large doping, a standard Fermi-liquid gradually turns into a bad non-Fermi liquid metal, a process which culminates in the pseudogap regime, in which the antinodal region in momentum space acquires a gap before reaching a fully gapped Mott state. Here we show that experiments for electron- and hole-doped BaFe2As2 support an analogous scenario. The doping evolution is dominated by the influence of a Mott insulator that would be realized for half-filled conduction b…
We show that in the Anderson model for a two-dimensional non-Fermi liquid a magnetic instability can lead to the itinerant electron ferromagnetism. The critical temperature and the susceptibility of the paramagnetic phase have been analytically calculated. The usual Fermi behaviour is re-obtained taking the anomalous exponent to be zero.
The vicinity of a Mott insulating phase has constantly been a fertile ground for finding exotic quantum states, most notably the high Tc cuprates and colossal magnetoresistance manganites. The layered transition metal dichalcogenide 1T-TaS2 represents another intriguing example, in which the Mott insulator phase is intimately entangled with a series of complex charge-density-wave (CDW) orders. More interestingly, it has been recently found that 1T-TaS2 undergoes a Mott-insulator-to-superconductor transition induced by high pressure, charge doping, or isovalent substitution. The nature of the M…
We investigate the physics of frustrated 3-leg Hubbard ladders in the band limit, when hopping across the ladder's rungs (t$_{\perp}$) is of the same order as hopping along them (t) much greater than the onsite Coulomb repulsion (U). We show that this model exhibits a striking electron-hole asymmetry close to half-filling: the hole-doped system at low temperatures develops a Resonating Valence Bond (RVB)-like d-wave gap (pseudogap close to ($π$,0)) coinciding with gapless nodal excitations (nodal liquid); in contrast, the electron-doped system is seen to develop a Mott gap at the nodes, whilst…
We apply the recently developed dual fermion algorithm for disordered interacting systems to the Anderson-Hubbard model. This algorithm is compared with dynamical cluster approximation calculations for a one-dimensional system to establish the quality of the approximation in comparison with an established cluster method. We continue with a three-dimensional (3d) system and look at the antiferromagnetic, Mott and Anderson localization transitions. The dual fermion approach leads to quantitative as well as qualitative improvement of the dynamical mean-field results and it allows one to calculate…
We study ground state properties of periodic Anderson model in a two-dimensional square lattice with variational Monte Carlo method. It is shown that there are two different types of quantum phase transition: a conventional antiferromagnetic transition and a Fermi-surface reconstruction which accompanies a change of topology of the Fermi surface. The former is induced by a simple back-folding of the Fermi surface while the latter is induced by localization of $f$ electrons. The mechanism of these transitions and the relation to the recent experiments on Fermi surface are discussed in detail.
We present numerically exact predictions of the periodic and single-impurity Anderson models to address photoemission experiments on heavy Fermion systems. Unlike the single impurity model the lattice model is able to account for the enhanced intensity, dispersion, and apparent weak temperature dependence of the Kondo resonant peak seen in recent controversial photoemission experiments. We present a consistent interpretation of these results as a crossover from the impurity regime to an effective Hubbard model regime described by Nozieres.
We calculate numerically the entanglement entropy of free fermion ground states in one-, two- and three-dimensional Anderson models, and find that it obeys the area law as long as the linear size of the subsystem is sufficiently larger than the mean free path. This result holds in the metallic phase of the three-dimensional Anderson model, where the mean free path is finite although the localization length is infinite. Relation between the present results and earlier ones on area law violation in special one-dimensional models that support metallic phases is discussed.
Studying the finite-U Anderson lattice model in the strong hybridization limit, we find a heavy-fermion spin liquid phase, where both conduction and localized fermions are strongly hybridized to form heavy fermions but this heavy-fermion phase corresponds to a symmetric Mott insulating state owing to the presence of charge gap, resulting from large Hubbard-U interactions in localized fermions. We show that this heavy-fermion spin liquid phase differs from the "fractionalized" Fermi liquid state, where the latter corresponds to a metallic state with a small Fermi surface of conduction electrons…
We review a recently developed method, based on a pseudoparticle representation of correlated electrons, to describe both Fermi liquid and non-Fermi liquid behavior in quantum impurity systems. The role of the projection onto the physical Hilbert space and the impossibility of slave boson condensation are discussed. By summing the leading coherent spin and charge fluctuation processes in a fully self-consistent and gauge invariant way one obtains the correct infrared behavior of the pseudoparticles. The temperature dependence of the spin susceptibility for the single channel and two-channel An…
We establish the correspondence between an extended version of the two-channel Anderson model and a particular type of bi-resonant level model. For certain values of the parameters the new model becomes quadratic. We calculate in closed form the entropy and impurity occupation as functions of temperature and identify the different physical energy scales of the problem. We show how, as the temperature goes to zero, the model approaches a universal line of fixed points non-Fermi liquid in nature.
