We study the dynamical response of a two-dimensional Ising model subject to a square-wave oscillating external field. In contrast to earlier studies, the system evolves under a so-called soft Glauber dynamic [P.A. Rikvold and M. Kolesik, J. Phys. A: Math. Gen. 35, L117 (2002)], for which both nucleation and interface propagation are slower and the interfaces smoother than for the standard Glauber dynamic. We choose the temperature and magnitude of the external field such that the metastable decay of the system following field reversal occurs through nucleation and growth of many droplets of the stable phase, i.e., the multidroplet regime. Using kinetic Monte Carlo simulations, we find that the system undergoes a nonequilibrium phase transition, in which the symmetry-broken dynamic phase corresponds to an asymmetric stationary limit cycle for the time-dependent magnetization. The critical point is located where the half-period of the external field is approximately equal to the metastable lifetime of the system. We employ finite-size scaling analysis to investigate the characteristics of this dynamical phase transition. The critical exponents and the fixed-point value of the fourth-order cumulant are found to be consistent with the universality class of the two-dimensional equilibrium Ising model. As this universality class has previously been established for the same nonequilibrium model evolving under the standard Glauber dynamic, our results indicate that this far-from-equilibrium phase transition is universal with respect to the choice of the stochastic dynamics.
We study hysteresis for a two-dimensional, spin-1/2, nearest-neighbor, kinetic Ising ferromagnet in an oscillating field, using Monte Carlo simulations. The period-averaged magnetization is the order parameter for a proposed dynamic phase transition (DPT). To quantify the nature of this transition, we present the first finite-size scaling study of the DPT for this model. Evidence of a diverging correlation length is given, and we provide estimates of the transition frequency and the critical indices $β$, $γ$ and $ν$.
We study the two-dimensional kinetic Ising model below its equilibrium critical temperature, subject to a square-wave oscillating external field. We focus on the multi-droplet regime where the metastable phase decays through nucleation and growth of many droplets of the stable phase. At a critical frequency, the system undergoes a genuine non-equilibrium phase transition, in which the symmetry-broken phase corresponds to an asymmetric stationary limit cycle for the time-dependent magnetization. We investigate the universal aspects of this dynamic phase transition at various temperatures and fi…
Ising models obeying Glauber dynamics in a temporally oscillating magnetic field are analyzed. In the context of stochastic resonance, the response in the magnetization is calculated by means of both a mean-field theory with linear-response approximation, and the time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau equation. Analytic results for the temperature and frequency dependent response, including the resonance temperature, compare favorably with simulation data.
Using numerical simulations we investigate the properties of the dynamic phase transition that is encountered in the three-dimensional Ising model subjected to a periodically oscillating magnetic field. The values of the critical exponents are determined through finite-size scaling. Our results show that the studied non-equilibrium phase transition belongs to the universality class of the equilibrium three-dimensional Ising model.
