We construct a two-parametric family of exactly solvable Dirac Hamiltonians by the Darboux transformation method. We obtain intertwining relations between different members of the Hamiltonian family. We investigate the spectral properties of the obtained Hamiltonians and the explicit forms of their eigenfunctions.
A new exactly solvable relativistic periodic potential is obtained by the periodic extension of a well-known transparent scalar potential. It is found that the energy band edges are determined by a transcendental equation which is very similar to the corresponding equation for the Dirac Kronig-Penney model. The solutions of the Dirac equation are expressed in terms of elementary functions.
The Dirac oscillator coupled to an external two-component field can retain its solvability, if couplings are appropriately chosen. This provides a new class of integrable systems. A simplified way of solution is given, by recasting the known solution of the Dirac oscillator into matrix form; there one notices, that a block-diagonal form arises in a Hamiltonian formulation. The blocks are two-dimensional. Choosing couplings that do not affect the block structure, these just blow up the $2 \times 2$ matrices to $4 \times 4 $ matrices, thus conserving solvability. The result can be cast again in …
We use 1+1 dimensional large N Gross-Neveu models as a laboratory to derive microscopically effective Lagrangians for positive energy fermions only. When applied to baryons, the Euler-Lagrange equation for these effective theories assumes the form of a non-linear Dirac equation. Its solution reproduces the full semi-classical results including the Dirac sea to any desired accuracy. Dynamical effects from the Dirac sea are encoded in higher order derivative terms and multi-fermion interactions with perturbatively calculable, finite coefficients. Characteristic differences between models with di…
A massless Dirac particle is considered, moving along the x-axis while Pauli-coupled by its anomalous magnetic moment to a piecewise constant magnetic field along the same axis, with stochastically varying sign. The motion is approximated as a quantum walk with unitary noise, for which the evolution can be found exactly. Initially ballistic, the motion approaches a classical diffusion on a time-scale determined by the speed of light, the size of the magnetic moment, the strength of the field and the time interval between changes in its direction. It is suggested that a process of this type cou…
We demonstrate that neutral Dirac particles in external electric fields, which are equivalent to generalized Dirac oscillators, are physical examples of quasi-exactly solvable systems. Electric field configurations permitting quasi-exact solvability of the system based on the $sl(2)$ symmetry are discussed separately in spherical, cylindrical, and Cartesian coordinates. Some exactly solvable field configurations are also exhibited.
A special class of Dirac-Pauli equations with time-like vector potentials of external field is investigated. A new exactly solvable relativistic model describing anomalous interaction of a neutral Dirac fermion with a cylindrically symmetric external e.m. field is presented. The related external field is a superposition of the electric field generated by a charged infinite filament and the magnetic field generated by a straight line current. In non-relativistic approximation the considered model is reduced to the integrable Pron'ko-Stroganov model.
We consider exact/quasi-exact solvability of Dirac equation with a Lorentz scalar potential based on factorizability of the equation. Exactly solvable and $sl(2)$-based quasi-exactly solvable potentials are discussed separately in Cartesian coordinates for a pure Lorentz potential depending only on one spatial dimension, and in spherical coordinates in the presence of a Dirac monopole.
