We apply the graph complex method to vector fields depending naturally on a set of vector fields and a linear symmetric connection. We characterize all possible systems of generators for such vector-field valued operators including the classical ones given by normal tensors and covariant derivatives. We also describe the size of the space of such operators and prove the existence of an `ideal' basis consisting of operators with given leading terms which satisfy the (generalized) Bianchi-Ricci identities without the correction terms.
We introduce the new notion of Bianchi-convex sets, a generalization of convex sets of algebraic curvature tensors inspired by the second Bianchi identity. It turns out that Hamilton's maximum principle for the Ricci flow can be generalized for Bianchi-convex sets.
This paper is a continuation of arXiv:0809.1158, dealing with a general, not-necessarily torsion-free, connection. It characterizes all possible systems of generators for vector-field valued operators that depend naturally on a set of vector fields and a linear connection, describes the size of the space of such operators and proves the existence of an `ideal' basis consisting of operators with given leading terms which satisfy the (generalized) Bianchi-Ricci identities without corrections.
In this paper we describe the local Ricci and Bianchi identities for an h-normal N-linear connection DΓ(N) on the dual 1-jet space J^{1*}(T,M). To reach this aim, we firstly give the expressions of the local distinguished (d-) adapted components of torsion and curvature tensors produced by DΓ(N), and then we analyze their attached local Ricci identities. The derived deflection d-tensor identities are also presented. Finally, we expose the local expressions of the Bianchi identities (in the particular case of an h-normal N-linear connection of Cartan type), which geometrically connect the local…
In this work, we are going to find sufficient conditions on the initial triaxial Bianchi IX metric on some 4-dimensional manifolds foliated by homogeneous S3 for a Type I singularity to occur when it is flowed under the Ricci flow. This work generalises the study on rotationally symmetric manifolds done by Angenent and Isenberg as well as the work of Isenberg, Knopf, and Sesum, in which they introduced some ansatz for the problem setup.
The aim of this paper is to describe the local Bianchi identities for an $h$-normal $Γ$-linear connection of Cartan type $\nablaΓ$ on the first-order jet space $J^1(R,M)$. In this direction, we present the local expressions of the adapted components of the torsion and curvature d-tensors produced by $\nablaΓ$ and we give the general local expressions of Bianchi identities which connect these d-torsions and d-curvatures.
By resorting to Noether's Second Theorem, we relate the generalized Bianchi identities for Lagrangian field theories on gauge-natural bundles with the kernel of the associated gauge-natural Jacobi morphism. A suitable definition of the curvature of gauge-natural variational principles can be consequently formulated in terms of the Hamiltonian connection canonically associated with a generalized Lagrangian obtained by contracting field equations.
The Bianchi identities for bosonic fluxes in supergravity can receive higher derivative quantum and string corrections, the most well known being that of Heterotic theory $d H = \tfrac{1}{4}α'(\text{tr } F^2 - \text{tr } R^2)$. Less studied are the modifications at order $R^4$ that may arise, for example, in the Bianchi identity for the seven-form flux of M theory compactifications. We argue that such corrections appear to be incompatible with the exceptional generalised geometry description of the lower order supergravity, and seem to imply a gauge algebra for the bosonic potentials that cann…
The purpose of this paper is to revisit the Bianchi identities existing for the Riemann and Weyl tensors in the combined framework of the formal theory of systems of partial differential equations (Spencer cohomology, differential systems, formal integrability) and Algebraic Analysis (homological algebra, differential modules, duality). In particular, we prove that the n 2 (n 2 -- 1)(n -- 2)/24 generating Bianchi identities for the Riemann tensor are first order and can be easily described by means of the Spencer cohomology of the first order Killing symbol in arbitrary dimension n $\ge$ 2. Si…
We derive both {\em local} and {\em global} generalized {\em Bianchi identities} for classical Lagrangian field theories on gauge-natural bundles. We show that globally defined generalized Bianchi identities can be found without the {\em a priori} introduction of a connection. The proof is based on a {\em global} decomposition of the {\em variational Lie derivative} of the generalized Euler--Lagrange morphism and the representation of the corresponding generalized Jacobi morphism on gauge-natural bundles. In particular, we show that {\em within} a gauge-natural invariant Lagrangian variational…
The differential geometry of $3$-dimensional Bianchi, Cartan and Vranceanu ($BCV$) spaces is well known. We introduce the extended Bianchi, Cartan and Vranceanu ($EBCV$) spaces as a natural seven dimensional generalization of $BCV$ spaces and study some of their main geometric properties, such as the Levi-Civita connection, Ricci curvatures, Killing fields and geodesics.
It is the purpose of the present paper to outline an introduction in theory of embeddings in the manifold Osc^{2}M. First, we recall the notion of 2-osculator bundle. The second section is dedicated to the notion of submanifold in the total space of the 2-osculator bundle, the manifold Osc^{2}M. A moving frame is constructed. The induced N-linear connections and the relative covariant derivatives are discussed in third and fourth sections. The Ricci identities of the Liouville d-vector fields are present in the last section.