Dynamic behavior of a site diluted Ising ferromagnet in the presence of periodically oscillating magnetic field has been analyzed by means of the effective field theory (EFT). Dynamic equation of motion have been solved for a honeycomb lattice ($z=3$) with the help of a Glauber type stochastic process. The global phase diagrams and the variation of the corresponding dynamic order parameter as a function of the Hamiltonian parameters and temperature has been investigated in detail and it has been shown that the system exhibits reentrant phenomena, as well as a dynamic tricritical point which di…
We study the surface phase diagram of the three-dimensional kinetic Ising model below the equilibrium critical point subjected to a periodically oscillating magnetic field. Changing the surface interaction strength as well as the period of the external field, we obtain a non-equilibrium surface phase diagram that in parts strongly resembles the corresponding equilibrium phase diagram, with an ordinary transition, an extraordinary transition and a surface transition. These three lines meet at a special transition point. For weak surface couplings, however, the surface does not order. These resu…
The dynamical responses of Ising metamagnet (layered antiferromagnet) in the presence of a sinusoidally oscillating magnetic field are studied by Monte Carlo simulation. The time average staggered magnetisation plays the role of dynamic order parameter. A dynamical phase transition was observed and a phase diagram was plotted in the plane formed by field amplitude and temperature. The dynamical phase boundary is observed to shrink inward as the relative antiferromagnetic strength decreases. The results are compared with that obtained from pure ferromagnetic system. The shape of dynamic phase b…
We prove the validity of multiparameter universality for the exact critical bulk correlation functions of the anisotropic square-lattice and triangular-lattice Ising models on the basis of the exact scaling structure of the correlation function of the two-dimensional anisotropic scalar $φ^4$ model with four nonuniversal parameters. The correlation functions exhibit a directional nonuniversality due to principal axes whose orientation depends on microscopic details. In particular we determine the exact anisotropy matrices governing the bulk and finite-size critical behavior of the $φ^4$ and Isi…
Response of pure Ising systems to time-dependent external magnetic fields, like pulsed and oscillating fields, are discussed and compared here. Because of the two time scales involved, namely the thermodynamic relaxation time of the system and the pulse width or the time period of the external field, dynamically broken symmetric phases appear spontaneously when both become comparable. A particularly simple case is that of an Ising ferromagnet below its static critical temperature, when it is perturbed for a short duration by a pulsed magnetic field competing with the existing order in the syst…
We exhibit a one to one correspondence between some universal probabilistic properties of the ordering coordinate of one-dimensional Ising-like models and a class of continuous time random walks. This correspondence provides an new qualitative picture of the properties of the ordering coordinate of the Ising model.
We study the dynamic phase transition properties for the mixed spin-(1/2, 1) Ising model on a square lattice under a time-dependent magnetic field by means the effective-field theory (EFT) based on the Glauber dynamics. We present the dynamic phase diagrams in the reduced magnetic field amplitude and reduced temperature plane and find that the phase diagrams exhibit the dynamic tricitical behavior, the multicritical and zero-temperature critical points as well as reentrant behavior. We also investigate the influence of the frequency (w) and observe that for small values of w the mixed phase di…
The universality class of thermally diluted Ising systems, in which the realization of the disposition of magnetic atoms and vacancies is taken from the local distribution of spins in the pure original Ising model at criticality, is investigated by finite size scaling techniques using the Monte Carlo method. We find that the critical temperature, the critical exponents and therefore the universality class of these thermally diluted Ising systems depart markedly from the ones of short range correlated disordered systems. Our results agree fairly well with theoretical predictions previously made…
We study the effects of next-nearest neighbor (NNN) interactions in the two-dimensional ferromagnetic kinetic Ising model exposed to an oscillating field. By tuning the interaction ratio (p = JNNN/JNN) of the NNN (JNNN) to the nearest-neighbor (NN) interaction (JNN) we find that the model undergoes a transition from a regime in which the dynamic order parameter Q is equal to zero to a phase in which Q is not equal to zero. From our studies we conclude that the model can exhibit an interaction induced transition from a deterministic to a stochastic state. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the sy…
We study the critical behavior of the $d=3$ Ising model with bond randomness through extensive Monte Carlo simulations and finite-size scaling techniques. Our results indicate that the critical behavior of the random-bond model is governed by the same universality class as the site- and bond-diluted models, clearly distinct from that of the pure model, thus providing a complete set of universality in disordered systems.
