The exact spectrum of dyons in a class of N=4 supersymmetric string theories is known to change discontinuously across walls of marginal stability. We show that the change in the degeneracy across the walls of marginal stability can be accounted for precisely by the entropy of two centered small black holes which disappear as we cross the walls of marginal stability.
We study static spherically symmetric gravitating dyon solutions and dyonic black holes in Einstein-Yang-Mills-Higgs theory. The gravitating dyon solutions share many features with the gravitating monopole solutions. In particular, gravitating dyon solutions and dyonic black holes exist up to a maximal coupling constant, and beside the fundamental dyon solutions there are excited dyon solutions.
New rotating dyonic dipole black ring solutions are derived in 5D Einstein-dilaton gravity with antisymmetric forms. The black rings are analyzed and their thermodynamics is discussed. New dyonic black string solutions are also presented.
We derive the wall crossing formula for the decay of a quarter BPS dyon into a pair of half-BPS dyons by analyzing the quantum dynamics of multi-centered black holes in N=4 supersymmetric string theories. Our analysis encompasses the cases where the final decay products are non-primitive dyons. The results are in agreement with the microscopic formula for the dyon spectrum in the special case of heterotic string theory on T^6.
We revisit non-rotating, dyonically charged, and supersymmetric AdS$_4$ black holes, which are solutions of $\mathcal{N}=2$ gauged supergravity with vector- and hyper-multplets. Uplifting the near horizon solutions to $D=11$ supergravity on seven-dimensional Sasaki-Einstein manifolds, we show that dyonic AdS$_4$ black holes correspond to AdS$_2$ solutions with electric and magnetic baryonic fluxes in $D=11$ supergravity. We identify the off-shell AdS$_4$ black hole solutions with parameters of $D=11$ AdS$_2$ solutions without imposing the equations of motion. We calculate the entropy of dyonic…
Magnetic and Dyonic solutions are constructed for the theory of abelian gauged N=2 gauged four dimensional supergravity coupled to vector multiplets. The solutions found preserve 1/4 of the supersymmetry.
Dyonic black holes with string-loop corrections are studied in the near-horizon region. In perturbative heterotic string theory compactified to four dimensions with N=2 supersymmetry, in the first order in string-loop expansion parameter, we solve the system of Maxwell and Killing spinor equations for dyonic black hole. At the horizon, the string-loop-corrected solution displays restoration of spontaneously broken supersymmetry.
An exact solution of Einstein - Maxwell - conformal scalar field equations is given, which is a black hole solution and has three parameters: scalar charge, electric charge, and magnetic charge. Switching off the magnetic charge parameter yields the solution given by Bekenstein. In addition the energy of the conformal scalar dyon black hole is obtained.
We study string propagation in an exact, four-dimensional dyonic black hole background. The general solutions describing string configurations are obtained by solving the string equations of motion and constraints. By using the covariant formalism, we also investigate the propagation of physical perturbations along the string in the given curved background.
We study some features of dyonic Black hole solution in heterotic string theory on a six torus. This solution has 58 parameters. Of these, 28 parameters denote the electric charge of the black hole, another 28 correspond to the magnetic charge, and the other two parameters being the mass and the angular momentum of the black hole. We discuss the extremal limit and show that in various limits, it reduces to the known black hole solutions. The solutions saturating the Bogomolnyi bound are identified. Explicit solution is presented for the non-rotating dyonic black hole.
An exact solution of the low-energy string theory representing static, spherical symmetric dyonic black hole is found. The solution is labeled by their mass, electric charge, magnetic charge and asymptotic value of the scalar dilaton. Some interesting properties of the dyonic black holes are studied. In particular, the Hawking temperature of dyonic black holes depends on both the electric and magnetic charges, and the extremal ones, which have nonzero electric and magnetic charges, have zero temperature but nonzero entropy. These properties are quite different from those of electrically (or ma…
The spherical symmetric dyonic black hole solutions of the effective action of heterotic string are studied perturbatively up to second order in the inverse string tension. An expression for the temperature in term of the mass and the electric and magnetic charge of the black hole is derived and it is shown that its behaviour is qualitatively different in the two special cases where either the electric or the magnetic charge vanishes
We calculate asymptotic expansions of elliptic genera for a supersymmetric sigma model on the N - fold symmetric product S^NM of a Kahler manifold M and for N = 2 superconformal field theory. Asymptotic expansions for the degeneracy of dyonic black hole spectrum are also derived.