A method to construct non-Dirac-hermitian supersymmetric quantum system that is isospectral with a Dirac-hermitian Hamiltonian is presented. The general technique involves a realization of the basic canonical (anti-)commutation relations involving both bosonic and fermionic degrees of freedom in terms of non-Dirac-hermitian operators which are hermitian in a Hilbert space that is endowed with a pre-determined positive-definite metric. A pseudo-hermitian realization of the Clifford algebra for a pre-determined positive-definite metric is used to construct supersymmetric systems with one or many…
We present a gauge independent Lagrangian method of abstracting the reduced space of a solvable model with Gribov-like ambiguity, recently proposed by Friedberg, Lee, Pang and Ren. The reduced space is found to agree with the explicit solutions obtained by these authors. Complications related to gauge fixing are analysed. The Gribov ambiguity manifests by a nonuniqueness in the canonical transformations mapping the hamiltonian in the afflicted gauge with that obtained gauge independently. The operator ordering problem in this gauge is investigated and a prescription is suggested so that the re…
The Dirac equation for an electron in two spatial dimensions in the Coulomb and homogeneous magnetic fields is an example of the so-called quasi-exactly solvable models. The solvable parts of its spectrum was previously solved from the recursion relations. In this work we present a purely algebraic solution based on the Bethe ansatz equations. It is realised that, unlike the corresponding problems in the Schrödinger and the Klein-Gordon case, here the unknown parameters to be solved for in the Bethe ansatz equations include not only the roots of wave function assumed, but also a parameter from…
We consider optical systems where propagation of light can be described by a Dirac-like equation with $PT$-symmetric Hamiltonian. In order to construct exactly solvable configurations, we extend the confluent Crum-Darboux transformation for the one-dimensional Dirac equation. The properties of the associated intertwining operators are discussed and the explicit form for higher-order transformations is presented. We utilize the results to derive a multi-parametric class of exactly solvable systems where the balanced gain and loss represented by the $PT$-symmetric refractive index can imply loca…
In this paper, we present in detail consistent QED (and scalar QED) calculations of particle creation effects in external electromagnetic field that correspond to three most important exactly solvable cases of t-electric potential steps: Sauter-like electric field, T-constant electric field, and exponentially growing and decaying electric fields. In all these cases, we succeeded to obtain new results, such as calculations in modified configurations of the above mentioned steps and detailed considerations of new limiting cases in already studied before steps. As was recently discovered by us, t…
The generalized Dirac oscillator as one of the exact solvable model in quantum mechanics was introduced in 2+1-dimensional world in this paper. What is more, the general expressions of the exact solutions for these models with the inverse cubic, quartic, quintic and sixtic power potentials in radial Dirac equation were further given by means of the Bethe ansatz method. And finally, the corresponding exact solutions in this paper were further discussed.
We demonstrate the existence of a new topologically ordered phase in Kitaev's honeycomb lattice model. This new phase appears due to the presence of a vortex lattice and it supports chiral Abelian anyons. We characterize the phase by its low-energy behavior that is described by a distinct number of Dirac fermions. We identify two physically distinct types of topological phase transitions and obtain analytically the critical behavior of the extended phase space. The Fermi surface evolution associated with the transitions is shown to be due to the Dirac fermions coupling to chiral gauge fields. …
A class of non-Dirac-hermitian many-particle quantum systems admitting entirely real spectra and unitary time-evolution is presented. These quantum models are isospectral with Dirac-hermitian systems and are exactly solvable. The general method involves a realization of the basic canonical commutation relations defining the quantum system in terms of operators those are hermitian with respect to a pre-determined positive definite metric in the Hilbert space. Appropriate combinations of these operators result in a large number of pseudo-hermitian quantum systems admitting entirely real spectra …
We classify all Hamiltonians with rank 1 symmetry, acting on a periodic three-state spin chain, and solvable through (generalisation of) the coordinate Bethe ansatz (CBA). We obtain in this way four multi-parametric extensions of the known 19-vertex Hamiltonians (such as Zamolodchikov-Fateev, Izergin-Korepin, Bariev Hamiltonians). Apart from the 19-vertex Hamiltonians, there exists 17-vertex and 14-vertex Hamiltonians that cannot be viewed as subcases of the 19-vertex ones. In the case of 17-vertex Hamiltonian, we get a generalization of the genus 5 special branch found by Martins, plus three …