The magnetic properties of a nonequilibrium spin-1/2 cylindrical Ising nanowire system with core/shell in an oscillating magnetic field are studied by using a mean-field approach based on the Glauber-type stochastic dynamics (DMFT). We employ the Glaubertype stochastic dynamics to construct set of the coupled mean-field dynamic equations. First, we study the temperature dependence of the dynamic order parameters to characterize the nature of the phase transitions and to obtain the dynamic phase transition points. Then, we investigate the temperature dependence of the total magnetization to fin…
Nonequilibrium phase transition properties of a mixed Ising ferrimagnetic model consisting of spin-1/2 and spin-3/2 on a square lattice under the existence of a time dependent oscillating magnetic field have been investigated by making use of Monte Carlo simulations with single-spin flip Metropolis algorithm. A complete picture of dynamic phase boundary and magnetization profiles have been illustrated and the conditions of a dynamic compensation behavior have been discussed in detail. According to our simulation results, the considered system does not point out a dynamic compensation behavior,…
The partition function with boundary conditions for various two-dimensional Ising models is examined and previously unobserved properties of conformal invariance and universality are established numerically.
We show using scaling arguments and Monte Carlo simulations that a class of binary interacting models of opinion evolution belong to the Ising universality class in presence of an annealed noise term of finite amplitude. While the zero noise limit is known to show an active-absorbing transition, addition of annealed noise induces a continuous order-disorder transition with Ising universality class in the infinite-range (mean field) limit of the models.
We report on large-scale Wang-Landau Monte Carlo simulations of the critical behavior of two spin models in two- (2d) and three-dimensions (3d), namely the 2d random-bond Ising model and the pure 3d Blume-Capel model at zero crystal-field coupling. The numerical data we obtain and the relevant finite-size scaling analysis provide clear answers regarding the universality aspects of both models. In particular, for the random-bond case of the 2d Ising model the theoretically predicted strong universality's hypothesis is verified, whereas for the second-order regime of the Blume-Capel model, the e…
The crossover of a pure (undiluted) Ising system (spin per site probability p=1) to a diluted Ising system (spin per site probability p<0.8) is studied by means of Monte Carlo calculations with p ranging between 1 and 0.8 at intervals of 0.025. The evolution of the self averaging is analyzed by direct determination of the normalized square widths for magnetization and susceptibility as a function of p. We find a monotonous and smooth evolution from the pure to the randomly diluted universality class. The p-dependent transition is found to be independent of the size (L). This property is very c…
Chen and Dohm predicted theoretically in 2004 that the widely believed universality principle is violated in the Ising model on the simple cubic lattice with more than only six nearest neighbours. Schulte and Drope by Monte Carlo simulations found such violation, but not in the predicted direction. Selke and Shchur tested the square lattice. Here we check only this universality for the susceptibility ratio near the critical point. For this purpose we study first the standard Ising model on a simple cubic lattice with six nearest neighbours, then with six nearest and twelve next-nearest neighbo…
In the vicinity of boundaries the bulk universality class of critical phenomena splits into several boundary universality classes, depending upon whether the tendency to order in the boundary is smaller or larger than in the bulk. For Ising universality class there are five different boundary universality classes: periodic, antiperiodic, free, fixed and mixed (mixture of the last two). In this paper we present the new set of the universal amplitude ratios for the mixed boundary universality class. The results are in perfect agreement with a perturbated conformal field theory scenario proposed …
Using transfer-matrix extended phenomenological renormalization-group methods the critical properties of spin-1/2 Ising model on a simple-cubic lattice with partly anisotropic coupling strengths ${\vec J}=(J',J',J)$ are studied. Universality of both fundamental critical exponents $y_t$ and $y_h$ is confirmed. It is shown that the critical finite-size scaling amplitude ratios $U=A_{χ^{(4)}}A_κ/A_χ^2$, $Y_1=A_{κ^{''}}/A_χ$, and $Y_2=A_{κ^{(4)}}/A_{χ^{(4)}}$ are independent of the lattice anisotropy parameter $Δ=J'/J$. By this for the last above invariant of the three-dimensional Ising universali…