We demonstrate that rotating dyonic black holes in Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton-Axion (EMDA) theory is holographically dual with 2D conformal field theory. We first investigate the duality on dyonic Kerr-Sen black hole with non-vanishing dilaton and axion charges. The near-horizon geometry of extremal dyonic Kerr-Sen spacetime possesses the $SL(2,R) \times U (1)$ isometry allowing to employ the asymptotic symmetry group method to find the corresponding central charge. We find two different branches of the mass which correspond to CFT with two different central charges $c_L=12am_+$ and $c_L=12am_-$…
The dominant contribution to the semicanonical partition function of dyonic black holes of N=4 string theory is computed for generic charges, generalizing recent results of Shih and Yin. The result is compared to the black hole free energy obtained from the conjectured relation to topological strings. If certain perturbative corrections are included agreement is found to subleading order. These corrections modify the conjectured relation and implement covariance with respect to electric-magnetic duality transformations.
For extremal charged black holes, the thermodynamic entropy is proportional not to the area but to the mass or charges. This is demonstrated here for dyonic extremal black hole solutions of string theory. It is pointed out that these solutions have zero classical action although the area is nonzero. By combining the general form of the entropy allowed by thermodynamics with recent observations in the literature it is possible to fix the entropy almost completely.
The degeneracies of supersymmetric quarter BPS dyons in four dimensions and of spinning black holes in five dimensions in a CHL compactification are computed exactly using Borcherds lift. The Hodge anomaly in the construction has a physical interpretation as the contribution of a single M-theory Kaluza-Klein 6-brane in the 4d-5d lift. Using factorization, it is shown that the resulting formula has a natural interpretation as a two-loop partition function of left-moving heterotic string, consistent with the heuristic picture of dyons in the M-theory lift of string webs.
We study a class of rotating dyonic black holes in the heterotic string theory in four dimension which have left, right independent electric charges but have same magnitude for the left and right magnetic charges. In both left and right sector the electric and the magnetic vectors are orthogonal to each other. The gyromagnetic(electric) ratios are in general found not to have an upper bound.
In heterotic string theory compactified to four dimensions with N=2 supersymmetry, string-loop corrections to the universal sector of the low-energy effective action are studied. Within the framework of N=2 supersymmetric formulation of the theory, in the first order in string coupling constant, we solve the system of the loop-corrected Maxwell and Killing spinor equations. Taking as the in-put the tree-level dyonic black hole solution, we calculate string-loop corrections to the string tree-level metric and moduli of dyonic black hole.
We investigate extremal dyon black holes in the Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton (EMD) theory with higher curvature corrections in the form of the Gauss-Bonnet density coupled to the dilaton. In the same theory without the Gauss-Bonnet term the extremal dyon solutions exist only for discrete values of the dilaton coupling constant $a$. We show that the Gauss-Bonnet term acts as a dyon hair tonic enlarging the allowed values of $a$ to continuous domains in the plane $(a, q_m)$ the second parameter being the magnetic charge. In the limit of the vanishing curvature coupling (a large magnetic charge) the …
We study thermodynamic properties of dyonic black hole and its dual field theory. We observe that the phase diagram of a dyonic black hole in constant electric potential and magnetic charge ensemble is similar to that of a Van der Waals fluid with chemical potential. Phase transitions and other critical phenomena have been studied in presence of magnetic charge and chemical potential. We also analyse magnetic properties of dual conformal field theory and observe a ferromagnetic like behavior of boundary theory when the external magnetic field vanishes. Finally, we compute susceptibility of dif…
In this paper, according to CA duality, we study the complexity growth of dyonic RN-type black holes with quartic field strength corrections ($F^4$ corrections) to the matter action in general $D\geq4$-dimensions and find the behavior of action growth, similar to the case of the normal RN black holes, is different between electric and magnetic black holes which is unexpected since violates the electromagnetic duality. For restoring this duality, we add the Maxwell boundary term (at order 3-derivative) to the action and discuss the outcomes of the addition. Also, we have used another method tha…
We explain why multi-centered black hole configurations where at least one of the centers is a large black hole do not contribute to the indexed degeneracies in theories with N=4 supersymmetry. This is a consequence of the fact that such configurations, although supersymmetric, belong to long supermultiplets. As a result, there is no entropy enigma in N=4 theories, unlike in N=2 theories.