We study ferromagnetism in the periodic Anderson model with and without a magnetic field by the Gutzwiller theory. We find three ferromagnetic phases: a weak ferromagnetic phase (FM0), a half-metallic phase without Fermi surface for the majority spin (FM1), and a ferromagnetic phase with almost completely polarized f-electrons (FM2). The Fermi surface changes from the large Fermi-surface in the paramagnetic state to the small Fermi-surface in FM2. We also find that the transitions between the ferromagnetic phases can be second-order phase transitions in spite of the absence of symmetry breakin…
We find the dynamical exponent $z = 3$ antiferromagnetic (AF) quantum critical point (QCP) in the heavy fermion quantum transition beyond the standard framework of the Hertz-Moriya-Millis theory with $z = 2$. Based on the U(1) slave-fermion representation of the Anderson lattice model, we show the continuous transition from an antiferromagnetic metal to a heavy fermion Fermi liquid, where the heavy fermion phase consists of two fluids, differentiated from the slave-boson theory. Thermodynamics and transport of the $z = 3$ AF QCP are shown to be consistent with the well known non-Fermi liquid p…
A theory for treating the unconventional non-Fermi liquid temperature dependence of physical quantities, such as the resistivity, in the Pr-based two-channel Anderson impurities system is developed. It is shown that their temperature dependences are essentially the same as those in the pure lattice system except for the case of extremely low concentration of Pr ions that is difficult to realize by a controlled experiments. This result is consistent with recent observations in diluted Pr-1-2-20 system Y$_{1-x}$Pr$_x$Ir$_2$Zn$_{20}$ ($x=0.024,\,0.044,\,0.085,$ and $0.44$) reported in Yamane $et\…
The impurity Green's function Gf in the local non-Fermi liquid state is evaluated by means of the continuous-time quantum Monte Carlo method extended to the multichannel Anderson model. For N=M (where N and M are numbers of spin components and channels, respectively), Gf is expressed as -Im Gf(w+i0) = c - b |w|^{1/2}, and the zero-frequency value c depends only on N (=M). A corresponding impurity self-energy at low frequencies is composed of two parts: a resonance term related to c, and a non-Fermi liquid term proportional to |w|^{1/2}. The characteristic energy scale is discussed in terms of …
Presenting exact solutions for the two dimensional periodic Anderson model with finite and nonzero on-site interaction U>0, we are describing a rigorous non-Fermi liquid phase in normal phase and 2D. This new state emerges in multi-band interacting Fermi systems above half filling, being generated by a flat band effect. The momentum distribution function n_k together with its derivatives of any order is continuous. The state possesses a well defined Fermi energy, but the Fermi momentum concept is not definable, so the Fermi surface in k-space is missing. The state emerges in the vicinity of a …
We present a neutron scattering investigation of Ce1-xYxAl3 as a function of chemical pressure, which induces a transition from heavy-fermion behavior in CeAl3 (TK=5 K) to a mixed-valence state at x=0.5 (TK=150 K). The crossover can be modeled accurately on an absolute intensity scale by an increase in the k-f hybridization, Vkf, within the Anderson impurity model. Surprisingly, the principal effect of the increasing Vkf is not to broaden the low-energy components of the dynamic magnetic susceptibility but to transfer spectral weight to high energy.
It is shown that the Kondo lattice model, for any finite coupling constant J, can be obtained exactly from the periodic Anderson model in an appropriate limit. The mapping allows a direct proof of the 'large' Fermi volume for a nonmagnetic Fermi-liquid state of the Kondo lattice model.
