Our effective theory manifests electromagnetic duality and spontaneously broken scale symmetry, and reproduces the multimonopole moduli space dynamics of Manton in a suitable limit. The known BPS dyon black hole solutions of the N=4 heterotic string in four dimensions with non-zero angular momentum all have naked singularities. We show that it is possible to modify a certain class of these solutions by the addition of massive Kaluza-Klein fields in such a way that the solutions decompactify near the core to five-dimensional black hole solutions with regular event horizons. We argue that the degeneracy of the four-dimensional BPS dyon states is given, for large charges, by the five-dimensional geometric entropy.

We apply the BPS Lagrangian method~\cite{Atmaja:2015umo} to derive BPS equations of monopole and dyon in the $SU(2)$ Yang-Mills-Higgs model, Nakamula-Shiraishi models, and their Generalized versions. As a novel application of string junctions, we provide evidence for the existence of stable non-BPS dyons with magnetic charge greater than 1 in (the semiclassical regime of) N=2 SU(2) Super-Yang-Mills theory. In addition, we find a new curve of marginal stability. Moduli space is therefore divided into four regions, each containing a different stable particle spectrum.
Dyonic non-Abelian local/semi-global vortex strings are studied in detail in supersymmetric/non-supersymmetric Yang-Mills-Higgs theories. In analogy with an earlier proposal for the $(\nablaΦ)^4$ coupling, we propose that the $\nabla^2(\nablaΦ)^4$ coupling is given exactly by a manifestly U-duality invariant genus-two modular integral. We revisit BPS solutions to classical N=2 low energy effective gauge theories. It is shown that the BPS equations can be solved in full generality by the introduction of a Hesse potential, a symplectic analog of the holomorphic prepotential. We explain how for non-spherically symmetric, non-mutually local solutions, the notion of attractor flow generalizes to gradient flow with respect to the Hesse potential. Furthermore we show that in general there is a non-trivial magnetic complement to this flow equation that is sourced by the momentum current in the solution.
We show that the exact static, i.e. `anti-gravitating', magnetic multi monopole solutions of the Einstein/Maxwell/dilaton-YM/Higgs equations found by Kastor, London, Traschen, and the authors, for arbitrary non-zero dilaton coupling constant $a$, are equivalent to the string theory BPS magnetic monopole solutions of Harvey and Liu when $a=\sqrt{3}$. Three dyon solutions to the SU(2) Yang-Mills-Higgs system are presented. These solutions are obtained from the BPS dyon by allowing the gauge fields to be complex, or by letting the free parameter of the BPS solution become imaginary. In all cases however the physically measurable quantities connected with these new solutions are entirely real. Although the new solutions are mathematically simple variations of the BPS solution, they have one or more physically distinct characteristics.
We determine the generating functions of 1/4 BPS dyons in a class of 4d $\mathcal{N}=4$ string vacua arising as CHL orbifolds of $K3 \times T^2$, a classification of which has been recently completed. We describe a kinematical analogy for the marginal decay of 1/4-BPS dyons in 4-dimensional N=4 string compactifications. In this analogy, the electric and magnetic charges play the role of spatial momenta, the BPS mass plays the role of energy, and 1/2-BPS dyons correspond to massless particles. Using SO(12,1) "Lorentz" invariance and standard kinematical formulae in particle physics, we provide simple derivations of the curves of marginal stability. We also show how these curves map into the momentum ellipsoid, and propose some applications of this analogy.