Using dyonic solutions in the type IIA superstring theory on Calabi-Yau manifolds, we reconsider the study of black objects and quantum information theory using string/string duality in six dimensions. Concretely, we relate four-qubits with a stringy quaternionic moduli space of type IIA compactification associated with a dyonic black solution formed by black holes (BH) and black 2-branes (B2B) carrying 8 electric charges and 8 magnetic charges. This connection is made by associating the cohomology classes of the heterotic superstring on T^{4} to four-qubit states. These states are interpreted…
We investigate the thermodynamics of dyonic hairy black holes in flat spacetime when the asymptotic value of the scalar field is not fixed. We use the quasilocal formalism of Brown and York and corresponding boundary terms that make the variational principle well defined to prove that the scalar charges do not contribute to the first law of thermodynamics. We also provide a unified picture of obtaining exact solutions by comparing two different methods and discuss in detail the ansatz used in each coordinate system and the relation between them.
Black holes with asymptotic anisotropic scaling are conjectured to be gravity duals of condensed matter system close to quantum critical points with non-trivial dynamical exponent z at finite temperature. A holographic renormalization procedure is presented that allows thermodynamic potentials to be defined for objects with both electric and magnetic charge in such a way that standard thermodynamic relations hold. Black holes in asymptotic Lifshitz spacetimes can exhibit paramagnetic behavior at low temperature limit for certain values of the critical exponent z, whereas the behavior of AdS bl…
We show that there are two classes of solutions that describe static spherically symmetric dyonic dilaton black holes with two nonsingular horizons. The first class includes only the already known solutions that exist for a few special values of the dilaton coupling constant. Solutions belonging to the second class have essentially different properties. They exist for continuously varying values of the dilaton coupling constant, but arise only for discrete values of the dilaton field at the horizon. For each given value of the dilaton coupling constant, there may exist several such solutions d…
We investigate phase transitions and critical phenomena of four dimensional dyonic charged AdS black holes in the framework of thermodynamic geometry. In a mixed canonical grand canonical ensemble with a fixed electric charge and varying magnetic charge these black holes exhibit liquid gas like first order phase transition culminating in a second order critical point similar to the Van der Waals gas. We show that the thermodynamic scalar curvature R for these black holes follow our proposed geometrical characterization of the R-crossing Method for the first order liquid gas like phase transiti…
In five dimensions, we consider a model described by the Einstein gravity with a source given by a scalar field and various Abelian gauge fields with dilatonic-like couplings. For this model, we are able to construct two dyonic black holes whose three-dimensional horizons are modeled by two nontrivial homogeneous Thurston's geometries. The dyonic solutions are of Lifshitz type with an arbitrary value of the dynamical exponent. In fact, the first gauge field ensures the anisotropy asymptotic while the remaining Abelian fields sustain the electric and magnetic charges. Using the Hamiltonian form…
We investigate the stability of four-dimensional dyonic soliton and black hole solutions of ${\mathfrak {su}}(2)$ Einstein-Yang-Mills theory in anti-de Sitter space. We prove that, in a neighbourhood of the embedded trivial (Schwarzschild-)anti-de Sitter solution, there exist non-trivial dyonic soliton and black hole solutions of the field equations which are stable under linear, spherically symmetric, perturbations of the metric and non-Abelian gauge field.
