We consider the energy weighted sums (EWS) for isovector giant dipole resonances (IVGDR) in finite nuclei within Landau kinetic theory. The dependence of both IVGDR energy, $E_{IVGDR}$, and the EWS enhancement factor, $κ(A)$, on the mass number $A$ occurs because of the boundary condition on the moving nuclear surface. The values of $E_{IVGDR}A^{1/3}$ and $κ(A)$ increase with $A$. The obtained value of the enhancement factor is about 10% for light nuclei and reaches approximately 20% for heavy nuclei. A fit of the enhancement factor to the proper experimental data provides a value for the isovector Landau amplitude of $F'_1\simeq 1.1$.
We investigate the collective response function and the energy-weighted sums m_k for isovector mode in hot nuclei. The approach is based on the collisional kinetic theory and takes into consideration the temperature and the relaxation effects. Taking into account a connection between the isovector sound mode and the corresponding surface vibrations we have established the A-dependence of the enhancement factor for the isovector sum rule in a good agreement with experimental data. We have shown that the enhancement factor for the "model independent" sum m_1 is only slightly sensitive to the tem…
We investigate the collective response function and the energy-weighted sums (EWS) $m_k$ for isovector mode in hot nuclei. The approach is based on the collisional kinetic theory and takes into consideration the temperature and the relaxation effects. We have evaluated the temperature dependence of the adiabatic, $E_1=\sqrt{m_1/m_{-1}}$, and scaling, $E_3=\sqrt{m_3/m_1}$, energy centroids of the isovector giant dipole resonances (IVGDR). The centroid energy $E_3$ is significantly influenced by the Fermi surface distortion effects and, in contrast to the isoscalar mode, shows much weaker variat…
A fully consistent relativistic random phase approximation is applied to study the systematic behavior of the isovector giant dipole resonance of nuclei along the $β$-stability line in order to test the effective Lagrangians recently developed. The centroid energies of response functions of the isovector giant dipole resonance for stable nuclei are compared with the corresponding experimental data and the good agreement is obtained. It is found that the effective Lagrangian with an appropriate nuclear symmetry energy, which can well describe the ground state properties of nuclei, could also re…
A fully symmetry unrestricted Time-Dependent Density Functional Theory extended to include pairing correlations is used to calculate properties of the isovector giant dipole resonances of the deformed open-shell nuclei 172Yb (axially deformed), 188Os (triaxially deformed), and 238U (axially deformed), and to demonstrate good agreement with experimental data on nuclear photo-absorption cross-sections for two different Skyrme force parametrizations of the energy density functional: SkP and SLy4.
We have studied the uncharacteristic behavior of the measured values of the isoscalar and isovector centroid energies, ECEN, of giant resonances with multipolarity L=0-3 in 44Ca, 54Fe, 64,68Zn and 56,58,60,68Ni. For this purpose, we carried out calculations of ECEN within the spherical Hartree-Fock (HF)-based random phase approximation (RPA) theory with 33 different Skyrme-type effective nucleon-nucleon interactions. We have also determined the Pearson linear correlation coefficients between the calculated centroid energies and the various nuclear matter (NM) properties associated with each in…
We motivate and summarise some recent results in the application of formally exact boundary conditions in nuclear time-dependent Hartree-Fock calculations, making use of Laplace transformations to calculate the values of the wave functions at the boundaries. We have realised the method in the case of giant monopole resonances of spherically-symmetric nuclei, and present strength functions of O-16 and Ca-40 using a simplified version of the Skyrme force, showing that no artefacts from discretisation occur as contaminants
The remaining uncertainties of isovector nuclear interactions call for reliable experimental measurements of isovector probes in finite nuclei. Based on the Bayesian analysis, although the neutron-skin thickness data or the isovector giant dipole resonance data in $^{208}$Pb can constrain only one isovector interaction parameter, correlations between other parameters are built. Using combined data of both the neutron-skin thickness and the isovector giant dipole resonance helps to constrain significantly all isovector interaction parameters, thus serves as a useful way in the future analysis.