We use the numerical renormalization group method to study an Anderson impurity in a conduction band with the density of states varying as rho(omega) \propto |omega|^r with r>0. We find two different fixed points: a local-moment fixed point with the impurity effectively decoupled from the band and a strong-coupling fixed point with a partially screened impurity spin. The specific heat and the spin-susceptibility show powerlaw behaviour with different exponents in strong-coupling and local-moment regime. We also calculate the impurity spectral function which diverges (vanishes) with |omega|^{-r…
We employ a recently developed computational many-body technique to study for the first time the half-filled Anderson-Hubbard model at finite temperature and arbitrary correlation ($U$) and disorder ($V$) strengths. Interestingly, the narrow zero temperature metallic range induced by disorder from the Mott insulator expands with increasing temperature in a manner resembling a quantum critical point. Our study of the resistivity temperature scaling $T^α$ for this metal reveals non Fermi liquid characteristics. Moreover, a continuous dependence of $α$ on $U$ and $V$ from linear to nearly quadrat…
We study a generalized Anderson model that mixes two localized configurations --one formed by two degenerate doublets and the other by a triplet with single-ion anisotropy $DS_z^2$-- by means of two degenerate conduction channels. The model has been derived for a single Ni impurity embedded into an O-doped Au chain. Using the numerical renormalization group, we find a topological quantum phase transition, at a finite value $D_c,$ between two regular Fermi liquid phases of high (low) conductance and topological number $2 I_L/π= 0$ (-1) for $D < D_c$ ($D > D_c$), where $I_L$ is the well-known Lu…
We show how the electron gas methods of Luttinger, Ward and Nozières can be applied to the infinite U Anderson impurity model within a Schwinger boson treatment. Working to all orders in a 1/N expansion, we show how the Friedel Langreth relationship, the Yamada-Yosida-Yoshimori and the Shiba-Korringa relations can be derived, under the assumption that the spinon and holon fields are gapped. One of the remarkable features of this treatment, is that the Landau amplitudes depend on the exchange of low energy virtual spinons and holons. We end the paper with a discussion on the extension of our ap…
We investigate the two-orbital periodic Anderson model, where the local orbital fluctuations of f-electrons couple with a two-fold degenerate Jahn-Teller phonon, by using the dynamical mean-field theory. It is found that the heavy fermion state caused by the Coulomb interaction between f-electrons U is largely enhanced due to the electron-phonon coupling g, in contrast to the case with the single-orbital periodic Anderson model where the effects of U and g compete to each other. In the heavy fermion state for large $U$ and g, both the orbital and lattice fluctuations are enhanced, while the ch…
We have studied the one-dimensional periodic, symmetric Anderson model at half filling in the presence of disorder using finite-temperature quantum Monte Carlo techniques. We have examined for the first time the disorder both in hybridization between the local $f$-orbitals and the conduction electrons and in the local $f$-site energy, using a uniform distribution of width $Δ$. The $f$-orbital local magnetic moment, the uniform magnetic susceptibility, the charge compressibility, and the nearest-neighbor magnetic correlation function have been calculated as a function of the disorder distributi…
We use the numerical renormalization group method to study the O(3)-symmetric version of the impurity Anderson model of Coleman and Schofield. This model is of general interest because it displays both Fermi liquid and non-Fermi liquid behaviour, and in the large $U$ limit can be related to the compactified two channel Kondo model of Coleman, Ioffe and Tsvelik. We calculate the thermodynamics for a parameter range which covers the full range of behaviour of the model. We find a non-Fermi liquid fixed point in the isotropic case which is unstable with respect to channel anisotropy.
We discuss the two-channel Kondo problem with a pseudogap density of states, $ρ(\w)\propto|\w|^r$, of the bath fermions. Combining both analytical and numerical renormalization group techniques, we characterize the impurity phases and quantum phase transitions of the relevant Kondo and Anderson models. The line of stable points, corresponding to the overscreened non-Fermi liquid behavior of the metallic $r=0$ case, is replaced by a stable particle-hole symmetric intermediate-coupling fixed point for $0<r<\rmax\approx0.23$. For $r>\rmax$, this non-Fermi liquid phase disappears, and instead a cr…
Here we analyze the divergences of the irreducible vertex function in dynamical mean field theory, which may indicate either a non-physical breakdown of the perturbation theory or a response to some physical phenomenon. To investigate this question, we construct a quasiparticle vertex from the diverging irreducible vertex functions. This vertex describes the scattering between quasiparticles and quasiholes in a Fermi liquid. We show that the quasparticle vertex \textit{does not} diverge in the charge channel, wherein the irreducible vertex \textit{does} diverge; and we show that the quasiparti…