Three-dimensional string models with half-maximal supersymmetry are believed to be invariant under a large U-duality group which unifies the S and T dualities in four dimensions. We propose an exact, U-duality invariant formula for four-derivative scalar couplings of the form $F(Φ) (\nablaΦ)^4$ in a class of string vacua known as CHL $\mathbb{Z}_N$ heterotic orbifolds with $N$ prime, generalizing our previous work which dealt with the case of heterotic string on $T^6$. We study general two-body decays of primitive and non-primitive 1/4-BPS dyons in four-dimensional type IIB string compactifications. We find a ``master equation'' for marginal stability that generalises the curve found by Sen for half-BPS decay, and analyse this equation in a variety of cases including decays to 1/4-BPS products. For half-BPS decays, an interesting and useful relation is exhibited between walls of marginal stability and the mathematics of Farey sequences and Ford circles. We exhibit an example in which two curves of marginal stability intersect in the interior of moduli space.
We present a relatively simple argument showing that the H-dyon states required by S-duality of the heterotic string on $T^6$ are present provided that the BPS dyons required by S-duality of N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory are present. We also conjecture and provide evidence that H-dyons at singularities where the nonperturbative gauge symmetry is completely broken are actually BPS dyons.
We derive the wall crossing formula for the decay of a quarter BPS dyon into a pair of half-BPS dyons by analyzing the quantum dynamics of multi-centered black holes in N=4 supersymmetric string theories. This paper contains the results of our investigations of BPS instantons and of our work on N=2 supersymmetric gauge theories. The BPS instantons we study appear in type II string theory compactifications on Calabi-Yau threefolds. In the corresponding four-dimensional effective supergravity actions the BPS instantons arise as finite action solutions to the Euclidean equations of motion. For N=2 supersymmetric gauge theories we construct general Lagrangians involving gauge groups with (non-abelian) electric and magnetic (dyonic) charges. In this work a coupling to hypermultiplets is included.
We determine the low energy dynamics of monopoles in pure N=2 Yang-Mills theories for points in the vacuum moduli space where the two Higgs fields are not aligned. The dynamics is governed by a supersymmetric quantum mechanics with potential terms and four real supercharges. We find the analytic form for the general solution to the BPS equations, the horizon appears as a double root of a particular quartic polynomial whereas in previous work this quartic polynomial further factored into a pair of double roots. To a domain wall or string object, Noether charge and topological spatial objects can be attracted, forming a composite BPS (Bogomolny-Prasad-Sommerfield) object. We consider two field theories and derive a new BPS bound on composite linear solitons involving multiple charges. Among the BPS objects `supertubes' appear when the wall or string tension is canceled by the bound energy, and could take an arbitrary closed curve. In our theories, supertubes manifest as Chern-Simons solitons, dyonic instantons, charged semi-local vortices, and dyonic instantons on vortex flux sheet.

We compute the low-energy classical differential scattering cross-section for BPS $SU(2)$ magnetic monopoles using the geodesic approximation to the actual dynamics and 16K parallel processors on a CM2. Numerical experiments suggest that the quantum BPS magnetic monopole differential cross-section is well-approximated by the classical BPS magnetic monopole differential cross-section. We evaluate the gauge invariant, dynamically conserved charges, recently obtained from the integral form of the Yang-Mills equations, for the BPS multi-dyon solutions of a Yang-Mills-Higgs theory associated to any compact semi-simple gauge group G. Those charges are shown to correspond to the eigenvalues of the next-to-leading term of the asymptotic form of the Higgs field at spatial infinity, and so coinciding with the usual topological charges of those solutions. We identify and analyze quasiperiodic and chaotic motion patterns in the time evolution of a classical, non-Abelian Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) dyon pair at low energies. This system is amenable to the geodesic approximation which restricts the underlying SU(2) Yang-Mills-Higgs dynamics to an eight-dimensional phase space. We study the existence of monopole bound states saturating the BPS bound in N=2 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theories. We describe how the existence of such bound states relates to the topology of index bundles over the moduli space of BPS solutions. Using an $L^2$ index theorem, we prove the existence of certain BPS states predicted by Seiberg and Witten based on their study of the vacuum structure of N=2 Yang-Mills theories.
For heterotic string theory compactified on T^6, we derive the complete set of T-duality invariants which characterize a pair of charge vectors (Q,P) labelling the electric and magnetic charges of the dyon. Using this we can identify the complete set of dyons to which the previously derived degeneracy formula can be extended. By going near special points in the moduli space of the theory we derive the spectrum of quarter BPS dyons in N=4 supersymmetric gauge theory with simply laced gauge groups. The results are in agreement with those derived from field theory analysis.