The mixed spin-1/2 and spin-3/2 Ising model on the union jack lattice is solved by establishing a mapping correspondence with the eight-vertex model. It is shown that the model under investigation becomes exactly soluble as a free-fermion eight-vertex model when the parameter of uniaxial single-ion anisotropy tends to infinity. Under this restriction, the critical points are characterized by critical exponents from the standard Ising universality class. In a certain subspace of interaction parameters, which corresponds to a coexistence surface between two ordered phases, the model becomes exac…
We compute a number of universal amplitude ratios in the three-dimensional Ising universality class. To this end, we perform Monte Carlo simulations of the improved Blume-Capel model on the simple cubic lattice. For example, we obtain A_+/A_-=0.536(2) and C_+/C_-=4.713(7), where A_+- and C_+- are the amplitudes of the specific heat and the magnetic susceptibility, respectively. The subscripts + and - indicate the high and the low temperature phase, respectively. We compare our results with those obtained from previous Monte Carlo simulations, high and low temperature series expansions, field t…
We study numerically the zero temperature Random Field Ising Model on cubic lattices of various linear sizes $ 6 \le L \le 90 $ in three dimensions with the purpose of verifying the validity of universality for disordered systems. For each random field configuration we vary the ferromagnetic coupling strength J and compute the ground state exactly. We examine the case of different random field probability distributions: gaussian distribution, zero width bimodal distribution h_{i} = \pm 1, wide bimodal distribution h_{i} = \pm 1 +δh (with a gaussian $δh$). We also study the case of the randomly…
We propose a new method to numerically calculate transition points that belongs to 2D Ising universality class for quantum spin models. Generally, near the multicritical point, in conventional methods, a finite size correction becomes very large. To suppress the effect of the multicritical point, we use a z-axis twisted boundary condition and a y-axis twisted boundary condition. We apply our method to an S = 1/2 bond-alternating XXZ model. The multicritical point of this model has a BKT transition, where the correlation length diverges singularly. However, with our method, the convergence of c…
We study purely dissipative relaxational dynamics in the three-dimensional Ising universality class. To this end, we simulate the improved Blume-Capel model on the simple cubic lattice by using local algorithms. We perform a finite size scaling analysis of the integrated autocorrelation time of the magnetic susceptibility in equilibrium at the critical point. We obtain $z=2.0245(15)$ for the dynamic critical exponent. As a complement, fully magnetized configurations are suddenly quenched to the critical temperature, giving consistent results for the dynamic critical exponent. Furthermore, our …
We consider two bidimensional classical Ising models, coupled by a weak interaction bilinear in the energy densities of the two systems; the model contains, as limiting cases, the Ashkin-Teller and the Eight-vertex models for certain values of their parameters. We write the energy-energy correlations and the specific heat as Grassman integrals formally describing Dirac 1+1 dimensional interacting massive fermions on a lattice, and an expansion based on Renormalization Group is written for them, convergent up to temperatures very close to the critical temperature for small coupling. The asympto…
Simulation data are analyzed for four 3D spin-$1/2$ Ising models: on the FCC lattice, the BCC lattice, the SC lattice and the Diamond lattice. The observables studied are the susceptibility, the reduced second moment correlation length, and the normalized Binder cumulant. From measurements covering the entire paramagnetic temperature regime the corrections to scaling are estimated. We conclude that a correction term having an exponent which is consistent within the statistics with the bootstrap value of the universal subleading thermal confluent correction exponent, $θ_{2} \sim 2.454(3)$, is a…
We study the off-equilibrium critical dynamics of the three dimensional diluted Ising model. We compute the dynamical critical exponent $z$ and we show that it is independent of the dilution only when we take into account the scaling-corrections to the dynamics. Finally we will compare our results with the experimental data.