A method to construct non-dissipative non-Dirac-hermitian relativistic quantum system that is isospectral with a Dirac-hermitian Hamiltonian is presented. The general technique involves a realization of the basic canonical (anti-)commutation relations involving the Dirac matrices and the bosonic degrees of freedom in terms of non-Dirac-hermitian operators, which are hermitian in a Hilbert space that is endowed with a pre-determined positive-definite metric. Several examples of exactly solvable non-dissipative non-Dirac-hermitian relativistic quantum systems are presented by establishing/employ…
We construct the new one-dimensional Dirac Hamiltonians that are spectrally isomorphic (not isospectral) with the known exactly solvable models. Explicit formulas for their spectra and eigenstates are provided. The operators are utilized for description of Dirac fermions in graphene in presence of an inhomogeneous electromagnetic field. We discuss explicit, physically relevant, examples of spectrally isomorphic systems with both non-periodic and periodic electromagnetic barriers. In the latter case, spectrally isomorphic two- and three-gap systems associated with the Ablowitz-Kaup-Newell-Segur…
We study the quantum behaviour of a particle moving in a one-dimensional double well potential. This double well is obtained by gluing together, at the origin, two shifted harmonic oscillator potentials. The Schrödinger equation is exactly solvable. The requirement that discontinuities, in the wavefunction and its first derivative, are absent at the origin, leads to the quantisation of the energy eigenvalues. We also show that oscillations in time take place between two nearby single harmonic oscillator ground states. Finally, the double well potential is augmented by a Dirac delta-function po…
We consider the D-dimensional massive dilaton gravity coupled to Maxwell and antisymmetric tensor fields (EMATD). We derive the full separability of this theory in static case. This discloses the core structure of the theory and yields the simple procedure of how to generate integrability classes. As an example we take a certain new class, obtain the two-parametric families of dyonic solutions. It turns out that at some conditions they tend to the D-dimensional dyonic Reissner-Nordström-deSitter solutions but with ``renormalized'' dyonic charge plus a small logarithmic correction. The latter h…
A new exactly solvable case in strong-field quantum electrodynamics with a time-dependent external electric field is presented. The corresponding field is given by an analytic function, which is asymmetric (in contrast to Sauter-like electric field) with respect to the time instant, where it reaches its maximum value, that is why we call it the analytic asymmetric electric field. We managed to exactly solve the Dirac equation with such a field, which made it possible to calculate characteristics of the corresponding vacuum instability nonperturbatively. We construct the so-called in- and out-s…
A class of exactly solvable models describing carbon nanotubes in the presence of an external inhomogeneous magnetic field is considered. The framework of the continuum approximation is employed, where the motion of the charge carriers is governed by the Dirac- Weyl equation. The explicit solution of a particular example is provided. It is shown that these models possess nontrivial integrals of motion that establish N = 2 nonlinear supersymmetry in case of metallic and maximally semiconducting nanotubes. Remarkable stability of energy levels with respect to small fluctuations of longitudinal m…
We study solvable spin chains, one-dimensional massless Dirac fermions, and conformal field theories (CFTs) with sine-square deformation (SSD), in which the Hamiltonian density is modulated by the function $f(x)=\sin^2 (πx/\ell)$, where $x$ is the position and $\ell$ is the length of the system. For the XY chain and the transverse field Ising chain at criticality, it is shown that the ground state of an open system with SSD is identical to that of a uniform chain with periodic boundary conditions. The same holds for the massless Dirac fermions with SSD, corresponding to the continuum limit of …
In a recent paper Bender and Mannheim showed that the unequal-frequency fourth-order derivative Pais-Uhlenbeck oscillator model has a realization in which the energy eigenvalues are real and bounded below, the Hilbert-space inner product is positive definite, and time evolution is unitary. Central to that analysis was the recognition that the Hamiltonian $H_{\rm PU}$ of the model is PT symmetric. This Hamiltonian was mapped to a conventional Dirac-Hermitian Hamiltonian via a similarity transformation whose form was found exactly. The present paper explores the equal-frequency limit of the same…
The exactly solvable eigenproblems in Schrödinger quantum mechanics typically involve the differential "shift operators". In the standard supersymmetric (SUSY) case, the shift operator turns out to be of first order. In this work, I discuss a technique to generate exactly solvable eigenproblems by using second order shift operators. The links between this method and SUSY are analysed. As an example, we show the existence of a two-parametric family of exactly solvable Hamiltonians, which contains the Abraham-Moses potentials as a particular case.