Model independent, $m_1$, adiabatic, $m_{-1}$, and high-energy, $m_3$, energy weighted sums for the isoscalar and isovector nuclear excitations are investigated within the framework of the kinetic theory adopted to the description of a two-component nuclear Fermi-liquid. For both the adiabatic and scaling approaches, the connection of the EWS $m_{-1}$ and $m_3$ to the nuclear stiffness coefficients and the first- and zero-sound velocity is established. We study the enhancement factor $κ_{I}$ in the energy weighted sum $m'_1$ for the isovector excitations and provide the reasonable explanation …
We put a stringent constraint on the isovector nuclear interactions in the Skyrme-Hartree-Fock model from the centroid energy $E_{-1}$ of the isovector giant dipole resonance in $^{208}$Pb as well as its electric polarizability $α_D$. Using the Bayesian analysis method, $E_{-1}$ and $α_D$ are found to be mostly determined by the nuclear symmetry energy $E_{sym}$ at about $ρ^\star=0.05$ fm$^{-3}$ and the isovector nucleon effective mass $m_v^\star$ at the saturation density. At $90\%$ confidence level, we obtain $E_{sym}(ρ^\star) = 16.4 ^{+1.0}_{-0.9}$ MeV and $m_v^\star/m = 0.79 ^{+0.06}_{-0.0…
The giant collective modes in asymmetric nuclear matter are investigated within a dynamic relaxation time approximation. We derive a coupled dispersion relation and show that two sources of coupling appear: (i) a coupling of isoscalar and isovector modes due to different mean-fields acting and (ii) an explicit new coupling in asymmetric matter due to collisional interaction. We show that the latter one is responsible for a new mode arising besides isovector and isoscalar modes.
The assumption of an exact isospin symmetry would imply equal strengths for mirror E1 transitions (at least, in the long-wavelength limit). Actually, large violations of this symmetry rule have been indicated by a number of experimental results, the last of which is the 67As - 67Se doublet investigated at GAMMASPHERE. Here, we examine in detail various possible origins of the observed asymmetry. The coherent effect of Coulomb-induced mixing with the high-lying Giant Isovector Monopole Resonance is proposed as the most probable process to produce a large asymmetry in the E1 transitions, with co…
The isoscalar (IS) and isovector (IV) quadrupole responses of nuclei are systematically investigated using the time-dependent Skyrme Energy Density Functional including pairing in the BCS approximation. Using two different Skyrme functionals, Sly4 and SkM*, respectively 263 and 304 nuclei have been found to be spherical along the nuclear charts. The time-dependent evolution of these nuclei has been systematically performed giving access to their quadrupole responses. It is shown that the mean-energy of the collective high energy state globally reproduces the experimental IS and IV collective e…
The effects of ground-state correlations on the damping of isovector giant dipole resonances in $LS$ closed shell nuclei $^{16}$O and $^{40}$Ca are studied using extended random-phase-approximation (RPA) approaches derived from the time-dependent density-matrix theory. It is pointed out that unconventional two-body amplitudes of one particle--three hole and three particle--one hole types which are neglected in most extended RPA theories play an important role in the fragmentation of isovector dipole strength.
The dynamics of monopole giant resonances in nuclei is analyzed in the time-dependent relativistic mean-field model. The phase spaces of isoscalar and isovector collective oscillations are reconstructed from the time-series of dynamical variables that characterize the proton and neutron density distributions. The analysis of the resulting recurrence plots and correlation dimensions indicate regular motion for the isoscalar mode, and chaotic dynamics for the isovector oscillations. Information-theoretic functionals identify and quantify the nonlinear dynamics of giant resonances in quantum syst…
The isoscalar and isovector particle densities and the surface tension coefficients at the average binding energy are used to derive analytical expressions of the neutron skin thickness and the isovector stiffness of sharp edged proton-neutron asymmetric nuclei. For most Skyrme forces these quantities are significantly larger than the well known ones. Using the analytical isovector surface energy constants in the framework of the hydrodynamical and the Fermi-liquid droplet models the mean energies and the sum rules of the isovector giant dipole resonances are in fair agreement with the experim…
The rate of phase-space exploration in the decay of isovector and isoscalar giant quadrupole resonances in $^{40}$Ca is analyzed. The study is based on the time dependence of the survival probability and of the spectrum of generalized entropies evaluated in the space of 1p-1h and 2p-2h states. If the 2p-2h background shows the characteristics typical for chaotic systems, the isovector excitation evolves almost statistically while the isoscalar excitation remains largely localized, even though it penetrates the whole available phase space.