The name Ising has come to stand not only for a specific model, but for an entire universality class - arguably the most important such class - in the theory of critical phenomena. I review several examples, both in and out of equilibrium, in which Ising universality appears or is pertinent. The "Ornstein-Zernike" connection concerns a thermodynamically self-consistent closure of the eponymous relation, which lies at the basis of the modern theory of liquids, as applied to the Ising lattice gas. Debye and Huckel founded the statistical mechanics of ionic solutions, which, despite the long-rang…
The dynamic critical exponent and the frequency and wave-vector dependent susceptibility of the kinetic Ising model with Glauber dynamics on an alternating isotopic chain are examined. The analysis provides to our knowledge the first connection between a microscopic model and the Nagel scaling curve originally proposed to describe dielectric susceptibility measurements of several glass-forming liquids. While support is given to the hypothesis relating the Nagel scaling to multiple relaxation processes, it is also found that the scaling function may also exhibit plateau regions and does not hol…
We reanalyze transfer matrix and Monte Carlo results for the critical Binder cumulant U* of an anisotropic two-dimensional Ising model on a square lattice in a square geometry with periodic boundary conditions. Spins are coupled between nearest neighboring sites and between next-nearest neighboring sites along one of the lattice diagonals. We find that U* depends only on the asymptotic critical long-distance features of the anisotropy, irrespective of its realization through ferromagnetic or antiferromagnetic next-nearest neighbor couplings. We modify an earlier renormalization-group calculati…
A collection of self-propelled particles with volume exclusion interactions can exhibit the phenomenology of gas-liquid phase separation, known as motility-induced phase separation (MIPS). The non-equilibrium nature of the system is fundamental to the phase transition, however, it is unclear whether MIPS at criticality contributes a novel universality class to non-equilibrium physics. We demonstrate here that this is not the case by showing that a generic critical MIPS belongs to the Ising universality class with conservative dynamics.
We have extended, from order 12 through order 25, the high-temperature series expansions (in zero magnetic field) for the spin-spin correlations of the spin-S Ising models on the square, simple-cubic and body-centered-cubic lattices. On the basis of this large set of data, we confirm accurately the validity of the scaling and universality hypotheses by resuming several tests which involve the correlation function, its moments and the exponential or the second-moment correlation-lengths.
At zero temperature, two-dimensional Ising spin glasses are known to fall into several universality classes. Here we consider the scaling at low but non-zero temperature and provide numerical evidence that $η\approx 0$ and $ν\approx 3.5$ in all cases, suggesting a unique universality class. This algebraic (as opposed to exponential) scaling holds in particular for the $\pm J$ model, with or without dilutions and for the plaquette diluted model. Such a picture, associated with an exceptional behavior at T=0, is consistent with a real space renormalization group approach. We also explain how the…
We solve the long-standing discrepancy between Monte Carlo results and the renormalization prediction for the Binder cumulant of the five-dimensional Ising model. Our conclusions are based on accurate Monte Carlo data for systems with linear sizes up to L=22. A detailed analysis of the corrections to scaling allows the extrapolation of these results to L=\infinity. Our determination of the critical point, K_c=0.1139150 (4), is more than an order of magnitude more accurate than previous estimates.
The non-equilibrium dynamics of the three-dimensional Edwards-Anderson spin-glass model with different bond distributions is investigated by means of Monte Carlo simulation. A numerical method is used to determine the critical temperature and the scaling exponents of the correlation and the integrated response functions. The results obtained agree with those calculated in equilibrium simulations and suggest that the universality class does not depend on the exact form of the bond distribution.

We study the coarsening dynamics of the three-dimensional random field Ising model using Monte Carlo numerical simulations. We test the dynamic scaling and super-scaling properties of global and local two-time observables. We treat in parallel the three-dimensional Edward-Anderson spin-glass and we recall results on Lennard-Jones mixtures and colloidal suspensions to highlight the common and different out of equilibrium properties of these glassy systems.
We study temperature chaos in a two-dimensional Ising spin glass with random quenched bimodal couplings, by an exact computation of the partition functions on large systems. We study two temperature correlators from the total free energy and from the domain wall free energy: in the second case we detect a chaotic behavior. We determine and discuss the chaos exponent and the fractal dimension of the domain walls.
