We propose the generalized Luscher formula for multi-magnon states by which one can compute the finite-size correction to the energy of multi giant magnons at classical and one-loop levels. It is shown that the F-term of our formula is consistent with the exact finite-size spectrum of the sinh-Gordon model, and the mu-term agrees with the finite-size energy of magnon boundstate of the asymptotic Bethe Ansatz in the su(2) sector at strong coupling. In an appendix, we evaluate our formula at weak coupling under some approximations, and find that the transcendental terms arise from a sum over an infinite tower of BPS boundstates.
We find the exact solution for a finite size Giant Magnon in the $SU(2)\times SU(2)$ sector of the string dual of the $\mathcal{N}=6$ superconformal Chern-Simons theory recently constructed by Aharony, Bergman, Jafferis and Maldacena. The finite size Giant Magnon solution consists of two magnons, one in each $SU(2)$. In the infinite size limit this solution corresponds to the Giant Magnon solution of arXiv:0806.4959. The magnon dispersion relation exhibits finite-size exponential corrections with respect to the infinite size limit solution.
Magnon interactions give important contributions to the wrapping interactions of the N=4 spin-chain. Similar effects are expected for the finite size corrections to the giant magnon energy in AdS_5 x S^5. In this paper I review the finite gap description of giant magnons and the leading order calculation of the finite size corrections to the giant magnon dispersion relation for multi-magnon states.
We investigate dyonic giant magnons propagating on $γ$-deformed $AdS_5\times S^5$ by Neumann-Rosochatius reduction method with a twisted boundary condition. We compute finite-size effect of the dispersion relations of dyonic giant magnons which generalizes the previously known case of the giant magnons with one angular momentum found by Bykov and Frolov.
The quantization of the giant magnon away from the infinite size limit is discussed. We argue that this quantization inevitably leads to string theory on a Z_M-orbifold of S^5. This is shown explicitly and examined in detail in the near plane-wave limit.
Using finite gap methods, we find the leading order finite size corrections for an arbitrary number of giant magnons on physical strings, where the sum of the momenta is a multiple of 2π. Our results are valid for the Hofman-Maldacena fundamental giant magnons as well as their dyonic generalizations. The energy corrections turn out to be surprisingly simple, especially if all the magnons are fundamental, and at leading order are independent of the magnon flavors. We also show how to use the Bethe ansatz to find finite size corrections for dyonic giant magnons with large R-charges.
We calculate the finite size correction on the three-point correlation function between two giant magnons and one marginal operator. We also check that the structure constant in the string set-up is exactly the same as one of the RG analysis in the gauge theory.
We investigate finite-size giant magnons propagating on γ-deformed AdS_4 x CP^3_γ type IIA string theory background, dual to one parameter deformation of the N=6 super Chern-Simoms-matter theory. Analyzing the finite-size effect on the dispersion relation, we find that it is modified compared to the undeformed case, acquiring γdependence.
We use the algebraic curve and Luscher's mu-term to calculate the leading order finite size corrections to the dispersion relation of giant magnons in the SU(2) x SU(2) sector of AdS_4 x CP^3. We consider a single magnon as well as one magnon in each SU(2). In addition the algebraic curve computation is generalized to give the leading order correction for an arbitrary multi-magnon state in the SU(2) x SU(2) sector.
We studied the finite-size giant magnons in $\text{AdS}_4\times\text{CP}^3_β$ background using the classical spectral curve constructed in this paper. We computed the finite-size corrections to the dispersion relations for the $RP^3$ giant magnons using our twisted algebraic curve based on the method proposed in arXiv:0810.1246, in which the authors computed the finite-size corrections of giant magnons in $\text{AdS}_4\times\text{CP}^3$ by introducing a finite-size resolvent $G_{\text{finite}}(x)$. We obtained exactly the same result as in arXiv:1106.3686, where a totally different approach wa…
In this paper we consider the finite size effects for the strings in β-deformed AdS_{5}\times T^{1,1} background. We analyze the finite size corrections for the cases of giant magnon and single spike string solution. The finite size corrections for the undeformed case are straightforwardly obtained sending the deformation parameter to zero.