We find static spherically symmetric dyons in Einstein-Born-Infeld-Higgs model in 3+1 dimensions. The solutions share many features with the gravitating monopoles in the same model. In particular, they exist only up to some critical value of a parameter $\a$ related to the strength of the gravitational interaction. We also study dyonic non-Abelian black holes. We analyse these solutions numerically.
It is shown that the asymptotic growth of the microscopic degeneracy of BPS dyons in four-dimensional N=4 string theory captures the known corrections to the macroscopic entropy of four-dimensional extremal black holes. These corrections are subleading in the limit of large charges and originate both from the presence of interactions in the effective action quadratic in the Riemann tensor and from non-holomorphic terms. The presence of the non-holomorphic corrections and their contribution to the thermodynamic free energy is discussed. It is pointed out that the expression for the microscopic …
We study dyonic soliton and black hole solutions of the ${\mathfrak {su}}(2)$ Einstein-Yang-Mills equations in asymptotically anti-de Sitter space. We prove the existence of non-trivial dyonic soliton and black hole solutions in a neighbourhood of the trivial solution. For these solutions the magnetic gauge field function has no zeros and we conjecture that at least some of these non-trivial solutions will be stable. The global existence proof uses local existence results and a non-linear perturbation argument based on the (Banach space) implicit function theorem.
We explicitly compute the entropy of an extremal dyonic black hole in heterotic string theory compactified on T^6 or K3\times T^2 by taking into account all the tree level four derivative corrections to the low energy effective action. For supersymmetric black holes the result agrees with the answer obtained earlier 1) by including only the Gauss-Bonnet corrections to the effective action 2) by including all terms related to the curvature squared terms via space-time supersymmetry transformation, and 3) by using general arguments based on the assumption of AdS_3 near horizon geometry and space…
It is shown that the hidden conformal symmetry, namely $SO(2,2) \sim SL(2,R)_L \times SL(2,R)_R$ symmetry, of the non-extremal dyonic Reissner-Nordström black hole can be probed by a charged massless scalar field at low frequencies. The existence of such hidden conformal symmetry suggests that the field theory holographically dual to the 4D Reissner-Nordström black hole indeed should be a 2D CFT. Although the associated AdS$_3$ structure does not explicitly appear in the near horizon geometry, the primary parameters of the dual CFT$_2$ can be exactly obtained without the necessity of embedding…
We study static spherically symmetric dyonic black holes in Einstein-Yang-Mills-Higgs theory. As for the magnetic non-abelian black holes, the domain of existence of the dyonic non-abelian black holes is limited with respect to the horizon radius and the dimensionless coupling constant $α$, which is proportional to the ratio of vector meson mass and Planck mass. At a certain critical value of this coupling constant, $\hat α$, the maximal horizon radius is attained. We derive analytically a relation between $\hat α$ and the charge of the black hole solutions and confirm this relation numericall…
A recently discovered relation between 4D and 5D black holes is used to derive exact (weighted) BPS black hole degeneracies for 4D N=8 string theory from the exactly known 5D degeneracies. A direct 4D microscopic derivation in terms of weighted 4D D-brane bound state degeneracies is sketched and found to agree.
A class of strongly interacting 2+1 dimensional conformal field theories in a transverse magnetic field can be studied using the AdS/CFT duality. We compute zero momentum hydrodynamic response functions of maximally supersymmetric 2+1 dimensional SU(N) Yang-Mills theory at the conformal fixed point, in the large N limit. With background magnetic field B and electric charge density rho, the Hall conductivity is found to be rho/B. The result, anticipated on kinematic grounds in field theory, is obtained from perturbations of a four dimensional AdS black hole with both electric and magnetic charg…
In this note it is shown that near-extremal four dimensional dyonic black holes, where the dilaton is not constant, can be described by a microscopic model consisting of a one-dimensional gas of massless particles.