We perform high-statistics Monte Carlo simulations of three three-dimensional Ising spin-glass models: the +-J Ising model for two values of the disorder parameter p, p=1/2 and p=0.7, and the bond-diluted +-J model for bond-occupation probability p_b = 0.45. A finite-size scaling analysis of the quartic cumulants at the critical point shows conclusively that these models belong to the same universality class and allows us to estimate the scaling-correction exponent omega related to the leading irrelevant operator, omega=1.0(1). We also determine the critical exponents nu and eta. Taking into a…
Nonequilibrium kinetic Ising models evolving under the competing effect of spin flips at zero temperature and Kawasaki-type spin-exchange kinetics at infinite temperature T are investigated here in one dimension from the point of view of phase transition and critical behaviour. Branching annihilating random walks with an even number of offspring (on the part of the ferromagnetic domain boundaries), is a decisive process in forming the steady state of the system for a range of parameters, in the family of models considered. A wide variety of quantities characterize the critical behaviour of the…
Order parameter fluctuations for the two dimensional Ising model in the region of the critical temperature are presented. A locus of temperatures T*(L) and of magnetic fields B*(L) are identified, for which the probability density function is similar to that for the 2D-XY model in the spin wave approximation. The characteristics of the fluctuations along these points are largely independent of universality class. We show that the largest range of fluctuations relative to the variance of the distribution occurs along these loci of points, rather than at the critical temperature itself and we dis…
We modify the kinetic Ising model with Metropolis dynamics, allowing each spin to interact only with $q$ spins randomly chosen from the whole system, which corresponds to the topology of a complete graph. We show that the model with $q \ge 3$ exhibits a phase transition between ferromagnetic and paramagnetic phases at temperature $T^*$, which linearly increases with $q$. Moreover, we show that for $q=3$ the phase transition is continuous and discontinuous for larger values of $q$. For $q>3$ the hysteresis exhibits oscillatory behavior -- expanding for even values of $q$ and shrinking for odd v…
We solve a long-standing puzzle in Statistical Mechanics of disordered systems. By performing a high-statistics simulation of the D=3 random-field Ising model at zero temperature for different shapes of the random-field distribution, we show that the model is ruled by a single universality class. We compute the complete set of critical exponents for this class, including the correction-to-scaling exponent, and we show, to high numerical accuracy, that scaling is described by two independent exponents. Discrepancies with previous works are explained in terms of strong scaling corrections.
We investigate the triangular-lattice antiferromagnetic Ising model with a spatially anisotropic next-nearest-neighbor ferromagnetic coupling, which was first discussed by Kitatani and Oguchi. By employing the effective geometric factor, we analyze the scaling dimensions of the operators around the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) transition lines, and determine the global phase diagram. Our numerical data exhibit that two types of BKT-transition lines separate the intermediate critical region from the ordered and disordered phases, and they do not merge into a single curve in the antifer…
We address the question of weak versus strong universality scenarios for the random-bond Ising model in two dimensions. A finite-size scaling theory is proposed, which explicitly incorporates $\ln L$ corrections ($L$ is the linear finite size of the system) to the temperature derivative of the correlation length. The predictions are tested by considering long, finite-width strips of Ising spins with randomly distributed ferromagnetic couplings, along which free energy, spin-spin correlation functions and specific heats are calculated by transfer-matrix methods. The ratio $γ/ν$ is calculated an…
We consider two-dimensional Ising models with randomly distributed ferromagnetic bonds and study the local critical behavior at defect lines by extensive Monte Carlo simulations. Both for ladder and chain type defects, non-universal critical behavior is observed: the critical exponent of the defect magnetization is found to be a continuous function of the strength of the defect coupling. Analyzing corresponding stability conditions, we obtain new evidence that the critical exponent $ν$ of the bulk correlation length of the random Ising model does not depend on dilution, i.e. $ν=1$.