We consider strings moving in the R_t x S^3_ηsubspace of the η-deformed AdS_5 x S^5 and obtain a class of solutions depending on several parameters. They are characterized by the string energy and two angular momenta. Finite-size dyonic giant magnon belongs to this class of solutions. Further on, we restrict ourselves to the case of giant magnon with one nonzero angular momentum, and obtain the leading finite-size correction to the dispersion relation.
We compute holographic three-point correlation functions or structure constants of a zero-momentum dilaton operator and two (dyonic) giant magnon string states with a finite-size length in the semiclassical approximation. We show that the semiclassical structure constants match exactly with the three-point functions between two su(2) magnon single trace operators with finite size and the Lagrangian in the large 't Hooft coupling constant limit. A special limit J>>sqrt(lambda) of our result is compared with the relevant result based on the Lüscher corrections.
We compute classical and first quantum finite-size corrections to the recently found giant magnon solutions in two different subspaces of $\mathbb{CP}^3$. We use the Lüscher approach on the recently proposed exact S-matrix for $\mathcal{N}=6$ superconformal Chern-Simons theory. We compare our results with the string and algebraic curve computations and find agreement, thus providing a non-trivial test for the new $AdS_4/CFT_3$ correspondence within an integrability framework.
This paper studies giant magnons in AdS_4 x CP^3 using both the string sigma-model and the algebraic curve. We complete the dictionary of solutions by finding the dyonic generalisation of the CP^1 string solution, which matches the `small' giant magnon in the algebraic curve, and by pointing out that the solution recently constructed by the dressing method is the `big' giant magnon. We then use the curve to compute finite-J corrections to all cases, which for the non-dyonic cases always match the AFZ result. For the dyonic RP^3 magnon we recover the S^5 answer, but for the `small' and `big' gi…
It is shown that the finite size corrections to the spectrum of the giant magnon solution of classical string theory, computed using the uniform light-cone gauge, are gauge invariant and have physical meaning. This is seen in two ways: from a general argument where the single magnon is made gauge invariant by putting it on an orbifold as a wrapped state obeying the level matching condition as well as all other constraints, and by an explicit calculation where it is shown that physical quantum numbers do not depend on the uniform light-cone gauge parameter. The resulting finite size effects are…
We compute finite-size corrections to dyonic giant magnons in two ways. One is by examining the asymptotic behavior of helical strings of hep-th/0609026 as elliptic modulus k goes to unity, and the other is by applying the generalized Luscher formula for mu-term of arXiv:0708.2208 to the situation in which incoming particles are boundstates. By careful choice of poles in the su(2|2)^2-invariant S-matrix, we find agreement of the two results, which makes possible to predict the (leading) finite-size correction for dyonic giant magnons to all orders in the 't Hooft coupling.
We explicitly construct a large class of finite-volume two-magnon string solutions moving on R x S^2. In particular, by making use of the relationship between the O(3) sigma model and sine-Gordon theory we are able to find solutions corresponding to the periodic analogues of magnon scattering and breather-like solutions. After semi-classically quantizing these solutions we invert the implicit expressions for the excitation energies in certain limits and find the corrections for the multi-magnon states. For the breather-like solutions we express the energies directly in terms of the action vari…
We study giant magnon solutions in AdS4 \times CP3. We compute quantum corrections to their dispersion relation. We find out that the one--loop correction vanishes in infinite volume. This implies that the interpolating function h(λ) between strong and weak coupling regimes does not have a constant term λ^0 at strong coupling. We also compute first nonvanishing finite volume correction to the one--loop expression. When compared to the Lüsher formula, our results could provide a nontrivial check of the AdS4 \times CP3 S--matrix proposed recently in arXiv:0807.1924.