The content of this paper includes studying holographical and thermodynamical aspects of dyonic black holes in the presence of massive gravity. For the first part of paper, thermodynamical properties of the bulk which includes black holes are studied and the main focus is on critical behavior. It will be shown that the existence of massive gravitons introduces remnant for temperature after evaporation of black holes, van der Waals phase transition for non-spherical black holes and etc. The consistency of different thermodynamical approaches toward critical behavior of the black holes is presen…
When a scalar wave perturbation is properly scattering off a charged or rotating black hole, the energy of the reflected scalar wave may be amplified. This is a superradiant process. If this amplification process can occur back and forth through certain confining mechanism, it will lead to strong instability of the black hole. In this paper, the superradiant stability is investigated for a special kind of dyonic black holes in string theory. Although the dynoic black hole has a similar spacetime metric with a electrically charged RN black hole, it is found that the dyonic black hole is more un…
The known BPS dyon black hole solutions of the N=4 heterotic string in four dimensions with non-zero angular momentum all have naked singularities. We show that it is possible to modify a certain class of these solutions by the addition of massive Kaluza-Klein fields in such a way that the solutions decompactify near the core to five-dimensional black hole solutions with regular event horizons. We argue that the degeneracy of the four-dimensional BPS dyon states is given, for large charges, by the five-dimensional geometric entropy.
We study exponentially suppressed contributions to the degeneracies of extremal black holes. Within Sen's quantum entropy function framework and focusing on extremal black holes with an intermediate AdS3 region, we identify an infinite family of semi-classical AdS2 geometries which can contribute effects of order exp(S_0/c), where S_0 is the Bekenstein-Hawking-Wald entropy and c is an integer greater than one. These solutions lift to the extremal limit of the SL(2,Z) family of BTZ black holes familiar from the "black hole Farey tail". We test this understanding in N=4 string vacua, where exact…
Motivated by recent advances in Donaldson-Thomas theory, four-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=4$ string-string duality is examined in a reduced rank theory on a less studied BPS sector. In particular we identify candidate partition functions of "untwisted" quarter-BPS dyons in the heterotic $\mathbb{Z}_2$ CHL model by studying the associated chiral genus two partition function, based on the M-theory lift of string webs argument by Dabholkar and Gaiotto. This yields meromorphic Siegel modular forms for the Iwahori subgroup $B(2) \subset \text{Sp}_4 (\mathbb{Z}) $ which generate BPS indices for dyons w…
A class of four-dimensional static supersymmetric black hole solutions of effective supergravity Lagrangian of IIA superstring compactified on $T^6$ is constructed by explicitly solving Killing spinor equations (KSEs). These solutions are dyonic black holes parametrized by four charges, with dilaton and diagonal internal metric components as the only non-zero scalar fields, and preserve $1 \over 8$ of $N=8$ supersymmetry. The KSEs with only Neveu-Schwarz-Neveu-Schwarz charges relate spinors with opposite chirality from ten-dimensional view point, and have identical structures with KSEs of toro…
A recently discovered relation between 4D and 5D black holes is used to derive weighted BPS black hole degeneracies for 4D N=4 string theory from the well-known 5D degeneracies. They are found to be given by the Fourier coefficients of the unique weight 10 automorphic form of the modular group Sp(2,Z). This result agrees exactly with a conjecture made some years ago by Dijkgraaf, Verlinde and Verlinde.
We investigate the superradiant instability of dyonic Reissner-Nordström (dRN) black holes with two charges under a charged massive scalar perturbation. Two conditions for possessing a trapping well are obtained from analyzing asymptotic scalar potential and far-region wave functions. It is clear that the superradiant instability is not allowed in the dRN black holes because the conditions for a trapping well are not compatible with the superradiance condition.