An interaction $-χQ\cdot Q(1+B\vecτ(1)\cdot \vecτ(2))$ is used in a shell model calculation for $^{10}Be$. Whereas for $B=0$ the $2_1^+$ state is two-fold degenerate, introducing a negative $B$ causes an `isovector' $2^+$ state to come down to zero energy at $B=-0.67$ and an $S=1~L=1$ triplet ($J=0^+,~1^+,~2^+$) to come down to zero energy at $B=-0.73$. These are undesirable properties, but a large negative $B$ is apparently needed to fit the energy of the isovector giant quadrupole resonance.
[Background] Giant resonance (GR) is a typical collective mode of vibration. The deformation splitting of the isovector (IV) giant dipole resonance is well established. However, the splitting of GRs with other multipolarities is not well understood. [Purpose] I explore the IV monopole and quadrupole excitations and attempt to obtain the generic features of IV giant resonances in deformed nuclei by investigating the neutral and charge-exchange channels simultaneously. [Method] I employ a nuclear energy-density functional (EDF) method: the Skyrme-Kohn-Sham-Bogoliubov and the quasiparticle random…
Recent improvements in the experimental determination of properties of the Isovector Giant Quadrupole Resonance (IVGQR), as demonstrated in the A=208 mass region, may be instrumental for characterizing the isovector channel of the effective nuclear interaction. We analyze properties of the IVGQR in 208Pb, using both macroscopic and microscopic approaches. The microscopic method is based on families of non-relativistic and covariant Energy Density Functionals (EDF), characterized by a systematic variation of isoscalar and isovector properties of the corresponding nuclear matter equations of sta…
The structure of the isovector dipole resonance in neutron-rich calcium isotope, $^{60}Ca$, has been investigated by implementing a careful treatment of the differences of neutron and proton radii in the continuum random phase approximation ($RPA$). The calculations have taken into account the current estimates of the neutron skin. The estimates of the escape widths for direct neutron decay from the pygmy dipole resonance ($PDR$) were shown rather wide, implicating a strong coupling to the continuum. The width of the giant dipole resonance ($GDR$) was evaluated, bringing on a detailed discussi…
The systematic study of isoscalar (IS) and isovector (IV) giant quadrupole responses (GQR) in normal and superfluid nuclei presented in [G. Scamps and D. Lacroix, Phys. Rev. 88, 044310 (2013)] is extended to the case of axially deformed and triaxial nuclei. The static and dynamical energy density functional based on Skyrme effective interaction are used to study static properties and dynamical response functions over the whole nuclear chart. Among the 749 nuclei that are considered, 301 and 65 are respectively found to be prolate and oblate while 54 do not present any symmetry axis. For these …
From a Bayesian analysis of the electric dipole polarizability, the constrained energy of isovector giant dipole resonance, the peak energy of isocalar giant quadrupole resonance and the constrained energy of isocalar giant monopole resonance in $^{208}$Pb, we extract the isoscalar and isovector effective masses in nuclear matter at saturation density $ρ_0$ as $m_{s,0}^{\ast}/m=0.87_{-0.04}^{+0.04}$ and $m_{v,0}^{\ast}/m = 0.78_{-0.05}^{+0.06}$ at $90\%$ confidence level. The obtained constraints on $m_{s,0}^{\ast}$ and $m_{v,0}^{\ast}$ lead to a positive isospin splitting of nucleon effective…
The dynamic coupling between giant resonance states and "soft", low-energy excitation, modes in weakly-bound nuclei is investigated. A coupled-channels calculation is reported for the reaction 8B + Pb --> p + 7Be + Pb at 83 MeV/nucleon. It is shown that the low-energy response is only marginally modified by transitions to the isovector giant dipole and isoscalar giant quadrupole resonances.