We consider finite-size effects for the dyonic giant magnon of the type IIA string theory on AdS_4 x CP^3 by applying Luscher mu-term formula which is derived from a recently proposed S-matrix for the N=6 super Chern-Simons theory. We compute explicitly the effect for the case of a symmetric configuration where the two external bound states, each of A and B particles, have the same momentum p and spin J_2. We compare this with the classical string theory result which we computed by reducing it to the Neumann-Rosochatius system. The two results match perfectly.
We compute quantum corrections to finite-size effects for various dyonic giant magnons in the AdS_4 x CP^3 in two different approaches. The off-shell algebraic curve method is used to quantize the classical string configurations in semi-classical way and to compute the corrections to the string energies. These results are compared with the F-term Lüscher formula based on the S-matrix of the AdS_4 / CFT_3. The fact that the two results match exactly provides another stringent test for the all-loop integrability conjecture and the exact S-matrix based on it.
In the framework of the semiclassical approach, we compute the normalized structure constants in three-point correlation functions, when two of the vertex operators correspond to "heavy" string states, while the third vertex corresponds to a "light" state. This is done for the case when the "heavy" string states are finite-size giant magnons, carrying one or two angular momenta. The "light" states are taken to be singlet scalar operators on higher string levels. We first consider the case of string theory on AdS_5xS^5 dual to N = 4 super Yang-Mills. Then we extend the obtained results to the g…
In order to analyze finite-size effects for the gauge-fixed string sigma model on AdS_5 x S^5, we construct one-soliton solutions carrying finite angular momentum J. In the infinite J limit the solutions reduce to the recently constructed one-magnon configuration of Hofman and Maldacena. The solutions do not satisfy the level-matching condition and hence exhibit a dependence on the gauge choice, which however disappears as the size J is taken to infinity. Interestingly, the solutions do not conserve all the global charges of the psu(2,2|4) algebra of the sigma model, implying that the symmetry…
We obtain the giant magnon of Hofman-Maldacena and its dyonic generalisation on R x S^3 < AdS_5 x S^5 from the general elliptic finite-gap solution by degenerating its elliptic spectral curve into a singular curve. This alternate description of giant magnons as finite-gap solutions associated to singular curves is related through a symplectic transformation to their already established description in terms of condensate cuts developed in hep-th/0606145.
In this paper we have found a classical giant magnon-like solution with both infinite and finite angular momentum moving in Sch_5 x S^5 with B-field, which is believed to be dual to dipole-deformed N=4 super Yang-Mills theory. This string state propagates as a point particle in non-trivial subspace of the Sch_5 space but shows a giant magnon-like property in the S^2 subspace. We derive the energy-momentum dispersion relations and their finite-size correction for the case of finite but large angular momentum.
In the framework of the semiclassical approach, we compute the normalized structure constants in three-point correlation functions, when two of the vertex operators correspond to heavy string states, while the third vertex corresponds to a light state. This is done for the case when the heavy string states are finite-size giant magnons with one or two angular momenta, and for two different choices of the light state, corresponding to dilaton operator and primary scalar operator. The relevant operators in the dual gauge theory are Tr(F_{μν}^2 Z^j+...) and Tr(Z^j). We first consider the case of …
We construct the full set of boundary giant magnons on $\mathbb{R}\times S^{2}$ attached to the maximal $Z=0$ giant graviton by mapping from the general solution to static sine-Gordon theory on the interval and compute the values of $Δ-J$ at finite $J$, including the leading order corrections when $J$ is large. We then consider the Born-Infeld theory of the giant graviton itself to construct BIon spike solutions that correspond to the world volume description of the boundary giant magnons at finite $J$.
