A general class of gauges for open string field theory, for which the gauge fixing condition is given by linear equations with respect to string field, is investigated in detail. This class of gauges includes almost all known ones like Siegel gauge and its various extensions such as a-gauges proposed by the present authors as well as Schnabl gauge and linear b-gauges. A general form of propagators is determined and their common features are analyzed. A consistent procedure for calculating the amplitudes is given. Gauge independence of the on-shell physical amplitudes is explicitly shown.
The recently introduced anomaly-free twistor string in 4 dimensions is further explored. The spectrum based on the physical states and its Minkowski interpretation are examined. Scattering amplitudes with vertex operators involving gravitons and fermions are computed and are compared with Einstein-Yang-Mills amplitudes. Tree and one-loop scattering amplitudes are shown to have proper unitary factorization properties. Finally a string field theory is proposed.
We evaluate four-gauge-particle tree level scattering amplitudes using the Polyakov string path integral in the proper-time gauge, where the string path integral can be cast into the Feynman-Schwinger proper-time representation. We compare the resultant scattering amplitudes, which include $\ap$-corrections, with the conventional ones that may be obtained by substituting local vertex operators for the external string states. In the zero-slope limit, both amplitudes are reduced to the four-gauge-particle scattering amplitude of non-Abelian Yang-Mills gauge theory. However, when the string corre…
We study the 6d $\mathcal{N}=(1,0)$ superconformal field theory with smallest non-Higgsable gauge symmetry $SU(3)$. In particular, we propose new 2d gauge theory descriptions of its self-dual strings in the tensor branch. We use our gauge theories to compute the elliptic genera of the self-dual strings, which completely agree with the partial data known from topological strings. We further study the strings of the $(E_6,E_6)$ conformal matter by generalizing our 2d gauge theories. We also show that anomalies of all our gauge theories agree with the self-dual string anomalies computed by inflow…
We study string scattering amplitudes by using the deformed cubic string field theory which is equivalent to the string field theory in the proper-time gauge. The four-string scattering amplitudes with three tachyons and an arbitrary string state are calculated. The string field theory yields the string scattering amplitudes evaluated on the world sheet of string scattering whereas the coventional method, based on the first quantized theory brings us the string scattering amplitudes defined on the upper half plane. For the highest spin states, generated by the primary operators, both calculati…
We study the soft behavior of string scattering amplitudes at three level with massless and massive external insertions, relying on different techniques to compute 4-points amplitudes respectively with open or closed strings.
In a recent paper, Balthazar, Rodriguez and Yin found remarkable agreement between the one instanton contribution to the scattering amplitudes of two dimensional string theory and those in the matrix model to the first subleading order. The comparison was carried out numerically by analytically continuing the external energies to imaginary values, since for real energies the string theory result diverges. We use insights from string field theory to give finite expressions for the string theory amplitudes for real energies. We also show analytically that the imaginary parts of the string theory…
We continue our study of the Kawai-Lewellen-Tye (KLT) factorization of winding string amplitudes. In a toroidal compactification, amplitudes for winding closed string states factorize into products of amplitudes for open strings ending on an array of D-branes localized in the compactified directions; the specific D-brane configuration is determined by the closed string data. In this paper, we study a zero Regge slope limit of the KLT relations between winding string amplitudes. Such a limit of string theory requires a critically tuned Kalb-Ramond field in a compact direction, and leads to a se…
We perform canonical analysis of new non-relativistic string action that was found recently in [arXiv:2107.00642 [hep-th]]. We also discuss its gauge fixed form.
We overview symmetries of string scattering amplitudes in the high energy limits of both the fixed angle or Gross regime (GR) and the fixed momentum transfer or Regge regime (RR). We calculated high energy string scattering amplitudes (SSA) at arbitrary mass levels for both regimes. We discovered the infinite linear relations among fixed angle string amplitudes and the infinite recurrence relations among Regge string amplitudes. The linear relations we obtained in the GR corrected the saddle point calculations by Gross, Gross and Mende. In addition, for the high energy closed string scattering…
We compute the normalization of the D-instanton amplitudes in type 0B string theory in two dimensions and find perfect agreement with the dual matrix model result.
We revisit the results of one loop string amplitude calculations for the Heterotic string theory compactified on a torus with or without Wilson lines. We give the complete elliptic genus and the harmonic part of the CP-even amplitude for the gauge groups $SO(32)$, $E_8 \times E_8$, $SO(16)^2$ and $SO(8)^4$.
It is possible to formulate light-cone gauge string field theory in noncritical dimensions. Such a theory corresponds to conformal gauge worldsheet theory with nonstandard longitudinal part. We study the longitudinal part of the worldsheet theory on higher genus Riemann surfaces. The results in this paper shall be used to study the dimensional regularization of light-cone gauge string field theory.
We compute one-loop amplitudes in six-dimensional Yang-Mills theory with half-maximal supersymmetry from first principles: imposing gauge invariance and locality on an ansatz made from string-theory inspired kinematic building blocks yields unique expressions for the 3- and 4-point amplitudes. We check that the results are reproduced in the field-theory limit $α' \rightarrow 0$ of string amplitudes in K3 orbifolds, using simplifications made in a companion string-theory paper 1603.05262.