Proton inelastic scattering experiments at energy E_p = 200 MeV and a spectrometer scattering angle of 0 degree were performed on 144,146,148,150Nd and 152Sm exciting the IsoVector Giant Dipole Resonance (IVGDR). Comparison with results from photo-absorption experiments reveals a shift of resonance maxima towards higher energies for vibrational and transitional nuclei. The extracted photo-absorption cross sections in the most deformed nuclei, 150Nd and 152Sm, exhibit a pronounced asymmetry rather than a distinct double-hump structure expected as a signature of K-splitting. This behaviour can b…
We study the information content carried by the electric dipole strength with respect to isovector and isoscalar indicators characterizing bulk nuclear matter and finite nuclei. To separate isoscalar and isovector modes, and low-energy strength and giant resonances, we analyze the E1 strength as a function of excitation energy $E$ and momentum transfer $q$. We use the self-consistent nuclear density functional theory with Skyrme energy density functionals, augmented by the random phase, to compute the E1 strength, and covariance analysis to assess correlations between observables. Calculations…
We argue that a substantial increase in the cross section for Coulomb excitation in the region of the Double Giant Dipole Resonance should be expected from Coulomb excitation of excited states involved in the spreading of the one-phonon resonance, in a manifestation of the Brink-Axel phenomenon. This generates an additional fluctuating amplitude and a corresponding new term to be added incoherently to the usual cross-section. The appropriate extension of an applicable reaction calculation is considered in order to estimate this effect.
A semi-microscopic approach based on the continuum-RPA method and a phenomenological treatment of the spreading effect is developed and applied to describe direct-decay properties of a few isovector giant resonances. Capabilities of the approach to describe giant-resonance gross properties are also checked.
Despite a great success of the Skyrme mean-field approach in exploration of nuclear dynamics, it seems to fail in description of the spin-flip M1 giant resonance. The results for different Skyrme parameterizations are contradictory and poorly agree with experiment. In particular, there is no parameterization which simultaneously describes the one-peak gross structure of M1 strength in doubly magic nuclei and two-peak structure in heavy deformed nuclei. The reason of this mismatch could lie in an unsatisfactory treatment of spin correlations and spin-orbit interaction. We discuss the present st…
Double-dipole excitations in ^{208}Pb are analyzed within a microscopic model explicitly treating 2p2h-excitations. Collective states built from such 2p2h-excitations are shown to appear at about twice the energy of the isovector giant dipole resonance, in agreement with the experimental findings. The calculated cross section for Coulomb excitation at relativistic energies cannot explain simultaneously the measured single-dipole and double-dipole cross sections, however.