We present a theory of the DC electron transport in insulators near Anderson-Mott transitions under the influence of coexisting electron correlation and randomness. At sufficiently low temperatures, the DC electron transport in Anderson-Mott insulators is determined by the single-particle density of states (DOS) near the Fermi energy. Anderson insulators, caused by randomness, are characterized by a nonzero DOS at the Fermi energy. However, recently, the authors proposed that coexisting randomness and short-ranged interaction in insulators open a soft Hubbard gap in the DOS, and the DOS vanish…
We address the phenomenon of critical Kondo destruction in pseudogap Bose-Fermi Anderson and Kondo quantum impurity models. These models describe a localized level coupled both to a fermionic bath having a density of states that vanishes like |ε|^r at the Fermi energy (ε=0) and, via one component of the impurity spin, to a bosonic bath having a sub-Ohmic spectral density proportional to |ω|^s. Each bath is capable by itself of suppressing the Kondo effect at a continuous quantum phase transition. We study the interplay between these two mechanisms for Kondo destruction using continuous-time qu…
CeNi$_{9}$Ge$_4$ exhibits unusual non-Fermi liquid behavior with the largest ever recorded value of the electronic specific heat $ΔC/T \cong 5.5$ JK$^{-2}$mol$^{-1}$ without showing any evidence of magnetic order. Specific heat measurements show that the logarithmic increase of the Sommerfeld coefficient flattens off below 200 mK. In marked contrast, the local susceptibility $Δχ$ levels off well above 200 mK and already becomes constant below 1 K. Furthermore, the entropy reaches 2$R$ln2 below 20 K corresponding to a four level system. An analysis of $C$ and $χ$ was performed in terms of an $S…
Recent experiments measuring the emission of exciton recombination in a self-organized single quantum dot (QD) have revealed that novel effects occur when the wetting layer surrounding the QD becomes filled with electrons, because the resulting Fermi sea can hybridize with the local electron levels on the dot. Motivated by these experiments, we study an extended Anderson model, which describes a local conduction band level coupled to a Fermi sea, but also includes a local valence band level. We are interested, in particular, on how many-body correlations resulting from the presence of the Ferm…
We investigate the competition of the Kondo and the RKKY interactions in heavy fermion systems. We solve a periodic Anderson model using Extended Dynamical Mean Field Theory (EDMFT) with QMC. We monitor simultaneously the evolution of the electronic and magnetic properties. As the RKKY coupling increases the heavy fermion quasiparticle unbinds and a local moment forms. At a critical RKKY coupling there is an onset of magnetic order. Within EDMFT the two transitions occur at different points and the disapparence of the magnetism is not described by a local quantum critical point.
Thermodynamic properties are presented for four magnetic impurity models describing delocalized fermions scattering from a localized orbital at an energy-dependent rate $Γ(ε)$ which vanishes precisely at the Fermi level, $ε= 0$. Specifically, it is assumed that for small $|ε|$, $Γ(ε)\propto|ε|^r$ with $r>0$. The cases $r=1$ and $r=2$ describe dilute magnetic impurities in unconventional superconductors, ``flux phases'' of the two-dimensional electron gas, and zero-gap semiconductors. For the nondegenerate Anderson model, the depression of the low-energy scattering rate suppresses mixed valence…
We analyze non-Fermi liquid (NFL) properties along a line of critical points in a two-channel Anderson model with phonon-assisted hybridizations. We succeed in identifying hidden nonmagnetic SO(5) degrees of freedom for valence-fluctuation regime and analyze the model on the basis of boundary conformal field theory. We find that the NFL spectra along the critical line, which is the same as those in the two-channel Kondo model, can be alternatively derived by a fusion in the nonmagnetic SO(5) sector. The leading irrelevant operators near the NFL fixed points vary as a function of Coulomb repuls…
The pseudogap Anderson impurity model provides a classic example of an essentially local quantum phase transition. Here we study its single-particle dynamics in the vicinity of the symmetric quantum critical point (QCP) separating generalized Fermi liquid and local moment phases, via the local moment approach. Both phases are shown to be characterized by a low-energy scale that vanishes at the QCP; and the universal scaling spectra, on all energy scales, are obtained analytically. The spectrum precisely at the QCP is also obtained; its form showing clearly the non-Fermi liquid, interacting nat…
In this paper a recently developed projector-based renormalization method (PRM) for many-particle Hamiltonians is applied to the periodic Anderson model (PAM) with the aim to describe heavy Fermion behavior. In this method high-energetic excitation operators instead of high energetic states are eliminated. We arrive at an effective Hamiltonian for a quasi-free system which consists of two non-interacting heavy-quasiparticle bands. The resulting renormalization equations for the parameters of the Hamiltonian are valid for large as well as small degeneracy $ν_f$ of the angular momentum. An expan…
In quantum critical heavy fermion systems, local moments are coupled to both collective spin fluctuations and conduction electrons. As such, the Bose-Fermi Kondo model, describing the coupling of a local moment to both a bosonic and a fermionic bath, has been of extensive interest. For the model in the presence of SU(2) spin rotational symmetry, questions have been raised about its phase diagram. Here we develop a version of continuous-time Quantum Monte Carlo (CT-QMC) method suitable for addressing this issue; this procedure can reach sufficiently low temperatures while preserving the SU(2) s…