Spherically symmetric magnetic and dyonic black holes with a magnetic charge $Q=2$ are studied in the Standard Model and general relativity. A magnetically charged black hole with mass below $9.3\times 10^{35}$ GeV has a "hairy" cloud of electroweak gauge and Higgs fields outside the event horizon with $1/m_W$ in size. An extremal magnetic black hole has a hair mass of 3.6 TeV, while an extremal dyonic black hole has an additional mass of $q^2 \times 1.6$ GeV for a small electric charge $q \ll 2π/e^2$. A hairy dyonic black hole with an integer charge is not stable and can decay into a magnetic…
We discuss dyonic black hole solutions in the case of $f(R)$-gravity coupled with a dilaton and two gauge bosons. The study of such a model is highly motivated from string theory. Our Black Hole solutions are extensions of the one firstly studied by Kallosh, Linde, Ortín, Peet and Van Proyen (KLOPV) in [arXiv:hep-th/9205027]. We will show that extreme solutions are unstable. In particular, these solutions have Bousso-Hawking-Nojiri-Odintsov (anti)evaporation instabilities.
We study Einstein-Born-Infeld gravity and construct the dyonic (A)dS planar black holes in general even dimensions, that carry both the electric charge and magnetic fluxes along the planar space. In four dimensions, the solution can be constructed with also spherical and hyperbolic topologies. We study the black hole thermodynamics and obtain the first law. We also classify the singularity structure.

Dyonic black hole solutions with spherically symmetric configurations within general relativity are investigated where the source of the gravitational field is Born - Infeld-type electrodynamics. Corrections to Coulomb's law and Reissner - Nordstrom solutions are obtained. From principles of causality and unitarity we find the restriction on electric and magnetic fields. The Hawking temperature and the heat capacity of black holes are obtained. At some event horizons second-order phase transitions take place.
A new dyonic solution for black holes with spherically symmetric configurations in general relativity is obtained. We study black holes possessing electric and magnetic charges, and the source of the gravitational field is electromagnetic fields obeying the logarithmic electrodynamics. This particular form of nonlinear electrodynamics is of interest because of its simplicity. Corrections to Coulomb's law and Reissner-Nordstrom solution are found. We calculate the Hawking temperature of black holes and show that second-order phase transitions occur for some parameters of the model.
Here we study the global existence of `hairy' dyonic black hole and dyon solutions to four dimensional, anti-de Sitter Einstein-Yang-Mills theories for a general simply-connected and semisimple gauge group $G$, for so-called topologically symmetric systems, concentrating here on the regular case. We generalise here cases in the literature which considered purely magnetic spherically symmetric solutions for a general gauge group and topological dyonic solutions for $\mathfrak{su}(N)$. We are able to establish the global existence of non-trivial solutions to all such systems, both near existing …
Quasitopological electromagnetism has an important influence on the strong gravity of dyonic black hole. For example three photon spheres with one being stable are found and we wish to test them with the observed black hole shadow. We are primarily concerned with the thermodynamics and phase transition for a dyonic anti-de Sitter (AdS) black hole when the quasitopological electromagnetism is included.Unlike in a black hole solution without quasitopological electromagnetism, we observe a triple point phase structure by varying the coupling parameters. Of particular interest, for certain paramet…
We study the spontaneous pair production of scalar dyons in the near extremal dyonic Kerr-Newman (KN) black hole, which contains a warped AdS$_3$ structure in the near horizon region. The leading term contribution of the pair production rate and the absorption cross section ratio are also calculated using the Hamilton-Jacobi approach and the thermal interpretation is given. In addition, the holographic dual conformal field theories (CFTs) descriptions of the pair production rate and absorption cross section ratios are analyzed both in the $J$-, $Q$- and $P$-pictures respectively based on the t…
In this paper, we consider dyonic charged AdS black hole which is holographic dual of a van der Waals fluid. We use logarithmic corrected entropy and study thermodynamics of the black hole and show that holographic picture is still valid. Critical behaviors and stability also discussed. Logarithmic corrections arises due to thermal fluctuations which are important when size of black hole be small. So, thermal fluctuations interpreted as quantum effect. It means that we can see quantum effect of a black hole which is a gravitational system.