The fine structure of the IsoVector Giant Dipole Resonance (IVGDR) in the doubly-magic nuclei $^{40,48}$Ca observed in inelastic proton scattering experiments under $0^\circ$ is used to investigate the role of different mechanisms contributing to the IVGDR decay width. Characteristic energy scales are extracted from the fine structure by means of wavelet analysis. The experimental scales are compared to different theoretical approaches allowing for the inclusion of complex configurations beyond the mean-field level. Calculations are performed in the framework of RPA and beyond-RPA in a relativ…
Time-odd densities and their effect on electric giant resonances are investigated within the self-consistent separable random-phase-approximation (SRPA) model for various Skyrme forces (SkT6, SkO, SkM*, SIII, SGII, SLy4, SLy6, SkI3). Time-odd densities restore Galilean invariance of the Skyrme functional, violated by the effective-mass and spin-orbital terms. In even-even nuclei these densities do not contribute to the ground state but can affect the dynamics. As a particular case, we explore the role of the current density in description of isovector E1 and isoscalar E2 giant resonances in a …
We formulate the self-consistent separable random-phase-approximation (SRPA) method and specify it for Skyrme forces with pairing for the case of axially symmetric deformed nuclei. The factorization of the residual interaction allows to avoid diagonalization of high-rank RPA matrices, which dramatically reduces the computational expense. This advantage is crucial for the systems with a huge configuration space, first of all for deformed nuclei. SRPA takes self-consistently into account the contributions of both time-even and time-odd Skyrme terms as well as of the Coulomb force and pairing. Th…
The nuclear giant resonances are studied by using a Fermi-liquid method, and the nuclear collective excitation energies of different values of $l$ are obtained, which are fitted with the centroid energies of the giant resonances of spherical nuclei, respectively. In addition, the relation between the isovector giant resonance and the corresponding isoscalar giant resonance is discussed.
Some aspects, both experimental and theoretical, of extracting the neutron skin $ΔR$ from properties of isovector giant resonances are discussed. Existing proposals are critically reviewed. The method relying on the energy difference between the GTR and IAS is shown to lack sensitivity to $ΔR$. A simple explanation of the linear relation between the symmetry energy and the neutron skin is also given.
Within a Bayesian statistical framework using the standard Skyrme-Hartree-Fock model, the maximum {\it a posteriori} (MAP) values and uncertainties of nuclear matter incompressibility and isovector interaction parameters are inferred from the experimental data of giant resonances and neutron-skin thicknesses of typical heavy nuclei. With the uncertainties of the isovector interaction parameters constrained by the data of the isovector giant dipole resonance and the neutron-skin thickness, we have obtained $K_0 = 223_{-8}^{+7}$ MeV at 68% confidence level using the data of the isoscalar giant m…
We study the couplings between collective vibrations such as the isovector giant dipole and isoscalar giant quadrupole resonances in tin isotopes in the framework of the time-dependent Hartree-Fock theory with a Skyrme energy density functional. These couplings are a source of anharmonicity in the multiphonon spectrum. In particular, the residual interaction is known to couple the isovector giant dipole resonance with the isoscalar giant quadrupole resonance built on top of it, inducing a nonlinear evolution of the quadrupole moment after a dipole boost. This coupling also affects the dipole m…
We develop a new formulation of the continuum quasiparticle random phase approximation (QRPA) in which the residual interaction is derived directly from the Skyrme energy functional, keeping all the velocity dependent terms of the Skyrme effective interaction. Numerical analysis using the SkM$^*$ parameter set is performed for the isovector dipole and the isovector/isoscalar quadrupole responses in $^{20}$O and $^{54}$Ca. It is shown that the energy-weighted sum rule including the enhancement factors for the isovector responses is satisfied with good accuracy. We investigate also how the veloc…
The relativistic mean-field theory provides a framework in which the nuclear many-body problem is described as a self-consistent system of nucleons and mesons. In the mean-field approximation, the self-consistent time evolution of the nuclear system describes the dynamics of collective motion: nuclear compressibility from monopole resonances, regular and chaotic dynamics of isoscalar and isovector collective vibrations.
Isovector and isoscalar dipole excitations in $^9$Be and $^{10}$Be are investigated in the framework of antisymmetrized molecular dynamics, in which angular-momentum and parity projections are performed. In the present method, 1p-1h excitations on the ground state and large amplitude $α$-cluster mode are incorporated. The isovector giant dipole resonance (GDR) in $E>20$ MeV shows the two peak structure which is understood by the dipole excitation in the 2$α$ core part with the prolate deformation. Because of valence neutron modes against the $2α$ core, low-energy E1 resonances appear in $E<20$…
Fully consistent axially-symmetric-deformed Quasi-particle Random Phase Approximation (QRPA) calculations have been performed, in which the same Gogny D1S effective force has been used for both the Hartree-Fock-Bogolyubov mean field and the QRPA approaches. Giant resonances calculated in deformed $^{26-28}$Si and $^{22-24}$Mg nuclei as well as in the spherical $^{30}$Si and $^{28}$Mg isotopes are presented. Theoretical results for isovector-dipole and isoscalar monopole, quadrupole, and octupole responses are presented and the impact of the intrinsic nuclear deformation is discussed.