We consider a bilayer quantum spin model with anisotropic intra-layer exchange couplings. By varying the anisotropy, the quantum critical phenomena changes from XY to Heisenberg to Ising universality class, with two, three and one modes respectively becoming gapless simultaneously. We use series expansion methods to calculate the second and third Renyi entanglement entropies when the system is bipartitioned into two parts. Leading area-law terms and subleading entropies associated with corners are separately calculated. We find clear evidence that the logarithmic singularity associated with th…
We propose a method to obtain an improved Hamiltonian (action) for the Ising universality class in three dimensions. The improved Hamiltonian has suppressed leading corrections to scaling. It is obtained by tuning models with two coupling constants. We studied three different models: the +1,-1 Ising model with nearest neighbour and body diagonal interaction, the spin-1 model with states 0,+1,-1, and nearest neighbour interaction, and phi**4-theory on the lattice (Landau-Ginzburg Hamiltonian). The remarkable finite size scaling properties of the suitably tuned spin-1 model are compared in detai…
The off-equilibrium response function $χ(t,t_w)$ and autocorrelation function $C(t,t_w)$ of an Ising chain with spin-exchange dynamics are studied numerically and compared with the same quantities in the case of spin-flip dynamics. It is found that, even though these quantities are separately different in the two cases, the parametric plot of $χ(t,t_w)$ versus $C(t,t_w)$ is the same. While this result could be expected in higher dimensionality, where $χ(C)$ is related to the equilibrium state, it is far from trivial in the one dimensional case where this relation does not hold. The origin of t…
The scaling function of the 2D Ising model in a magnetic field on the square and triangular lattices is obtained numerically via Baxter's variational corner transfer matrix approach. The use of the Aharony-Fisher non-linear scaling variables allowed us to perform calculations sufficiently away from the critical point to obtain very high precision data, which convincingly confirm all predictions of the scaling and universality hypotheses. The results are in excellent agreement with the field theory calculations of Fonseca and Zamolodchikov as well as with many previously known exact and numeric…
We simulate the spin-1/2 Ising model and the Blume-Capel model at various values of the parameter D on the simple cubic lattice. We perform a finite size scaling study of lattices of a linear size up to L=360 to obtain accurate estimates for critical exponents. We focus on values of D, where the amplitudes of leading corrections are small. Furthermore we employ improved observables that have a small amplitude of the leading correction. We obtain nu=0.63002(10), eta=0.03627(10) and omega=0.832(6). We compare our results with those obtained from previous Monte Carlo simulations and high temperat…
We study the critical behavior of the entropy production of the Ising model subject to a magnetic field that oscillates in time. The mean-field model displays a phase transition that can be either first or second-order, depending on the amplitude of the field and on the frequency of oscillation. Within this approximation the entropy production rate is shown to have a discontinuity when the transition is first-order and to be continuous, with a jump in its first derivative, if the transition is second-order. In two dimensions, we find with numerical simulations that the critical behavior of the…
We study through Monte Carlo simulations and finite-size scaling analysis the nonequilibrium phase transitions of the majority-vote model taking place on spatially embedded networks. These structures are built from an underlying regular lattice over which long-range connections are randomly added according to the probability, $P_{ij}\sim{r^{-α}}$, where $r_{ij}$ is the Manhattan distance between nodes $i$ and $j$, and the exponent $α$ is a controlling parameter [J. M. Kleinberg, Nature 406, 845 (2000)]. Our results show that the collective behavior of this system exhibits a continuous order-di…
We use large-scale Monte Carlo simulations to test the Weinrib-Halperin criterion that predicts new universality classes in the presence of sufficiently slowly decaying power-law-correlated quenched disorder. While new universality classes are reasonably well established, the predicted exponents are controversial. We propose a method of growing such correlated disorder using the three-dimensional Ising model as benchmark systems both for generating disorder and studying the resulting phase transition. Critical equilibrium configurations of a disorder-free system are used to define the two-valu…