We introduce the new, exactly solvable model of the two-dimensional Dirac fermion in presence of an asymmetric, Pöschl-Teller-like vector potential. Utilizing the translation invariance of the system, the effective one-dimensional stationary equation is brought into the form of the Heun equation and its fundamental solutions are found as an irreducible combination of two Gauss hypergeometric functions. The energy spectrum and the scattering is studied in dependence on the conserved longitudinal momentum as well as on the strength of the coupling.
We present a systematic approach for the separation of variables for the two-dimensional Dirac equation in polar coordinates. The three vector potential, which couple to the Dirac spinor via minimal coupling, along with the scalar potential are chosen to have angular dependence which emanate the Dirac equation to complete separation of variables. Exact solutions are obtained for a class of solvable potentials along with their relativistic spinor wavefunctions. Particular attention is paid to the situation where the potentials are confined to a quantum dot region and are of scalar, vector and p…
By considering a unified treatment, we present quasi exact polynomial solutions to both the Klein-Gordon and Dirac equations with the family of soft-core Coulomb potentials $V_q(r)=-Z/\left(r^q+β^q\right)^{1/q}$, $Z>0$, $β>0$, $q\geq 1$. We consider cases $q=1$ and $q=2$ and show that both cases are reducible to the same basic ordinary differential equation. A systematic and closed form solution to the basic equation is obtain using the Bethe ansatz method. For each case, the expressions for the energies and the allowed parameters are obtained analytically and the wavefunctions are derive in t…
We obtain the full hamiltonian structure for a parametric coupled KdV system. The coupled system arises from four different real basic lagrangians. The associated hamiltonian functionals and the corresponding Poisson structures follow from the geometry of a constrained phase space by using the Dirac approach for constrained systems. The overall algebraic structure for the system is given in terms of two pencils of Poisson structures with associated hamiltonians depending on the parameter of the Poisson pencils. The algebraic construction we present admits the most general space of observables …
We establish a direct connection between inhomogeneous XX spin chains (or free fermion systems with nearest-neighbors hopping) and certain QES models on the line giving rise to a family of weakly orthogonal polynomials. We classify all such models and their associated XX chains, which include two families related to the Lamé (finite gap) quantum potential on the line. For one of these chains, we numerically compute the Rényi bipartite entanglement entropy at half filling and derive an asymptotic approximation thereof by studying the model's continuous limit, which turns out to describe a massl…
Potential algebras can be used effectively in the analysis of the quantum systems. In the article, we focus on the systems described by a separable, 2x2 matrix Hamiltonian of the first order in derivatives. We find integrals of motion of the Hamiltonian that close centrally extended so(3), so(2,1) or oscillator algebra. The algebraic framework is used in construction of physically interesting solvable models described by (2+1) dimensional Dirac equation. It is applied in description of open-cage fullerenes where the energies and wave functions of low-energy charge-carriers are computed. The po…
The nonlinear supersymmetry of one-dimensional systems is investigated in the context of the quantum anomaly problem. Any classical supersymmetric system characterized by the nonlinear in the Hamiltonian superalgebra is symplectomorphic to a supersymmetric canonical system with the holomorphic form of the supercharges. Depending on the behaviour of the superpotential, the canonical supersymmetric systems are separated into the three classes. In one of them the parameter specifying the supersymmetry order is subject to some sort of classical quantization, whereas the supersymmetry of another ex…
We evaluate level spacing and smallest eigenvalue distributions of chiral random matrix ensembles transiting from symplectic or orthogonal to unitary symmetry classes with a crossover parameter rho. As expected from the effective sigma model description, these results can be fitted perfectly to the fundamental or adjoint staggered Dirac spectrum of SU(2) quenched lattice gauge theory under the imaginary chemical potential (twisting) mu. The linear dependence of the parameter rho on mu determines the pion decay constant F as its proportionality constant.
