Blow-up estimates at horizontal points and applications

Horizontal points of smooth submanifolds in stratified groups play the role of singular points with respect to the Carnot-Carathe'odory distance. When we consider hypersurfaces, they coincide with the well known characteristic points. In two step groups, we obtain pointwise estimates for the Riemannian surface measure at all horizontal points of $C^{1,1}$ smooth submanifolds. As an application, we establish an integral formula to compute the spherical Hausdorff measure of any $C^{1,1}$ submanifold. Our technique also shows that $C^2$ smooth submanifolds everywhere admit an intrinsic blow-up and that the limit set is an intrinsically homogeneous algebraic variety.

Gradient estimates and lower bound for the blow-up time of star-shaped mean curvature flow

In this paper we consider a star-shaped hypersurface flow by mean curvature. Without any assumption on the convexity, we give a new proof of gradient estimate for a short time. As an application, we also give a lower bound for the blowing up time.

Horizontal Gradient Estimate of Positive Pseudo-Harmonic Functions on Complete Noncompact Pseudo-Hermitian Manifolds

In this paper, we will give a horizontal gradient estimate of positive solutions of $Δ_b u = - λu$ on complete noncompact pseudo-Hermitian manifolds. As a consequence, we recapture the Liouville theorem of positive pseudo-harmonic functions on Sasakian manifolds with nonnegative pseudo-Hermitian Ricci curvature.

Uniform A Priori Estimates For A Class Of Horizontal Minimal Equations

In the product space H^n \times R; we obtain uniform a priori C^0 horizontal length estimates, uniform a priori C^1 boundary gradient estimates, as well as uniform modulus of continuity, for a class of horizontal minimal equations. In two independent variables, we derive a certain uniform global a priori C^1 estimates and we infer an existence result.

A low rank property and nonexistence of higher dimensional horizontal Sobolev sets

We establish a "low rank property" for Sobolev mappings that pointwise solve a first order nonlinear system of PDEs, whose smooth solutions have the so-called "contact property". As a consequence, Sobolev mappings from an open set of the plane, taking values in the first Heisenberg group and that have almost everywhere maximal rank must have images with positive 3-dimensional Hausdorff measure with respect to the sub-Riemannian distance of the Heisenberg group. Gradient estimates and blow-up analysis for stationary harmonic maps

For stationary harmonic maps between Riemannian manifolds, we provide a necessary and sufficient condition for the uniform interior and boundary gradient estimates in terms of the total energy of maps. We also show that if analytic target manifolds do not carry any harmonic S^2, then the singular sets of stationary maps are m \leq n - 4 rectifiable. Both of these results follow from a general analysis on the defect measures and energy concentration sets associated with a weakly converging sequence of stationary harmonic maps.

Quantitative blow-up estimates for spacelike singularities in gravitational-collapse cosmological spacetimes

Under spherical symmetry, with double-null coordinates $(u,v)$, we study the gravitational collapse of the Einstein--scalar field system with a positive cosmological constant. The spacetime singularities arise when area radius $r$ vanishes and they are spacelike. Prescribing a fourth order conformal invariant on the standard sphere, Part II: blow-up analysis and applications

In this paper we perform a fine blow-up analysis for a fourth order elliptic equation involving critical Sobolev exponent, related to the prescription of some conformal invariant on the standard sphere. We derive from this analysis some a priori estimates in dimension 5 and 6. On the five dimensionl sphere these a priori estimates combined with the perturbation result of Part I allow us to obtain some existence results. On the six dimensional sphere we prove the existence of at least one solution when an associated index is different from zero.

Compactness of solutions to the Yamabe problem. III

For a sequence of blow up solutions of the Yamabe equation on non-locally confonformally flat compact Riemannian manifolds of dimension 10 or 11, we establish sharp estimates on its asymptotic profile near blow up points as well as sharp decay estimates of the Weyl tensor and its covariant derivatives at blow up points. If the Positive Mass Theorem held in dimensions 10 and 11, these estimates would imply the compactness of the set of solutions of the Yamabe equation on such manifolds.

The blow up of solutions to semilinear wave equations on asymptotically Euclidean manifolds

In this paper, we investigate the problem of blow up and sharp upper bound estimates of the lifespan for the solutions to the semilinear wave equations, posed on asymptotically Euclidean manifolds. Here the metric is assumed to be exponential perturbation of the spherical symmetric, long range asymptotically Euclidean metric.