The Ricci flow is a parabolic evolution equation in the space of Riemannian metrics of a smooth manifold. To some extent, Einstein equations give rise to a similar hyperbolic evolution. The present text is an introductory exposition to Bianchi-Ricci and Bianchi-Einstein flows, that is, the restricted finitely dimensional dynamical systems, obtained by considering homogeneous metrics.
Let $λ(t)$ be the first eigenvalue of $-Δ+aR\, (a>0)$ under the backward Ricci flow on locally homogeneous 3-manifolds, where $R$ is the scalar curvature. In the Bianchi case, we get the upper and lower bounds of $λ(t)$. In particular, we show that when the the backward Ricci flow converges to a sub-Riemannian geometry after a proper re-scaling, $λ^{+}(t)$ approaches zero, where $λ^{+}(t)=\max\{λ(t),0\}$.
Starting with minimal requirements from the physical experience with higher gauge theories, i.e. gauge theories for a tower of differential forms of different form degrees, we discover that all the structural identities governing such theories can be concisely recombined into a so-called Q-structure or, equivalently, a Lie infinity algebroid. This has many technical and conceptual advantages: Complicated higher bundles become just bundles in the category of Q-manifolds in this approach (the many structural identities being encoded in the one operator Q squaring to zero), gauge transformations …
We use the exterior and composition products of double forms together with the alternating operator to reformulate Pontrjagin classes and all Pontrjagin numbers in terms of the Riemannian curvature. We show that the alternating operator is obtained by a succession of applications of the first Bianchi sum and we prove some useful identities relating the previous four operations on double forms. As an application, we prove that for a $k$-conformally flat manifold of dimension $n\geq 4k$, the Pontrjagin classes $P_i$ vanish for any $i\geq k$. Finally, we study the equality case in an inequality o…
In this paper, we study the following conjecture of Hamilton: Any compact gradient shrinking Ricci soliton with positive curvature operator must be Einstein. We first derive several identities. Then we show that the conjecture is true under an additional condition. Furthermore, such a soliton must be of constant curvature.
The aim of this paper is to study the local components of the relativistic time dependent d-linear connections, d-torsions, d-curvatures and deflection d-tensors with respect to an adapted basis on the 1-jet space $J^{1}(R,M)$. The Ricci identities, together with their corresponding identities of deflection d-tensors, are also given.
The importance of Einstein's geometrization philosophy, as an alternative to the least action principle, in constructing general relativity (GR), is illuminated. The role of differential identities in this philosophy is clarified. The use of Bianchi identity to write the field equations of GR is shown. Another similar identity in the absolute parallelism geometry is given. A more general differential identity in the parameterized absolute parallelism geometry is derived. Comparison and interrelationships between the above mentioned identities and their role in constructing field theories are d…
This paper derives new identities for the Weyl tensor on a gradient Ricci soliton, particularly in dimension four. First, we prove a Bochner-Weitzenböck type formula for the norm of the self-dual Weyl tensor and discuss its applications, including connections between geometry and topology. In the second part, we are concerned with the interaction of different components of Riemannian curvature and (gradient and Hessian of) the soliton potential function. The Weyl tensor arises naturally in these investigations. Applications here are rigidity results.
Connections are an important tool of differential geometry. This paper investigates their definition and structure in the abstract setting of tangent categories. At this level of abstraction we derive several classically important results about connections, including the Bianchi identities, identities for curvature and torsion, almost complex structure, and parallel transport.
Given a smooth positive measure $μ$ on a complete Hermitian manifold with Ricci curvature bounded from below, we prove a pointwise Agmon-type bound for the corresponding Bergman kernel, under rather general conditions involving the coercivity of an associated complex Laplacian on $(0,1)$-forms. Thanks to an appropriate version of the Bochner--Kodaira--Nakano basic identity, we can give explicit geometric sufficient conditions for such coercivity to hold. Our results extend several known bounds in the literature to the case in which the manifold is neither assumed to be Kähler nor of "bounded g…
In this text we introduce the torsion of spinor connections. In terms of the torsion we give conditions on a spinor connection to produce Killing vector fields. We relate the Bianchi type identities for the torsion of spinor connections with Jacobi identities for vector fields on supermanifolds. Furthermore, we discuss applications of this notion of torsion.
Torsions, curvatures, structure equations and Bianchi identities for locally anisotropic superspaces (containing as particular cases different supersymmetric extensions and prolongations of Riemann, Finsler, Lagrange and Kaluza--Klein spaces) are investigated.
In this paper we discuss curvature tensors in the context of Absolute Parallelism geometry. Different curvature tensors are expressed in a compact form in terms of the torsion tensor of the canonical connection. Using the Bianchi identities some other identities are derived from the expressions obtained. These identities, in turn, are used to reveal some of the properties satisfied by an intriguing fourth order tensor which we refer to as Wanas tensor. A further condition on the canonical connection is imposed, assuming it is semi-symmetric. The formulae thus obtained, together with other form…