Recently important classes of solitonic string solutions were obtained - giant magnons and single spikes. In previous study we showed the existence of giant magnon-like membrane solutions and studied their properties. In this paper we investigate classical rotating membranes representing analog of a specific class of string spiky solutions. Using the reduction to the Neumann-Rosochatius integrable system we find analog of the string single spike solutions. In contrast to the magnon-like solutions, this case is characterized with finite difference of energy and ``winding number'' and finite spi…
We derive generalized Luscher formulas for finite size corrections in a theory with a general dispersion relation. For the AdS_5xS^5 superstring these formulas encode leading wrapping interaction effects. We apply the generalized mu-term formula to calculate finite size corrections to the dispersion relation of the giant magnon at strong coupling. The result exactly agrees with the classical string computation of Arutyunov, Frolov and Zamaklar. The agreement involved a Borel resummation of all even loop-orders of the BES/BHL dressing factor thus providing a strong consistency check for the cho…
We consider the most general string configurations on the R_t x S^3 subspace of AdS_5 xS^5, described by the Neumann-Rosochatius integrable system. Under some restrictions on the parameters of the solution and in an appropriate limit, they correspond to small deviation from the known finite-size giant magnon solutions with one and two angular momenta. Analyzing the finite-size effect on the dispersion relation, we find that the leading correction is modified in a way similar to the gamma-deformed case R_t x S^3_gamma. The subleading correction for a string with one angular momentum is also fou…
We generalize the one magnon solution in R X S^2 to unbounded M magnon and find the corresponding solitonic string configuration in the string sigma model. This configuration gives rise to the expected dispersion relation obtained from the spin chain model in the large 't Hooft coupling limit. After considering (M,M) multi-magnon or spike on R X S^2 X S^2 as a subspace of AdS(5)XS^5 or AdS(4)XCP^3, we investigate the dispersion relation and the finite size effect for (M,M) multi-magnon or spike.
Understanding the finite-size corrections to the fundamental excitations of a theory is the first step towards completely solving for the spectrum in finite volume. We compute the leading exponential correction to the quantum energy of the fundamental excitation of the light-cone gauged string in AdS(5) x S(5), which is the giant magnon solution. We present two independent ways to obtain this correction: the first approach makes use of the algebraic curve description of the giant magnon. The second relies on the purely field-theoretical Luscher formulas, which depend on the world-sheet S-matri…
We compute both classical and quantum finite-size corrections at leading order in the strong coupling limit for the (dyonic) giant magnon in the Lunin-Maldacena background. Based on the exact S-martix conjectured for the deformed theory, we generalize the Luscher formula to include twisted boundary conditions and show that the results match with those derived both by finite-size classical solutions of the giant magnon and by algebraic curve analysis.
We study classical and quantum finite-size corrections to giant magnons in AdS_4 x CP^3 using generalised Lüscher formulae. Lüscher F-terms are organised in powers of the exponential suppression factor exp(-Delta/2h)^m, and we calculate all terms in this series, matching one-loop algebraic curve results from our previous paper arXiv:1006.2174. Starting with the second term, the structure of these terms is different to those in AdS_5 x S^5 thanks to the appearance of heavy modes in the loop, which can here be interpreted as two-particle bound states in the mirror theory. By contrast, physical b…
In this paper we give a new derivation of the generalized Luscher F-term formula from a summation over quadratic fluctuations around a given soliton. The result is very general providing that S-matrix is diagonal and is valid for arbitrary dispersion relation. We then apply this formalism to compute the leading finite size corrections to the giant magnon dispersion relation coming from quantum fluctuations.
We study finite-size corrections to the magnon dispersion relation in three models which differ from string theory on AdS5 x S5 in their boundary conditions. Asymptotically, this is accomplished by twisting the transfer matrix in a way which manifestly preserves integrability. In model I all world-sheet fields are periodic, whereas model II represents a particular orbifold of AdS5 x S5 and model III is a beta-deformed theory. For models I and II we construct the one-particle TBA equations and use them to determine the leading finite-size correction to the asymptotic Bethe equation. We also mak…