The influence of background states with increasing level of complexity on the strength distribution of the isoscalar and isovector giant quadrupole resonance in $^{40}$Ca is studied. It is found that the background characteristics, typical for chaotic systems, strongly affects the fluctuation properties of the strength distribution. In particular, the small components of the wave function obey a scaling law analogous to self-organized systems at the critical state. This appears to be consistent with the Porter-Thomas distribution of the transition strength.
We have studied the isoscalar giant quadruple resonance (ISGQR) and the isovector giant dipole resonance (IVGDR) in $^{208}$Pb based on an improved isospin-dependent Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck transport approach using an improved isospin- and momentum-dependent interaction. With the isoscalar nucleon effective mass and the nucleon-nucleon cross section which reproduces respectively the excitation energy and the width of the ISGQR strength function, the slope parameter of the symmetry energy and the neutron-proton effective mass splitting are constrained respectively within $36<L<62$ MeV and $…
The effect of temperature on the evolution of the isovector dipole and isoscalar quadrupole excitations in $^{68}$Ni and $^{120}$Sn nuclei is studied within the fully self-consistent finite temperature quasiparticle random phase approximation framework, based on the Skyrme-type SLy5 energy density functional. The new low-energy excitations emerge due to the transitions from thermally occupied states to the discretized continuum at finite temperatures, whereas the isovector giant dipole resonance is not strongly impacted by the increase of temperature. The radiative dipole strength at low-energ…
The electromagnetic excitation of the two-phonon isovector giant dipole resonance in relativistic projectiles incident on heavy targets can be proceed via several intermediate $1^-$ one-phonon giant resonance states. In two step electric dipole transitions the population of $0^+$, $1^+$, and $2^+ $ two-phonon states are possible. We calculate the amplitude distribution of $1^-$ excitations with an RPA formalism, and use it to calculate the electromagnetic excitation of two-phonon states in second order perturbation theory and coupled-channels. We show that a conspiracy between angular momentum…
The effective-surface approximation is extended taking into account derivatives of the symmetry-energy density per particle with respect to the mean particle density. The isoscalar and isovector particle densities in this extended effective-surface approximation are derived. The improved expressions of the surface symmetry energy, in particular, its surface tension coefficients in the sharp-edged proton-neutron asymmetric nuclei take into account important gradient terms of the energy density functional. For most Skyrme forces the surface symmetry-energy constants and the corresponding neutron…
The giant dipole resonance (GDR) in deformed nuclei is analyzed using the self-consistent separable random-phase-approximation (SRPA) with Skyrme forces SkT6, SkM$^*$, SLy6 and SkI3. The deformed nuclei $^{150}$Nd and $^{238}$U are used as representative rare-earth and actinide samples. Dependencies of the dipole strength distributions on some basic characteristics of the Skyrme functional and nuclear matter properties (isoscalar and isovector effective masses, time-odd contributions) are discussed. Particular attention is paid to the fragmentation structure of the GDR strength which are shown…
The collective motion of a finite nuclear system is investigated by numerical simulation and by linear response theory. Using a pseudo-particle simulation technique we analyze the giant resonances with a multipole decomposition scheme. We examine the energy and the damping of different giant collective modes and obtain the dependence of these quantities on the proton-neutron ratio. ...(abbreviated) Alternatively the giant collective modes in asymmetric nuclear matter are investigated within linear response theory including the collisional correlations via a dynamic relaxation time approximatio…
We search for nonlinear effects in nuclear giant resonances (GRs), in particular the isovector dipole and the isoscalar quadrupole modes. To that end, we employ a spectral analysis of time-dependent Hartree-Fock (TDHF) dynamics using Skyrme forces. Based on TDHF calculations over a wide range of excitation amplitudes, we explore the collectivity and degree of harmonic motion in these modes. Both GR modes turn out to be highly harmonic in heavy nuclei from A=100 on. There is no trace of a transition to irregular motion and multiple resonances are predicted. Slight anharmonicities are seen for l…
