We present a systematic approach for the separation of variables for the two-dimensional Dirac equation in polar coordinates. The three vector potential, which couple to the Dirac spinor via minimal coupling, along with the scalar potential are chosen to have angular dependence which emanate the Dirac equation to complete separation of variables. Exact solutions are obtained for a class of solvable potentials along with their relativistic spinor wavefunctions. Particular attention is paid to the situation where the potentials are confined to a quantum dot region and are of scalar, vector and pseudo-scalar type. The study of a single charged impurity embedded in a 2D Dirac equation in the presence of a uniform magnetic field was treated as a particular case of our general study.
We show that the Dirac factorization method can be successfully employed to treat problems involving operators raised to a fractional power. The technique we adopt is based on an extension of the Pauli matrices and the properties of the roots of unity. We also comment about the possibility of using the method to linearize evolution equations containing the $n$-th root of differential operators and make a comparison with other techniques involving suitable transforms.
In this work, we have extended the factorization method of scalar shape-invariant Schrö\-din\-ger Hamiltonians to a class of Dirac-like matrix Hamiltonians. The intertwining operators of the Schrödinger equations have been implemented in the Dirac-like shape invariant equations. We have considered also another kind of anti-intertwining operators changing the sign of energy. The Dirac-like Hamiltonians can be obtained from reduction of higher dimensional spin systems. Two examples have been worked out, one obtained from the sphere ${\cal S}^2$ and a second one, having a non-Hermitian character,…
We apply the Dirac factorization method to the nonrelativistic harmonic oscillator and, more in general, to Hamiltonians with a generic potential. It is shown that this procedure naturally leads to a supersymmetric formulation of the problems under study. It is also speculated on the physical meaning underlying this method and it is suggested that the vacuum field fluctuations can be viewed as the spontaneous emission of the associated two-level system, whose quantization is due to the noncommuting nature of the harmonic oscillator canonical variables.
We identify the category of integrable lowest-weight representations of the loop group LG of a compact Lie group G with the linear category of twisted, conjugation-equivariant curved Fredholm complexes on the group G: namely, the twisted, equivariant matrix factorizations of a super-potential built from the loop rotation action on LG. This lifts the isomorphism of K-groups of [FHT1,2, 3] to an equivalence of categories. The construction uses families of Dirac operators.
This work analyzes monolayer graphene in external electromagnetic fields, which is described by the Dirac equation with minimal coupling. Supersymmetric quantum mechanics allows building new Dirac equations with modified magnetic fields. Here, we will use complex factorization energies and iterate the method in order to arrive at Hermitian graphene Hamiltonians. Finally, we compare these results with the matrix supersymmetric quantum mechanics approach.
In this paper the Dirac-Weyl equation on a hyperbolic surface of graphene under magnetic fields is considered. In order to solve this equation analytically for some cases, we will deal with vector potentials symmetric under rotations around the z axis. Instead of using tetrads we will get this equation from a more intuitive point of view by restriction from the Dirac-Weyl equation of an ambient space. The eigenvalues and corresponding eigenfunctions for some magnetic fields are found by means of the factorization method. The existence of a zero energy ground level and its degeneracy is also an…
We study conformal $Spin$-subgeometry of submanifolds in a semi-Riemannian $Spin$-manifold, focusing on conformal $Spin$-manifolds $(M,[h])$ and their Poincaré-Einstein metrics $(X,g_+)$. Our approach is based on the spectral theory of Dirac operator in the ambient $Spin$-manifold, and associated spinor valued meromorphic family of distributions with residues given by the residue family operators $\slashed{D}_N^{res}(h;λ)$ on spinors. We develop basic aspects and properties of $\slashed{D}_N^{res}(h;λ)$ including conformal covariance, factorization properties by conformally covariant operators…
In the context of the composite boson interpretation, we construct the exact general solution of the Dirac--Kähler equation for the case of the spherical Riemann space of constant positive curvature, for which due to the geometry itself one may expect to have a discrete energy spectrum. In the case of the minimal value of the total angular momentum, $j=0$, the radial equations are reduced to second-order ordinary differential equations, which are straightforwardly solved in terms of the hypergeometric functions. For non-zero values of the total angular momentum, however, the radial equations a…
In this paper the inverse scattering problem for the nonstationary Dirac-type system on the whole plane was considered. A nonlinear evolution sytem of equation related to nonstationary Dirac-type system is introduced and the solviblity of this sytem using the IST method is studied.
In this note a simple extension of the complex algebra to higher dimension is proposed. Using the postulated algebra a two dimensional Dirac equation is formulated and its solution is calculated. It is found that there is a sub-algebra where the associative nature can be recovered.
We derive dispersion estimates for solutions of the one-dimensional discrete perturbed Dirac equation. To this end we develop basic scattering theory and establish a limiting absorption principle for discrete perturbed Dirac operators.
For $n\in\{2,3\}$ we prove minimax characterisations of eigenvalues in the gap of the $n$ dimensional Dirac operator with an potential, which may have a Coulomb singularity with a coupling constant up to the critical value $1/(4-n)$. This result implies a so-called Hardy-Dirac inequality, which can be used to define a distinguished self-adjoint extension of the Coulomb-Dirac operator defined on $\mathsf{C}_{0}^{\infty}(\mathbb{R}^n\setminus\{0\};\mathbb{C}^{2(n-1)})$, as long as the coupling constant does not exceed $1/(4-n)$. We also find an explicit description of an operator core of this op…
The Maxwell-Dirac equations with nonzero charge mass in one space dimension are studied under the Lorentz gauge condition. The global existence and uniqueness of solution in $C([0,+\infty);L^2(R^1))\times C_b(R^1 \times [0,\infty))$ for initial value problem of Maxwell-Dirac equations are proved.
In this article we develop energy methods for a large class of linear and nonlinear Dirac-type equations in two-dimensional Minkowski space. We will derive existence results for several Dirac-type equations originating in quantum field theory, in particular for Dirac-wave maps to compact Riemannian manifolds.