We theoretically investigate electronic states and physical properties in a two-channel Anderson lattice model to understand the non-Fermi liquid behaviors observed in PrV$_2$Al$_{20}$ and PrIr$_2$Zn$_{20}$ whose ground state of the crystalline electric field for local $f$-electron is the $Γ_3$ non-Kramers doublet of $f^2$-configuration and excited state is the $Γ_7$ Kramers doublet of $f^1$-configuration. We use the expansion from the limit of large degeneracy $N$ of the ground state ($1/N$-expansion), with $N$ being the spin-orbital degeneracy. Inclusion of the self-energy of the conduction …
We consider the symmetric single-impurity Anderson model in the presence of pairing fluctuations. In the isotropic limit, the degrees of freedom of the local impurity are separated into hybridizing and non-hybridizing modes. The self-energy for the hybridizing modes can be obtained exactly, leading to two subbands centered at $\pm U/2$. For the non-hybridizing modes, the second order perturbation yields a singular resonance of the marginal Fermi liquid form. By multiplicative renomalization, the self-energy is derived exactly, showing the resonance is pinned at the Fermi level, while its stren…
Monte Carlo-maximum entropy calculations of the conductivity of the infinite-dimensional periodic Anderson model are presented. We show that the optical conductivity displays anomalies associated with the exhaustion of conduction-band states near the Fermi energy including a Drude weight which rises with temperature, with weight transferred from a temperature and doping-dependent mid-IR peak and a low-frequency incoherent contribution. Both the Drude and mid-IR peaks persist up to very high temperatures. The resistivity displays a non-universal peak and two other regions associated with impuri…
The Kondo resonance at the Fermi level is well-established for the electronic structure of Ce (f1 electron) and Yb (f1 hole) based systems. In this work, we report complementary experimental and theoretical studies on the Kondo resonance in Pr-based f2 system, PrTi2Al20. Using Pr 3d-4f resonant photoemission spectroscopy and single impurity Anderson model (SIAM) calculations including the full multiplets of Pr ions, we show that an f2 system can also give rise to a Kondo resonance at the Fermi level. The Kondo resonance peak is experimentally observed through a final-state-multiplet dependent …
The Periodic Anderson Model (PAM) is widely studied to understand strong correlation physics and especially the competition of antiferromagnetism and singlet formation. Quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) studies have focused both on issues such as the nature of screening and locating the quantum critical point (QCP) at zero temperature and also on possible experimental connections to phenomena ranging from the Cerium volume collapse to the relation of the magnetic susceptibility and Knight shift in heavy fermions. In this paper we extend QMC work to lattices in which the conduction electron sites can h…
We apply the extended (statistically-consistent, SGA) Gutzwiller-type approach to the periodic Anderson model (PAM) in an applied magnetic field and in the strong correlation limit. The finite-U corrections are included systematically by transforming PAM into the form with Kondo-type interaction and residual hybridization, appearing both at the same time. This effective Hamiltonian represents the essence of \textit{Anderson-Kondo lattice model}. We show that in ferromagnetic phases the low-energy single-particle states are strongly affected by the presence of the applied magnetic field. We als…
We study by NRG the spectral properties of a two-orbital Anderson impurity model in the presence of an exchange splitting which follows either regular or inverted Hund's rules. The phase diagram contains a non-Fermi liquid fixed point separating a screened phase, where conventional Kondo effect occurs, from an unscreened one, where the exchange-splitting takes care of quenching the impurity degrees of freedom. On the Kondo screened side close to this fixed point the impurity density of states shows a narrow Kondo-peak on top of a broader resonance. This narrow peak transforms in the unscreened…
We study entanglement Hamiltonian (EH) associated with the reduced density matrix of free fermion models in delocalized-localized Anderson phase transition. We show numerically that the structure of the EH matrix differentiates the delocalized from the localizedphase. In the delocalized phase, EH becomes a long-range Hamiltonian but is short-range in the localized phase, no matter what the configuration of the system's Hamiltonian is (whether it is long or short range). With this view, we introduce the entanglement conductance (EC), which quantifies how much EH is long-range and propose it as …
We present experimental results of electrical resistivity, Hall coefficient, magnetic susceptibility, and specific heat for single crystals of Ce-based intervalent compound CeNiSi$_2$. The results show similar behaviors observed in Yb-based intervalent compounds and support recent thoery of the Anderson lattice, in which the Fermi-liquid coherence is gloval over the whole lattice. There is a low-temperature scale $T_{coh} \sim$ 50 K for the onset of Fermi-liquid coherence, in addition to a high-temperature scale $T_K^* \sim$ 150 K for the Kondo-lattice condensation. Therefore, we conclude that…