Isoscalar and isovector monopole oscillations that correspond to giant resonances in spherical nuclei are described in the framework of time-dependent relativistic mean-field (RMF) theory. Excitation energies and the structure of eigenmodes are determined from a Fourier analysis of dynamical monopole moments and densities. The generator coordinate method, with generating functions that are solutions of constrained RMF calculations, is also used to calculate excitation energies and transition densities of giant monopole states. Calculations are performed with effective interactions which differ…
The IVGDR in 208Pb has been measured with high energy resolution with the (p,p') reaction under extreme forward angles and shows considerable fine structure. Characteristic scales are extracted from the spectra with a wavelet analysis based on continuous wavelet transforms. Comparison with corresponding analyses of B(E1) strength distributions from microscopic model calculations in the framework of the QPM and relativistic RPA allow to identify giant resonance decay mechanisms responsible for the fine structure. The level density of 1- states can be related to local fluctuations of the cross s…
We calculate the isovector response function of hot nuclear matter using various effective Skyrme interactions. For Skyrme forces with a small effective mass the strength distribution is found to be nearly independent of temperature, and shows little collective effects. In contrast effective forces with an effective mass close to unity produce sizeable collective effects at zero temperature which disappear at temperatures of a few MeV. We discuss the relevance of these results for the saturation of the multiplicity of photons emitted by the giant dipole resonance in hot nuclei beyond $T$=3 MeV…
We review Migdal's Theory of Finite Fermi Systems and its application to the structure of nuclei. The theory is an extension of Landau's Theory of Interacting Fermi Systems. In the first part the basic formulas are derived within the many body Green functions approach. The theory is applied to isovector electric giant resonances in medium and heavy mass nuclei. The parameterizations of the enormalized effective ph-interaction and the effective operators are discussed. It is shown that the number of free parameters are restricted due to conservation laws. We also present an extension of Migdal'…
The electric dipole response of $^{140}$Ce is investigated using the fully consistent relativistic quasiparticle random phase approximation. By analyzing the isospin structure of the E1 response, it is shown that the low-energy (pygmy) strength separates into two segments with different isospin character. The more pronounced pygmy structure at lower energy is composed of predominantly isoscalar states with surface-peaked transition densities. At somewhat higher energy the calculated E1 strength is primarily of isovector character, as expected for the low-energy tail of the giant dipole resonan…
The isovector giant dipole resonance (IVGDR) in even-even Nd isotopes from A=124 to A=160 is studied in the framework of time-dependent Hartree-Fock (TDHF) with Skyrme forces SkI3, SVbas, SLy5 and SLy6. The dipole strength is calculated and compared with the experimental data on photon absorption cross section $σ_γ$. An overall agreement between them is obtained. The dipole strengths in $ ^{124-140}\text{Nd}$ and $^{152-160}\text{Nd} $ are predicted. In addition, the correlation between the quadrupole deformation parameter $β_{2}$ and the splitting $ΔE/ \bar{E}_{m}$ of the giant dipole resonan…
Microscopic structure of the low-lying isovector dipole excitation mode in neutron-rich $^{26,28,30}$Ne is investigated by performing deformed quasiparticle-random-phase-approximation (QRPA) calculations. The particle-hole residual interaction is derived from a Skyrme force through a Landau-Migdal approximation. We have obtained the low-lying resonance in $^{26}$Ne at around 8.5 MeV. It is found that the isovector dipole strength at $E_{x}<10$ MeV exhausts about 6.0% of the classical Thomas-Reiche-Kuhn dipole sum rule. This excitation mode is composed of several QRPA eigenmodes, one is generat…
